  • In this video we were very fortunate to have a private guided tour by Helen of the Groundlings Theatre in Portsea, England.
We have heard from paranormal friends of this location & was also featured in Help! My House Is Haunted season 3 in the episode “Theatre Of Slums”.
    Briefly History.
Groundlings Theatre is one of the UK’s most dynamic and impressive Georgian Theatre’s. Built in 1784, Groundlings is steeped in history and was formally known as The Old Benny, the first free school in the city. The downstairs was the classroom and the upstairs was used by the Beneficial Society for meetings, theatre and concerts. In 1939 the school was closed due to the Second World War, a Nazi sympathiser used the roof to direct bombers using a torch as they wanted to bomb the Portsmouth Dockyard. The school then became a youth training centre in 1962, before becoming the Groundlings Theatre in 2010.

Hey ya. I am glad you enjoyed your tour of the theatre. I am the stage manager there and I have noticed a load of paranormal activity. Originally I was a fence sitter however little things have changed my mind.
At 9:26 when Helen speaks about the Tech / Control room and the stairway above. There is an attic which runs the whole length of the theatre. There is a small walkway which is roughly 12 inches wide which will give you the access from the rear of the attic to the front of the building. Obviously it being an attic, it is being used for storage for scenery, props and other random stuff!
At 11:13 At the Dame's dressing room. I have had moments where I have felt cold in there for no reason. Even on a very hot day, I would have a moment where I would feel uneasy and cold but I would never seen any evidence of any paranormal activity but many others from the ghost hunts have told me that something has happened in there.
At 12:34 is where I came off the fence. In that small dressing room which leads to the main dressing room, there was a speaker attached to hooks. There would of been roughly 6 inches of travel so the speaker would have to be lifted some distance for it to become free. One morning when doing the unlock, I noticed the speaker on the floor and no damage to the hooks. Knowing that I was the last person to leave the building the night before did make me that there is paranormal activity. The night before when I finished locking up, I said goodnight ghosts and I heard a huge bang and I was out the door quicker than that. There has been a few occasions where I would find a speaker on the floor. Also again a few ghost hunts have felt uneasy in that part of the building.
At 15:38 In that part of wardrobe, an ouija board was being used. This was my first time when I was involved with the ghost hunt so I didn't know what to expect to be honest. I was told a few names by the rest of the staff and volunteers but I kept it quiet. I could tell you that my hairs did stick up when a couple of names did come out. I couldn't debunk that the team may have known the names by talking to others was because only the team knew eachother and everyone else within the ghost hunt were paying customers who have never been to the building before and even during the initial safety and welcoming briefly, nothing was said about any names or how many spirits were within the building.
This is only just a brief discription of my experiences but there has been many more things which I have noticed.

@@FANTASMAHOUSEPARANORMAL Best thint to do is send an email. As the stage manager then I only deal with the Tech side of things as and when needed. The theatre is open from Tuesdays to Saturdays - 10am onwards.

This place is amazing... so much history... and the 'birch pole' my grandma used to talk of one they had in her school which was just a one room school house... and was a main support in the center of the school, and i remember her telling me how the kids would be done the same way... I had forgotten about that memory.. strange how things are so much the same all over... winder if it was a 'tradition ' so to speak brought over in the day? Thank you for sharing this beautiful building! Have a great evening Anna and Martin!
