Keitel and Dennis Hopper. Two if my favorite actors never got the cred they deserved. Pacino is just okay, which bugs me. DeNiro is great 70s -90s, but has done some crap films in the last 20 years. Keitel doesn't seem care about Hollywood that much, so it makes sense why he's underrated and not as well known. Keitel rules..
*****: I forgot who won the 93 Oscar (they are always one year behind the film release) and it was Al Pacino for Scent Of A Woman. Al is in a league of his own along with Harvey.
What a character study that was by director Abel Ferrera and played perfectly by Keitel. Even Siskel & Ebert (notoriously prude w their taste) gave the movie 2 THUMBS UP. And it was all cause of the Harvey Keitel performance.
Bad Lieutenant is his finest performance. Few actors ever braver than he was there. The Piano is another great one. Also, less known, perhaps, but he gave a knockout performance in a 1978 film called, Fingers, as well. Mean Streets was his breakout. I felt he should also have gotten a supporting actor Oscar for Smoke. He has a long take monologue, done in one shot, at the end of that that is fantastic....
Harvey Keitel is one of my favorite actors he deserves more appreciation! His performance in The Piano is phenomenal and so are his performances in Bad Lieutenant and Reservoir Dogs incredible actor and he's also versatile! :) Please do this list for the late Tom Sizemore as well as a Top 10 Best Tom Sizemore movies.
I love him soooo much! Another actor that doesn't get a chance for the critics. I kind of feel bad for him! Some of those films that he's done are actually really good like Free Willy, Reservoir Dogs, Strength and Honour, Vice ect.
Always after reading those comments I get a bit mad and I just have to say it now: You are doing a great job, WatchMojo.com. I don't watch all the Top 10s or other clips, but those I do watch are nicely done. So: Thank you! There, done.
I was hoping to see Charlie in mean streets as number 1. I much prefer the characters Scorsese creates then the characters Tarantino does, I find them more believable
Its a crime that for close to a decade (most of the 80s) Keitel barely worked. He seemed to be out of Hollywood until that captivating performance as Mr White in Dogs. Then all of a sudden for the rest of the 90s he was everywhere. A screen legend.

HIS 2 BEST PERFORMANCES ARE PART OF TARANTINO AND SCORSESE'S MOVIES, THIS IS THE MOST UNDERRATED ACOTR EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
keitel is so underrated. he's up there as one of my favorite actors, along with de niro, philip seymour hoffman and kevin spacey (he's a terrific actor, let's leave it at that). bad lieutenant was his magnum opus. what a fucking film.
Harvey Keitel is full of great performances. Right . He is underrated actor. Best performances: Bad lieutenant, City of Industry, Imaginary Crimes, The duellists and so on
HARVEY WAS AT HIS BEST AS JIMMY FINGERS. HE WAS A LOAN SHARK WHO WANTED TO BE A CONCERT PIANIST. INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCE BY HARVEY. GREAT FIGHT AT THE END, BLOODY, AND REALISTIC!
In Reservoir Dogs he is of course brilliant, but for me Taxi Driver or Bad Lieutenant is his best performance. Also I think that Mean Streets should be a bit higher, even though his performances are all so good.
You could do a series of videos that are "Top Ten Foods/Dishes" from various parts of the world. I'd particularly like to see one on Scandinavian food. I spent last summer in Sweden and one of the many things I loved about it was the food. There's so much more to it than just the Swedish meatballs you can get at the local IKEA (not that those aren't delicious, too).
Didn't mention the duelist. That movie was something else, all the scenes were intense because there was little music. It made me think what if I picked up a rapier and it was me or him. They really captured that
Top 10 daniel day lewis, al Pacino and Robert de Niro performances. I know you've done best robert de Niro moments, but PLEASE at least do 1 of the 3 requests in this. It would mean SO MUCH!!
Top 10 Funniest scenes/lines in non-comedy films. i.e. Malcolm McDowell interpreting the cards at the end of A Clockwork Orange; 'I shot Marvin..,' from Pulp Fiction; pretty much any Mark Wahlberg line in The Departed.
You lost me at Pulp Fiction. Srsly, any movie from Tarantino makes *waaaaay* too many Watchmojo lists. The more lists it makes, the more it makes me believe they only put the movie on said list because it's Dan's favorite movie :P
Please can you make up a video of the Top 10 Hugh Laurie Moments or Performances if possible - I would really love that as he is one of my favourite actors ever
The most underrated actor of all time!
