Thank you Pam.
It's always reassuring to know that there's many of us out there struggling to make a start, that we are never alone.
That is so true Maria--we are never alone in the struggle to get started. I have the word "begin" near my desk as a constant reminder--it's that difficult for me to get started some days that I need an ongoing prompt! I hope you are having a creative day!
I really like the writing in big letters, no space and backward!!!!!
I hope you give it a try! I'll admit I don't normally write backwords like that but I do like the caps with no spaces--try it in a fluid acrylic or ink and it turns out great.
Yes yes yes I’m in the process of selling my house, a funeral, a birthday party …..I need to get back to my art!!!!
Oh, my gosh that is a LOT! I hope you can find a small slot to squeeze in some art--no paint required!
I need jump leads to get me motivated sometimes and yet when I start, I enjoy it so much I wonder what the problem was. Thanks again for sharing. It's good to know I'm not alone 😊
I hear ya--isn't it crazy how we resist starting? I mean why in the world wouldn't we do something that we love? I think maybe we put pressure on ourselves to create something of value, meaning, or beauty when we should just enjoy the process.
Such a pleasure to see you walk the walk. Good tips, good incentives. Thank you.
Ann, that means so much--thanks for letting me know! I hope you are encouraged to be creative!
Hi Pam, I'm so excited! I just purchased one of your vintage journals, the year I was born! Cant wait to get it! ❤
Oh, thank you so much Gwynned! I have just packaged up your order and it will ship out later this afternoon. I appreciate your support!!
I ordered another one too and the Derwent assorted chunky charcoal!!! I'm so excited! ❤ Thank you for inspiring me! I'm so glad I found your channel! Now, you know how old I am! 😅
@@gwynnedjackson3871 You are so kind Gwynned! I hope your package arrives soon--I had fun wrapping it up for you. And as for your age--well, you are only as old as you feel....and from my perspective, you've got lots of youthful energy and curiosity!
This has helped so much!!! And I love how you painted the backgrounds ahead of time. Sometimes breaking the page is hard enough. And the fact that you already have random backgrounds is such a wonderful idea!!!
I'm so glad that this was helpful Victoria. The reason I have so many backgrounds is that I clean off my brushes and use up leftover paint in my art journal and on random papers. It definitely helps when you getting started.
Thank you for the inspiration 💞 going tontry this
@@reneedewaal8787 That sounds great! Glad you were inspired Renee!
Sorry to hear you have been sick and hope your Mom is recovering as well .... no wonder it was hard for you to find your creative self with all of that stress.
I finally have found a name for my art style...."Controlled Chaos"........perfect and fitting. I have not been feeling it either the last couple of days....so will definately try this. I have been looking at those Woodies on Amazon....I have only seen sets...would love to buy just a couple to see if I like them.....more great tips!
Get the set of woodies! They have a variety of uses. My fav is to dip them into water prior to mark making.
Thanks Pam! I make my videos a few weeks ahead of time so I was sick in early Sept and thankfully my mom is out of the hospital and doing better. But all the life events (good and bad) do affect creativity and the desire to start up again. I love the idea of "controlled chaos" as an art style. I feel like giving words to our art is life-giving in its own way--like naming something or owning it. The Stabilo Woodies are also available online at Dick Blick but I think you need to spend $35+ to get free shipping. You might also check Michaels if you have one nearby--they often have discounts on art supplies.
@@pamhemmerling "Controled Chaos" is what you called it in this video...hope it is o.k. to borrow it.....the best description of the art style I love! Have never looked on the Dick Blick site.....but guess where I am going now. We do have a Michael's not far from me, so will have to make a visit soon.
@@pambuike4587 Haha, I do not remember using those words and yes, you can totally use them! Hope you can find one of the Stabilo Woodies to try. I am fairly certain I did not buy mine in a set.
Great ideas. Thank you .
Thanks so much Marcella! I hope it helped you to be creative today!
Love this. Thankyou!
Thanks Angelina! I hope it gave you some ideas for when you're having a hard time getting started.
Thank you! Very encouraging!
I'm glad you found it helpful Meggi! Thanks for watching.
Thank you! I’ve been stuck for two years. I needed this.
I'm glad you found this helpful Melissa. It's so hard to be stuck like that and paralyzed to get started. I hope you pull out a simple supply and just make a few marks--once you begin it will flow into the next thing.
