I appreciate that you didn't just use this video to rip apart crossfitters or crossfit as a whole. You recognize that their training doesn't optimize the clean and you looked at the event for what it is. You also had some good things to say about them rather than purely criticisms.
his comment about cfit "getting their act together" halfway through was a bit of an odd comment though. Maybe he hasnt seen the handstand-walk-pushup segment.

@@pilot.wav_theory If I were to add anything back thats Oly-esque, it would be hang power clean. The reason I don't like Oly is because you can't rep out the lifts. You gotta drop the weight and set up again and I don't like that. At least with hang power clean you can pretty much get a rhythm and bang out reps. Also to the person who is scared of the lifts, you shouldn't be, its easy to bail out of both lifts.
I’m a weightlifter first and a CrossFitter 2nd so this was fun to watch. Thank you for at minute 7 actually acknowledging that these guys are fried, this is event number 8 in the space of three days and I have seen at least a dozen weightlifter you tubers critiqueing the form of these cleans to the nth degree and they never mention the fact these guys are fucked before they even touch the bar. Rant-over, this was refreshing please do more, there’s plenty of content there, watch out for the ladies snatch event from this year though, poor Brooke Wells it’s too hard to watch.

Multiply by 2.2 to convert from kg to pounds. So 140 kg times 2 is 280, and then you take that number and move the decimal once over to the left (280 becomes 28) and add it to the first number: 280 + 28 equals 308 pounds. You can do that in your head in seconds.

I really appreciate you acknowledging that, since their training encompasses a wider range of skills, crossfit athletes are not expected to be compared with high-level weightlifting athletes. Mat Fraser is an ex weightlifter. He came into CrossFit with over a 300lb snatch and a 330ish overhead squat. He was years ahead of the athletes in 2014 when he started
Scott Panchik has no ACL's. He had both his knee destroyed in college football. It's amazing how someone with such a disability is able to contend at a elite level for 10 years at the games.

@@darksky7507 Here in the Netherlands they only show us the games/sports where a Dutch Olympian is competing for free. There's only 1 Dutch weightlifter, so we won't be seeing any weightlifting until Enzo Kuworge (109kg+) is competing, which is on the final day.

And a lot of channels seems to choose to move everything over to their streaming app. Here, Eurosport only use two of their main channels, leaving the other 12 plus channels empty. All events are only available on their app. Which you pay for of course. And they bought the license in my country. No one else can broadcast the events on TV but them.

Like I'm not even a big fan of Olympics, I just wanted to watch skateboarding and that's it, but its really new for me that there's tjsi much of a payall around the world.
Loved it! Interesting to see what criticism you have while acknowledging that even though their technique may not be perfect, the entire event is fun to watch. For once a person that understands or respects that crossfits shortcomings are inherent in the sport by chosing not to specialise. However, I do see it a bit differently: a crossfitter needs solid weightlifting technique more than anything to win the games. Tia and Matt proved it.
5:52, I considered that the "catch-up" stance since they have have their bodies catch-up to the right position. Creates too large of a moment arm and wastes so much energy trying to catch-up to the right position for the 2nd pull.
The concept of crossfit is great when correctly applied. The problem comes with the wrong "optimization" crossfitters do to some exercises. The CLEAREST example imo is the classic crossfitter's "pull-up", that's just doing the exercise for the sake of the movement, not for its benefits to the body.
Crossfitter's pull-ups as you describe them are not intended for the same purpose as your traditional strict pull-up. Crossfitters still practice strict pull-ups to build strength and endurance, but they're rarely programmed in competition as they are difficult to judge fairly. It is important that you remember that CrossFit is a sport as well as a methodology. Trust me when I tell you that kipping, and even butterfly pull-ups require strength, timing and endurance, and all three forms have different purposes.

Im far from an expert but his lifts look amazing. I would loooove to see a comparison between him and the rest of the field. Looks like from a different planet.
i powerlift in a CF gym. there are some strong men & women there. the aggression you mention with pulling is definitely under-emphasized. theres much to learn from them though; they are supremely athletic and do not quit. plus they do lots of power movements. my favorite thing? always doggos there.
Just finished watching Sika Strength talk about doping, thought this was an alleged non-doping type clean event, lol, not clean as in lifting ... I am an idiot.
Fraser's around 195 (according to him) pounds which is 88.5 kilos, so put him in the 89kg weight class at the 2019 world championships and he's in the same group as Toshiki Yamamoto. A 380 pound clean is 172.4 kilos, with no jerk. Toshiki put up 208kg to win the gold in the C&J in 2019, and you know he can clean more.

"Crossfitters don't usually look like weightlifters when they lift" is so accurate. Alternatively, there is something distinctly unique in the way a weightlifter lifts. I think it's that a miss with a weightlifter is almost always technique related, rather than strength related (as in a technical mistake, not lack of technique). Whereas for a crossfitter, it's both lack of technique and strength. It's always a grind - even their makes.
Fraser was a weightlifter. There's a lot of hate for CF, and rightfully so in a lot of the cases, but the sport has grown tremendously over the past few years, and with that, the top athletes have become considerably better at everything, including weightlifting.
It heresy to say -- but damn its crazy how much explosiveness comes from genetics. These guys would excel, or at least be well above average, at any explosive sport.

People crap on crossfit a lot, but it will increase overall strength, aerobic and anaerobic capacities, flexibility, athleticism, etc. Its not a bad way to go. Pair it with something else, such as martial arts, or throw in a couple bodybuilding or powerlifting days or weightlifting sessions, and it's good

Best quad to knee insertion I have ever seen was Liao Hui in the 2010 Worlds at 69K, he cleaned 198 Kilos like it was just the bar.
