I would like to add that if your silhouette does not stand out and is kinda plain then make the art style stand out as a nice substitute that way when anyone sees a similar silhouette they will first think of you
@@squiiji3D the best part about that tactic is if you did not even know or think about silhouettes being distinct in the first place being a part of what makes a great or memorable design then you still could stand out. I view the whole thing as a game where you are given a undisclosed limited number of skill points that you must spend, as if you do too much you will overload the senses of the viewers brain and they will ask "Are you trying to be the next Max0r?" but if you do too little you will just be underwhelming to the viewers Overwhelming the sense can work just look at Max0r 1.26mil subs, but one would have to be fully committed to doing that. And he spends about 3 months editing a video, overly editing i might add as he deliberately overwhelms the sense and granted he is not a VTuber. Substituting for a lack of something in any area is really a great advice in general, not just for content creation, art, or VTubing but in general. As for me i personally think a plain design in general is ok, especially in a world of oversaturation as then the more plain something looks the more it actually stands out in the crowd while not really trying. Think of Larry from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet games that are filled with vibrant everything really and he is just a overworked business man trying to make ends meet, and because there is a clash there he is one of the most memorable characters in those games and the most relatable which also plays into the memorability of Larry
I kinda disagree here tbh. Most silhouettes are not unique, there is just so much type of clothing and designs that can be applied to a model. And for the people that go completely wild with special elements in their model, they often feel incredibly busy to look at and have too many unnecessary details to make an easy memorable first impression. An issue that also many Vtuber logos have. A recognizable brand (and thats what this basically is about) is easy to look at, easy to understand and memorable in terms of color choice and design. And there are many things that can be part of that. May it be your Vtuber model, but also some recognizable logo/symbol, mascots, your background, theme and of course character as a person.
I wanted to do V-Tubing over half a decade ago before the term “V-Tuber” was even coined. Once Hololive became a thing I kind of lost all motivation, because it seemed like all anyone wanted was anime girls. But after watching this I’ve became motivated to bring my specific style into the space since it seems like it’s appreciated now more than ever (:
Go for it!! I tried to start learning L2D in 2017 because I wanted to give it a try, but also lost motivation for it, but here I am now and it's never too late to try!
Same thing happened to me. I saw all the anonymous art yourubers (which I would argue are still "vtubers" but whatever, people call then other things like "png tubers" now) and I thought staying anonymous would be the perfect way for me to start making content without having to look nice or put effort into a camera. Combine this with the boom of VR and I was inspired to start streaming virtually in games such as VR chat. I got so demotivated once hololive became the norm. Not that it is bad at all! It just create a new norm for virtual creators ;u;
I am so very honored that you mentioned me in your video, and built upon my concept theory! I totally agree with your additions to my theory. It's an interesting concept, though it feels like there always has to be a trade off, either it's a small change to the model, or the model is simple enough that a change is easy, or you are your own artist with enough time for it. Was actually thinking about how this would work well for a game like SS13 (multiplayer shift based game job sim/rp till something blows up the station and you die), the outfits for different jobs are similar enough (basically a colored jumpsuit) that you could model an outfit for like 10 of the 35 or so jobs with only doing the work of a about 3 outfits, and it would be an easy game to come back to.
Funny how I've never considered the whole teaching about some topics as a vtuber since I actually teach and handle some interesting topics... but you mentioned it and now the wheels are turning! Thanks for the inspo 💜
Definitely got the wheels in my mind turning. Design and concept is so important coming from someone like myself who works in the animation industry as a layout artist. Thanks for the video and found it very interesting 😊

I'm not so much aiming to become a Vtuber, but I am striving more into becoming a Vtuber model artist and rigger. I'm currently helping my friends with their concepts and models. I'm sort of their manager, or at least that's what they call me .w. These videos have been super helpful and the generator is going to be great practice for me! This way I can test my creativity with silhouette and how to make them recognizable Great video!!