Dear Pam, thanks for your ideas. I've got some really difficult weeks, hard times with personal stuff, no end in sight ... so I'm struggling too and time is limited, I love any kind of easy mark-making. What I also like ist starting the page with collage, black and white, bookpaper, underpaper with paint ... sometimes it leads to more, sometimes it is there for another day. All the best and take care!
Oh Barbara, I am a big fan of starting with collage too. I agree it so often is an easy way to get started and leads to other things. And mark making is such an easy entry--I'm really trying to do that (even with a pencil!) when I can't do anything else. I'm sorry to hear that you also have been experiencing some difficulties--I know how easily it can hinder our ability to pause and make art which can be such a caring thing to do for ourselves.
This was great to watch, and I know I will think of it often when I'm feeling stuck or not creative. Thanks so much Pam
Kathy, I'm so glad to hear that this video will be a resource for you during those times you are feeling stuck--hopefully, it won't be very often!
Amazing motivation & progressive flow ❤😂🎉 a thank you beautiful
I appreciate you watching and letting me know Elizabeth! I hope you are encouraged to begin making art.
Thanks Pam, hopefully this is the start of a better week for you! I am expanding my repertoire of things to do when I don't want to do any lol...I try to do something creative every day. One of my go to 'starters' is to just prep something for another day...like tape off some grid pages in a grid journal, or tape down multiple watercolour or acrylic papers into one larger piece, so I am ready to roll when I get inspired. It almost always leads to more, and if not...I feel like I've done something to move forward so it makes me feel better. I thought of you today when I had mixed up far more paint than I needed and was running around putting it on a page of every 'in process' journal page I could find to use it all up LOL!
I love that Lianne! I can just see you trying to use up all your leftover paint--sometimes good things happen when we're not overthinking! I also like the idea of prepping as a way of getting started because that can inevitably lead to more. Why is is that we have to trick ourselves into doing the thing we love?!
Really love this video. In a bit of a funk with my art and needed some motivation and ideas. Love your style and your videos always help me to loosen up a bit and not try so hard. Thank you!
Thanks for letting me know that this has helped you loosen up and get motivated. I totally understand how it is when you're in a funk--it's too easy to stay stuck there and not press on. I hope you are able to get started with something small because I've found that to be a great entry--one thing leads to another.
Great Inspiration 👌
Thanks so much Katrin!
Thank you. 💖💖💖

Thank you for this❣️❣️ So helpful and encouraging.❤❤❤
I appreciate you letting me know that this was helpful. I hope you are encouraged to keep making art.
@@pamhemmerling I am completely encouraged. I just whipped out pages of background paint from the 'o' section of an old dictionary so I will have random papers to mark make on. Fully encouraged by watching your video and realizing that I didn't have any pages ready to accept those marks. 😌😁❤️
@@mrs.z605 This makes me so happy! Thanks for letting me know.
🎉😂🎉Thank you very much for this lovely video 💝💘💖
I appreciate you watching Thania! Thanks for letting me know.
Yes,, thanks so much Pam. I’ve been stuck for a few weeks now and was so frustrated. This was fun! I really want to buy those woodies!
I agree it is so frustrating to be stuck and not know how to get started again. I hope you are encouraged to grab any mark-making tool and give it a go. Thanks so much for watching Sherri!
SUPER helpful... I have m=a=n=y days like that, so this is a REALLY big help! Thank you! (: Deborah
Deborah, I think we are all in the same boat--struggling to make time, struggling to begin, just struggling. I'm glad this was helpful and I hope you are being creative today!
Yes, I think we all feel like Human Dartboards with darts flying at us from all sorts of unknown and known directions. The ONLY thing that has saved Me since the day the pandemic hit was learning how to collage, gel print, and so forth... RUclips, Thank You!!! LOL Did not know what any of that was (never been an Artist) until 1 video popped into my feed. And the rest is history. Your channel and tutilage is EXCELLENT. Plus, I LOVE your effervescent personality!
MUCH Love & RESPECT...
(: Deborah
@@deborahneumann9162 I agree with you 100% about RUclips Deborah--it is the same way I came to art 11 years ago. Who knew that RUclips could be so instrumental in finding our way?! I appreciate your warm and generous words about my videos!
Truth is truth... I appreciate You! (: @@pamhemmerling
