      If you're afraid of crashing due to a jump, then yes, you are in fact afraid of jumping that specific jump because you think if you jump it you're going to crash

      2 years ago ... I was in a race, I got the holeshot but in the first jump I fell off the bike, everyone who came after me passed me and one of them hit me with the bike footrest on my head , leaving me unconscious for a few hours, a month after the championship started and we had to go to train, everything was perfect, but of course, I was afraid of falling and that something would happen ... in the last training heat I fell, and lasted 1 minute without being able to breathe, then I just got sleepy and fell asleep, when I woke up I was off the track and they told me that I was like dead, that I didn't breathe or had any signs of life, after that my dad was so scared about everything that happened... we decided that we were going to leave the races... 2 years later, today my father called me and said he was going to buy a 2019 kx100 so that I could race again and the emotion I felt at that time was... something inexplicable, something incredible... Well that was my story... nothing more to say

      Yea now I just do little jumps and little wheelies. Maybe it's a confidence thing, but for my purposes the risk of huge air and pushing the limits is not worth the reward. I don't race, I just ride bikes for fun, and going to the hospital is the last thing I want.

    • @the2strokepotato17
      @the2strokepotato17 4 года назад +7

      @@smith8124 isn't that the idea of running groups though? Stick the fast experts together so they can all tare about without having to worry about having a pleg in the way. Stick all beginners or casual riders in a Novice group where no one is hitting the big doubles or massive jumps. That way everyone can go at their own pace whether that be 1st or 2nd gear plodding in a Novice group or 5th gear pinned clearing every jump in experts.
      The biggest idiots though are when either slow people go with the fast people and get in the way just so they can say they ride with the experts or when fast people ride with the beginners just so they can be the fastest.
      Its better to have people riding to their ability. Theres no point calling someone a pussy, pushing then beyond their limits, having them break their neck and then the local track closes down because people keep fucking themselves there... No one jumps on a mx bike thinking its safe. Its just weighing up whats the better idea. A) Going home after a fun days riding with the plan to go out again and improve your riding the following weekend. B) Sending it on the big ass jump knowing you can't land it, potentially breaking your spine or femur and never riding again all for a practice day.

    Good tips! I'd like to add another. Fear is mental when you just think about an obstacle, jump etc you tend to psych yourself out. I find that if I "Literally" talk to myself (if my helmet was wired you'd hear me talking) as I approach a section and through the jump, it gets me over the jump vs psyching myself out. When I say talking I mean giving myself directions as to hitting my marks as I approach and execute the jump. This builds my confidence and once I've done it a few times I no longer need to talk through it.

    Great advice on the five attempts rule, Im 48 and got back into racing after a long hiatus and couldn't believe how steep the jumps now we're at the local pro-national style practice tracks. They require 3rd gear pinned on my 350sxf to clear which was intimidating at first but the best decision I made was not to relive past glory on my first few times back and build confidence. Also watching the fast guys when they blow by you on the obstacles you're trying to figure out is useful because you see in real-time the commitment needed to safely negotiate some of that big or technical stuff.

Also a tow works good whether you follow strait over it behind or shut it down and watch the flight path of the rider in front then hit it next lap. Love the videos.

    Get over the triple trees, elbows up, balls of feet on pegs, take a deep breath, grab a hand full and spout "freedom" as you sail over the entire section/obstacle!
    If things are clear off to one side or the other, just land there first, if you aren't confident in what's going on. Before long you'll KNOW that you can do it. You'll dream it, and then wake up ready to do it. The desire will override the fear and excitement will be there result.
    Also, keeping a slightly nose high attitude (front wheel, that is) will be better, if you come up a bit short. But the real fix is to just go faster!
    I always hear beginners letting off the gas, right before they hit a jump.. and i always see them riding too far back on the seat or feet too far forward on the pegs.
    All are the exact opposite of what should be happening.

    Hey man can you do a video on different types of jump faces (steep, gradual, etc) and how to navigate those?

  • @JOHNNYGIX
    @JOHNNYGIX 5 лет назад

    The biggest issue I see with trail riders or new riders working on jumps is they lean too far back and lock their arms straight as they go up the face (front end high). You want to remain neutral on the bike (helmet over the bars) all the way up the jump face and the bike will feel light in the air. Like Johnny says, lean into it. Not away. Helmet over the handlebars at all times is the best tip to give new riders, that's the neutral balance point of the bike whether you're turning or jumping. My trainer always called the bar pad 'the office'. Always stay in your office!! Nice vid Johnny!

    This was a great help after an old man trying to get in the saddle. I had a guy land in my back in the last race I was in, 1986, Ya, I am that old. Heard him laughing at me, I got up, picked his bike up and threw it off the track. Last time I jumped anything over 2' tall (on purpose). Got a deal on an 06 YZ250 w/Gorr 295 kit in pristine condition, going to give it a try again.

    You are 100% correct do in five try's or try another day. I have riders follow me over jumps this way they have the correct speed. And I always tell them to look where they want to land.

    I'm 62 ex-racer and just getting back into riding - a TTR125 play bike which is not ideal for an adult.Watching pros on a supercross practice track it actually looks rather smooth and relaxing. The landings are smooth and the corners are banked. I only wish I had a track like that to ride on even at my age. But take out the whoop section.

    I been riding since I was 7, but always bush riding, I feel jumping Is a skill best learned when young and I only rode MX tracks a handful of times, I can do small jumps to flat but I did try a double once which didn't go too bad but the landing was rough and just felt like I had no control over the bike while in the air and definitely wasn't able to push the front end down..

      I rode 5 days this past week ranging from 3-6hrs a day at the track, every time I strayed away from my correct riding posture I went down. When trying to push myself harder I went down. It’s the way it goes if you want to get good you’ll go down if you’re scared you’ll go down. Riding streetbikes instilled into me that if you don’t trust yourself you’ll fall hands down.
      If you want to be great at anything you have to trust yourself, we know what the bike will do because it’ll only do what we tell it to do so when you trust yourself knowing “hey I’m gonna ride the berm then clear this tabletop” if you go into that whole section confident you’ll find yourself in no time being able to clear the whole track in no time.
      If you have self confidence it’ll go a long way and if you think about the bad that can happen it’ll happen. So when you go to the track take 5-10 laps to clear your head and gradually pick up the pace for the whole track, if you find yourself getting tired or have a close cal; then pick a line and cruise for a couple laps to clear your head. Last thing lol is when I ride street or dirt I either sing to myself or just focus on my breathing idk why it calms me down and really makes me focus on what’s in front of me; I know this is a long comment but I hope you get some ideas from it!
