I love Killifish. They’re sooo colourful. I would attempt this but my biggest issue is providing them with the food they need as I don’t know where to find those locally. All of the live food I found are too big for them
Hatching baby brine shrimp is super easy and you can find eggs with good hatch rates online! I believe they are also available on amazon. Another great option for the babies is infusoria, if you put some water from your aquarium in a water bottle or cup and leave it by a window with bright light for a few days it will grow infusoria in the water!
Hi! Quick question- how long do you keep them in aquarium salt for? When you do water changes, do you add aquarium salt back to the container? This video is really well done! Needs more views!
Hello! First of all thank you so much!! For the Nothobranchius species I do continue to add aquarium salt after water changes as they are prone to velvet disease in soft waters! With that being said if the water you use for water changes is already hard then you likely won’t need to. As for the Aphyosemion or Fundalopanchex fry I gradually lessen the amount of salt in the water until I’m no longer adding any, but again this depends on the hardness of your water!!
Hello, thank you for the information you provided. I am using a translator. If possible, please write in full, because I have a gardinari killifish that has many eggs, but they do not hatch and the eggs are spoiled.
Great vid man. Managed to hatch around 40 eggs from AliExpress. When should i do first water change. Also as they are microscopic, isn't water a bit hard. Like one might end up throwing some out along with the water? Thanks
Thank you and congrats on your babies! I would start water changes as soon as possible especially if you don't have a bubbler in the water. And yes it can be hard to water change at that age, I use a turkey baster at that age and triple check the water before I throw it out! Good luck with your babies and let me know if you have any other questions! :)
Nice video, I'm considering to get my first killifish but do you consider necessary to have different types of live food? Or i can have it with only arthemia?
Thanks! Variety is always helpful when it comes to live foods but it’s not necessary. The baby killis will grow perfectly fine with just Artemia. Good luck on your killifish journey and let me know if you have any questions!!
I was recently gifted a pair of breeding Australe Orange killifish...now I think they have been spawning but I see no eggs...if ther is no java moss or spawning mop will they still drop eggs around the aquarium?
Yes they can still drop eggs around the aquarium when there is no java moss or spawning mops. Australe are a non annual killifish so you never have to dry the eggs for them to hatch (it can be safely done but is not necessary). I know a few people who are breeding them in fully planted aquariums and the fry just hatch and grow in the same aquarium as the parents. Some fry are still getting eaten that way though so if you were hoping to increase the amount of babies you get then spawning mops are probably still the better way to go! I also have a video up on breeding non annual killifish here's the link if you want to check it out! ruclips.net/video/B1r0Xindibc/видео.html
Hi! Not sure if you’ll see this or not but I just got a container of aphosymion eggs (hope I’m spelling that right!) and I’m wondering what temperature do you keep the container at?
Unfortunately I currently don’t have anymore eggs available for the year, I can however ship eggs to the USA! Check in again next spring to see what I have available!
Hello! Yes the cold temperatures can have an effect on the eggs, I don’t recommend buying them in winter!! I bought eggs in March and unfortunately even that was too cold and nothing hatched. Killifish eggs are best shipped in spring or fall when it’s not too cold nor too hot!
I usually start seeing the first fry moving within a couple of hours of wetting the moss. Usually takes between 12-24 hours till the first few fry that hatched actually start swimming around tho!
All doing well! You can see pictures of the adults on my Instagram @Daffysreptiles I will also be releasing a video in the next 2-3 weeks on breeding the aphyosemion I hatched in this video. Stay tuned!!
That’s awesome!! Did they show you my channel? Shrimp fever is one of the locations I have to stop by everytime im in the GTA. Hoping to go there again in the near future and try the new killi eggs they recently got in!
They don’t need to be exact to the date but if you hatch them too early (before they have eyes) they won’t hatch! As for after recommended hatch date, I’ve been able to hatch killifish for up to a year afterwards but they do eventually expire if they’re not hatched!
Thanks for the clarification! One last question, the kilifish hatched, but they aren't eating my crushed flakes, should I be worried or is this normal?
Those bloopers sent me xD love the vibe
Why are killifish names so hard to pronounce 😫😂
So happy to have found you and this video 🥰
Glad you enjoyed the video!

Wow nice video. How long can the fry stay like that until they need air pumps?
Depends on how often you do water changes! i had them in there for about a month before i moved them out but i was doing water changes every two days!

It is super easy, you should definitely give it a try!! I actually bought a pair of the nothos from angelfins.ca and bred them myself!

How come you don’t use the the air pump
I’ve tried both ways and found more success without using it for the first few weeks!
Very interesting 🐡

No, unfortunately I don't enjoy videos with background music: it is ANNOYING.
I’m sorry to hear that! I have tried editing without music but just did not find the video as enjoyable as with the background music.
