Honestly I feel like gore magala is many peoples favorite (including mine) for the same reason as why teostra is yours, because you spend so long fighting the same monster that you kinda form a rivalry with it, and fighting gore was a majority of the story in mh4u.
@@bukojoetheslapsoils8273why do people think everything that leans on the darker/more serious side is "edge"? It's a very reductive and dishonest way to dismiss something. Just because it's not as light and cheery as some other content doesn't make it edgelord bait.
You're actually completely correct about the eye thing, maybe more than you realize - The way you design something to highlight a certain portion is to create a flow towards it, Teostra's design does this very well with all it's sharp angles around the face and little things like the spike on the wing pointing towards the face instead of straight out like the raths. The bottom fangs are the big ones instead of the top ones so that it's teeth don't point you away from the eyes, and curve perfectly so their tip is facing directly towards the eyes. - There's also a whole thing with color that bright red is the color our eyes most want to look at, this is why "SALE" is almost always in red, it's proven to get our attention, so they toned down the red in favor of a very rich orange as time went on. They were also very careful to make his wings a dark shade as opposed to a light one like the raths so that your focus isn't on the wings even if it has them spread. Rathalos WANTS you to look at his wings, they're his main defining feature, he has bright blue eyes as well but his whole thing is being the king of the sky so his design doesn't overly focus on them. Teostra's wings are very dull compared to most other creatures with wings and I'm sure making them look all fuzzy was also an intentional choice to keep your eyes away from them. - His piercing blue eyes are inset in such a way that they are cloaked in shadows, with only the glow visible, and the blue contrasts a lot against the mostly warm design, theres not much to say about it's eyes because ultimately they're just "blue and glowy" and thats all they need to be. All this comes together to make it's design forcefully say LOOK AT MY EYES and the animators take this a step further in the more recent games by having it look around quite a bit, since they know you'll absolutely notice it doing so even in the heat of battle, even somebody like me who has an aversion to eye contact will feel compelled to look into this beasts eyes, as though it were judging you. Sans Undertale
That's honestly an amazing way to describe his design. I also always felt that compared to most monsters, in the more recent games, his eyes almost seem to have a distinct intelligence to them. I'm probably spouting nonsense but the way a Teostra's eyes look in Iceborne, it feels like if you spoke to it, it'd _understand_ you.
Not a huge fan of Teostra, he’s maybe in my top thirty or so monsters, but I can still appreciate the hell out of this video. This is a love letter to Teostra through and through and I can respect someone who can say they’ve had so many awesome experiences with their favorite monster. Great video, I hope to see more monster overviews from this channel in the future!
I can respect that opinion, he's not the most insanely interesting monster or the best fight or best design when you line em all up and look at em, he's a perfect storm for me. Hopefully I cover your favorite sometime soon, I intend to make a bunch of these
I heard all the hype behind him and was a little disappointed by the fight. Fighting Lunastra definitely gave me a new appreciation for Teo, but I still think Namielle has to take my #1 spot... Now THAT is the perfect storm.
In almost every game Teostra appears in, he remains my first quest fail in those playthroughs. He was a wall, and when I finally beat him, I went back to sweeping the game with ease and stubbornness.
Thank you I didn’t know other people like me existed it seemed like I was the only person who had teostra as their Favorite monster he is easily one of the best monsters in the entire series in my opinion he has it all weapons, armor, a amazing design. A great fight, and a kick ass song
Lunastra and teostra is my top 10 elder dragon , the lore about rivalry between huntsman and teostra in mhw , the supernova bonding , and the theme song bro 10/10
I ran the two of them in synch for the bulk of it, bringing in the GU theme and Rise theme a few times for extra emphasis before bringing it to those two alternating in the middle
I started my hunting journey in Rise. I still remember the time when Teostra was my wall for a day or two during my early High Rank days. He was the one that made me realize that monsters hit harder in this rank and always, ALWAYS, farm spheres to max out your armors as high as possible. It took me 10 attempts to take him down. His move-set was so tricky for me at the time. It was mostly the blast powder he has and the ways he uses it kept me so afraid to get in close and deal damage. Even worse is that I use the switch axe as my weapon. A weapon with little to no defense. But luckily I was able to take him down and continue my journey in High Rank. That’s until Risen Teostra came into the picture. Now look, I got maxed out master rank armors, good talismans, and decent enough Qurio crafting rolls and all that. And here comes an infected Teostra and 3 carted my ass like I was nothing, on my first attempt. And man, I couldn’t believe that this monster clapped and humbled my ass AGAIN 😂😂😂. All in all I love this monster. He’s the one that made me realize what I need to do when i’m in the higher ranks of MH, and prioritize on making stronger weapons and armors. Nowadays I see him as a rival of sorts and I always have a joy fighting him. No matter what version of him. He is a great monster through and through! All Hail The Emperor of Flames! 🔥
This video makes me happy seeing other people talk about their favorite. It reminds me a lot about how Valstrax became my favorite monster. Long before I even laid a finger on one of the games, my friend told me about this elder dragon that was basically a jet. He showed me the cinematic of Valstrax and I just fell in love immediately. As soon as I found out Val was in Rise, the amount of excitement I got was unexplainable even if it was just a variant. I love that they were able to design such a unique creature and the biology still made sense. I finished Rise and Sunbreak, but I got Generations Ultimate so I can finally stand face to face with my favorite monster in his home turf. He will forever be the true king of the skies to me.
