The 7-speed manual in the Porsche 911 has a lockout so you can only shift into 7th from 6th gear. Chevrolet or Tremec should add that to this transmission.
Maybe, but I've driven this car with the 7-speed many times, and you have to put quite a bit of force into getting it into 7th gear, it's not something you can do by accident. It's like putting a car into reverse, there's much more resistance to get it into the gate. No matter how quickly I shift from 4th yo 5th, I've never accidentally gotten 7th.
+Grace JD are you kidding the nsx was 68k when it fist came out and in the last year's was over 80k the nsx is a cool car but with little power and couldn't complete with anything in its price range honda didn't do anything to better the car and just priced it out of existence just like most Japanese sports cars of that Era that being said the nsx is still awesome besides the fd rx7 it's was the coolest car to come out of Japan
+Scott Babcock 0 to 60 NSX did around 5 seconds and that's not slow by any means. Anything more than 300hp is a waste in my opinion. NSX was an still is an engineering marvel and a Great car to drive. Can't say that about the vette.
+knowxvill Base GTR price? $101,000 Base 911 price? $90,000 GT500? Mustang with too much power for the chassis doesn't count. Base price on a Corvette C7? $55,000 Which by the way is cheaper than the base price of the 2014 GT500 by $3,000. The Nismo GTR adds $50,000. That base 911 doesn't count, because the average 911 sold is a Carrera S optioned up past $150,000. Don't know what basis you are putting the 'pretty close' on, but all 3 of those cars are more expensive base price, the GTR and 911 can be optioned up WAY beyond what you can option even a C7 Z06 up to, and the GT500 is an engine without anything else for more money.
+knowxvill In a couple of years you will be able to get a used Corvette for $20,000. At $30,000 you will have a huge selection to choose from. Realistically, most new cars can be had for 1/2 the price four to five years later so the depreciation on a Corvette isn't totally out of line but yea, losing $30,000 in value hurts. It is better than losing $60,000+ on an optioned out 911 though. There are other cars the may depreciate less % wise but it's actually more money out of pocket. A $150,000 911 may only depreciate 35% but that 35% is nearly the entire cost of a new Corvette. A $150,000 Porsche depreciates 33% & you are out 50K A $100,000 GTR depreciates by 40% & you are out 40K. A $60,000 Corvette depreciates 50% & you are out 30K.
To people saying this looks like the F12... Well, on the Laguna Seca track, it has literally the exact same time. So what's wrong with a car that looks as good as a Ferrari (I know, I know... but the back !!!), is affordable and cheaper to repair? People wanna dumb this car down as if to say "It's good for it's price". No, it's fucking amazing for any car. Period. Oh, and to say "It's good for its price". Well what does that make the F12? Does that make the F12 HORRIBLE for it's price, the C7 out of this world for it's price, or both?
Haha this is great, I showed my non car person mom several pictures of the Corvette and the F12 from various angles (with logos covered, of course) and she answered wrong for all of them, i was showing her that the car could be mistaken for something else by non car people, if the logos were removed.
GOONONFIRE, But what design came out first? The corvette has followed closely with its design for decades way before the F12, The F12 came out in 2015. If anything, F12 would be confused with a corvette not the other way around. Come on guys.
Remember when people said the C7 looked nothing like a Corvette...despite literally only the tail-lights being a major departure (Seriously look at a C6 and C7 side profile shot...they basically have the same lines) Yeah that was cute. Here we are almost 7 years later with the dawn of C8. NOW THAT, was a major departure. I can't believe people cried like little babies over freaking tail-lights 7 years ago...
Just bought a 2017 Corvette Z06 with Z07 package in Torch Red. Um, my Gen V Viper GTS just took second place........ I still love the Viper, but I gotta say, the Z06 is a better car in almost every respect. Nice job GM..........I'm impressed.........very impressed.
This car is brilliant ! And the reason I sold my Porsche 911S. Anyone who bashes this cars performance I encourage you to reserve judgement until you have driven one. This dosen't mean I don't like European exotics anymore , I am a car enthusiast , I enjoy a nice selection and the fact that we have competition. Competition is a good thing , it makes us strive to do better. And corvette is finally where is should be. At the top with the rest. Cheers
Do you miss the Porsche? I just rented a 911 and it was a best car I'd ever driven. Maybe I should rent a C7 now but I have a feeling it will be good/fun but slightly less rewarding to drive. I'd Imagine the C7is going to be more practical though for most people.
@Angela Gonzalez who gives a fuck how "rare" a car is lmao. Just drive what you enjoy don't worry about what other people think. And btw I see just as many Porsches on the street. Unless we're talking about 911 turbos or gt3's I see regular Porsches every day
As the proud owner of a 2014 Z51 that I was lucky enough to preorder, I can say this car is godly for the price. A year later and nearly 20k miles of driving I have not a single complaint about it except that I want to drive it more. I've seen returns as good as 38.4mpg on a cross country trip and zero mechanical issues thus far. It is an absolute head tuner and real performance car. To the people complaining and the people complaining about the complainers, just remember. Haters gonna hate and ainters gonna aint.