Im personally using vtubing not for the case of vtubing, but a rather way both have some kind of brand and have easier connection to people watching me. A model makes possible to share emotions and gestures with visuals and not just voice. Let the model be me, not me be the model basically.
Thanks for all of your insight on motifs and such. I learned some things that I definitely overlooked. Keep it up with videos like this! Looking forward to a character design video in the future 👍
This video honestly gave me that final push i needed to do gardening streams, gardening is a huge passion of mine but was always so scared showing it on streams cause breaking immersion and stuff and when you talked about showing what makes you different from the oversaturated vtuber world, thought to myself ill give it shot 😊
This is so inspiring and fresh... everyone/most people just got used to and think that v-tubers have to mainly do gaming/art streams and present their unique hobbies or skills as sort of a bonus. That's what I've always thought as a consumer, but now that you've brough this perspective and introduced some of the more unique content creators in the sphere, it makes me want to actually seek some out who would pique my interest; to actually subscribe instead of watch videos as they're recommended in my algorithm! It made me think about how my type of demographic (only time to view short form content or highlights) doesn't consume much of the gaming portions of v-tubers since there's not much time to get invested... and now I realize that I've always gravitated to the "other" content of those streamers where I like their personality, but only seek out the content that's concise. Thank you for sharing your perspective and being such an inspiring teacher (currently watching through your videos 😅 backwards after discovering you last night). Even though I'm not able to utilize the things you discuss for myself (though if I was younger I would definitely be an education vtuber!), I'm excited to see what your content inspires in others and love how you teach these concepts, making it so digestible for laymen such as myself!
This was a super validating video. I finally bit the bullet and started blending my writing (I'm an author) with my vtuber stuff, even though I wasn't sure if this was a "valid" path to go. Your video has reinforced my drive to do this!
i feel like the species ive used for my vtuber is relatively under utilized in the vtuber space (shes a selkie!) but when it comes to content, my main interests are art and music :( but i really do like progressive and underground classic rock specifically and maybe giving a history lesson on the bands of that scene would be interesting? ive got too many ideas and idk what to do with them lol
There is a thing I dont really like about videos like this, its completely on me, but I think its important to mention. This video is related to the will of becoming a vtuber, with a goal to become a vtuber. It shows ideas on how you can become standing out, interesting and etc, but it not necessarily fits what you want? For example, I wanted to have a gaming channel, streaming gaming for fun, not to be solely a successful youtuber. Which means, the advice of combining what skills I present, is not related, because what I want to present is already an oversaturated niche. I might be better if I try to combine language-learning into my content and vtubing, but its not exactly what I want to do as a content creator, so now Im stuck with that. And a aesthetic, theme of the vtuber doesnt actually fit too much, all I want is just to use an already existing type of character I love and associate a lot with my persona online, and just use it to have more personal connection with an auditory, which contradicts the idea of creating a brand new identity, which might be an original one, but its not exactly part of me at least yet. Basically what im trying to say, this video is not about moving forward you as a creator with an existing identity, but more like about how to start off as a new identity which will have a better market using your own skills. Its great, but me personally, im here not for the sake of vtubing or youtube, im here cuz I want to share my experiences I love. Not really against the video, its a very great edited video for 500 subs(Me with my basically only 20 real subs cant judge you at all, all my videos are shit after all xd), I just think that the topic can be a bit misleading in specific cases like mine. Probably im a rare case, but if I exist, then there could be plenty more.. You have a great art style btw, keep going
Ah thank you, I'm glad you still enjoyed my editing and model! I appreciate your critique, and I do agree that this isn't the path for everyone, especially not for individuals who have already established who/what they want to be. Absolutely do what you love, and if that's gaming, go for it! I just wanted to give a push to new/starting out creators to experiment with branching out (:
I wish I had this info before I had my L2D made.. I might've gone a different route. But I'm still very happy with how it turned out. Anyway, this should help me moving forward. Thank you! Love the inkcap design, btw.