I remember a teostra hunt in rise , it was like my 3rd teo hunt. teo was low , we had no chances for mistakes. I was in a corner and teo starts up his nova. and THE SECOND BEFORE WE LOST IT , SOMEONE GOT A HIT IN AND TEO FELL AND DIED THAT WAS SO BLOODY SCARY , WE WERE ABOUT TO LOSE THE WHOLE QUEST IT WAS SO COOL
@@yaqubebased1961 it was my first game , AND this was the release day of the title update , we were all getting used to the new versions of the elder dragon trio
My history with Teostra is sort of similar. I also started with Tri and 3U but I never played any of the 4th gen games (though I'm playing through GU on Switch now) so I never got to fight any of these older elder dragons until I jumped back into Monster Hunter when World launched. He was the first monster in the game to triple cart me and had me actually wondering how tf Nergigante preys on it lol. Then after a few more attempts at it and after thoroughly learning its moves and tells, something just "clicked" and I was suddenly wondering how I ever struggled at all. Teostra became my favorite elder dragon to fight in the game. It went from humbling me to being a fight I genuinely enjoy, and that hasn't changed with Rise either despite it massively improving Kushala's moveset to also be enjoyable. Great video just like your Rathalos vid. Looking forward to see which monsters you'll cover in the future.
Teo is especially a rathalos times 100X not just in rank but also in swagger too. He’s got a wife like rathalos…but better. He’s the emperor of flame and more than a mere king. And his into in rise and world make look like a boss. Long like teostra!
The Flame/Sun Hashira himself! Teostra definitely grew as one of my all time favorite monsters over the years plus he was the original Flagship monster of Frontier before Espinas came in.
My experience with the Monster Hunter series was overall pretty similar to yours. I first played Tri, then went back and bought a PSP along with MHFU during the long wait for 3 Ultimate. However, the Elder Dragon I ended up really enjoying was Kushala Daora. I know its older iterations have a pretty bad reputation now, but back in 2nd gen I don't remember it being quite as bad with the tornado camping. (Could it even summon a big tornado back then? I don't even remember... it's been too long) The wind aura was definitely its most irritating trait back then, however, but it did help me learn how to properly position myself and have more awareness of my weapon's hitboxes so I could hit its head or tail without getting pushed back by the wind. I wouldn't necessarily call it my "white whale", but any fight which forced me to rethink about my playstyle and adapt accordingly is memorable in my book. Same with how the Nargacuga taught me about making use of the dodge roll's i-frames. And I don't know... the design of an European-style dragon with a steel coating on its shell which can manipulate the wind always appealed to me a lot for some reason. But unlike Teostra, which really found its identity in MH4U and World, Kushala's 4th and early 5th gen iteration arguably made it worst and worst. Super irritating fight, and had Rise and Sunbreak not fixed it completely, I don't think if it would have stayed my favorite monster still. The Supernova addition to Teostra's moveset really made it jump up on my favorites list, though. I used to fight it very carefully and defensively since it was so aggressive, so obviously after eating a supernova in the face I was forced to rethink about my approach as well.
I agree that old Kushala was not a bad monster, like at all, it's really World and Iceborne that did him so fucking dirty. Rise might be my favorite incarnation of him just cuz I think Rise has excellent gameplay overall. And for whatever reason a super dragon-y dragon with a metal shell that controls winds and tornados just... works. I dunno who thought up a metal wind dragon, I dunno why they work so well, but it makes him conceptually fantastic. And since he's a roster staple, hopefully World is just a bad blip in his history
@@cr-volcanic Oh, right! And how could I forget about the weird theme going on with Kushala's weapons! While Teo's are pretty consistent, Kushala's just seem to each represent a random animal... or bird... or reptile... or even mollusk in the Insect Glaive's case. And with Rise adding the wolves Dual Blades I'm still completely confused and I kinda like it.
I always loved the Toaster Lion (and his mate as well), one of my top 5 monsters My personal favorite is the Bane of Schrade, and i hope the next game gives us Crimson and White
Teostra is absolutely my favorite elder. All three versions of his theme are as fire as the flames he generates, his armor is usually really good if maximum DPS is your goal, and his design is just...(chef's kiss).
My personal favorite monster is Valstrax! When I first started following Monster Hunter, I didn't have a PS4, nor did I want to get one. As a result I just followed playthroughs of World/Iceborne. I would be hyped alongside fellow players even though I would never fight those monsters myself. Eventually I turned my sights to the older games.... and there I saw a crimson comet in the sky. I saw a silver scaled dragon, with jet engine wings that used a supernatural fuel. My first thought was "How do I find it?" And so I played through Generations Ultimate. And I found a monster whose design, ecology, and fight I adored. And above all his MUSIC. He has the BEST song in the series. THAT is why I love the Crimson Comet so so much. I. Love. Valstrax.
Rathian and rathalos are technically the same monster and so are lunastra and teostra pretty neat. But yeah teostra is definitely best explody cat. A really fun fight as well to be honest hard for me to describe how i feel about him. I'd say his risen design is the best one(out of all risen designs) and how well it just fits him while shagaru is second specifically because it loosely references moons and solar eclipses lightly considering og shaggy represents the stars. Something to note: Teostra dual blades do ice and blast and always require kushala daora parts i think that may be part of why kushala is always in whenever teo is in(in 2 there was fire and ice dual blades made with both parts it's a callback to this). here's a fun fact for ya: 4u's wyporium lets you get lunastra parts by trading in teostra parts and lets you get her armor p neat. requires a quest done beforehand tho. also in world i heard that breaking some elders horns are just a moment of free elderseal and a major topple i know from kirin it at least weakens it's armor for a bit im guessing the same is for kushala and teostra don't try it for them cuz ya know it hurts. Also yeah it's kinda sad how repelling just stopped completely in 5th gen except for saafi/kulve and technically but not really lunastra iirc Edit: Oh i forgot uh rampages i only remembered cuz i was sweeping up through lower rank quests and it just said in the middle of the screen *"repel" magnamalo* even then repelling in rampages is not the same at all. Sure conceptually but you dont re-encounter the monster with same damage to it it's just telling it to shoo off essentially.