I plan on getting a Z06 in future, as for your comment, I saw a C7 2 days ago for the very first time(inexplicably at a Chrysler dealer, also odd because I live in KY, so i would expect to have seen at least 1 C7 by now), and it was stunning in person, great blue paint job, nice looking interior, and super low to the ground. Didn't get a chance to sit in it or start it up, however :(. It still looked brand new on the interior, despite 25K miles.
I haven't been a fan of Matt. I have always thought he came off as a know it all and a little stubborn. I love this review and his excitement for this amazing car has turned me around. he talked nonstop for 10 minutes about the car and not a single "um, aah, like, well um" just facts and numbers off the top of his head. well done.
I am a huge vette fan. I grew up poor, never owned a car at all until I saved all my money during my 14 months in Vietnam in 66 and 67. Survived combat and had 1900 in the bank. At 20, bought my first car, 62 vette. I am now 72 years old and have had 9 vettes in my life. I now have a 2018 Stingray, gorgeous yellow bl ack trim ragtop. Wonderful car. I have 9,500 miles. Never had any trouble at all, may be my last obe. Getting old.
I am a first time corvette owner 2018 c7 Z07, I can’t say enough good things about the car, absolutely beautiful inside out, confidently can take on any super car, My respects to GM engineers
Always liked the c5/6 vettes enough...z06/zr1 especially...but never wanted a vette this bad... coming from someone into Mercedes and owned porsches and gtrs
Finally, someone who knows cars and Corvettes in particular. I just bought a 2016 Z51 in the same Laguna Blue. Excellent machine. Also, can't beat the price.
@@pslim68, just one stupid problem, my gas cap wouldn't open as a gas station. It seems to be a "known" issue so I watched a video and basically pulled off the part from under the wheel well, I 'll have someone fix that later. Great Car!
Some may think I sound dumb saying this but I'm from the UK and when I have enough cash and a licence I am coming to the states to buy this car and import it back to the UK! I think this car is absolutely amazing!
Im a ford guy... But this is just an amazing car guys. It handles amazing, has great power, brakes incredibly good, gets great fuel mileage, has an amazing interior and only cost $60k... It just cannot possibly be better than this car. Its an awsome all around sports car for a great price. I hate people always saying Italian cars that are worth millions of bills are better and blah blah blah... Nobody can afford those cars anyways. Fuck them. This car is for the average Joe. Besides, just look at the numbers and the price. Corvette always offered better performence at a lower price. Good job chevy. Going in the right direction. Besides to all haters.... Just wait t'il the Z06 and ZR1 comes out :P Going to be an exotic ass kicking.....
never been a fan of american cars..but if I am the market for a sportscar for around 50-80ish thousand, the stingray would probably be first on the list. Legendary engine, reliability, improved refinement, fuel economy and it is just so pretty to look at.
+Jason M It looks smaller than the new Mustang as well but what's really impressive is the low and small profile. I saw one on the highway recently and mistook it for a supercar until I got close to it. Wow, this thing is a shock to the senses.
Such a great video. My favorite C7 video. I just got one and am going to give it the full Stereo Integrity treatment in a few months. Finally some proper great sound in one of these.
Is there a reason people get excited about smoking tires. I just see money going up in flames. P.S. LOVE this car. Especially how the interior is laid out.
So, still. That's $1k (depending on the tires) and there are issues with ordering only two tires from places like Tirerack. My point is still it just seems like a waste of money. I understand that it can be dramatic for film/tv but just burning out? It makes absolutely no sense to me.
thelonelydirector I agree with you. Forget the tire money, I wouldn't do it because it throws hot molten tire bits back up on the finish of your expensive car!
I think the biggest endorsement for the new C7 is the absolute terror it has evoked in the more mindless of the Euro fanboys. They try to mask their fear with disdain. It isn't working.
If the choice is between a C7 and putting a turbo in a Z, go C7 all day. You''d end up with a much better overall car. The engine and chassis work well together right out of the box.
It is 3,298 according to general motors's press materials from the launch. It's very possible that the difference is a "dry" curb weight versus "wet" with a full tank and full fluids versus dry. I wouldn't be surprised if that car carries 150 lbs of fluids.
Who invited euro fan boys in the Chevrolet Corvette C7 Stingray comments. Why can't you people give up talking about what you think the Corvette is capable of and accept its Newfound abilities. For all haters stfu. I'm always going to support American made cars regardless of capability. Stupid imports like Kia honda Mercedes Benz BMW especially have no importance in my life. Those cars are 1 rediculously expensive to purchase and maintain and 2 ugly in my opinion and don't have a beautiful engine sound. The corvette has been around since the early 50s its iconic and Will always be better than European cars period. People who say American cars are unreliable are stupid. If you Europeans knew how to maintain the cars they could last a long time.
I was kind of losing my interest in GM cars, but this car totally restored my faith that they can make a positive contribution to the automotive world. Good review - fun to watch.
i cant wait to see what the Z06 will bring ???if its thats good then more brakes more hp and more handling maybe just maybe this will show up the euro cars :) i just want jeremy clarkson to say he loves it then i can die happy
Restomod. C7 mechanics, C3 body. Preferably a tasteful restomod that results in a nice sleeper. I'd of course say a 69-71 C3 as a first choice, but even the last year C3, a 1982, would be awesome. An '82 is at gorgeous level of voluptuous, really representing the peak of what the C3 style was trying to convey, which seemed to be some kind of Hugh Hefner commissioned Marilyn Monroe painting by Gil Elvgren as interpreted through a tacky "sports" car that appealed to the aesthetics of that era. But we have technology to rebuild Steve Austin, and it won't cost $29 million, adjusted for inflation. :)
Again, awesome presentation for an awesome Super Car! I have always love Corvettes, specially 1969 C3's. This C7 one, definitively has come a long way since.