If it wasn't De Niro Harvey might have been Scorsese's muse
Keitel and Dennis Hopper. Two if my favorite actors never got the cred they deserved. Pacino is just okay, which bugs me. DeNiro is great 70s -90s, but has done some crap films in the last 20 years. I would say he's DEFINITELY underrated, he's phenomenal... but not the MOST underrated.
True
If he were the MOST underrated, he wouldn’t have this video.
Keitel should have won an Academy Award for his work in Bad Lieutenant.
*****: Correct but he should have won for Bad Lieutenant. It is his best work.
*****: I forgot who won the 93 Oscar (they are always one year behind the film release) and it was Al Pacino for Scent Of A Woman. Al is in a league of his own along with Harvey.
i'm so glad i heard that
What a character study that was by director Abel Ferrera and played perfectly by Keitel. Even Siskel & Ebert (notoriously prude w their taste) gave the movie 2 THUMBS UP. And it was all cause of the Harvey Keitel performance.
I agree
Harvey is such an underappreciated actor
Bad Lieutenant absolutely should've been number 1. It's an incredible movie and a perfect performance.
Absolutely vicious in it, no question you are correct. His best
Underrated actor
Every time he laughs, an angel gets its wings.
we need a Top 10 for Steve Buscemi performances! The man is in everything and always steals the scene
No ones gonna debate you
No ones gonna sit here and debate
Keitel and De Niro were fantastic in both Mean Streets and Taxi Driver.
Charlie in Mean Streets is my favorite Harvey Keitel performance
I agree with you on that.
mean streets is what got me into the stones
Agreed 100%
Clockers for me
Bad Lieutenant is his finest performance.
Only 60,000 views!!?? There's something wrong with that! This man is such a good actor and deserves more than that.
Harvey Keitel is one of my favorite actors he deserves more appreciation! His performance in The Piano is phenomenal and so are his performances in Bad Lieutenant and Reservoir Dogs incredible actor and he's also versatile! :)
Please do this list for the late Tom Sizemore as well as a Top 10 Best Tom Sizemore movies.
Can I be your 2nd favorite?
Top 10 Michael Madsen Performances
I love him soooo much! Another actor that doesn't get a chance for the critics. I kind of feel bad for him! Some of those films that he's done are actually really good like Free Willy, Reservoir Dogs, Strength and Honour, Vice ect.
The first time I saw Michael Madsen was in Wargames in 1983, you could tell he was going to do well.
Keitel steals any scene or movie he is in. A master craftsman of acting.
One of Hollywood's greatest underrated actors of all time.
Always after reading those comments I get a bit mad and I just have to say it now: You are doing a great job, WatchMojo.com. I don't watch all the Top 10s or other clips, but those I do watch are nicely done. So: Thank you! There, done.
The Duellists didn't even make it to the Honorable Mentions ? Really ???
He's been in so many fantastic films! Pulp fiction, bad lieutenant, taxi driver, mean streets, reservoir dogs, and the list goes on.
Bad Lieutenant is my favorite performance of his. Love that film.
I was hoping to see Charlie in mean streets as number 1. I much prefer the characters Scorsese creates then the characters Tarantino does, I find them more believable
naah tarantino's natural dialogues and scenes are better.
Harvey is an amazing versatile actor. Plus, he is absolutely adorable, I just want to hug him.
My all time favorite actor Harvey Keitel
Harvey Keitel... amazing actor!
no.1 Bad Lieutenant for me
"Smoke" is definately on top!
I love his performance in Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. I need to watch Mean Streets.
Reservoir Dogs is one of my all time favourite movies
Very very under rated . Great actor
Him in Taxi Driver was top notch. That first scene where he's got the beater on and the black hat, such a great scene
Its a crime that for close to a decade (most of the 80s) Keitel barely worked. He seemed to be out of Hollywood until that captivating performance as Mr White in Dogs. Then all of a sudden for the rest of the 90s he was everywhere. A screen legend.
I also liked him in Blue Collar and Clockers
His best performance is in "Ulysse's Gaze". A greek film that all of you probably don't know.
Tarkovsky Tarr this is one of my favorite movies, masterpiece!
Increible que nunca haya recibido un premio!!

Keitel with Scorsese and Tarantino so good
Good that Ray Donlan from Copland was at least mentioned
His performance in Bad Liautenant is one of my favorites! Absolutely brilliant.
He's so underrated it physically pains me.
