      Yes. No fun. Please, please make sure you install a new power steering pump reservoir. That is ridiculously important. Cleaning the reservoir is not a good idea because of the flow direction and the filtration pathway.
      Good luck and I hope all goes well for you.

    I had to comment again, had to. Your trick to get the pump screws started and then rotate the spring coupler until it snaps in place worked wonders for me. I was loosing my mind trying to get it to click and no luck. Came back to your video once again and voila!! Thanks a lot for the video!! Runs like a charm now. I cleaned really good the reservoir as you said and kept the return hose on my bucket and had a funnel on the intake to do a good purge. Some foam as you said after but all good!

    Thanks very sim to my 3.2 xc90 SE 2007 helped a great deal, in replacing a snapped belt and compressor didn't need to loosen the fuse box or ABS unit as there's more room in the engine bay on the XC90 tractor!! Access to the small torx pulley bolts was a pain but a WERA mini racket is just the job.

    I thought your video was very helpful. I ended having to remove more components (brackets) to get the pump out once disconnected but otherwise, this video was a good source. What a chore. took me about 5 hrs total. probably spent 30 mins on the two small screws on the pump pulley!. the engine still runs fantastic but all the other components are starting to fail. I am changing my belt and pulleys on my land.rover now. ALL the bolt to do this job seem like they are in a horrible spot! I had to use wrenches on almost all of them and only like 1/8 to 1/4 turns at a time. I literally have at least an hour and a half just backing bolts out! It's so frustrating and tedious! Lol If this ever needs fixed again I think I'll just sell the car, pretty bad to say for only needing a tensioner pulley and belt. This video was a HUGE help tho thank you! I watched it 3 times lol I still have to put it all back together.. 😨

      @@A_Renaissance_Man indeed. I took note of your comment and cleaned it with brake fluid. I should finish tomorrow or sometime in the weekend. Was stuck waiting for the alignment pin that had to be ordered as the remanufactured pump didn't come with one and I was planning to recycle it but to buy surprise it was missing. I bought the XC90 recently, one owner, relatively low mileage 120km but needs a lot of love to be like my showroom like 06 S80. I was dreaming with an XC90 and was forced to get it after my beloved 05 XC70 was written off by insurance at only 145km and amazing shape. I must say I would go back to my 05 XC70 in a heartbeat. Not fond of the Ford influence, let alone the lack of power of the 3.2 engine to move such a car. Anyway, very thankful for your guidance!

    Why couldn't you take an extra half minute to point out where the mounting points are on the power steering pump while you're showing at the first time instead of leaving it until the last because I don't know if you know or not but in my instance I have to take it off first. On the XC90 you pretty well have to take the whole car apart and dig into the firewall to get to the power steering pump. Way in at the back underneath the braking system. Very difficult to see and very difficult to reach. It would be a luxury to be shown the location of the mounting points before you start taking it apart.

    My car is having a power steering leak that the power steering reservoir level goes from max to min in 60miles. The hose connecting the reservoir to the pump is damp on both ends and pooling of power steering oil above the transmission cover seen from top down.
    Any idea where the power steering leak is?

    • @A_Renaissance_Man
      @A_Renaissance_Man  9 месяцев назад +1

      I have not had to deal with power steering leaks on Volvos but, on BMWs it was always, always the hoses. That is also a simple and easy fix. I highly recommend a new power steering reservoir as the filter inside becomes clogged and starves the pump of fluid. That is very common on Volvos.

    Hey I know it's been awhile but I'm having to do this job myself. I wanted to know what tools you used (mostly just what size of wrenches and sockets and such). It's definitely the biggest job I've had to take on yet for this car but it needs to be done. Thanks!

    • @A_Renaissance_Man
      @A_Renaissance_Man  Год назад

      Thank you for asking and trusting my response. The very first thing you must do is replace the power steering reservoir. Spend the $70-80 and get a new one. Then see if everything is working properly and you will save yourself both time and money. Flushing the system would be nice but is not necessary. Most of the time that is the problem.
      As a matter of fact the replacement in this video was unnecessary. The tools are quite common 10-17mm sockets and wrenches. The time to do this job is outrageous. Removing items to access the pump is ridiculous. Feel free to ask questions. Call L&B Auto and see if they have a used one you can save 2-3 hundred dollars easily.

Yes, I will admit I wasted all that money and time by throwing parts at a problem before properly figuring out what was really going on. I will also warn you that the reservoir appeared to be working properly because some fluid was allowed to pass through but, the pump was starved. I hate to admit this but, the problem was the reservoir not the PS pump. The screen in the reservoir was all clogged up and this job was a waste of my time and money.

    really stupid design and engineering, to make the engine compartment small they jam everything and DIY is much harder than it should be