When you're doing voiceovers, your voice is overloading the mic, especially when voicing plosives. Might need to back the mic away or get a pop filter. Otherwise, nice review of the C7. When are you trading your Vette in? :D
Seems like you had such fun, glad to see the new Corvette wears some nice features plus amazing speed. My gripe with them was always the rear suspension but looking at this one underneath, it's just awesome, love your videos and how much you enjoy every car, keep them coming, we'll keep watching! :) (From an Italian car restorer now working in a Corvette restoration shop)
Is it a rule if you are European or love other exotics that you must have an irrational hate of Corvettes? Would I buy one if I had 60k? No, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate that it is a damn good car doing things as well or better than cars priced tens of thousands of dollars more than it. Maybe the real question people should be asking is, "why did my car manufacturer charge me 100k, when GM does it just as well for 60?". And honestly if you have never driven one, how are you giving any opinion on its performance of build quality? Just going off of reviews of corvettes of the past has no correlation to this new Vette.
The reason why Europeans used to hate Corvettes is because, although they can match European sports cars in terms of performance, they're just not as refined. They're dreadful to be used as daily drivers. This C7 though, is a game changer. Every European car magazine loves the new Vette, and has pitted it against many other European sports cars. Simply put, they were completely surprised at how USA could pull off such a car with European levels of refinement. GM and Chevrolet have really outdone themselves, and have set a standard for future US cars.
Michael Ghiglieri these people are just made because they know that if you want crazy power you need a big heavy motor, and they would rather have handling. But they start crying when they see one of those big heavy American built muscle cars screaming past them in a straight line because they cant hear that dam techno music over those sound of an American v8.
Engine built in Tonawanda NY, USA. Not Korea, China, Japan, Germany or Mexico. Yes, we can make stuff here and you can buy it. You don't have to impress your friends with foreign junk.
Just because your country built a really good car for a change, doesn't mean other countrie's cars are junk. That being said, the new Vette has a good shot at being the best sports car this decade.
At just shy of 55,000 USD with the 1LT Z51 Pkg, it is quite affordable for the slightly wealthier than average person. In addition, I don't expect this car's value to hold too well, despite it being such a good car, so in a year or two, this car will drop to the 40,000 USD range, which makes it affordable to even more people. The cost of ownership of Corvettes are also significantly lower than its German counterparts, which adds to the affordability.
ewt415 "this car will drop to the 40,000 USD range" Heavily used, yea. For around 40k, why even buy a Camaro? This car, new, will always be 50k+ USD. Chevy wants to keep a clear line drawn in the sand between the Camaro and the Vet. The vet will always be noticeably more expensive, be slightly faster in a straight line, but be more of a track car than a pony car (like the Camaro).
Great review Matt. I truly enjoy your work in these car reviews. It is rare to see someone who reviews a car without sounding like they are reading off a "spec sheet." Thanks for just being a guy who loves cars, and enjoys/loves what he does.
Why is the 7 speed manual controversial?? That's the one I was planning on getting and flappy paddle for my daily driver/winter car. My only car right now is a stage 2 protuned '13 WRX STI and I really want to keep a manual car. Even if slower, the driving experience is so much better.
No issues, I have no problem getting form 4th to 5th quickly, I rarely use 6th at all. If on the highway I just run 4th to 7th as 4th can take you well over any posted speed limit in the US in a hurry.
Have a supercharged/built C5Z right now...absolutely can't wait to go C7 Z51 next. C7 Z06 unfortunately went a direction I was hoping it wouldn't, but I plan on hitting the Z06 parts bin on a Z51 build, then doing some one off stuff. Can't wait! Z51 is the car to buy in C7, as much as I hate to say that. It hit the mark dead balls...
ive seen, been in, ridden in the C7, this car has a passion, it goes like hell, and it has a soul, its like an italian car on looks and performance. the corvette is truly now a luxurious super car.
Whoa! whoa! Easy there champ! I love the C7 too, but calling it a "super car" is really pushin it. That term is reserved for only a handful of high performance exotics (Ferrari 458 Italia, McLaren MP4 12C, Lamborghini Aventador, Porsche 918, etc...)
I have to disagree with you Matt about the Corvette being compromise and not being on pace with the euro's, Corvette is the winning-est car in the ALMS GT category racing against Porsche, Ferrari, and other European makes.
I know European cars are fast but they didn't have the muscle car quality at all. Muscle cars are powerful enough to take both European and possibly supercars. That's just an opinion ok
You don't buy a corvette for it's interior... it's built to go fast for a reasonable price considering what you get. Buy a damn bmw if you want a nice interior. Can't buy a bmw for the same money that will be as fast. facts are facts.