When VTubers where still not a hot pick, I wanted to become one so bad (I'm talking about the time where Niji EN still didn't exist) But now it seems almost impossible to differentiate from the rest and grow. Even more if you're not on a company like Nijisanji/Hololive. Aside from ChroNoiR (pretty famous), I only follow another VTuber called Chromo, he's a small English VTuber (3K) I discovered when searching for some stream to get Twitch Drops LOL. I choose him bc his design was the most beautiful design I've ever seen. Then I really liked his nice personality and kept coming even tho there weren't drops, now I don't miss any of his streams.
finally a video that actually explains how to find a niche... for the first time i actually have some ideas. it definetly wont be something that hasnt been done before but its atleast a lot more unique.
@@squiiji3D I really, really love your 3D model! I really spend more time in the 2D art community so I don't get to see a lot of 3D art and I think it's really cool!!! Your videos are also very high quality with good editing, and I don't actually watch vtubers specifically, I just find them from watching commentary/video essay type videos xD So, like you said in your videos, its cool that you do both :D
thank you for the video! i've been feeling inspired to become a vtuber for a little while but didn't think i'd be any good at streaming since i'm not experienced with gaming or public speaking, but this has prompted me to look into other forms of content creation. growing up i've always loved watching science videos and am still very passionate about the subject to this day, so maybe that's the path i'll take when/if i eventually start my journey :))
As someone who wants to try out vtubing and has a design and (model in the works) seeing this is now making me question everything into a sudden new idea, because this game me a whole new perspective on stuff lol!
hmm enoying your vids while getting ready today and honestly this is really intrigueing, also I'd say for anyone who is wanting to be a vtuber and their specialty is art which is a bit more common, try to niche down into a side of art vtubers don't usually go into, usually its a lot of drawing streams, digital art, coding, if you're anything like me with a very nich art degree you may be able to teach more physical sides of the craft, or art history or something, don't feel limited to just showing people your drawings
I absolutely agree! I may actually be doing something similar in the future, I'm a printmaker, and to my knowledge, I've only ever seen one other printmaker live on twitch!
@@squiiji3D ooo that would be so cool! Printmaking is so fun to watch, I do screen printing myself bc I like patterns on my clothes lol. Hope it goes super well!
Good video, helps me organize some of my ideas. I wonder how much the market is saturated voice acting/impressions, seems like a bit for at least impressions but I could be wrong.
I want to do some gaming, and digital art. But i think it would be fun to do biology, zoology, and other animal facts with VTubering. Maybe do highly edited videos of going out in the field and looking for animals.
Well you've certainly put what's on my mind regarding vtuber concepts into a much nicer way than i ever could. FAR TOO MANY vtubers think that being a vtuber is just having a nicely drawn/rigged model, and after that they're set, which IMO is why it's a miracle if any of them make it into the 10k range. People really underestimate creative effort, because it could boost even the "tired" content, like not just what game you're playing but if you can think of HOW to play it to make things interesting, and not just another run-of-the-mill let's play. Also I would be careful with Educational content, the tax filing waifu game mostly got interesting, BECAUSE while it had shown you how to do it, there was enough distraction that it didn't feel like a chore, since even in the part of the trailer you showed it said "GO ON DATES", so it wasn't the sole focus. Usually there is a large disconnect between character concept and content that people don't plan around or do it very little. For example since you mention Onigiri, let me criticize her for a moment, her being an oni adds nothing to the overall content, because she acts like an ordinary human, the only reason her avatar is the way she is so she can make the pun of ONI-giri, it gets a chuckle out of people once, but beyond that it adds nothing. It's just like watching any IRL cooking show, it only adds one extra layer of TECHNICAL effort to set up the green-screen, but beyond that nothing on the CREATIVE side. To put it into an example, if say she studied on how Oni are characterized as besides "they have horns" it would improve setting her apart from the aforementioned IRL cooking shows even more, or she could make fictional dishes (even if only in name, but she still makes irl dishes) and say she works with "dangerous" ingredients, and she could mess up the cooking with it's effects showing on her avatar, it could put some creative use on her avatar besides it being a thing she needs to call herself a vtuber. You also showed Mysta and called him "(not so) intelligent detective" but he NEVER was acting like a detective as far as i know, he merely acted like a total idiot, but never within the context of detective work, and plenty of details he told about his life contradicted his debut lore, making it a waste of time. Honestly this is why i got started, cuz i was left disappointed time after time that i get hooked with an interesting lore, only to be disappointed that they do ABSOLUTELY nothing with it, and I'm the idiot for wanting vtubers to ACTUALLY play a character.
