Good news! From your last deal vid I picked up the Spitfire and Tiger Moth as I was getting back into modelling after many years. The Spitfire is a good re-starter practice model for me and I did ok, so will pick it up again as my old skills are rusty and I’ve been improving again with every kit since 🙂
Lucky sods! Lidl Northern Ireland don’t do any model kit offers. There are only a few shops over here in forgotten land that sell a decent selection of modelling kits and two of them are Hobbycraft. Anyway… moan over, keep making the crackin video’s as I’m always learning new stuff👍
I saw this and thought « Great, I’m heading back to Our Wee Country to visit family. I’ll pick something up for the youngsters! ». Then I remembered that Lidl in NI is run as an all Ireland affair so doesn’t have the UK bargains. Ah well 🤷🏻♂️ Where’s left in the province for me to visit? Is the toy shop in Smithfield Market still there ? (Not Joe at the Dungeon 😊). It’s been 5 years since I was home. Ta mate, Ian
One thing to be aware of with the Airfix starter sets is that some of them are simplified versions of the full kit - which makes sense as these are aimed as starter kits for beginners. The Tiger and Sherman, for example, only have the simple one-piece track option whereas the full kit offers that plus a more detailed track and wheel design. More disappointingly is that the sprue that contains the detailed wheels and tracks also includes some detail like pioneer tools, hawsers, stowage and racks - so these are also missing from the starter set. The Spitfire has the complete plastic (I believe) but has a much more limited decal set. As far as I know the Tiger Moth and the Jeep are complete. This doesn't detract from them being starter sets but something you should know if you are an experienced modeller thinking you are picking up a cheap bargain - in those three cases I'd rather pay full price for the full kits. Also the Revell Mayflower is a 1966 model - it is only that boxing that dates from 2020. Still a reasonable kit but don't go expecting modern design and production.
The Sherman and the Tiger are Starter Sets, designed for absolute beginners. That said, I ave seen some very fine work done on the Tiger especially by good model makers - cheap way to practice weathering for example. The Spitfire, Tiger Moth and Willys Jeep are gift sets, so main range kits but with paints, etc.
@@garys_stuffWhich is pretty much as I said - but also that the Spitfire is not the same as the standard kit because it has a simplified cut down decal set - for example it doesn’t include the stencilling. Again this makes sense for a kit aimed at the beginner, but if I were an experienced modeller thinking I was getting a bargain I’d be a little disappointed. And I’ll repeat what I keep saying, undoubtably great for a beginner (though not the Tiger Moth which is a very tricky build even for those who know what they are doing), but just a heads up to more experienced that these maybe not the bargain that they think.
@@georgeclements2742 To be honest, I find it a little strange that the Tiger Moth is included. The range is aimed at beginners, starter sets to give them ‘all’ they need, maybe their first ever model. Anyone receiving the Tiger Moth as their first plastic kit might be put of the hobby for life. It is a lovely little kit, but pretty a pretty tricky build even for experienced builders. Attaching the top wing and struts is very fiddly as is the undercarriage and very fragile when complete. The instructions call for the use of a razor saw and micro drills for some options, not tools you’d expect beginners to have.
If you were really twisting my arm the only kits I would get are the Revell Mayflower and the 3x 1/24 scale cars as I have built or have in the stash everything else . . .
Just bought the Tiger moth today in my local model shop but its the boxing with the Royal Australian Navy and United States Army Air Force on the decal sheet
@@Damien-q8t hey dude, I meant you could get some more tiger moths and have different build options. Other than the one on offer I bet you could trade the decals if you only wanted the box art model, I know I’d trade be lucky 🤜
It would be really interesting to know if there's a difference in the moulding quality between the main range kit and the Lidl kit. The Lidl ones are moulded specifically for the offer.
Don`t waste your money on the HMS Victory, I bought it last year. The fitting was bad and the flash was off the scale. I chucked it away half way through.
This was the first kit they made and was noted for its poor fit. I remember making it about 50 years ago. From the sound of it they are still using the original mould if the flash is so bad!
I think I'll be getting a feŵ of the quick builds for chrimbo prezzies.. RRP has gone up to a ridiculous price. Everything else won't hold their attention.

The Tiger Moth Starter kit does not have the anti-spin part that is in the full kit.

Cheers Gary. I want to get hold of the Tiger Moth as they'd sold out last time around.

I assume these won't be in Lidl locations in Eastern Germany or Poland...bummer.
S hame I think the 1/72 scale models pretty much the the same as earlier this year maybe Revell this Xmas 🎉
The 1/72 offer is exactly the same as in the summer. Wonder if Aldi will do anything different...
@ hope so enjoy your Mondays
is it me or does the driver of the E type Jag look like Sean Connery?
I bought the Airfix Fw.190 which I hadn't realised had been remodelled.
It was awful and I binned it before I'd finished - ! 😮
The Fw.190 hasn't been remodelled since 2013 and it wasn't all that good then!
@garys_stuff I'd bought the original moulding back in the early 60s and enjoyed the build, but the 2013 remould, aarrgghh - ! 🤨
That titanic was my first airfix model

Why does the box on the Revell Mayflower state new, when Scalemates shows 1966.
@harryaudia6 was it released by Revel back then or was it another companies release?
@@Damien-q8t So it's not new then🤔
@harryaudia6 did Revel have it back in 66 or at any other time?......if not they might be saying its " new" if its the 1st time in their line up
OK, the E Type it is then.
