also were those brine shrimp in the tank with the fry or fairy shrimp and what other type of live foods do you use for fry. Ive been using micro worms for a while but i feel like they cant sustain them for the rest of their lives. i tried brine shrimp but i dont have a bank account to constantly buy eggs to hatch. recently Ive been looking into sustainable food sources like daphnia, white worms and blood worms. one more thing when i feed my killies micro worms there are these tiny little louce like things that skim the surface of the water and occasionally dive would you have any idea what they might be and how to culture them (they seem to be culturing themselves in my fry tank keeping the little guys fed during my current microworm deficiency...they wont climb the edges -.-)
I'm not sure what those louse things are called but a couple of my tanks have them too! i haven't seen any fish eat them though. I bought a can of brine shrimp eggs back in 2011 for $40 and I only just finished it last month. They last a LONG time in the freezer. I keep the can in the freezer and have a smaller bottle of brine shrimp eggs in my wine cooler that I use for hatching. I replenish the small bottle every 2-3 weeks from the one in the freezer.
wow thats a whole load of brine shrimp. my only problem with brine shrimp is the spare resources needed to keep them. I want to try with fairy shrimp since i already have experience with raising them to adulthood but theyre so expensive in comparison.
Yeah I never raise brine shrimp to adulthood, I only feed them freshly hatched. Did you see my video on how I hatch BBS? I only have 1 hatchery, a brine shrimp net, and a cup. It takes me about 10 minutes a day to harvest way more BBS than I ever need.
Hey! I have those little white bugs too! My betta fry LOVE them!!!! The size of the white bugs can range from microscopic to the size of a pin head... Almost, not quite that big. But yeah, my fry love them. Platy fry too.
How long after the fry hatched did you put them in their main aquarium? How long can they live in the container after they have hatched? Would really appreciate any advice 🙏
My Golden Wonder female is worrying me. She is breathing hard and hanging out around the bottom of the tank a lot. She also keeps chasing the new male I got about a month ago. Is she trying to find somewhere to spawn? I feel bad because she seems stressed to me! Please help! I love my killi girl!! AND: Is a five gallon too small for a killi pair?
That's cool & very interesting so do you really need to do this for the kili fish eggs ? Or can they hatch in the fish tank & how did you find the eggs
where can i get killifish eggs i ordered some from Thailand n the eggs did not hatch did u use a light on top of the eggs or left them at room temperature mine are still sitting in my basement since 12/31/2016 n still nothing i hope you answer soon lol love the video by the way that was awesome the way they hatched right away i wish i was that lucky i just want to try again n would love to get more eggs but dont know where thanks sorry for the book writing lol
I would try Aquabid, but make sure that they are local. They were probably damaged in shipping. Getting eggs right now is actually a little dangerous because of extreme weather conditions, so if you can wait, then ordering when the weather is better might be worth it. You can also check out local aquarium clubs. Really the best place is through the American Killifish Association. They have a very large and active member base and they can put you in touch with breeders!
Betta Gene the Low I got in the mail (see my unboxing vid) and the others I collected myself :) I detail how I collected them in my livestream, but that's a long one lol
Yeah! They are very hardy fish that come from some pretty crazy conditions in the wild. Some basically live in elephant footprints or tiny ditches 6 inches wide and only an inch deep!
I started with a pair that I got from my local killifish club. If you have experience raising fry, then eggs might be a good way to go because the fry will be well adjusted to your conditions. However, killifish tend to skew towards males, and there is always the possibility that entire spawns can turn male lol. A pair is great because their sex is guaranteed and you can collect multiple eggs from them.
I had some that had a hatch date set for 2 weeks past and they hatched that day and I have some that are supposed to be ready now and it's been a week.....idk crap shoot? Maybe dates were off a bit
The gardneri were super fast, while the Loe took overnight. Unfortunately my bivs were mysteriously missing.... D: Time to re-dry and re-wet! (Super weird though because they were eyed up and looked ready to go...hmmm...)
Hi just want to know what temperature hatch best for you, 80 degree or room temp?

Hi there - At what PH did you hatch and raise the babies?
do you see your eggs? and if so, where can i buy them
what did you feed them
BBS or baby brine shrimp are great for most newly hatched fry
Very informative. Played at 1,5 speed.
How long after the fry hatched did you put them in their main aquarium? How long can they live in the container after they have hatched? Would really appreciate any advice 🙏
Hey, where did you get your Killi eggs ? I saw a few sellers on eBay but had bad reviews with little or no hatch rate.
