I have seen this with myself too. When I get close to 6-7% body fat I look more shredded but everything is deflated. But now that I am closer to 10-12% body fat my abs pop out more. Even though I am "fatter" than my summer version. Also, the added strength is just a cherry on top.

Try replacing will power with “why” power. When you try to do something with will power, you frame it in your mind as though you are depriving yourself of something. But if instead you sit down and write out a list of why you want cut down or bulk up and picture the end result you want, every time you choose not to pig out or every time you force yourself to get that extra workout or those extra calories in, you’ll feel like you’ve taken a step closer to your goal. That dopamine hit will spur you on, especially as you start noticing results.

I've been dealing with a debilitating back injury since the summer and it's a mf bro. You never realize how delicate your ability to do daily activities is. One serious back injury and boom! You can't even walk. The best way to rehab it is to keep a barbell from compressing as much as possible until you're fully healed. I recommend fully replacing back squats with BELT SQUATS (at least until you're comfortable reloading the spine and then slowly reintroducing the barbell). I've done them in place of back squats for a few months and I think, if anything, I've gotten stronger in the squat. Your back is important. Take the compression off for a while.

Currently going through a similar experience. I hit my goal of single figures body fat percentages by cutting out fats, reduced carbs, and increased protein. I looked so shredded!!
Now that I've eating a higher calorie balanced diet for about a month, I have noticed my weight has increased quite a bit (I can definitely see the stretch marks returning lol) and my body fat percentage is now around 13%, but yet my abs look rock solid especially when I flex them!
The main thing I've noticed is cognitive focus has shot up massively. I would always need a calculator to work out basic maths, but now I can figure out percentages with ease and I'm a bit thrown back at the difference a bit of extra fat in my diet can do!

I have experienced the same. Yes it’s calories in and calories out but the food quality matters. If you cut out most of the processed sugars and refined carbs and omega 6 „seed oils“ that are in all of these and replace it with more animal fats you’re not nearly regaining as much water and feel more energetic and overall better on a bulk.

The bulk supports the workout. I feel like garbage while I cut, but lifting hard and heavy on a bulk feels great. IMO 17-20%BF is the sweet spot for lifting as you have plenty of "Material" to work with, feel good, and can actually eat.

Hence a good and healthy diet with regular exercise you become a new person. Avoid alcohol, avoid sugar, avoid processed foods and carbs, sleep right, It will become a lifestyle, just part of you. Your capacity of work will improve, it will just help in so many ways. I was weighting 245pds a year ago. Now i am 188 pds of solid muscle and strength. What I've just wrote is based in my own experience. Still learning and enjoying the process.

When you cut you should only do a 500 cal. reduction. Same with bulking, you should only do a 500 cal increase. It's easier to make little adjustment up or down then having to go on a large decrease in cal. for reducing. I've gain 5 lbs. in the past 2 weeks also but I'm only doing a 500 cal. increase to my maintenance calories. If I stray away from my maintenance weight too far, all I have to do is go back to my maintenance calories for about 3 days and do some walking. I've been doing some 5x1 and then 5x5's lately as an experiment for chest right now.. I've notice my strength increasing and I'm still in the same hole on my belt that I was in when I was 5 lbs. lighter. I also alternate a high carb day(200g) low fat day(30g) high protein(200g) with the following day of low carb(30g) hight fat(125g) and the same protein(200g). I lift on my high fat days. I have plenty of energy. My channel shows how I look now.

i was going to say the same thing, if you bulk at 1000kcal surplus, it's normal that you're going to get fatter, at a faster rate. With a 400-500kcal surplus, you may even put the same amount of fat and muscle, mantaining the BF percentage relatively the same (since the fat and muscles are increasing at the same rate)

I look so much more jacked with an extra 10 lbs of fat on my body. I've definitely noticed this aswell. Its honestly hard to maintain a higher body fat percentage for me, usually the only way I pull it off is if i drink half a gallon of milk a day ontop of my diet. It's mostly because my extremely physically demanding job I must burn atleast 3000 calories a day but add a weight lifting session as well.