Honestly I think teostra and lunastra would go in my 15th and 16th favorite monster spots, its a sight to behold when they are together and I really want them both in wilds so I can see them fully fleshed out together and their full biology since gillie mantle is back. As for my favorite monster its goss harag, I love him so much like how much you love teostra, which is why I love this video. The dedication and compassion to your favorite monster compiled into a 30+ minute love letter deserves praise.
Teo left a huge mark in my heart during frontier era I spent weeks grinding out his deco, getting my first set of Blazing Majesty and Strong Attack skill I think the deco name was BM GX 1 or something like that and by god I fucking love this guy now hearing the theme made me feel like I'm in the presence of a daunting Emperor that just look down on you I can't fucking help but to feel like saying "YES MY LIEGE" and salute to him
This video was downright amazing. I'm a huge fan of Teostra my self but my favorite is Gore magala. I started with 4U and the story of me being a fledgling hunter working my way up and evolving alongside Gore magala is gonna stay in my heart for a very long time. Would love a video like this for my fav but regardless keep up the good work
If Mufasa could transform into a Teostra near death he would have survived. There would be a truly frightened brother running for his life whilst the flames engulfed him and death took him! 😾🦁🔥
something i love about teostra in older games is that small monsters evacuate when it appears and it causes heat waves as well even more scary is that teostra's heat waves intensify and quite literally brighten the area when enraged its a aestetic that i really like the look of
I have mad respect for teostra, his appearance, theme, fight, concept. All of it. But he only takes #2 on my list. #1? That spot belongs to my one true love in monster hunter: Bazelguese. The true king who has been denied the respect he deserves. While I could stand to fight teostra several times in a row, I just can't go toe to toe with him for hours on end like I can with the AC-130 given monster form.
Teostra is one of the fights that held up in all types of games. Because he has the basic elder moveset that works really well in old gens, AOEs that work really well in world, the combos and beams that work really well in rise
A great video about a solid monster. While it's not my favorite it's still a beloved classic imo and good to know I'm not the only one that adores the Master Rank Armor, been using that bad boi ALOT just for a purely fashion sense especially the new risen version since making it pure black and me coloring the other bits with gold is just *chefs kiss*. Now I'm curious what monster is your most hated.
Thank you! Yeah the title's just be bein goofy but I love the guy, and holy shit dude that Risen armor is immaculate. My least favorite monster... I don't like King Shakalaka from Freedom Unite cuz I simply don't think he fits, I don't like the idea of a humanoid, sapient enemy in Monster Hunter. But he's a really out there special exception. I'd say my favorite Monster, monster is prooooobably Cephadrome. His design is pretty uninteresting, his moveset is bland, the paralysis is obnoxious, and he was actual torture in the old games for how unyieldingly tedious he was. He's pretty damn bad. Even 4U really didn't help him at all. I don't think I've ever seen a monster more designed to waste time.
@@cr-volcanic absolute facts. Cephadrome was a mistake and I will never forgive it for wasting my time since mh1 AND stealing a monstie spot in stories over Plesioth who atleast is iconic with its infamy.
im not a big fan of teo but i felt so good when i finally beat teostra in generations, that fight was a massive pain in my ass and defeating teostra was surely an accomplishment, i wont say it was a good hunt but rather a big challenge for me to beat if i want to keep playing the game, now, his insta charges and claw swipes are absolutely foul but man gold rath is so much much worse compared to teostra, so i kinda started appreciating teostra (specially after this nightmare of hunt a the 2 metal raths and) and i must say that teostra in mhworld/iceborne was really really fun, its still hard and makes you use your brain to hunt, so i have some respect for teostra
Teo/Lunastra is prob my 2nd fav after nargacuga. You forgot to mention his absolute banger of a theme song...although that intro was really excellent!! :D
Rise was my first entry and when I fought Teostra I was so Enamored with it it made its theme play in village, I LOVE manticores and Teostra just so UGH. Wish Lunastra was in Rise as well since she’s also a pretty old monster curious to why she was excluded. Risen Teostra’s colors are very beautiful as well, it’s so awesome
Lots of elder dragons have metallic scales and hides, not just Kushala. Valstrax and Nergigante come to mind immediately, but probably not just them; Teostra’s hairs are supposedly to be incredibly hard, maybe there’s something up there. Compounds or elements of their body are likely used to alloy the armor-maybe their blood. It’s an animal with a diet of mineral and ores so there’s probably a good bit of those making up its body that could be combined into the armor. The hairs and horns do seem to be used at the very least.
I don’t have such poetic reasons for my favorite monster: Nargacuga. My first MH game was MH stories 2, and I had a Nargacuga, Green Narga or Silverwind in my party the majority of the game. I love his design and all his ( mainline ) variants, and his fight was really fun when I finally got my hands on world. I think his idea of a nocturnal stealth predator is awesome, and I love his assortment of hidden weapons. He’s my most hunted momster ( discounting weak stuff like Jagras and Juratodus or whatever ) and I try to capture as many as I can.
