Don’t say it often enough. You are appreciated. Videos are interesting, informative, and varied in content. You make me feel like part of your family with your laid back casual dialogue. Love your family ( hi to Opie).
I got my first Class A license in 1981 in Wisconsin. Took the written test & passed & went on to take my driving test in a 1978 Ford Thunderbird. Unbelievable difference in the times, right? Went on to learn to drive truck at the hands of a couple generously experienced owner operators. Those were the days. Had 39 yrs of OTR & local jobs, including years of owning my own equipment. Not a single accident, no speeding tickets & a lot of great memories. The only state I didn't get to was Maine. Drove automatics twice & wouldn't give you a plug nickle for either one. Give me a 13 or 18 speed any day. Love your videos. Keep 'em coming. Be safe. 🙏
Got mine in the early mid 70's. Was trading my Maine license for a Louisiana license took the 20 question test for a car and got 100, asked the guy, " what does it take to get a class 1?" He said 10 more questions but since you got 100% you can get them all wrong and still get it. I think it was 10 bucks more. Was driving a Freightliner Transtar cabover with a sleeper hauling trailer loads of soda from Baton Rouge to Slidell La. the next week. Asked them to show me how to shift it and I was on my way. Just got off the road a few years ago, 1998 W9 Detroit, 18 speed, low bed. My own authority. Got my own loads. Been to all the lower states several times except N. Dakota, so 47 also. No accidents, no fines or tickets.
I think First Class is more beautiful than that new rig. I'll take the classic, working dual exhaust, no e-log, and a BIG OL KITTY under the hood over any pretty truck every day of the week. And twice on Sundays.
I'll take the Peterbilt or the KW we have always ran KW and Peterbilt first truck I ever drove 1969 Ford F600 dump truck and 1977 International Loadstar 1700 with a Truck bed camper converted to a sleep you have comfort of home on the road and cheaper than having a Sleeper made
The dummy exhaust is there because DEF will leak out of the joints on active exhaust and stain everything it toushes. Love your content and the old workhorse. Keep up the good work. 🙂
Kinda goofy? Your old workhorse will put on more miles and years in total than that new thing ever will. Thanks for another nice ride. Stay safe, and God bless.
I got my Texas Class A in 1978. Rented a Mack twin stick from Ryder, drove it 70 miles to pick up a Rentco 40' dry van, drove back 70 miles to take my driving test, dropped off my 2nd cousin who had a Illinois commercial license to ride with me to get to the driving test drove 150 miles to pick up a load.drove back 150 miles and unloaded the load. Drove the 70 miles to return the Rentco trailer and returned the Mack by 7 the next morning. After rentals and fuel still made $2200.00. Good old rate days and huge money for a 18 year old kid.
I've had to help a fellow out in a landfill because he about gave up trying to get to the pile to unload after watching the 8 try I told him I would back it up for nothing he sure appreciate it great video keep up the good work God bless from GA stay safe
So Kurt it's National Truck Driver appreciation Week! Thank You! I started driving way back in 1982. I No longer drive over the road! I just work for a county hwy dept that fixes roads and snow plow and salt and sands so all you drivers can make it to your destination! You and Opie Rock On!
When I went out with my trainer, he told me to make sure you're parked by 3 pm. He wasn't wrong. Especially on the East Coast. I don't care how well you trip plan. There is always something that messes that plan up. Traffic. Weather. Shipper/receiver. Accidents. Always have some sort of delay somewhere. My dogs gulp down big pieces of food. It's the small pieces they chew and chew and chew. Lol, good video, as always! Stay safe!