Forever a fan of this FANTASTIC actor. 👏👏
keitel is so underrated. he's up there as one of my favorite actors, along with de niro, philip seymour hoffman and kevin spacey (he's a terrific actor, let's leave it at that). bad lieutenant was his magnum opus. what a fucking film.
It’s shocking that he hasn’t won an Oscar
love this actor one of my favorites
Cop Land is a great movie.
So far my Favorite actor.
His turn in ''The Grand Budapest Hotel'' deserved an honourable mention!
Too recent. Plus the film hasn't been released on DVD yet.
Yes it has :/ and that's no excuse!
His role was pretty small there. Ralph Fiennes is the bona fide star of that movie.
+Patrick Bateman And his performance and lines in *Head Above Water* are just pure class.
Keitel should’ve won an Oscar for Bad Lieutenant
The Duellist is another Keitel film I'd add to the list
Augie Wren should've made it isntead of Dusk Till Dawn and Charlie should've been #2
Great actor! Underrated..
The Diellists was a underrated movie
His performance in Bad Lieutenant is one of the greatest performances EVER. Should have been #1.
Watchmojo! despite of any agreements or disagreements about your list. I truly thank about this list. my #1 favourite actor. thank you guys
Loved the movie "The Bad Lieutenant "
Who's that knocking at my door!!
+Juno Rose And Holy Smoke!
Somebody's ringin a bell?
Great actor!!!!!
One of the all-time greats.
Honorable mention: Last temptation of Christ
He is one of the best.
He should be nominated more than one academy award
My personal favorite is him dusk till till Dawn....I swear I did not know that was him till like years later.....
Great actor and great list. Would have moved Smoke from honorable mention to number1. But all great movies.
Keitel was only called “Uncle Ray” by Superboy.
Mean Streets is the role I love him for the most, hell always be "Chawlie" as Johnny Boy would call him.
Jacob Fuller in From Dusk til Dawn. Brilliant!
Harvey Keitel is full of great performances. Right . He is underrated actor. Best performances: Bad lieutenant, City of Industry, Imaginary Crimes, The duellists and so on
I liked him playing Houdini in Fairy Tale
I completely agree with #1, it's amazing
Bad Lieutenant was his Magnum Opus - he is a magnificent actor but he shined in this particular film like no other.
#4. WOLF!!
should have been a 2.
Great video. I recognized him from somewhere. The wolf man in pulp fiction. He is a "problem solver"
he was great in the Duelists with Keith Carradine
HARVEY WAS AT HIS BEST AS JIMMY FINGERS. HE WAS A LOAN SHARK WHO WANTED TO BE A CONCERT PIANIST. INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCE BY HARVEY. GREAT FIGHT AT THE END, BLOODY, AND REALISTIC!
He’s the most badass person I ever met
8:46 I was like-that BETTER be there!
Harvey Kietel is the best actor of all time
His performances in Blue Collar and Fingers deserve honorable mentions.
In Reservoir Dogs he is of course brilliant, but for me Taxi Driver or Bad Lieutenant is his best performance. Also I think that Mean Streets should be a bit higher, even though his performances are all so good.
He is great as Judas! His Scottish accent is off in the Piano but he's still very good. Did you know he was once a Marine in real life.
How did Keitel's 'Feraud' from The Duellists not make the list? Is the movie that obscure? He's brilliant, as is the movie.
You could do a series of videos that are "Top Ten Foods/Dishes" from various parts of the world. I'd particularly like to see one on Scandinavian food. I spent last summer in Sweden and one of the many things I loved about it was the food. There's so much more to it than just the Swedish meatballs you can get at the local IKEA (not that those aren't delicious, too).
what about U571?
Didn't mention the duelist. That movie was something else, all the scenes were intense because there was little music. It made me think what if I picked up a rapier and it was me or him. They really captured that
Love your top tens
"YOU ARE HURT! YOU ARE HURT REAL FUCKING BAD! BUT YOU AINT DYING!"
I need a second part.
he is, true acting gold
I truly miss his short role as Al, the longtime agent of Robin Wright in The Congress (2013)..real deep!
The Duellists, Ulysses´s Gaze, Fingers....etc, etc
The best Natural Method Actor together with Hopper.

I like it
You lost me at Pulp Fiction. Srsly, any movie from Tarantino makes *waaaaay* too many Watchmojo lists. The more lists it makes, the more it makes me believe they only put the movie on said list because it's Dan's favorite movie :P
"Oh man, I shot Marvin in the face." That's a classic!