In 4U guild quests, the big explosive race car kitty will run your entire squad over. He smacks like Apex Tigrex and will force you to use max potions, as he spins around to nail you if you ever decide to use an item. There's no standing around with Teostra, just crazy running, GS sheath control, IGs, status stacked sets and a stopwatch. Hes more fun than flashspamming Kush and Chameleos has garbage hitzones unless you're stacking element.
4U was a while ago for me but I definitely remember Teo being a menace in that game. And that totally explains why it always felt like Chameleos had 10 million HP 😂. I distinctly remember that fight dragging on foreeeeeeever
As someone who likes more grounded monsters I love teostra amazing fight and greater design and one of many examples of the monster hunter team being excellent at injecting personality into animals.
world was my first game and pretty much everything kicked my teeth in but when I finally started getting the hang of things and got to teostra he just annihilated me over and over again.. so yea love him 10/10 :) also just today got to risen teostra and I'm obsessed
I have the same strong bond with Kushala Daora as you with Teostra.. I was and still am obsessed with storms, tornadoes and adore much more the cold weather etc.... Most recently I "created" the our entire western zodiac sign circle with the Elder Dragons. Per example: Kushala Daora - Scorpion Teostra - Leo (obviously) Chameleos - as a "symbol" of easter and so on... and summer is coming! Happy Teostra time then! 🔥🔥🔥
There’s a reason he appears in every game, Teostra is like the perfect elder dragon. I love the soundtrack. The only thing I don’t like is his insta slap attack that I can never manage to avoid, other than that he’s pretty good
Toa is fuckin fascinating, great design, I love how they retooled basically all of Teo's fire abilities into Ice, and if you're gonna do one origin species, why not do several, I'd love to have Toa
I played Monster Hunter World after a long hiatus... First encountered Teostra there, and was ready for pain, after the other elder dragons I was expecting... Gimmicks and pain Instead, I had a monster who greeted me, allowed me to enter HIS arena, and would fight me as an equal, no escapes or anything, pure power on display, clear telegraphed attacks that made me feel stupid for failing to dodge, made me improve And still had, fair combos, where his most devastating attacks, it would feel like he would then stand there and watch me get up and heal, before he would then begin to warm up back into his attacks, like a noble warrior waiting for you to retrieve your weapon. He was, so chad And then Kushala happened, was a major asshole to me, stressed me out... THEN TEOSTRA CAME OUT OF NO WHERE, GRABBED AND SLAMMED HIM, THEN JUST LOOKED AT ME AND LEFT. Just, walk in, suplex the monster, refuses to elaborate, leaves. And because of that I could actually take down Kushala without being sent off the cliff 30 times
Ironically, most of my white whales come from monster hunter. The three that come to mind are Goldbeard Ceadeus, 3U Alatreon, and Velkhana. I also have a couple from Dark Souls(Artorias and the Nameless King specifically) but neither stuck out to me like the ones from Monster Hunter.
I remember I was excited about Teostra being added as a monstie in Stories 2 (cause the US didn’t get him in the first one) I now am a proud owner/rider of a mighty yet noble flying Detonation box
In metal work, you need carbon to turn iron to steel. For the metal armor set, the materials of the monsters could be cremated and the ashes could be used in the process. That's actually something you can do when you die. There are services that cremate you and use your ashes to make knives, swords, diamonds, etc.
Teostra, Malzeno, Valstrax, Shagaru Magala, Velkhana and now Amatsu these are my favorites I can't just pick one. great video, I do think Teostra is great but he is the least dragon like.
Teostra being a draconified manticore is such a cool and simple concept and it become such a timeless design (except for its risen fight). After I saw one of velkhana's beta concept being a draconified ice gryphon I was utterly disappointed on what we have being another generic western dragon. It would have been awesome that the dragon of ice and fire are based off of mythological beasts.
My favourite monster has always been zamtrios, despite the fact that I've never played the game he's originated in yet. The game that got me into monster hunter was mh stories, and zamtrios was incredibly reliable and pretty much my ace throughout the entire game. I just think he's neat, a splendid little fellow is he. So angular, yet still smooth, ice incasing him as an armour and I love it when monsters wear armour.
I can't say objectively, but my top favorite as it stands currently has to be Legiana. It's so well integrated into its environment, it stands out a lot in shape and color from most other flying wyverns, the ecology and physiology behind it tied with its home turf of the coral highlands is fascinating and very fitting, I really love its fight and sound design, and it's just flat out pretty. Plus its armor, especially HR, slaps. Legi supremacy for sure
For the end segment after the in summation part, you need to make the music louder. As it stands it just feels like an awkward pause where I'm waiting for you talk more.
not gonna lie id love to see the repel mechanic return in wilds the thought of having an actual rivalry with an elder dragon in the next gen sounds so cool
Teostra is _so badass_ and everything about this video is fact. That being said: I fucking _HATE_ fighting him. Despite how much I've grown as a Monster Hunter over the years, he _(and Lunastra)_ still beat my ass. And that geniune vitriolic hatred I have for fighting him somehow makes him even cooler.
Honestly teostra the toaster gave me the coolest moment in world when we were both one strike from death (I was on my last faint), and I just barely got him before he hit his supernova one of the more enjoyable fights in world
It's not a white whale for me as I was able to defeat them without carting too much but my absolute fave has been Zinogre and Amatsu. Something about their presence is MHP3rd was magnetic? Hypnotic? That Zinogre staring up at the clouds while lightning flashed and rain fell down in that cutscene really felt mystical and mysterious to me. Especially knowing that he is probably staring at Amatsu floating up there.