I have been trucking for over forty years and never went to school.. Got my CDL when I was eighteen and just renewed it every term ever sense... I have never taken a driving test. My employer wrote me off back in those days... But a driver told me not long ago. They took a test at the DMV and they made him double clutch... Evidently after fifty years nobody has told the DMV about synchros... They even told him how to put his foot clear to the floor on the clutch while he was moving... Nobody ever told them about clutch breaks either....
It is ridiculous isn't it. Who uses a clutch. Only for low and reverse. It's not good for the clutch transmission. The truck the power train, anything to double clutch A?Eaten thirteen or eighteen speed
The last Freightliner Cascadia 12 speed auto transmissions that I drove in 2017 was as smooth as my F-150 at home. But in the early days of the auto trans was rather entertaining to watch. I love the auto trans.
Interesting truck there in the beginning of the vid. As a local day run driver, I'm grateful to rarely be in the truck stops, and for my 18 speed manual
HEY KURT FANTASTIC VIDEO MAN YOU KNOW EVERYONE HAS BEEN NEW & TRAINED AT SOME POINT ! MUCH RESPECT FOR NEWBIES THEY DID GREAT ! BE BLESSED BE SAFE ! YOU ARE THE BEST !! 🇺🇸🇺🇸I WILL TAKE YOUR TRUCK OVER A NEW ONE ANY DAY OF THE WEEK ! 🐾🐾🐾❤️🐾🐾🐾🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏
It wasn't you're choice, Opie demands it and the German gets what he wants.😂Big truck's rule! You can tell a new driver. 'dry dog food gives me gas, Dad.'🤫
I'd take that W900 any day. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to drive truck with my dad and an older brother in 1975 after I graduated from high school. My career after that was being a underground laborer and then eventually a heavy equipment operator. In the 90's I was finally able to get my class A license and drove part time during the winter months when I wasn't working in construction. My favorite truck was a T600 with the couch and bunk. I'm retired now in South East Arizona, and to tell the truth, I kinda miss driving because of the alone time I enjoyed out on the road.
The reason for a weed burner is the DEF stains the chrome on the stacks. So it’s a lot easier to keep chrome nice when they never heat up. Even on a true exhaust most of the smoke comes out of one pipe.
Yes, Roadmaster is a Werner training school. That truck stop is always so crowded. As far as the ELD goes, as soon as the truck starts rolling greater than 5mph, it jumps to the drive line unless you are in yard move mode. You can only run 20 mph or less in yard mode.
Our dog Otis loves the big M . When we drive close to them he gets so excited and will not even look at me when I don't stop so he can get his cheese burger. He loves the fries to.
We have 2 Freightliners with automatics that are like riding a bucking horse when backing up. Backing straight isn't so bad but cutting wheels tight feels almost like the brakes are on. And with a smooth bore tanker it gets the slosh and surge action going big time and that just makes it worse. I'll gladly take the 10 and 13 speed manuals over the autos any day.
Nice Pete but honestly, no way I would trade a pre emission W9 for a new truck. Buying one is the cheap part. I had one of the last pre emission 379's 6NZ Cat, it was a beast, but the drivers seat doesn't line up with the steering wheel and the sleepers leave a lot to be desired. The W9 can't be beat. I think they're better looking especially when they still have the 7 vertical bars on the grill, hint hint. a lot of Love's are pretty small and on the east coast hill country there are some I couldn't get in the entry they were so steep, even coming in at an angle.
As Warden would say "Your a Dork" Kurt I'm like you on the truck Yes it looks good, but I'm not into the slammed trucks. I'm close to 70 grew up on Hank Sr. Merle and Patsy, trucks back then were chromed out sorta, no grass burnnin exhaust. P.S. Those truck school trucks and trailers are ex Werner equipment. You truck safe Sir.