Connor Waits I disagree about the interior. The C7's interior is fantastic, IMO quite a bit better than current BMW interiors. I don't think it's necessary to make excuses for the Corvette any more.
I agree with you 100%. It just bothers me when people criticize a car for everything it's NOT. Like you buy a honda civic for reliability and fuel economy. No need rag on it's performance or aesthetics. Just a thought lol
This makes me curious. I love US cars, but they have their drawbacks. It seems that the US carmakers are on the right track, finally. So, in time I like to know if it is reliable. The only disadvantage I see here is my personal taste for engine sounds. I don't like the heavy duty sound of the engine. I like a higher pitch. But hey, I am a European...
American v8s use large bores with large strokes. Huge amounts of RPM isn't needed to make horsepower. Hence the deep sound Europeans use small displacement engines, small strokes and small bores. Combined with 10 or 12 cylinders they have to REVVE much higher to make up for the torque they don't make. More RPM=high pitched
Vernon Price Woah man, relax, I haven't insulted your family have I? All I am saying is imagine seeing Gallardos everywhere. Their charm would be immediately diluted. It would still be a great piece of engineering but the actual charm of the car, to you, would be gone since you see it everywhere. It's great that it's cheap enough for most people to buy I just think I'd go for a Zr1 or the fantastic Z/28. My 2 cents.
FrenchFruits No, I still don't understand how seeing C7s everywhere is a bad thing. Maybe that's because I don't buy cars because of how often I see other people driving them, because that would be so fucking stupid I don't even know where to start. I buy cars on the merit of the cars. Not the number of other people driving them.
Vernon Price You still aren't understanding. I am saying that the engineering is still there. I know I see amazingly complex and fast cars every time I see one of them on the road. Same thing goes for the new Tesla Model S; they are as abundant in my area as priuses. To me, seeing a car everywhere really lowers its charm form me as it's not its individual jewel (sort of like diamonds). That's all. Don't strain yourself by trying to argue back. It's a matter of opinion, buy your C7 and be done with it man.
FrenchFruits Yes I understand exactly what you're saying, and I don't agree with it. If the number of people who drive the car "lowers its charm" for you, then you're not an actual car or driving enthusiast. An actual car enthusiast doesn't give a single shit about how many OTHER people are driving any given car. The enjoyment comes from YOU driving the car. If you can't be happy driving a great car for the single solitary reason that you think too many other people are driving them, that's just sad.
No doubting that this is a good car. But to me it still signifies a bit of a compromise. It tries to compete with the F12berlinetta at a bargain price, and sorry but if it was me I'd keep thinking of the Ferrari and that spoils the Corvette a bit because I know it isn't quite up with the car it rivals. Personally I'd rather have Europe's own everyday sportscar, the Porsche 991 Carrera 4S. Sure it's not as fast as the Corvette but it makes much more sense on the roads I usually drive.
krocialblack What?! Vette fans usually bring up practicality and affordability. I just prefer a car that's more practical and makes more sense on the twisting country roads and in the claustrophobic towns of europe. I wouldn't want to wrestle a HUGE Vette around in my home-town that's for sure.
lotsanuts nuts That's why I'd want the Porsche. I know I get the full package for the money I pay (practical, fun handling, performance, luxury). The Corvette has always been a compromise solution for me. It tries to compete over it's class and suffers for it.
lotsanuts nuts 60k? Sounds great. Now double the price because it's an import, now triple the price (taxes, we pay 240% of the cars price on top of the price), now jack up the price even more because the engine is a colossal 6.2 liter V8. After all this the Porsche 991 Carrera 4S is the better deal (at least long term, because of green tax which is calculated on the engines size). And even then I'm not pickish. I'll be glad with the 996 Carrera 2.
I said the same thing when it first came out.... they changed headlights on the C6 and now tailights on the C7.... The C5 is the last real Corvette as far as tradition goes.
at last the Yanks are getting their shit together building sports cars they always had the power just dont go round a corner lol as there handling was shit compared to the Europeans, i mean the last mustang had a live rear axle just to save 5 grand on the cost i see they have now rectified that with the new one, but it has taken the bosses of the US motor trade too long to figure out it aint all about cost, its about the cars overall abilities as the Eropeans and Japanese took ever bigger chunks out of the pie why because of quality concerns with Yanky models, the new corvette and mustang looks like they are at last getting the message and maybe good enough to export once again on quality
Jason Nyers You can't get what the corvette gives for the price..... Its easy for Porsche to be the best when you pay more than double. Imagine if Corvette was 150,000 dollar car with the C7...... For a mere $85,000 you can get the new Z06 which will destroy many cars costing well over $150,000 You can spend $55,000 on a base C7 and still have a world class car.
You state; "they always had the power just dont go round a corner lol as there handling was shit compared to the Europeans" Really? What were the head to head lap times of the C6 Z06 vs. European cars? (Not the ZR1, just the N/A C6 Z06.) The Mustang was never intended to put in super fast lap times. It was built for the US market, with a lot of space and a lot of wide open roads. That said, look at the lap times the 4000 lb Camaro ZL1 is posting. "Don't go round a corner." Get a clue, there's more to cars than what Clarkson tells you.