Personally not a fan of pre-5th gen Teo's fight, but he's always had a great design and World and Especially Rise has made him awesome and my new favorite of the Trio even over Chammy
For me While Duremudira isn’t What I’d say is the best monster (that is Guanzorumu) But he will always be my favorite His fight is the best… Experience I’ve had not even in just video games but in general Brutally hard, But Fair 3 weeks of attempts (my biggest wall) and I finally slay him with a mere 2 seconds left He is a Specatular design being Striking alien and Overall badass His music is Orgasmic sounding like the world is ending His animations are phenomenal with his Revival being A legendary moment His home (the Sky corridor) is Fucking awesome and the fact It’s a Dungeon crawler makes it even better He doesn’t have unique gear, rather a system similar to Safi (cept the devs made a website for you to make drafts of what you wanted to make) making awesome and powerful gear A legendary monster that means the world for me
I hope teostra gets to keep his Risin moveset as his baseline normal moveset moving forward, that and the old elder dragon repal mechanic would really make teostra and other elders feal mythical agien, would also love to see him eat ores from mining spots, would be a great way to see that lore of him eating ores in game
My favorites are Nargacuga and Anjanath. Why? I love Nargacuga sounding like a cat when it roars, being able to cloak itself and cleave trees clean in two with its arms. Its pretty much an oversized panther with a spikey tail that can even launch its own scales as weapons. I like anjanath because im a sucker for dinosaurs and not only does it look like one at first, but that massive crest that comes from its nose and those little flaps that comes from its side just seem so cool to me. Its basically a crested, winged, fire breathing T. Rex and I'm all here for it.
25:47 this isn't based on anything but, I like the idea that the scales are being mixed into the steel which by monster hunter logic makes some wacky Damascus steel that is actually stronger depending on the monster (please incorporate more of the old weapon designs tho Capcom, I miss the Seltas drill hammer)
My favorite monster is gysporose (even if I can not spell his name half the time) because he taught be all about hit zones with different weapon types the importance of breaking parts and most importantly how to get extra carves before you get hit
Well, I really wouldn't say any monsters are objectively the best, as this would all be within a subjective range. A monster I can call my number one is Deviljho. I love him for so many reasons: His design slaps hard, he generally has an air of terror whenever he appears regardless of the generation, his abilities and fight are incredible, and his lore is just the loveliest amount of creepy. I have had countless experiences with him in the games, from him dropping in to save my sorry ass in World to merely hearing the ground shake as I tried to climb up that one ledge in Flooded Forest in 3U to run away from him. I could never deal with him, up until I got that quest. He was my nemesis up until I farmed him, which I found easier than most as I had dealt with him SO much across High Rank.
Oh for sure man, I’m just bein cheeky with the title. He’s just my favorite. Deviljho fuckin rocks I still remember him bursting into Querupeco quests in early high rank
1. Tri was also your first game. 2. Teostra is also Your favorite monster. 3. Monster Hunter is one of, if not our favorite series YOU AND I ARE FREAKING KINDRED SPIRITS!!!
Chameleos is better imo, he's the perfect mix of goofy and threatening, and has a God tier theme. But Teo's pretty great too tho, we don't get enough Manticores nowadays.
Chameleos is a great pick, most Elder Dragons tend to fall into the stoic prideful category, or the ultra violent destroyer category, and to have a wacky, goofy Elder is such a breath of fresh air, and Rise gave him a really good fight
@@cr-volcanic Yeah him just wanting to be left alone is both unique and funny, makes him stealing your stuff, poisoning you, and going invisible feel less cunning and malicious and more just him trying to get everyone to leave him alone. World is great and all but man did it hurt when they tried to replace my boy with something "cooler". Vaal could've been great and fit the whole natural disaster theme of the Elder trio better, since they were supposed to be fire, storms, and plagues, poison doesn't feel strong enough aesthetically to embody plague, but Chameleos just had too much personality for Vaal to compete with.
Great tribute to Teostra, love this dude. Visited the MonHun Cafe in JP a few years back and got a dish and alcoholic beverage with his name on it cuz he is my favorite Elder Dragon. Why complain about an ice move being "too cartoonish" in the end, when you have footage of a duel blade user doing summersaults into mid air ballerina spin doing 20 hits before hitting the ground...while you say it? Far as I'm concerned, it fits whatever version of the game it's in.
Chameleos is always there he simply just never decides to not appear either because he stoopid, or he is so smart he knows he will be turned into pants. I thoroughly enjoyed 5th gen teo with the lance in world, I actually haven't faced an old world Teostra... yet not even in GU, one day.
