  • Day #8 of the Nyos 220 internal skimmer running. No problems at all, in fact seems to be a little quieter now. Pound for pound I think it is outperforming the RSK 600 in terms of time to break-in and noise level. I still really like the RSK 600 and would still recommend that skimmer as well. After adding a valve on the drainage hose I'm a happy camper now! :)

Nyos draws a lot more power than the psk1000. Would expect a lot more performance providing there is enough organics for it. There has been some arguments on power draw. The smaller model said 18 watts and a few measured with a load meter 55 watts? Then on this bigger model the same thing came up so not sure if you have that meter maybe see what it says.

no I don't have a meter. It was a good skimmer though!

@@My525XLRedSeaReefer The nyos design or part of it is ingenious. The idea of a circular slow pattern of the air bubbles up the reactor adds so much contact time. It makes for a really efficient design. I own the smaller one below this one. I did make a change to one area of the design but this aspect of it is a fantastic idea and was amazed at how much it can extract per pass with that.

Are you still happy with the Nyos? Looking at the 160. Can you provide a link on the valve? Nice mod.

My525 XL I’m very much leaning towards Nyos. Only other one considering is RO Regal 150int.

You never said why you switched to the new sump. The Red Sea was brand new wasn’t it? Sorry if I missed it.

The new skimmer? No compelling reason. I was eyeing the Nyos for quite some time then Read Sea released their line. Thought I would give it a try first. While I still like the RSK600 I found the overall build quality of the Nyos has a leg up. If I could combine the 2 together it would be my perfect skimmer. RSR put thought in to the collection cup, in my opinion. The drainage outlet is recessed and horizontal which is efficient. Neck cleaner. They also used black tubes instead of clear which is my preference (less chance of growth inside the tube), coupled with the extra long drainage tube and valve at the end. If I could have that with the Nyos' build quality and pump it would be perfect. Sorry for the long winded answer. Hope it helps

Sounds like you should sell it to me at a steep discount. I’m in the Detroit area.