First Class will always be by far the nicest truck around. I can't believe the fake pipes. They need to be functional stacks. Can't wait for the day I get to drive a W900 with an 18 spd.
If they’re feeding Americans. I don’t judge, everything is against us we gotta kinda stick up for each other. But like you I have my opinions. 2 nice rides. Keep at it sir!!!!!!🇺🇸
Yes, Roadmaster is Werner Enterprises' own truck driver training school...and beeping before backing is drilled into your head at Werner.....I and my daughter used to drive for them for about a year and a half
Talking about jumping trucks in reverse, I back a lady driver’s truck up into a spot that she was having trouble with. It had an automatic transmission and couldn’t believe how jumpy it was. Had to push throttle more than I’m used to to get the truck to move. When it did it was moving faster than I wanted it to move. I’m retired, but the company that I drove for now buys only automatics. Personally in icy conditions, I would rather have control over shifting than the truck doing it for me. As for the trash at truck stops, that always did bug me. I’ve been in truck stops where it was so bad behind the trailer that you could hardly walk. Absolutely uncalled for. Id always pickup trash and return carts if I parked at a Walmart. I felt that if they were kind enough to let us park there then we should keep it clean.
Thank you for that beautiful video man I would like to see more video on that my name is Freddy but they call me rubber duck that's my handle on the CB radio I'm so honoured to have you to watch your video man is very interesting I would like to see more of your project they're your biggest friend was new to you now be safe from the shout-out to my doggies out there and my all my brothers and sisters 10-4 in the Convoy
I’m in foodservice delivery with PFG. Let me say, some of the nicest trucks I’ve seen were in our yards. I came to the conclusion you reefer boys got some money!
@Trucking With Schmidt it's funny how different people go off on a stretched out truck. I'm a trucker and my W900 has a 267 inch wheel base. I ordered my truck this way back in 1999. There are things I wish I would have done differently back then including the wheel base. I later had a 290 inch truck and after I started driving that truck I realized I could get around just as easy as the 267 inch truck. I just recently have leased on to a new company. They wanted me to do a road test in their 300 inch truck. I handled it with ease! I have a brother who has no trucking experience and he wants little short day cab trucks for the family farm. Our farm is out here in Western Kansas where we are blessed with lots of space. He wants short trucks so he can get around easier.😒
No Kurt, you wouldn't have to live in that kind of truck to be able to afford it, you just couldn't take 4 months off plus 2 or 3 week vacations or work short work weeks. You might have to run M~F, before long you won't have any school functions to attend either to take time off for. But I don't really see the point of stretching a frame other than a little better ride but it only makes the truck more difficult to back into docks with tight customer lots specially with a short turning radius of the W900.
When I had my trucking company I bought 5 trucks with weed burner exhausts.. got stacks IMMEDIATELY.. I ran off road with my trucks too much. Afraid of starting a fire
I've been doing this 33 yrs. Driver when we my gsd and I grow up. We want to be just like you. Funny when we stick it in the wind we do the cheese burgers thing too. Lol other wise we eat in the truck.
I had an auto trans when I was with Millis, you put it in drive or reverse, let off the brake and it moves smooth as butter. He must have been dumping a clutch or something, beats me
liked your video you seem like an old school driver like me. ive never done otr always been local, home every night. mostly low boy heavy haulin. just wanted to say whats up to an old school driver!
Best part of retirement is never having to go to a loves again!
@BrandonLeech no truck stop is fun or cool to hang at lol