For me that same expirience was Bazelgeuse. I just couldnt kill him constantly in world. My high risk playstyle whitch was great against any other target, was just blasted by pinecones. yeah, i ocasionally killed him but mostly i prefere to evade encounters. And.. when MR quest hit me. 2 of this freakers. First time i was carted like i was bunch of vegetables on farm.... Aaaaand second time i beat them without even dropping to half once. I wenmt with a longsword, whitch i ocasionally used so wasnt complete newbie but i swear to god, in my 1k+ hours of world, i maybe hunted with a longsword 20-30 times, most of whitch were Kulve. The reason - im suck REALLY BAD at parrying. But at that run - all stars were in place. Whey did shittond damage to each other, i glided like a storm wind, slicing bastards to pieces. 80+ percent of that hunt both of them were together. Somehow... i prevailed. I had a lot of moments with a bazel. Bombing in the camp, crushing my hunts and ruining it, usual stuff much of the players had with him and the reason hes so hated and loved(also the reason i completely hate both Sunbreak version and seething), but somehow - this exact hunt stood out the most. Despite the fact that it wasnt the skill - luck was the reason i did it mostly, i did it nontheless. Bazel still has special place in my heart. I had his theme for a morning alarm for a few years, and i swear to god - first 2 weeks i catapulted myself from my bed every freaking morning without a hint of a sleep. It became something casual lately, so when i changed my phone, i didnt download that theme. Also, rise kinda ruined him for me. But that initial challenge, struggle, memes.... Everything from it makes it special. Its really sad that developers didnt see it, and new MH games becoming easyer and easyer by the title, with only challenge being deep endgame. I mean... This game is a literally about having bossfights, why tf whey should be eashy? Whey should be memorable. And most of the times - difficulty is a part of that expirience that makes it special and memorable. I really hope 6gen will have difficulty progression of world(and its patches) with engame akin to rise. This would make such a blast Basel wasnt my first wall in MH, nor even in mhw(this honor goes to Anjanath), nor was he hardest(Fatalis), but out of all them - he was most memorable.
Can you do a video on the empress slap that bootay, also a tease that they put a mangrove mushroom on the ancient forest next to the rathalos nest lmao.
Teostra could be my least favourite monster and I would still like this video because of the Pokke theme. To me, its home. Luckily, Teo is a badass. Fantastic video man.
I like Teostra's fight a lot, and i absolutely ADORE his theme, but the only thing thst keeps me from seeing him as top tier is his design. He wouldnt be Teostra if he looked different but damn do i wish he was more draconic and less feline Anyways editingnthis now after careful consideration i do actually like his design, its just not got the power my objective best monsters, Agnaktor and Nergigante, have for me
Solo alatreon was my white whale. Now it's solo fatalis. Can't do it, don't think I'll ever be able to. I got close, but that was like a year ago and now I'm too rusty and not used to world to even try anymore
Commenting again, but I think there IS an in-lore point to making the armor look like it's made entirely from parts of the monster - it's because elder dragon hide is actually a better armor material than any metal. Materials of elder dragons are often described as being "rigid yet flexible" or "incredibly thick and durable yet light and easy to move in" - contradictory statements that tell of the near-supernatural qualities of these beasts. And when every part of the beastie is better than metal for protection, why not use as much of it as possible?
As someone who had to farm him for 4 teostra gems in 4U: No, he's an evil fiend undeserving of mercy and his kind shall be eradicated! Still good video tho.
Honestly I feel like gore magala is many peoples favorite (including mine) for the same reason as why teostra is yours, because you spend so long fighting the same monster that you kinda form a rivalry with it, and fighting gore was a majority of the story in mh4u.
4U probably still has the strongest story in Monster Hunter and the Magalas deserve to be beloved for that, I’ll be covering them soon
Gore Magala is many people's fave because a huge chunk of the gaming mass love edgelords.
MH4U was my favorite. And seeing Gore Become Shagaru was cool as fuuuck.
And then seeing Chaotic was brutal
@@bukojoetheslapsoils8273why do people think everything that leans on the darker/more serious side is "edge"? It's a very reductive and dishonest way to dismiss something. Just because it's not as light and cheery as some other content doesn't make it edgelord bait.
You're actually completely correct about the eye thing, maybe more than you realize
- The way you design something to highlight a certain portion is to create a flow towards it, Teostra's design does this very well with all it's sharp angles around the face and little things like the spike on the wing pointing towards the face instead of straight out like the raths.

@@grayson295 RUclips commenters when they have to read more than a single sentence:
Hopefully I cover your favorite sometime soon, I intend to make a bunch of these
@@cr-volcanic Probably not for me. My favorite is a low level flying squirrel

I forgot about the bit with the Huntsman. That was a cool little mini story in World
All Hail the Emperor of Flames.
Teostra in World was so badass
super happy that youtube recommended me one of your videos! it was an enjoyable watch, you just got yourself a new subscriber
Thank you! Welcome aboard, happy to have ya!
Im convinced you added the world theme and the reverse chase together in the intro showcase. that foreboding, king feeling has been clearer
I ran the two of them in synch for the bulk of it, bringing in the GU theme and Rise theme a few times for extra emphasis before bringing it to those two alternating in the middle
0:35 and onwards might just be the single greatest tribute towards a monster I've ever seen... IT'S BEAUTIFUUUUUUUULLL!!!!!
Hahaha! Thank you so much. Those music video-esque pieces are a fucking blast to put together and I wanna make em nuttier and crazier every time!
Love hearing the personal stories that players have with the individual monsters
I kind of like the orange better on Teostra in his risen form from sunbreak. Not gonna lie, the orange is sweet.
I remember a teostra hunt in rise , it was like my 3rd teo hunt.
teo was low , we had no chances for mistakes.
I was in a corner and teo starts up his nova.
and THE SECOND BEFORE WE LOST IT , SOMEONE GOT A HIT IN AND TEO FELL AND DIED
THAT WAS SO BLOODY SCARY , WE WERE ABOUT TO LOSE THE WHOLE QUEST IT WAS SO COOL

Much appreciated. And yeah dude, thank God for Rise's Kushala Daora, I've been wanting him to have a good fight for so long
Teo is especially a rathalos times 100X not just in rank but also in swagger too.