I think you should consider RP style training, and of course find your MRV and choose sets and reps from there. I think training Yates style would be foolish as you are natural and progression and tracking would be difficult. Also I think you should have a consistant training plan as you seem to change it up far to often and I believe that has stopped you from accruing a large amount of gains.

Liquid calories digest faster than solid meals, so utilize shakes as much as possible. Having fat in your meals also slows digestion, while having fiber helps speed things through. If you keep your pre-workout meals to mostly whey shakes and a light salad, and then get the bulk of your fats and carbs in your post-workout solid meals, I think you'll feel a lot less full at the gym. And you'll probably have an easier time meeting your protein per day goals to boot.

Lucas, do not waste your time (especially when bulking, the time is super-valuable during bulking especially). The body doesn’t need more than ~1g/kg fat in the bulking (and cutting too) diet (even FDA thinks this way, and they are super-conservative), all the fat above just gets stored for 100% (well, it’s more complicated in practice, but a good approximation). Go make you a DXA scan to measure your body fat and muscles precisely every month instead of guessing (well, almost precisely, but precisely enough), do high in carbs (if you think that sugar is bad, don’t eat it - although there is no much difference: all the carbs turn into glucose in the end, and also, there is nothing too bad in having more water in the tissue too; but you can eat some “healthy” carbs instead like potato/vegetables/oatmeal/whatever, you know). And please, please, don’t associate “cookies” and “cakes” with “sugar” - in cookies, the most of the calories and unneeded nutrients come from fat, not from carbs (check nutrients).
Also, bodybuilders recommend +10% calorie surplus when bulking (like +300 Cal). You go +1000, this is an overkill. You just store fat and shorten your bulking phase without having any benefits for muscle growth (muscles do not grow that fast, they are super-slow, even that +300 Cal surplus is absorbed hardly). This is all well-studied, no unknowns there.

I've always thought you consumes too much fats imo, in relation to carbs and protein. When I was at my peak in regards to taking care of myself and lean bulking and I had discipline, I aimed for 50% carbs 30% protein 20%fats or something like that

For a new challenge you should definitely try bulgarian method for 30 days. It consist of just doing daily 1RM (without rest days) in multi-joint exercise. (Bench press, overhead press, deadlift, squat, weighted pull-ups)

The Bulgarian method is more of a meat grinder that forces all but the most genetically gifted athletes out due to overtraining and injury. It's not really a sustainable training methodology for the average iron addict that isn't trying to win gold medals for the glory of their homeland.

I started my bulk at the end of September and I am making huge strength gains rapidly and putting on a decent amount of muscle but all of the fat and I mean all of it goes straight to my stomach , nowhere else. Why is this and how long should I go for before I slim back down

You have the potential for stunning traps and neck muscles. Your pecs will follow the growth of you back on their own, it’s in your genetics.

From a physics standpoint 1k calorie surplus/day at 14 days is 14k calories. 3500 calories per lb that comes out to 4 lb. It doesn’t work out to be much water weight. Whether it’s muscle or fat it’s definitely solid weight gained. No hate just pointing out!

To the brilliant, funny and fit as f### Pigmie, I have to ask this one question: do you exercise to look your best by the pool, or to optimise your health and longevity? Cos for sure, bulking ain’t great for the latter. Be well big man.

    • @theKashConnoisseur
      @theKashConnoisseur 6 месяцев назад +1

Bulking can be great for health and longevity if an athlete is too lean to support healthy hormonal function, or if the athlete is unable to fulfill their nutrition needs on the number of calories needed to maintain an exotically lean physique. Anything between 10-20% body fat in males is going to be the sweet spot (for most) in terms of looking good, performing well, and being healthy. And so bulking and cutting within that 10-20% body fat margin is perfectly fine for health and longevity, provided it's done intelligently.