Parallel parking in a semi is a lost art. Heck, backing is lost art. I will always pride myself on my backing ability. Not bragging, just good at it.
I hauled trash trailers for a living before I retired and you really learned to backup especially when it rains and your sliding all over
Hell 80% out here don't even have lane control ! probably clueless to what it even is.
There is enough room in the USA for all of our trucks. God bless all of us truckers !!!
nice dog buddy
That's a beautiful old dog you have there. I can't blame you for spoiling him.😊
Massive respect for truckers. God bless
Kurt and Opie, always look forward to your videos
Much respect tp you guys running the big rigs.

Ol skool rules anything from the mid 70's to late 80's I really like, Kurt definitely has a beautiful w9.
@williambillwaynerobertson930 Yes he does!!
That’s what I got. 70 W900 single bunk. Working every day. Wouldn’t trade it for anything.

'dry dog food gives me gas, Dad.'🤫
You and the German have a good safe trip ❤
I still love your original genuine truck.
Good catch on the weed burner.
I'd take that W900 any day. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to drive truck with my dad and an older brother in 1975 after I graduated from high school. Hello, new listener and subscriber from Wyoming. Love the road trips footage, awesome vibes❤
Great video again loved it.

correct
Yes, on the auto trans. If you turn on the inter axle lock while back it will help cut down the jumping factor.
Great job tks
Kurt first class is a beautiful truck. I don't think you need anything else. You keep her clean, you drive her nice and she takes care of you!
you're a good dad!!
You're awesome Kurt I think you oughta be a truck driving school teacher 😂
Good work Kurt and Opie
You couldn't pay me enough to run that peterbilt, first class on the other hand that's a whole different story!
I love your old work horse
You got a nice truck bubba that's old school 👍
First class is awesome ❤❤
And the ELD, yes. Even if you are not moving and go to off duty, your shift time is still counting down in the ELD.
Our dog Otis loves the big M . When we drive close to them he gets so excited and will not even look at me when I don't stop so he can get his cheese burger. He loves the fries to.
What a good puppy. I would ride with that puppy anytime.
Paper logs are the best, you drive when you are not tired i drive at night most of the time.
Don't knock it.I love to have your work horse. Damn nice truck you got there ,,
your a class act Kurt.
Hi from Winnipeg Murdertoba Canada..I like your channel :D
American truck drivers don`t wear turbins like Canfuckitstan lol :D
I like your style Schmidt!
Sorry, but I like your truck better. Thanks for sharing ! Have a blessed day !
I gotta say it ....german shepherds are the best!!!
OPIE IS JUST TO ROTTEN OMGOSH !! BUT I WOULD NOT HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY !! ❤️❤️❤️🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾

Looks like Opie back leg is starting to limp check him out
I appreciate this content. Most of us are so cynical with each other. Almost hoping to see each other fail. 🎉
Love the German!

Nice trucks ❤
Yes...Mr. Kurt....maybe War Horse but it's a general!⭐⭐⭐⭐
Hey Kurt Dalton here been MIA awhile been busy as crap. Hope all is well.
First Class will always be by far the nicest truck around. I can't believe the fake pipes. They need to be functional stacks. Can't wait for the day I get to drive a W900 with an 18 spd.
Hey Kurt,
You are right. Those autos are jumpy as a rabbit. I've driven them. 😮🤔
Fun video.
RS. Canada
I love Opie so much
If they’re feeding Americans.
A sleeper is no what you have if you can fit comfortably 😊
Thanks Kurt!
The paper log book is the best way.
Talking about jumping trucks in reverse, I back a lady driver’s truck up into a spot that she was having trouble with. It had an automatic transmission and couldn’t believe how jumpy it was. Nope I like / love your KENWORTH 😊❤ . Your truck is better.
I attended Southwest Community College truck driving school in Creston, Iowa. The school itself in Lamoni, Iowa in 1988. We trained in Pete cabovers

As a company driver ...I am home 3 days a week ...yet I still feel like I live in my truck ..😅
@Trucking With Schmidt it's funny how different people go off on a stretched out truck. I'm a trucker and my W900 has a 267 inch wheel base. I ordered my truck this way back in 1999. Our farm is out here in Western Kansas where we are blessed with lots of space. He wants short trucks so he can get around easier.😒
It may be a thing a shorter truck will fit onto a platform scale where a longer wheel based truck would not.
Yes Every minute while on the clock until u get off
When I had my trucking company I bought 5 trucks with weed burner exhausts.. got stacks IMMEDIATELY.. I ran off road with my trucks too much. Afraid of starting a fire
When I trained my brother, I had him back up in a Figure 8 until he got the hang of it 😂
Treat time for Opie.
Yes I had a company FL with and auto shift and it jumped in reverse too...
I've been doing this 33 yrs. Driver when we my gsd and I grow up. We want to be just like you. Funny when we stick it in the wind we do the cheese burgers thing too. Lol other wise we eat in the truck.
BIGG BOSS K-DUBB!!!!!! 😎🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🇺🇸💎🏆🥇💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰
I had an auto trans when I was with Millis, you put it in drive or reverse, let off the brake and it moves smooth as butter. He must have been dumping a clutch or something, beats me
Nothing wrong with an old work horse. I have been with mine for 46 years now.
Old school best always
I luv Opie
Roadmaster is tied in with Warner. That is the number 1 puppy mill. I would know thats where I went 3 years ago in fontana california 🙃
liked your video you seem like an old school driver like me. ive never done otr always been local, home every night. mostly low boy heavy haulin. just wanted to say whats up to an old school driver!