Thank you so much for this, it's given me an idea for a channel to make and see how it goes :) I just need to get the model made now xD maybe I'll just PNG/Gif it till then
Hi, Love your content and thanks for the advice right now I'm running a farm so I guess you could call me a farm V-tuber Right now I don't have my model yet and I'm still trying to figure out how I'll talk about it while I still want to do gaming and art! Overall great advice! THANK YOU
SO UNDERRATED?? I literally thought this had like at LEAST 300k views or something.. but HUH??? I just wanna claim my spot as the 19th comment of this vid, because it’s gotta blow up eventually.
the discussion on vtubers in the niche of teaching makes me want to be an entomologist and/or palaeontologist so much more now just so i can make longform videos as a vtuber about bugs n' dinos
This is the video I needed thank you so much! I always wanted to be an animator and vtuber but never really had the time due to college/life or well never took the chance to actually dive into what I truly wanted to start with. However, what I can do easily: songwriting/stories/animating/commentary vs what I want to do: true crime/forensic science doesn't seem like it would work together? It sounds silly.
Have been doing some searching in Vtuber concepts so I can try and create my own. Hearing this helps a lot. While it still kinda in the traditional sense, I want to try doing anime reactions as a core for my context as, while I am an artist, it’s not super good and I’m pretty shy when it comes to singing. Thinking about it more, it could also be fun to read books and fanfics that I like as well. Thank you a lot for these ideas as both for Vtuber concepts and character design in general!
I think those are good routes for content! I haven't seen that many anime/manga critics or reviews from Vtubers, and read-a-longs and that sort of stuff could be really fun! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I wish you luck!
@@squiiji3D I’m glad you think so! Thanks for the support as well! I’m in college right now amd working, so it will take me a while to try out but I’ll do my best. I’m still new to this whole Vtuber thing as I just started watching them around 2 months ago. But they are all so cool and look like a lot of fun (I do know there are downsides to it but it still looks fun to do). I hope to do my best and I can’t wait to see all your videos too! You gained a subscriber!
i don't really think i can describe myself as a content creator with that formula - like, i'm kind of just playing myself, and while i think my personality/style are distinctive, they're not easily defined by single words.
@@vxicepickxv personally my design is pretty cartoonish but it's not based on anime tropes really. i haven't seen anyone successfully venture out of a fairly typical "anime" style yet
i would love to an art history/art teach or an engineering, gardening vtuber like ones that teach you stuff!! this would be sooo cool because personally i would love a v tuber that teaches/talks about an interest of mine! this is why squiiji is one of my favs informative and super entertaining would 1000000000% more love more v tubers like this >
oh nooo, my color palette is... a bit full lol good advice, i'm absolutely saving this for reference down the line. i hope my niche is worth this break i've been on lol
wow this video was very helpful thank you! I'm also suprised how fast you have grown after just starting out! I'm curious how you do this? either way keep up the great content
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it! Honestly I'm not quite sure how I've done it, I think it might be a combination of consistently having a video each week and having topics people are looking for, I'm mostly making videos for fun so I haven't been thinking about it too hard haha

This was a super validating video. I finally bit the bullet and started blending my writing (I'm an author) with my vtuber stuff, even though I wasn't sure if this was a "valid" path to go. Your video has reinforced my drive to do this!
