In this explore we visit The Former Royal Marine Barracks in Portsmouth.
The series of seven linked blocks facing the sea forms the second longest barracks frontage in the country.
The ensemble has been called "the best and most complete barracks of the post-Crimean War period".
Highly secured now this was filmed a few months back.
PLEASE DO NOT VISIT AS THERE IS NOW SECURITY.

JUST TO think myGreat Grand Father 1866 was there as a Sargent Royal Marine & retired 1867 after 21 yesterday service .building lasted since then until our generation closed it.the way we are going we'll have no heritage left.big thank you to you boys for recording this wonderful building, & a big shame to my government for the negligence of our historical past

Hi Alex & Ed, what Ed was trying to remember with that big gas light is the people who used to light them were called Lamplighter's. Those ceilings are gorgeous especially that one where Ed turned the lights on. A great explore, well done guys, that's another one off the list, now Buck House 😉 Thank you for sharing, much love. xx 🥰

At the bottom of the stairs in the alcove, were a set of stacked drums, embrassed by our colours, circa 39-50. There is the Victoria Cross room you also went in!

I’ve been to a few wedding receptions in that great room when this was still open to the public. If it is made in to a hotel I hope they do it sympathetically. So many of our historic buildings have been developed by housing developers around here. I’ve even worked on some of them which were done well and retained as much as the history as they could (as they are also listed buildings). It would be nice to see this place brought back to life rather than being left to rot. It looks like there’s already a fair amount of water ingress sadly.

Father Christmas upstairs and pirates in the cellars. A bugler played Sunset on the parade ground every night. Hard to believe it's now in such a state of disrepair.