Stevil Reagan You have a picture of Ronald Reagan and an American flag as your portrait and you follow Fox News. So highly doubt anyone will respect opinion when talking about European cars compared to American cars.
Love the review Matt. You're obviously having a good time. The C7 looks to be such a great car that suddenly my Porsche-Fever seems to have gone away. I need a Corvette Stingray with the Z51 option package.
The last time I bought a "all new Corvette", was in 1963 this one would be a fun car to drive. I think 'ol Zora would be pleased with the performance of this one.
Thanks for this. Loved the review. The Smoking Tire is the first thing I look for on RUclips whenever I want to see a review of a car. Matt's reviews aren't always the most technically detailed (not a bad thing) but if you want to know what a car is really like he is on par with the Evo and Top Gear reviews.
Loved when he saw the f40 and gave the guy thumbs up. I'm not an american car guy but I do happen to like the new vette. Nice to see some American car companies really stepping up their game for once. Great car. The tire warmth feature really impressed me.
Nice smoking the tires! I've had many many exotic European and imports cars since I was seventeen. The new corvette is really a game changer. The new Z06 is on my next car list. Good job GM.
Just watched a video from 4 years ago. My how far you have come Matt and you are a little heavier since then lol. Congrats on having done so well. Oh yea, the C7 is nice too lol. Please do an SRT Viper video ;D
hello mat your right about 80 corvettes but also a great platform for guys as myself to joint the club and havr a platform to restomod and value wise on a budget get a pretty fast car and do mods as much as possible still on a budget and driver wise have a good classic.now, looking at new corvettes that you have and the newer ones im very educated on which one i want when i get ready to buy.the c 7 will be the one.the review was very good.also i like your car.its a beast in its own right.there is nothing wrong with upgrades and modifying any corvette as long as its a good upgrade.thanks for the great work you do on the smoking tire i enjoy looking at the reviews time after time.
TheSmokingTire you guys should do a video of your personal garages. what cars you own and their pros and cons. I think this would be interesting especially for Matt but the other guys on the team seem like they'd have some cool cars too. Great show guys!
Matt, what do you think about the front-end design of the car? I generally agree with the body from most angles (including the rear) but from dead-on the front grill looks soft, less aggressive than the rest of the car. That silver bar across it breaks up the black background, and while it is a sizable grille, doesn't seem to extend far enough to the sides, which makes the fascia surround the grille in a curved, less angled way. I hope the z06 and zr1 have more aggressive touches. Thoughts?
I get 28.8 mpg in my 991 911 S while driving it relatively fast. Coming from a CTS-V coupe which got 9 mpg more often than I'd like to admit, the 911 is a breath of fresh air.
You can intake air and exhaust gases more efficiently by having more valves per cylinder, but from what I understand you can only have 2 valves per cylinder using a pushrod, unlike dual over head cams where you can have 5 if you want "3 intake 2 exhaust". I could be wrong but that's what I understand.
I'm not really sure but I think they used to have that in the C5
There is not a European or Japanese maker that could produce a car like this for less than $100K. The best car GM has ever made.
C7 is a great car. Gm did a great job with this one however the Honda NSX was the best car ever built for the price.
A $150,000 Porsche depreciates 33% & you are out 50K
A $100,000 GTR depreciates by 40% & you are out 40K.
Remember when people said the C7 looked nothing like a Corvette...despite literally only the tail-lights being a major departure (Seriously look at a C6 and C7 side profile shot...they basically have the same lines)
Yeah that was cute. Here we are almost 7 years later with the dawn of C8. NOW THAT, was a major departure. I can't believe people cried like little babies over freaking tail-lights 7 years ago...
oh shit it's the weebvette

Unless we're talking about 911 turbos or gt3's I see regular Porsches every day
You gave away a Porsche for a Vette? Why???Sweet Jesus 😧
@@TheMoonchild1969 maybe he got an older 911 and switch side to the younger stingray
Tell that!! Well said!
Can’t believe that video is 11 years old
That car is still brand new
And still holds its value too
The Corvette is just pure... that's the best thing about it.
I haven't been a fan of Matt. I have always thought he came off as a know it all and a little stubborn. I love this review and his excitement for this amazing car has turned me around. he talked nonstop for 10 minutes about the car and not a single "um, aah, like, well um" just facts and numbers off the top of his head. well done.
Interior has come along way. I must say American cars on a whole have come along way interior wise
True DAT. My balt ss as is a good car. My 2011 gen rspec still beats it on most things though
jeff rosenberg stop talking about yourshitty ass cobalt in every comment its a fwd i can never be a race car
Migalouch Garcia stfu moron ! balt ss set a fwd record on the ring and smoked the old rwd m3 ! idiot !
jeff rosenberg there you go again bragging about your shitty american 4cyl pos car
Migalouch Garcia
stfu Ahole - did you know a Honda FWD just beat a Porsche Turbo on the RING ? probably not cause your too stupid and ignorant. lmfao
Hey you still around and kicking it?!?!
How many miles are on your Vette now? Thank you for your service!
Matt you nailed this corvette review.. I like the explanation and details about the car.. finally the corvette that all the fans that dream off..