Watching your videos has given me so many ideas to help develop my character ♥You're awesome for doing these.
i feel like the species ive used for my vtuber is relatively under utilized in the vtuber space (shes a selkie!) but when it comes to content, my main interests are art and music :( but i really do like progressive and underground classic rock specifically and maybe giving a history lesson on the bands of that scene would be interesting? ive got too many ideas and idk what to do with them lol
Oo music history for sure could be a fun route! And you don't need to 100% tie yourself down to one thing, a variety can be good!
@@squiiji3D Ah right, its noon in the USA, you can actually reply to me xD
Thank you for your feedback too, really appreciate. Wish ya luck
I wish I had this info before I had my L2D made.. I might've gone a different route. But I'm still very happy with how it turned out. Anyway, this should help me moving forward. Thank you!
Love the inkcap design, btw.
Thank you! And hey, there's always an opportunity to add to a design!
“What skills do you bring to Vtubing?”
Me: uh… well, I like potatoes ¯\_( •̅ ɞ •̅)_/¯
This is actually a very fresh perspective. Thanks!
it's crazy how the vtubing nieche just kept growing and growing since it's boom in 2020
finally a video that actually explains how to find a niche... for the first time i actually have some ideas. it definetly wont be something that hasnt been done before but its atleast a lot more unique.
I'm your 700th subscriber!!!!!
Ah thank you!
I’ve been struggling with a Vtuber concept and this really helped me narrow it down. Thanks a lot.
this video has been super helpful! I feel a lot more confident in trying my hand
thank you for the video! i've been feeling inspired to become a vtuber for a little while but didn't think i'd be any good at streaming since i'm not experienced with gaming or public speaking, but this has prompted me to look into other forms of content creation. growing up i've always loved watching science videos and am still very passionate about the subject to this day, so maybe that's the path i'll take when/if i eventually start my journey :))
Great video! I can't wait to see more from you!
Thank you!!
@@squiiji3D 😊
i have a bfa and this was still SO INCREDIBLY HELPFUL. thank you for putting this together so clearly!
As someone who wants to try out vtubing and has a design and (model in the works) seeing this is now making me question everything into a sudden new idea, because this game me a whole new perspective on stuff lol!
Pretty informative video.Your model shape is pretty unique. Haven't seen mushroom shaped vtuber model before.
hmm enoying your vids while getting ready today and honestly this is really intrigueing, also I'd say for anyone who is wanting to be a vtuber and their specialty is art which is a bit more common, try to niche down into a side of art vtubers don't usually go into, usually its a lot of drawing streams, digital art, coding, if you're anything like me with a very nich art degree you may be able to teach more physical sides of the craft, or art history or something, don't feel limited to just showing people your drawings
Hope it goes super well!
oh thank you so much, this video helped me strengthen and sort my ideas
Mental health. That is something I want bring to the forefront
Good video, helps me organize some of my ideas. I wonder how much the market is saturated voice acting/impressions, seems like a bit for at least impressions but I could be wrong.
This is so informative! I'm considering becoming a VTuber so I've been looking up a lot of stuff.
Well made video!
Thank you!
Im planning on debuting soon, and youre vids have helped alot!
11 seconds in and theres a talking shroom on my screen neat
I don't even want to be vtuber. I came here over curiosity but damn you have such a charisma!
Very well made video!!! Very Informative!!!
I love your model, you've got a very unique design :3
Also super informative video as well \uwu/
Thank you! 💙 I'm glad you like my model and the video (:
so happy you popped up in my recommended. you are so cool.
Thank you!!
I want to do some gaming, and digital art. But i think it would be fun to do biology, zoology, and other animal facts with VTubering. Maybe do highly edited videos of going out in the field and looking for animals.
Who is the old black-white cartoon style vtuber in the thumbnail? Great video bytheway!