I got a breeder box do you thing i can put them in the box and hang it on the side of the tank or should i have them in still water
Do you feed the fry decapsulated brine shrimp?
My Golden Wonder female is worrying me. She is breathing hard and hanging out around the bottom of the tank a lot. She also keeps chasing the new male I got about a month ago. Curious, did you have a different result for the incubated eggs at 80 vs room temperature? Also, what is your average room temperature?
Unfortunately none of the species I incubated at the two different temperatures hatched for me :( My average room temp is about 71F
where did you get the eggs from did you buy them and if you did where did buy them at
Everything I know about killifish I learned from this video.
Where did you get your eggs?
Once you release the bellow on the pipette, the water will rush in and suck up the fry. It is pretty harmless, don't be scared to try ;)
So what's the process to incubate them
looks like she wet peat moss the eggs until ready to hatch. I keep mine in a petri dish until they are raedy.
You are very organised and this was a very cool video to watch 🤗🤗🎉
That's cool & very interesting so do you really need to do this for the kili fish eggs ? Or can they hatch in the fish tank & how did you find the eggs
I just got a breeding pair of clown killis off liveaquaria, so excited!
how did it go? any babies yet?
What is the thing you used.
Hi! Please could you tell me what substrate this is? Or what compost you are using?
It looks like just cocofiber
What water to use?

where did you get yours or your not telling lol
Betta Gene the Low I got in the mail (see my unboxing vid) and the others I collected myself :) I detail how I collected them in my livestream, but that's a long one lol
Just a question, what tubs do you use for breeding/fry tanks?
I use the 3 gallon clear storage containers from IKEA. Pretty clear so I can see my fish, sturdy, they stack, AND they were only $3!!!
Thank you! I personally use the 6 gallons for the fish I have, but I'm looking to branch out to killies and see where that takes me. Have a great day!
So they don't require aeration in their tanks ? I've seen people keep fry in delicups and 2 liter bottles with no aeration.
Yeah! They are very hardy fish that come from some pretty crazy conditions in the wild. Some basically live in elephant footprints or tiny ditches 6 inches wide and only an inch deep!
They hatch at a pretty big size, are the eggs like corydoras eggs in size?
I have no idea how large corydoras eggs are lol
I love your how to vids. What are the species names? I want to try buying some eggs. Are they an easy species to raise?
These guys are Fundulopanchex gardneri Gold. They have been selectively bred from the wild type gardneri to be a bright golden color. I love them!
Did you get them to Adulthood? X
very cool I was wondering how you go about hatching these guys.
April W yeah I couldn't find any good videos! So I made one lol
did you get your original stock as eggs or adults? i was looking into getting into some killis but i dont know which is better to get.
I started with a pair that I got from my local killifish club. If you have experience raising fry, then eggs might be a good way to go because the fry will be well adjusted to your conditions. However, killifish tend to skew towards males, and there is always the possibility that entire spawns can turn male lol. thank you :) i will probably get eggs then since i have experience in raising betta fry and plant spawning killis :)
Where did you buy them?
Local killifish club!
Great idea to cut the tip off the pipette! I use a straw for babies.
i put my eggs in teh water, and its been 16 hours and i dont see any
I had some that had a hatch date set for 2 weeks past and they hatched that day and I have some that are supposed to be ready now and it's been a week.....idk crap shoot? Maybe dates were off a bit
Do you have any killis for sale eggs or live?
No but Aquabid is a good resource
can they hatch outside in the sun?
I 'm sure they can. I haven't heard anything specific about putting them in sun though
That was nifty! Makes me want to try some!
Good video, think ima have to watch that livestream now
Grab a drink and food, it's long LOL
@@Skylrrider his eggs can live how long if he doesn't put in the water
Awesome video!
Awesome stuff!
whoa, that's a quick hatch.
The gardneri were super fast, while the Loe took overnight. Unfortunately my bivs were mysteriously missing.... D: Time to re-dry and re-wet! (Super weird though because they were eyed up and looked ready to go...hmmm...)
those are some tough hardy fish :)
Awesome Gianne
looking good.subscribed:-)
That is awesome I just bought a yellow wonder killifish
Nice!
I legit use a turkey baster lol
hehe i see what you did there "pipette sucks"
Wait, what, your pipette sucks?
hahahahahhaha I see what you did there :p
Eggcellent...
haha pipette puns