I am a first time corvette owner 2018 c7 Z07,
I can’t say enough good things about the car, absolutely beautiful inside out, confidently can take on any super car,
My respects to GM engineers
Always liked the c5/6 vettes enough...z06/zr1 especially...but never wanted a vette this bad... coming from someone into Mercedes and owned porsches and gtrs
Shahul Usman I have a bmw 335i full bolt ons and this will be my next car. Unless I get a Z06
This car makes me proud to be an American. Good luck finding a better price on a car with those specs.
1:29 🇺🇸!
Finally, someone who knows cars and Corvettes in particular. I just bought a 2016 Z51 in the same Laguna Blue. Excellent machine. Also, can't beat the price.
I just bought a '16 Z51 LT2 in white with carbon black. You having any issues so far?
@@pslim68, just one stupid problem, my gas cap wouldn't open as a gas station. It seems to be a "known" issue so I watched a video and basically pulled off the part from under the wheel well, I 'll have someone fix that later. Great Car!
Some may think I sound dumb saying this but I'm from the UK and when I have enough cash and a licence I am coming to the states to buy this car and import it back to the UK! I think this car is absolutely amazing!
Can't wait to buy this car in 4 or 5 years for half the price :)
BasedNeel Same. You can actually get c6 now for 20-30k all day.
BasedNeel you can buy any 5 year old car for almost half price. heck, you can buy a 5 year old house for half price today.
BasedNeel DEPRECIATION
I Don't Know Except for BMW M models. They stay valuable for 10 yrs+
Jason S They just depreciate slower, that's about it. You can pick up an 08-10 for about $30k if you look hard enough. M5s are even cheaper.
No, my Corvette is worth much more as a car than it is as money.
Can't wait for the C8 review. Base model
funny...
Lmao
Just wait t'il the Z06 and ZR1 comes out :P Going to be an exotic ass kicking.....
first corvette that is just absolutely gorgeous.... a real treat to behold
Best Corvette every build in the History G.M
never been a fan of american cars..but if I am the market for a sportscar for around 50-80ish thousand, the stingray would probably be first on the list. Legendary engine, reliability, improved refinement, fuel economy and it is just so pretty to look at.
2016 GT350
+colin frazier Camaro 1LE eats that car for lunch
+colin frazier lmfaooooooo!! thats gotta be a joke
+colin frazier Lol at these small kids with no gains saying a camaro is better than the king
+Jason M It looks smaller than the new Mustang as well but what's really impressive is the low and small profile. I saw one on the highway recently and mistook it for a supercar until I got close to it. Wow, this thing is a shock to the senses.
I always turn on auto rev match.
I love it!
this car in person is fucking unreal.
oh shit i am also a junior in high school, and an all new corvette came out... we are the same matt!!!!
Big Vic and Slow Joe when did u graduate I graduated 2015
Such a great video. My favorite C7 video. I just got one and am going to give it the full Stereo Integrity treatment in a few months. Finally some proper great sound in one of these.
Is there a reason people get excited about smoking tires. I just see money going up in flames. P.S. LOVE this car. Especially how the interior is laid out.
But that was my question... why is it fun? I'm trying to understand, but I don't.
Especially on cars like these (Corvettes, Hellcats, 1le & Z/28 Camaros, Shelbys), that's like $2k to replace the tires... ugly, ugly, ugly.
thelonelydirector you are counting all 4 tires. only the back 2 smoke.
If I was the guy in the truck at the end I would have been thinking, "Damn, that guy sure as hell didn't bull shit me." haha
im sure people felt the same way when 5 speeds started coming out. just gotta get used to it thats all
It is 3,298 according to general motors's press materials from the launch.
They don't call it the smoking tyre for nothing...
Youre rigt, they call it TheSmokingTIRE.
+TGV1337 Lol my bad. Although i would say i was wrong, not rigt.
You're totally right, you were wrong ;P
I was kind of losing my interest in GM cars, but this car totally restored my faith that they can make a positive contribution to the automotive world. Good review - fun to watch.
i cant wait to see what the Z06 will bring ???if its thats good then more brakes more hp and more handling maybe just maybe this will show up the euro cars :) i just want jeremy clarkson to say he loves it then i can die happy
C3 is still my favorite even with the lack of power and the sketchy build quality...
Great ending. Love your shows.
ZeroStriker426 which Ferrari are you daily driving? Which lamborghini? A stupid complaint really.
Michael Ghiglieri i like european cars and corvettes... I love all cars, like a true enthusiast
Michael Ghiglieri these people are just made because they know that if you want crazy power you need a big heavy motor, and they would rather have handling. But they start crying when they see one of those big heavy American built muscle cars screaming past them in a straight line because they cant hear that dam techno music over those sound of an American v8.
Michael Ghiglieri it's youtube man a bunch of dumb wanna be's
Crazy fuel economy out of this thing. Thank you GM for not making a piece of shit and really showing what Americans can do.
Yes, Tuned returns first week in October.
Matt Farrah's driving talents repertoire: Burnouts
Engine built in Tonawanda NY, USA. Not Korea, China, Japan, Germany or Mexico. Yes, we can make stuff here and you can buy it. You don't have to impress your friends with foreign junk.
Just because your country built a really good car for a change, doesn't mean other countrie's cars are junk. That being said, the new Vette has a good shot at being the best sports car this decade.
