      He'd teach everything wrong, thermostat opens too late will cause engine to overheat, open loop is when the car runs off a pre-set program in the computer, closed loop is when the car takes all the sensor data and runs it off the inputs, the car is always monitoring the sensors but ignores them till the oxygen sensors becomes active

    Pretty much. In closed loop (engine warm,cruising down the road) the PCM typically monitors the O2 sensors (along with TPS,MAP/MAF,temp,transmission gearing,etc.),to control the fuel,but only after the engine is up to operating temperature. In open loop,like a cold start,the PCM typically relies on preset values for fuel and makes a "best guess" at keeping the engine running until it's warmed up and the (O2) sensors are all ready.
    If your thermostat or temp sensors are bad,obviously that will interfere with that process.
    Again,that's the simple version,and different cars will be different. Some may be more or less complex,and use more or less sensors than others.

    • @AT-wl9yq
      @AT-wl9yq 2 месяца назад

      Overall, you have the right idea but a lot of your details are wrong. Open/closed loop has nothing to do with engine temperature or coolant temperature. Its only about O2 sensor and cat temperature. There's absolutely no guesswork involved. If you read my other post, I explain it, and I show you prove what I'm saying so you don't have to take anyone's word, including mine. Yes, my words are a bit harsh, but there's too many Scotty Kilmers on the internet giving bad advice.

They insisted it couldn't be that as it was the first thing they checked. I doubt that as I had put a piece of tape over the fuse box cover before it took it on. The tape is still in place. Open and closed loop have nothing to do with the thermostat or engine temperature. And you certainly can't change it with tuning. If you have a racecar, it shouldn't be an option unless you are running factory electronics. Before you tell me I don't know what I'm talking about, read my post from yesterday. Show me a reference from a credible source, and I'll give you an apology. You don't know enough about engine diagnostics to have a conversation with me. Your comments are either fabricated or you are getting your information from people that know less than you.
      If you need some help, read my other post in this discussion. You can use that for a real reference on what open and closed loop is. I bet you'll just make up more stuff in an attempt to look like you're not as dumb as you appear to be. Good luck with that.