PumpkinPotion!
omgee teeny magical girl idol. This video is so REAL AND I SUGGEST THIS VID TO NEW TUBERS!!
Thank you so much for this, it's given me an idea for a channel to make and see how it goes :) I just need to get the model made now xD maybe I'll just PNG/Gif it till then
Png/Gif is a great way to go starting out! Good luck!
Hi, Love your content and thanks for the advice right now I'm running a farm so I guess you could call me a farm V-tuber Right now I don't have my model yet and I'm still trying to figure out how I'll talk about it while I still want to do gaming and art! Overall great advice! THANK YOU
i just came from yam's video! :D your video is just as insightful. thank you for the content!!
your model is also a cutiepie
A niche that I think could really be expanded is dnd or ttrpg vtuber. There has been some, but mostly just dipping their toes in to it at the moment.
Ok gonna get my cam back and will be doing more stuff in my stream thank you :) i think I'll build my next gunpla kit and Origami :)
SO UNDERRATED?? I literally thought this had like at LEAST 300k views or something.. but HUH??? I just wanna claim my spot as the 19th comment of this vid, because it’s gotta blow up eventually.
Ah thank you so much!
Great vid! Very informative and inspiring when talking about finding new niches for Vtubers to step into!
ooo thank you for this a lot of people go over oc design, but nothing like this
the discussion on vtubers in the niche of teaching makes me want to be an entomologist and/or palaeontologist so much more now just so i can make longform videos as a vtuber about bugs n' dinos
Just when I was thinking of creating some kind of vtuber adopt.
you're really awesome!! thank you!!!
Wow the algorithm really said "I see you strugglin bih here's a tip video" 🗿
This is the video I needed thank you so much! I always wanted to be an animator and vtuber but never really had the time due to college/life or well never took the chance to actually dive into what I truly wanted to start with.
However, what I can do easily: songwriting/stories/animating/commentary vs what I want to do: true crime/forensic science doesn't seem like it would work together? It sounds silly.
This is important to me, as a PNGtuber who is skilled at gaming but bad at most other things.
Your model looks great wtf
You're a pretty cool mushroom vtuber. 😁👌🍄👌
Goofy (i guess) + Cartoony + Pizza Bagels :/ + Object Head! + ER/Doctor (hopefully)
Thanks for the advices!
I'm a neko senpai who paints tabletop miniatures live on stream who might or might not be a clone created by aliens
Cool model!!
My Vtuber: Elf/Goblin hybrid Artificer/Inventor for a royal elven family
*If you stand out, you’re just a meat for audiences.*
i don't really think i can describe myself as a content creator with that formula - like, i'm kind of just playing myself, and while i think my personality/style are distinctive, they're not easily defined by single words.
I'm working on a very specific design. I haven't even seen anyone really try to venture outside of anime as an aesthetic.
@@vxicepickxv personally my design is pretty cartoonish but it's not based on anime tropes really. i haven't seen anyone successfully venture out of a fairly typical "anime" style yet
my concepts for myself are Demon/fallen angel, artist who plays video games, and I'm working in a style for my 1.5.
And here I am singing death core with a VTuber avatar 😂 I’m trying my best to stand out :3 it’s crazy how popular VTubers are now :0
Yo that's a super cool angle though! We need more genres in vtuber music!
@@squiiji3D this is true :3 also I absolutely love your model 🖤🖤 it’s so cute 🖤
i would love to an art history/art teach or an engineering, gardening vtuber like ones that teach you stuff!! this would be sooo cool because personally i would love a v tuber that teaches/talks about an interest of mine!
this is why squiiji is one of my favs informative and super entertaining would 1000000000% more love more v tubers like this >
oh nooo, my color palette is... a bit full lol
good advice, i'm absolutely saving this for reference down the line. i hope my niche is worth this break i've been on lol
wow this video was very helpful thank you!
@@squiiji3D Thank you for the candid reply ♥ I appreciate it!