Ism Ael best *affordable* sports car this decade
C6 ZR1 new is >100 000 US. Pretty psyched for the C7 equivalent. But affordable????
At just shy of 55,000 USD with the 1LT Z51 Pkg, it is quite affordable for the slightly wealthier than average person. In addition, I don't expect this car's value to hold too well, despite it being such a good car, so in a year or two, this car will drop to the 40,000 USD range, which makes it affordable to even more people. The cost of ownership of Corvettes are also significantly lower than its German counterparts, which adds to the affordability.
ewt415 "this car will drop to the 40,000 USD range"
Heavily used, yea.
Just do it. You won't regret it.
Nothing controversial about it, it's a fantastic manual transmission. Get it.
Some people just think it has to many gears, there is nothing bad about it, and if makes little difference
No issues, I have no problem getting form 4th to 5th quickly, I rarely use 6th at all. If on the highway I just run 4th to 7th as 4th can take you well over any posted speed limit in the US in a hurry.
One test burnout is acceptable.
Two is questionable.
Three is silly.
Four is extremely silly.
Five is moronic.
Hop in your prius and do a burnout, then you will understand why you do burnouts in cars you love
everyone has one artist or one band that they feel speaks directly to them. For me, that band is Pearl Jam.
3:08 omg LOL
I love this car
Have a supercharged/built C5Z right now...absolutely can't wait to go C7 Z51 next. C7 Z06 unfortunately went a direction I was hoping it wouldn't, but I plan on hitting the Z06 parts bin on a Z51 build, then doing some one off stuff. Can't wait! Z51 is the car to buy in C7, as much as I hate to say that. It hit the mark dead balls...
I really want this car.
They don't call it "The Smoking Tire" for nothing
ive seen, been in, ridden in the C7, this car has a passion, it goes like hell, and it has a soul, its like an italian car on looks and performance. the corvette is truly now a luxurious super car.
Whoa! whoa! Easy there champ! I love the C7 too, but calling it a "super car" is really pushin it. That term is reserved for only a handful of high performance exotics (Ferrari 458 Italia, McLaren MP4 12C, Lamborghini Aventador, Porsche 918, etc...)
Given how quickly Corvettes depreciate, that's going to make a fantastic second hand buy in a few years time. Awesome!!
Stephan Joram You currently cannot buy a C7 under 3 years old for much less than a new one is going for. Nice try though.
Liz Myers you can get a C7 Z51 with under 50K miles for around $40k ...
until then you're going to have to keep driving your Honda Fit
Chris Cahill almost 50k for a 2014 z51 3lt right now.
Not a big fan of Chevy and Gov't Motors but this car is fucking great
Bodybuilder X The US gov't sold it's last shares of GM back in DEC of 2013.
iambiggus company still doesn't hold my respect as much as ford does
Bodybuilder X Ford *barely* escaped bankruptcy. You don't think they asked for and took gov't money? Time for a little research.
iambiggus they didn't.
Bodybuilder X They asked for money *twice*, actually. My bad.
The end burnout was absolutely awesome!
I have to disagree with you Matt about the Corvette being compromise and not being on pace with the euro's, Corvette is the winning-est car in the ALMS GT category racing against Porsche, Ferrari, and other European makes.
I think he meant in terms of fit and finish (especially the interior).
im a european and dont like american cars but this corvette is a true wonder machine.. go on americans!!!
hh im just a nice guy
you're not fucking European... you look miles from having anything to do with Europe lol
Its not my own picture, its the look a like from flava flav
I know European cars are fast but they didn't have the muscle car quality at all. Muscle cars are powerful enough to take both European and possibly supercars. That's just an opinion ok
The stingray is going to change all that
my test car was just about as loaded as they come at $66.5k. If someone is asking $75k for a C7, they are trying to rip you off.
I have the stingray
Best smoking tire yet. Good job Matt. Keep up the good work.
I think more GM then any others haha, fords and dodges are still a step behind. IMO
American v8s use large bores with large strokes.
Huge amounts of RPM isn't needed to make horsepower.
Hence the deep sound
Europeans use small displacement engines, small strokes and small bores.
Combined with 10 or 12 cylinders they have to REVVE much higher to make up for the torque they don't make.
More RPM=high pitched
Stephen Bagnell plus the orgasmic sound of the cams hitting on a V8.
the engine in the c7 has been around for 10 plus years with some new goodies and direct injection. Proven engine so reliablity isnt a issue.
Richard Wilson It hasn't been out for 10 years?
Unfortunately everyone and there mom has the new c7 now where I live :( It's nearly as common as seeing 3 series bmw.
Vernon Price Again that's your opinion. Hopefully you don't get emotionally involved in other comments on youtube, you'll be having a bad time.
the dead-on side view is best, bro.
Sure it's not as fast as the Corvette but it makes much more sense on the roads I usually drive.
aj stew
Oh I'm so hurt that you called me gay /sarcasm
Mate. I tried to be civil in a discussion about personal opinions. There's no need to be crass.
Get ready to get flamed by every Corvette/Chevy/American car fan there is.
krocialblack
What?! Vette fans usually bring up practicality and affordability.
