people dislike this, are people what have no or do not know what TRADITION is like, i am from a small village in the alps, TIROL, we also preserve traditions what goes back hundreds of years, i just can say keep up with what you are doing guys, i visited hawai and i love it
I loved Kahaluu!!! In the mornings I would push my baby Amber's stroller to the Buddhist Temple, at Valley of the Temples, where we lived. There was a wonderful fish pond there. The monks sometimes would come out to admire my beautiful blonde haired blue eyed baby, so rare in Hawaii.
This is the first time Iʻve watch this video and it was very good to see relatives singing about the good olʻdays and how weʻll remember growing up at our homes in Kahaluʻu.
I am Kahalu'u born and raised. Been living in Hilo for awhile now, but Kahalu'u will ALWAYS be home for me. This brought tears of joy but also sadness and heartache from my childhood and the Kahalu'u I grew up in. "Change is the strangest thing, it cannot be denied". Ku'u Home O Kahalu'u!!
My dad was invited to teach math at Kailua High, in 1968, so we moved from Seattle to Kaneohe, because we couldn't find a house in Kailua at that time. What an amazing experience! My father bought some land in Kahalu'u the next year and built a home, with our help, (and contractor). Then my father, a beautiful soul, was hit by a car as he walked down the sidewalk into Kailua after teaching, one day. That ended our paradise, and the rest of us moved back to the Mainland. But I couldn't believe how friendly the people are over there, even though they had their land taken away. I suppose that it was bound to happen, as they couldn't hide forever. The Hawaiians knew that it couldn't last forever. At least the advances in technology made their lives more comfortable in some ways. But I know that they would trade those in a minute for the old ways.
My family is so blessed as we were baptized in the Holy Spirit by the late Kahu George Naipo. Back in the mid 90’s we would travel to his church Ekalesia from Ewa Beach every Sunday where we became born again. At his side was his son Danny Naipo and Kelly boy as they were Deacons of his church. It was in is Glory (God) and an honor to have been a part of his congregation. Aloha oe Kahu. I know you are in his kingdom smiling down on us all. Till we meet again.....soon we’ll be “Going home”.
Aloha ... I can tell you that he is. George Naipo was my grand uncle, my grandmother's brother. I miss them both dearly but I am glad that (even though you didn't really have to travel THAT far) you were able to interact and be with my Uncle Kanoe and the rest of my ohana.
I've been away from Hawaii for 5 years now. These videos, set in the most beautiful locations, with current artists singing and playing the timeless classics...is so refreshing and reminds me so much of home. Mahalo to all who are involved with this project.
Funny how I just got this in my feed. Beautiful rendition of my "anthem" for small kid time, when I lived up the valley from Jerry and the Hygienic Store. Rode my white horse down to the store where Jerry was often hanging out. Beautiful valley except for the mold that grew on our low ceilings. Memories of cleaning it with ammonia. But riding horse all over into mysterious remains of human habitation and verdant overgrowth over streams. Red dirt and centipedes. The Pekin nightingales and pueo. Beauty and life.
I remember days when we were younger We used to catch 'o'opu in the mountain stream 'Round the Ko'olau hills we'd ride on horseback So long ago it seems it was a dream Last night I dreamt I was returning And my heart called out to you But I fear you won't be like I left you Me kealoha ku'u home o Kahaluu I remember days when we were wiser When our world was small enough for dreams And you have lingered there my sister And I no longer can it seems Last night I dreamt I was returning And my heart called out to you But I fear you won't be like I left you Me kealoha ku'u home o Kahaluu Change is a strange thing It cannot be denied It can help you find yourself Or make you lose your pride Move with it slowly As on the road we go Please do not hold on to me We all must go alone I remember days when we were smiling When we laughed and sang the whole night long And I will greet you as I find you With the sharing of a brand new song Last night I dreamt I was returning And my heart called out to you To please accept me as you'll find me Me kealoha ku'u home o Kahaluu
These are our people, that love our land and where we come from. We know where we belong. No matter where in the world we may be. We think about and love our lands.
Mahalo to all of the wonderful artists who contributed to this classic and meaningful mele! I continue to watch and listen to this because it is a very needed message and sentiment on island as well as around the world. I struggle to understand why this mele and others like it are not more popular and on international charts. Please accept my love for your work and everyone should hear this.

I Miss my stomping grounds of Kahaluu. Lovely colaboration of a musical classic. Aloha from Las Vegas
I remember days when we were younger
We used to catch 'o'opu in the mountain stream
'Round the Ko'olau hills we'd ride on horseback
So long ago it seems it was a dream
Last night I dreamt I was returning
And my heart called out to you
But I fear you won't be like I left you
Me kealoha ku'u home o Kahaluu
I remember days when we were wiser
When our world was small enough for dreams
And you have lingered there my sister
And I no longer can it seems
Last night I dreamt I was returning
And my heart called out to you
But I fear you won't be like I left you
Me kealoha ku'u home o Kahaluu
Change is a strange thing
It cannot be denied
It can help you find yourself
Or make you lose your pride
Move with it slowly
As on the road we go
Please do not hold on to me
We all must go alone
I remember days when we were smiling
When we laughed and sang the whole night long
And I will greet you as I find you
With the sharing of a brand new song
Last night I dreamt I was returning
And my heart called out to you
To please accept me as you'll find me
Me kealoha ku'u home o Kahaluu
It's nice to see adults and children singing together. Lovely💜
These are our people, that love our land and where we come from. We know where we belong. No matter where in the world we may be. We think about and love our lands.