True! He’s on the cover of the box for the original game
I don't even remember... it's been too long)
The wind aura was definitely its most irritating trait back then, however, but it did help me learn how to properly position myself and have more awareness of my weapon's hitboxes so I could hit its head or tail without getting pushed back by the wind.
And with Rise adding the wolves Dual Blades I'm still completely confused and I kinda like it.
the video i needed!!!!! nearly 1400 teo later i feel like people dont give him enough credit. hes the bestest boi ever
Ngl world was my first game, and vaal hazak will always be my favorite but you sir opened my eyes to teostra the gear especially thank you
I’d love to see Vaal again. Fantastic design and ecology but I think his fight has some untapped potential
I always loved the Toaster Lion (and his mate as well), one of my top 5 monsters
My personal favorite is the Bane of Schrade, and i hope the next game gives us Crimson and White
I. Love. Valstrax.
glad to jump in on the subscriber ground floor here! very impressive video, i love these two lion dragons too
Welcome aboard. Stuff's only gonna get better from here
So cool and badass and yet so underrated
Also yeah it's kinda sad how repelling just stopped completely in 5th gen except for saafi/kulve and technically but not really lunastra iirc
Edit: Oh i forgot uh rampages i only remembered cuz i was sweeping up through lower rank quests and it just said in the middle of the screen *"repel" magnamalo* even then repelling in rampages is not the same at all.
Teo left a huge mark in my heart during frontier era
I spent weeks grinding out his deco, getting my first set of Blazing Majesty and Strong Attack skill
I think the deco name was BM GX 1 or something like that
and by god I fucking love this guy now
hearing the theme made me feel like I'm in the presence of a daunting Emperor that just look down on you
I can't fucking help but to feel like saying "YES MY LIEGE" and salute to him
This video was downright amazing. I'm a huge fan of Teostra my self but my favorite is Gore magala. I started with 4U and the story of me being a fledgling hunter working my way up and evolving alongside Gore magala is gonna stay in my heart for a very long time. Would love a video like this for my fav but regardless keep up the good work
Oh trust, the Magalas are on the list
You're a proud member of the "House Teostra" Congrats! Maybe a fanart with you and Teostra would be epic..🔥
I was hoping and praying you would talk about the risen armor T_T the headpiece looks so amazing!
yeh, probably should have
Teostra is one of the fights that held up in all types of games.
@@King-jw7dm OH Damn, you got the MH1 torture? Even I didn't get it that bad, at least I fought him in MHFU
im not a big fan of teo but i felt so good when i finally beat teostra in generations, that fight was a massive pain in my ass and defeating teostra was surely an accomplishment, i wont say it was a good hunt but rather a big challenge for me to beat if i want to keep playing the game, now, his insta charges and claw swipes are absolutely foul but man gold rath is so much much worse compared to teostra, so i kinda started appreciating teostra (specially after this nightmare of hunt a the 2 metal raths and)
and i must say that teostra in mhworld/iceborne was really really fun, its still hard and makes you use your brain to hunt, so i have some respect for teostra
Teo/Lunastra is prob my 2nd fav after nargacuga. You forgot to mention his absolute banger of a theme song...although that intro was really excellent!! :D
I might talk more about themes more in the future but I’m not very musically literate. The opening is me “talking” about the music
Now that they gave Lunastra a pretty big overhaul, I’m willing to bet we’ll see her more often
I love how you used a battle theme and his rise intro❤
Lots of elder dragons have metallic scales and hides, not just Kushala. Valstrax and Nergigante come to mind immediately, but probably not just them; Teostra’s hairs are supposedly to be incredibly hard, maybe there’s something up there. Compounds or elements of their body are likely used to alloy the armor-maybe their blood.
It’s an animal with a diet of mineral and ores so there’s probably a good bit of those making up its body that could be combined into the armor. The hairs and horns do seem to be used at the very least.
Could make sense
This is exactly how I feel about my favorite monster, Tigrex
Fuckin love Tigrex
As someone who likes more grounded monsters I love teostra amazing fight and greater design and one of many examples of the monster hunter team being excellent at injecting personality into animals.
world was my first game and pretty much everything kicked my teeth in but when I finally started getting the hang of things and got to teostra he just annihilated me over and over again.. so yea love him 10/10 :) also just today got to risen teostra and I'm obsessed
Risen Teo is a damn good fight
I have the same strong bond with Kushala Daora as you with Teostra.. I was and still am obsessed with storms, tornadoes and adore much more the cold weather etc.... Most recently I "created" the our entire western zodiac sign circle with the Elder Dragons.
Per example:
Kushala Daora - Scorpion
Teostra - Leo (obviously)
Chameleos - as a "symbol" of easter
and so on...
and summer is coming! Happy Teostra time then! 🔥🔥🔥
There’s a reason he appears in every game, Teostra is like the perfect elder dragon. I love the soundtrack. The only thing I don’t like is his insta slap attack that I can never manage to avoid, other than that he’s pretty good
I love teostra, but tbh I prefer toa tesukatora because making an ice teostra is just cooler imo
Toa is fuckin fascinating, great design, I love how they retooled basically all of Teo's fire abilities into Ice, and if you're gonna do one origin species, why not do several, I'd love to have Toa
I love them both equally I still cannot decide who I like more lol
I played Monster Hunter World after a long hiatus... First encountered Teostra there, and was ready for pain, after the other elder dragons I was expecting... Gimmicks and pain
Instead, I had a monster who greeted me, allowed me to enter HIS arena, and would fight me as an equal, no escapes or anything, pure power on display, clear telegraphed attacks that made me feel stupid for failing to dodge, made me improve
And still had, fair combos, where his most devastating attacks, it would feel like he would then stand there and watch me get up and heal, before he would then begin to warm up back into his attacks, like a noble warrior waiting for you to retrieve your weapon.
