Weird having a wire poking around in my heart I dared not move 🤣🤣🤣🤣even when I had a spasm but showed them how serious it could get for me so might put me on short list for 💔surgery 🤞with 3 months recovery ❤️‍🩹 and still be able to sail this summer I’m hopeful 🙏

    Many thanks for another informative (and entertaining) video. I sat out Storm Ashley in Bangor on my way back to Kerrera in October 2024. I prepped for Storm Eowyn similarly to you but also removed my spray dodgers to reduce windage. A faff to take off and a faff to put back……Best wishes to you both.

    • @SailingYachtSaltyLass
      @SailingYachtSaltyLass  3 дня назад +1

      I agree about the faff - that is why we left our on. On top of that, we may be redoing them this year because they have had a beating over the years. I hope Eowyn was not too bad in Kerrera.

    • @charlesbird7921
      @charlesbird7921 3 дня назад +1

      @ it wasn’t as bad as feared, the island gave some shelter from the full force of the storm. I think the extended lead time and all the warnings gave most people the chance (you being a good example), to prepare thoroughly and then batten down the hatches! It also helps having a great team at the marina who ensure we’re all safe and sound!

    Glad you made it through the blow safely. That was a good effect when the camera fell over - I thought the boat was rolling, for a second. If you can text and get internet on your phone you should be able to make a call - you just need to enable wifi calling. Cheers!

    • @SailingYachtSaltyLass
      @SailingYachtSaltyLass  3 дня назад

      It was not really an "effect" 😄, we certainly did not plan for it to happen, but Gaynor re-recorded the piece and when we watched both later during the edit process we decided to run with the original. It added more realism and an idea of what was going on. BTW, the phone networks are working again.

    As usual the Salty Lasses were prepared, unlike some, it always amazes me how other boaters just think, oh she'll be right, Not!!! Thanks for sharing what can and does happen in extreme winds, glad ur both well, love to ur mum Bev🌹

    • @SailingYachtSaltyLass
      @SailingYachtSaltyLass  4 дня назад +1

      Most of the boats were OK but there were a couple of sails that got away and only light marina damage. I think Storm Darragh sorted out the worst so when Eowyn hit most boats were ready. Mum is still on the mend but thanks for the kind words ♥

    Great video for Girl Power, well done Gaynor. I think you were very brave staying onboard in the dark on your own. Storm Lillian for us was pretty bad and I think this one looked worse. Im sure the Marina were looking out for you. I did laugh over the diesel heater however I have discovered that ours will cut off if the wind is blowing up the chuffer which can happen in a marina.

    • @SailingYachtSaltyLass
      @SailingYachtSaltyLass  3 дня назад +1

      Thanks for the reply and everyone here is saying that Éowyn was the worst storm they can remember, but it finally justified all those years of putting secondary lines on for a blow. Oddly enough, our Eber does not go out with a blow up the chuff, but we have a very long exhaust (2m) so maybe that helps and we put a swan-neck in it so to stop following seas crawling in...

    Great to see both of you back on Salty even if it was not together. Spirit came through both storms with no problems, although I noticed some chaffing on a couple of the mooring lines which I will replace in the not to distant futures.

    Well done Gaynor. Twas thinking about you while I was secure in the house. Good prep paid off and glad heater worked. Always felt safe in the boat in Liverpool Marina in storms ( nowhere strong as this one), until pontoons separated at 2 in the morning. All good fun

      Liverpool is blessed with all those high buildings around it which really help, but the mobile pontoons only add to the variety and fun....

    Well done Gaynor for getting the boat prepped and staying onboard in what was the worst storm I have ever witnessed in Northern Ireland in 70 years. Hoping for some calmer weather for you to get sailing again. Hope your Mum is getting better Bev.

    Good job. It’s a lot of work prepping without a buddy. I’ve done similar as your heater working…? You get so focused on staying aware, we over think. I’m glad you figured it out. Way too many storms these days. Take care! 🇨🇦

    • @SailingYachtSaltyLass
      @SailingYachtSaltyLass  4 дня назад +1

      I agree. It is always easier with more hands, but there always seems to be no end to the boat work. I guess the extra storms are just the way things are going to be from now on 😞

    LOL we have that heating programmer. Never read the instructions. It's either on or off up or down. Programming :-) no idea lol. We were thinking of you when storm was on. Well done.

    • @SailingYachtSaltyLass
      @SailingYachtSaltyLass  3 дня назад

      whoever wrote the instructions for that programmer had a seriously bent and twisted mind. It took about 6 goes before I got it all dialed in but it seems to be working now.

    im sure you could get some help and turn the boat 180 in the berth as is your neighbourhood then no need to remove canopy.

    • @SailingYachtSaltyLass
      @SailingYachtSaltyLass  4 дня назад

      We could have done, but it was on port quarter moving up on to the port beam so largely on the side!

  • @WavedancerWesterlyfulmar

    We also tie foresail so it can’t unfurl as extra protection

    • @SailingYachtSaltyLass
      @SailingYachtSaltyLass  4 дня назад

      we use about 6 turns of genny sheets and lock off the furling line. If it survives Eowyn I doubt there is much that will get it...

  • @WavedancerWesterlyfulmar
    @WavedancerWesterlyfulmar 4 дня назад

    Audio is fantastic. Love how easy canopy comes off frame. Ours is a pig to remove basically frame has to be removed too.
    Luckily you had extra lines on as usual. We always have full tank over winter to avoid condensation. At home the boiler doesn’t go on for few hours after refilling kerosene tank in case anything stirred up .
    Mobile might have been because of aerial further away from you going down. We lost internet for a few hours. Thankfully not badly affected this time ( verses Daragh) few branches down

    • @SailingYachtSaltyLass
      @SailingYachtSaltyLass  4 дня назад

      We perfected our audio some time ago. Basically we wear the microphones under our clothing and never waste money on "camera mics". The extra lines finally paid off after all these years, but it is interesting to hear about your home boiler having similar issues.

  • @millzee60

    • @SailingYachtSaltyLass

      We would prefer to keep the canopy in one piece!!!! But the storm certainly removed the foredeck hatch cover...😄

    • @SailingYachtSaltyLass
      @SailingYachtSaltyLass  3 дня назад

      We have been using it without issues for 5 years. When we ran out once, we saw the first traces of diesel bug, So we think that it does work. Having said that, with the amount of muck they are putting into diesel these days I would not be surprised to find all sorts of side effects happening.

    Can u do a video on marina costs

    • @SailingYachtSaltyLass
      @SailingYachtSaltyLass  4 дня назад

      We could but it would only really apply to this marina for a boat of our size, so I doubt it would be all that helpful. In addition the billing changes according to the time of year...

  • @sailingyachtmagnum
    @sailingyachtmagnum 4 дня назад +1

    Sorry but wouldn’t it have been easier to have simply folded the spray hood down with the cover on and then tighten it down?

    • @SailingYachtSaltyLass
      @SailingYachtSaltyLass  4 дня назад +1

      Easier? For sure! But we did not want to risk anything coming loose and then losing it. We saw plenty of damaged canvas work from the previous storm (Darragh) so we decided to stow it below. Taking it off was awkward but not a huge task.
