Lol do you guys think that these guys were considered "cool" "hotties" and etc in school? Lol I read this article that tom howell said how "people considered him a nerd and uncool" and when he got movie fame everybody acted like they were friends and everybody wanted him. My point is they were nobody's before They went on the big screen
Ralph- I was too young and frail to be Dallas *is older than all of the actors but one* (I know he meant he looked young and frail but whatever shhhhh)
I wish this movie was longer just so I could see more of their handsome faces. haha On a serious note, I just want more of their story and friendship and all. :)
Fake Name Different era, I was 13/14 at the time it came out and movie stars were real movie stars because you only saw them at the cinema or occasionally on TV. This was pre celebrity, social media etc.so the stars had a real mystique. Watching a movie in them days was more difficult, even with VCRs coming in so they were a big deal. The actors in this movie have very classic American looks with great bone structure, a throwback to James Dean and Sal Mineo. That said there are more diverse looking people from other races on screen now which is good. Things always look rosy through the eyes of nostalgia.
Because if guys acted like they used to act then they would truly be outsiders to society in this PC culture we have nowadays...it's a pussification of society..
***** I agree that he was famous but I wouldn't put him in the same category of Justin Bieber, he was known as a bad boy not a wanna be, he didn't only have teen fans. Looking at the casting I feel that they made the right choice, can't imagine Scott Baio
A 40s movie isn't equivalent to a movie from 1986, Anne. 40s movies were in black and white, had no cursing or nudity. I was alive in 86. I saw The Fly, Aliens, and Predator 1 in 86 and 87. If that was equivalent to a 40s movie, I'm richer than Bill Gates. 80s movies are more similar to movies from TODAY than they were to 40s flicks. Not trying to ruffle your feathers or anything, but it's true. And times do chance. I get your main point.
In school every time Dally laughed while we were watching it the whole class laughed, his laugh is just so great. Also the part where Ponyboy is saying the poem Nothing Gold Can Stay is my background.
Matt Dillon though 😏 haha I can't help but express my thoughts on how hot he is every time Dally appears onscreen during the entire movie lol that's why my boyfriend don't like watching The Outsiders with me 😂
In my 50s now and i still remember ponyboy and johnny on the run, the peroxide and the gone with the wind and ofc bawlin my eyes out when johnny died…yes i am old.
I was 13 in 1987 too, but I discovered the movie & book when I was 9 in 1983. I had two older siblings (age 11 and 13) in 1983; they were reading it in middle school; they brought it home and we all read it. By 1984, my sister had posters of all the boys in her/my bedroom.
When I watched this movie I immediately admired the PERFECT casting 🤩. Each character looked exactly how I imagined them in my head while reading the book. Dally's elfish face and cold but charming demeanor, Johnny's scared nervous eyes, Sodas "movie star" good looks, and Ponyboys thoughtfulness and longing we're casted and played beautifully ❤️ this will forever be my favorite book just because it offered a prospective I'd never seen before.😊
ლyυĸι тнe ĸawaιι ĸιттyლ ・ω ・ They were very good friends for a while! Emilio, Tom, and Rob were all super close for a long time. Not sure if any of them are anymore.
Did Ralph Macchio have a glandular condition? He was 21 when he played Johnny Cade in the Outsiders. He was 23 when he played Danny Russo in the first Karate Kid. Weird, huh?
Wow, Tom Cruise is so underrated in this one... Him as Steve Randle, Ralph Macchio as Johnny and Matt Dillon as Dallas are my favorites in this whole movie!!
I was so disappointed and sad when Johnny died but what made me happy was when i saw this video and Ralph said he wanted to play Johnny. He knew his character was gonna die and that was what reassured me that it was ok. Idk why tho its weird.
This movie is so unfair. The level of talent and attractiveness is outrageous! Never have i ever had a crush on every single main character in a movie.
I’m not joking this movie had like all the famous 80s actors into one movie that’s what’s so amazing about this!!! Ugh I just love it to death I can’t even!
I loved the 1st Karate Kid, and Ralph Machio, but I have to say this was his best role ever. Some of the names mentioned of those who tried out, like Scott Baio, I can't see a part for him. The cast was indeed perfectly picked. It couldn't have been any better, or any other way.
The Outsiders with any other cast would simply not be The Outsiders. Excellent book and they did an excellent job making it into a movie without destroying it. Still to this day one of my favourite books and one of my favourite movies. "Let's do it for Johnny!" Oh yeah, yes i had a huge crush on C. Thomas Howell, still do.
Even though it’s been years, The Outsiders still has the same power it did when it first came out. The power to grab people’s attention and to make people fall in love with the story. Even though it was filmed years ago, it is one of my favorite movies and my favorite book. I promise myself that one day when I have kids of my own and when they are ready, they to will feel the power The Outsiders has. Stay Gold everyone!
Same!! I told my dad that I wanted to be a greaser and he said "For Halloween?" and I was like no.... everyday...... it just makes me mad that I can't meet Johnny. Freaking fictional characters!
Just to clarify everyone again , ignorance isn't always bliss this video is from like 04 I am assuming, C. Thomas Howell by then was severely sick he lost about I would say 3 FT of intestine in 2003 due to a serious bout with appendicitis , it really affected him , so be mindful when making aging or looking comments, like TheZombiehunter24 did . If the poor guy dyed his hair he probably look like what he did then he just opts to go gray.
I really enjoy this type of video. Behind the scenes. Discussing their characters. I've never really seen an audition tape like this before. I enjoyed all of it.

You don't know his name? You ever watch Entourage? He's Johnny Drama's older brother.