I just prefer a car that's more practical and makes more sense on the twisting country roads and in the claustrophobic towns of europe. I wouldn't want to wrestle a HUGE Vette around in my home-town that's for sure.
lotsanuts nuts
That's why I'd want the Porsche. I know I get the full package for the money I pay (practical, fun handling, performance, luxury).
The Corvette has always been a compromise solution for me. It tries to compete over it's class and suffers for it.
lotsanuts nuts
60k? Sounds great.
Now double the price because it's an import, now triple the price (taxes, we pay 240% of the cars price on top of the price), now jack up the price even more because the engine is a colossal 6.2 liter V8.
After all this the Porsche 991 Carrera 4S is the better deal (at least long term, because of green tax which is calculated on the engines size). And even then I'm not pickish. I'll be glad with the 996 Carrera 2.
Matt Farrah needs to go on a diet.
He is jewish , so ... Fat
lmfao !!!!!!!!!
Beautiful at any size ;)
He is on a diet. A high calorie diet. That's why he's so happy and smiling. You should try it sometime, and you won't be so uptight.
I cross shopped the C7 and the 991 the C7 wins hands down. I love my C7 the best super car for the money.
Ever going to take those Camaro tail lights off, and use Corvette tail lights again?
For real though
I said the same thing when it first came out.... they changed headlights on the C6 and now tailights on the C7.... The C5 is the last real Corvette as far as tradition goes.
bstarnes514 Yep. I got the C5. Miss the double round taillights in rear. The rear end now looks like a Pontiac Trans Am.
at last the Yanks are getting their shit together building sports cars they always had the power just dont go round a corner lol as there handling was shit compared to the Europeans, i mean the last mustang had a live rear axle just to save 5 grand on the cost i see they have now rectified that with the new one, but it has taken the bosses of the US motor trade too long to figure out it aint all about cost, its about the cars overall abilities as the Eropeans and Japanese took ever bigger chunks out of the pie why because of quality concerns with Yanky models, the new corvette and mustang looks like they are at last getting the message and maybe good enough to export once again on quality
I would still trust the Japanese and Europeans way more when buying a sports car/super car.
ME TOO BUT AT LEAST THEY ARE NOW TRYING
Jason Nyers
You can't get what the corvette gives for the price..... Its easy for Porsche to be the best when you pay more than double. Imagine if Corvette was 150,000 dollar car with the C7......
For a mere $85,000 you can get the new Z06 which will destroy many cars costing well over $150,000
You can spend $55,000 on a base C7 and still have a world class car.
You state; "they always had the power just dont go round a corner lol as there handling was shit compared to the Europeans"
Really?
What were the head to head lap times of the C6 Z06 vs. European cars? (Not the ZR1, just the N/A C6 Z06.)
The Mustang was never intended to put in super fast lap times.
I bought a 2017 ZO6 new and still have it. Like it so much that the C8 has not yet won me over!
Ford GT is so much better than this GM pos...
That is VERY true.
Im a Ford guy and I still would rather have the C7 Z06
A $200,000K GT better than a $55K c7?
well damn
o. compariing apples & oranges ! STFU !
Well damn, I bet a Ferrari 458 Italia is better than this car too?!
Beautiful car, especially the interior. I was surprised by it. Glad to see the good old us of a pushing their quality standards. Hats off to them.
Loved when he saw the f40 and gave the guy thumbs up.
I'm not an american car guy but I do happen to like the new vette. Nice to see some American car companies really stepping up their game for once. Great car. The tire warmth feature really impressed me.
2013, wow crazy it's already almost 6 years old.
Nice smoking the tires! I've had many many exotic European and imports cars since I was seventeen. The new corvette is really a game changer. The new Z06 is on my next car list. Good job GM.
I have had mine for a month now. and still think it is a great car
Love his videos. Anyone who dailys a volt and also enjoys supercars = car guy.
Just watched a video from 4 years ago. My how far you have come Matt and you are a little heavier since then lol. Congrats on having done so well. Oh yea, the C7 is nice too lol. Please do an SRT Viper video ;D
Hands down the greatest vehicle review of all time.
that's a big call .
I'm not a corvette fan, but wow that z51 package is the deal of the century. 2800 bucks for dry sump, lsd, bigger brakes, aero... great value!
The c7 is all he said, just put 1000miles on my new c7. It's totally awesome. Lots of car for the money. It is the real American deal. Warren
hello mat your right about 80 corvettes but also a great platform for guys as myself to joint the club and havr a platform to restomod and value wise on a budget get a pretty fast car and do mods as much as possible still on a budget and driver wise have a good classic.now, looking at new corvettes that you have and the newer ones im very educated on which one i want when i get ready to buy.the c 7 will be the one.the review was very good.also i like your car.its a beast in its own right.there is nothing wrong with upgrades and modifying any corvette as long as its a good upgrade.thanks for the great work you do on the smoking tire i enjoy looking at the reviews time after time.
"not too short, not too stiff. we're talking about shifters here" ha great line.
I'm so happy Gm has finally stepped it up!!!! Yahhhhhhhh!
Its about time they make a corvette with a worthy interior and build quality along side the awesome performance!
I've got to give it to GM - it looks so tempting this C7. And in my opinion it's worth every single penny.
