    Just wish someone would do these early British aircraft in 1/32 scale.

    I think its fair to say, That when Airfix ask what would you like to see. The Lysander, in any scale is a very common choice. Its certainly up there on my list, along with a Scout/Wasp.

    I'm not currently building kits but that Lysander is very nice! I love 1/48 and bigger scales. Two of my favourite builds as a teenager were a 1/48 Tornado and P51 Mustang. I always fancied a 1/24 Spitfire but that never happened. Maybe a project for my upcoming retirement..

    Brilliant surprise this, great to see. For me the biggest missed opportunity Airfix have right now that I don’t really see mentioned is a 1/48 Hawker Typhoon. They’ve done it in 1/72, and unlike the other RAF fighter types from WW2 they wouldn’t really have a competitor. Eduard have smashed the Tempest out of the park, Arma have done the same with the Hurricane, and it’s hard to see past Tamiya/Eduard for most marks of Spitfire- but the only competition out there for the Typhoon would be the Hasegawa kit, which is a quarter century old now. Anyway, ramble over- nice update, can’t wait to see your Gulf Sea King!

    I love surprises and I love the new Lysander model. I like the new Sea King variants. Yes, Airfix needs to go on doing these out-of-the-blue releases around Telford time, it adds to the fun and creates more excitement. Now if Airfix has a Lysander landing in Telford as an opening gambit, wouldn’t that be ultra cool? 😊

  • @davispen
    @davispen 2 месяца назад +3

    The main thing that struck me with the Lysander is the flaps and slats option. Most images I have of the Lysander show them down, but the Eduard/Gavia doesn`t have this option. I have two Eduard and an SBS engine, but I still might get the Airfix.

    What about a 1/48 Lockheed Hudson, no company doing it now. Hasn’t been around for a long time. A major WWII player. Been totally forgotten about. A good looking and interesting Bomber and patrol aircraft. Served with RAF, RAAF, RNZAF, USAAF, USN and many others. This aircraft needs to be recognised. Plenty examples on display in the world in museums including a flying one in Australia. Played a roll in most theatre’s of WWII. Don’t forget the Hudson. We need this aircraft.
    Cheers mate 🍻

  • @mh53j

    Already pre ordered the HC-4 here in the US.
    I hope that airflow strake on the port tail boom is optional or can be removed easily; it wasn't present on Falklands era and earlier aircraft; it was present on the HAR 3 "Grey Whales" sent down in the fall of '82. I hope they also include a lifting frame or at least lifting cables that were pretty much standard. I doubt it, but there is hope.
    Now to find crew figures; I have a PJ Productions Lynx set i hope will fit. Black Dog has a set but they cost half as much as the kit itself; with postage to the US.... Not really an option.

    Excellent, considered review of the releases. Airfix will never please everyone all of the time, but having stuck their plastic together for over 50 years I am more than happy with their releases even if some don't 'float my boat'. There was a good interview with Dale Luckhurst yesterday in which he addressed the QC issues, his frustration was obvious and they are making efforts to resolve the problem. In the same vein, Airfix Customer Services have been excellent and in my experience do their utmost to help us consumers. Lysander pre-ordered!

I also like what Airfix does in terms of these announcements as it gets everybody talking about them. I am excited by the Lizzie. I think there are a few with the Eduard rebox in their stash. I pulled mine out and looked at the decal options - what do you know - SEAC markings as well as a spy taxi option. Now if the ladder and long range tank are on the sprues...hmmm

    Evening Jamie. I did make it to Telford and the Airfix Lysander is a thing of beauty. The pilot has to be one of the best representations in this scale. Sadly didn’t take a picture of the whole sprue, so can’t answer the ladder question.

    I built the Eduard-Gavia kit, very nice😊
    Now, I'm a Yank & see this as a desirable addition BUT...

    Best reaction video on the Lysander that I have watched so far, Jamie.
    Canadian Spitfire pilot, Dave Hadfield has three videos of Lysander, '416' that are worth a watch.
    We should not mind the wait for new kit subjects as it gives time for improvements in design/manufacturing and the excitement in the anticipation. The only subject that I find a little odd in waiting this long for is a updated or a new tool;
    1/32 Tamiya F-4E, EJ. Despite having two E nose spare sprue parts to convert J kits, I have made a silicone mold for casting noses, 4 to date. It appears that Tamiya are focused on 1/48.

    Hi Jamie, hope you're well.
    Airfix have had a fantastic week, with the Bristol Superfreighter Vintage classic earlier and now today's news!
    I'm more inclined to but this Sea King version than the first release, and I think this one looks incredible with 4 fantastic versions! The Lysander however is absolutely wonderful news! Looks a beautifully detailed model, which will hopefully go together well (the new tooled stuff generally does) and it opens up more versions as you said. I really hope people will give Airfix bashing a rest for a while now! Getting a bit fed up with all the negativity surrounding them lately. We want this, why don't they do that?! Give me a break!! Get a grip! You're never going to like everything, every manufacturer does. I think Airfix do really well considering the restraints they have to operate under or within, etc. I'm really looking forward to next year's releases and the future too. Look forward to your vid later mate! 👍 Hope the 12 (or is it 14!) conversion is going well.
    Take care 👍👊

    A 1/48 Sea Harrier in Falklands War markings..they have done a lot of Cold War Fleet Air Arm and RAF aircraft so I think arguably the most famous of that periods jets in 1/48 world be a winner. I know they’ve a got a 1/72 kit but 1/48 would be the way to go. And if as you said they are big on pre war RAF aircraft a 1/48 Fairey Battle would be a good choice.

      “Pinger” = Anti Submarine Warfare (ASW) as fitted with a sonar which went “Ping”.
      “Jungly” = Commando which stems from the Malaysian/Borneo days where the helicopters operated in the jungle.
      “Bagger” = Air Early Warning (AEW) where some older ASW helicopters were stripped and fitted with AEW radar that was mounted externally in a bag.
      Hope that helps.