He was, so chad
And then Kushala happened, was a major asshole to me, stressed me out...
Well, now I know what’s going in my will
@@cr-volcanicbro's gonna become Teostra armor 💀💀
I clicked on this video because I never really cared for Teostra, and yeah. This made me appreciate him a lot more.
What a great video.
Ha! Happy to show you the glory of the Kaiser! Full seriousness, it’s super cool to hear that. Thank you!
Teostra is my favorite among the Elder Dragons just because of how majestic it looks. I also love Velkhana and Ceadeus for the same reason.
For the end segment after the in summation part, you need to make the music louder. As it stands it just feels like an awkward pause where I'm waiting for you talk more.
Noted next time I’ll start it louder and gradually bring it down for the conclusion portion
not gonna lie id love to see the repel mechanic return in wilds the thought of having an actual rivalry with an elder dragon in the next gen sounds so cool
Honestly teostra the toaster gave me the coolest moment in world when we were both one strike from death (I was on my last faint), and I just barely got him before he hit his supernova one of the more enjoyable fights in world
true
Teostra: One of the best
Lunastra: One of the worst
Yeah, he's only aight in the old games. He doesn't do a lot with his fire and his instant charges are obnoxious.
For me While Duremudira isn’t What I’d say is the best monster (that is Guanzorumu)
But he will always be my favorite
His fight is the best… Experience I’ve had not even in just video games but in general
Brutally hard, But Fair
3 weeks of attempts (my biggest wall) and I finally slay him with a mere 2 seconds left
He is a Specatular design being Striking alien and Overall badass
His music is Orgasmic sounding like the world is ending
His animations are phenomenal with his Revival being A legendary moment
His home (the Sky corridor) is Fucking awesome and the fact It’s a Dungeon crawler makes it even better
He doesn’t have unique gear, rather a system similar to Safi (cept the devs made a website for you to make drafts of what you wanted to make) making awesome and powerful gear
A legendary monster that means the world for me
I really like Teostra, a certified classic to be sure. Top 20 for me easy.
Teostra, my glorious king 👑🛡⚔️
Fuck yeah brother
My favorite monster is gysporose (even if I can not spell his name half the time) because he taught be all about hit zones with different weapon types the importance of breaking parts and most importantly how to get extra carves before you get hit
Damn really?! I don’t think I ever would meet someone whose favorite monster was Gypceros. I like your reasons for it
Well, I really wouldn't say any monsters are objectively the best, as this would all be within a subjective range.
Deviljho fuckin rocks I still remember him bursting into Querupeco quests in early high rank
damn, now i want MH6 to bring the Elder Dragon Repel mechanic back
3:30 Until the next video, where it's declared that Zinogre occasionally dethrones him 😁
me a kushala enthusiast: ez rock paper scissors
1. Tri was also your first game.
2. Teostra is also Your favorite monster.
3. Monster Hunter is one of, if not our favorite series
YOU AND I ARE FREAKING KINDRED SPIRITS!!!
@@cr-volcanic great channel btw, keep up the good work, mate :)
Oh I didn't get a good shot of them but its the icicles themselves, they kinda look like giant zelda rupees, I just didn't love the shape
This would make such a blast
Basel wasnt my first wall in MH, nor even in mhw(this honor goes to Anjanath), nor was he hardest(Fatalis), but out of all them - he was most memorable.
Can you do a video on the empress slap that bootay, also a tease that they put a mangrove mushroom on the ancient forest next to the rathalos nest lmao.
Teostra is the poster child of elder dragons
Teostra could be my least favourite monster and I would still like this video because of the Pokke theme. To me, its home. Luckily, Teo is a badass. Fantastic video man.
Dude, that track is immaculate. It just makes you feel cozy. I'll keep using it for second generation monster videos. I know people love that track.
If we are all being honest I’ll go ahead and say deviljho is my favourite monster but I think he should of had bazleguse’s music
Designwise 10/10
Fight 6/10 in rise (depends on the game of course)
I think I'd personally give his Rise fight an 8. But hey, agree to disagree
I like Teostra's fight a lot, and i absolutely ADORE his theme, but the only thing thst keeps me from seeing him as top tier is his design. He wouldnt be Teostra if he looked different but damn do i wish he was more draconic and less feline
Anyways editingnthis now after careful consideration i do actually like his design, its just not got the power my objective best monsters, Agnaktor and Nergigante, have for me
Solo alatreon was my white whale. Now it's solo fatalis. Can't do it, don't think I'll ever be able to. I got close, but that was like a year ago and now I'm too rusty and not used to world to even try anymore
if the discord ping at 7:08 is intentional I might just have to cry
Teostra is a 9 for me and risen teo is 11/10
He’s solid
yeahhh but i like arzuros bc hes a cute bear
Note to self I'm at 26:37 I'll return once I've hunted risen teo
There is no such thing as objectively the best
;p
Espinas is my favorite none elder dragon
if i count elder dragons shagaru comes first in my favorite monsters
I will hear you out despite how I dislike him (Lunastra is worse though.)
Lol I appreciate the open mind, he's just my personal favorite, title's just me being goofy
