This young lady has to be the best American Idol singer hands down. I can't see how she can miss becoming one of the most successful winners. Also have to say her Lovesong rendition was another highlight for me.
+Ralph Ross Agreed. Easily the BEST vocalist Idol has introduced. Unfortunately, the music industry is far more concerned about complete marketability. Apparently she has just not been "marketable" enough or has not found the right combo of people to make her more marketable! It sucks to see someone so talented not be extremely successful! I'm hoping we eventually hear more from her.

@@devonconway996Absolutely. Candice is a rare breed of not only singer but of faith as well. Remember how they said she died at one point, she wouldn’t sell her soul so they didn’t want her to prosper. It sucks because she’s genuinely and massively talented

My All Time Favorite Winner on American Idol.
This is my favorite interpretation of this song. I adore Jordan Sparks, and I love Haley Reinhart, and I don't even know Candice Glover (never saw this season). But this is still my fave. Jordan's is wistful, Haley's is desperately longing, but Candace's is hurt-but-surviving. That's the feeling I get from it. Like she's saying, "I love you, and you should come back because no one will love you like I do, but I'm still standing." And I love that message.

The way Candace Glover took command of the stage with her voice, facial expressions and body language was masterful. 8 years later this performance still gives me chills. She's definitely one of the greatest winners on American Idol!

The minute I saw this I knew she deserved to win.
Over the decades, I have heard many renditions of 'I, I Who Have Nothing.' Despite more than a few comments that were unfavorable below, Candice Glover is an incredible singer, whose voice is as silky smooth and hypnotically complex as her rendition of this haunting song of raw emotion--the quintessentially best that I have ever heard by anyone who has ever previously sung it--hands down. Young and talented Ms. Glover knows how to modulate her voice with precision and control, no matter what octave she hits--and, clearly she can hit them all, to perfect effect! Where, in the name of all that is holy, that anyone has found even minor fault with her voice is completely off caliber, and must have been listening to something altogether different. That, or they weren't paying close attention to the beautiful extensions and gorgeous quality of her extreme range, vocal discipline and control. Also, Candice does not mistake volume for tone, and her vocal quality is one of the best that I have heard since Adele's debut album, '19.' Likewise, Adele knows how to control her vocal chords, with a clarity and range that could silence church bells. In the past, singers and song stylists like the great Nancy Wilson and Marilyn McCoo (of Fifth Dimension fame), were also born with perfect pitch and vocal quality that remains the standard for breathtaking performances that can never--and will never be forgotten. In closing, it never ceases to stun me how too many online comments are able to find fault with some of the best examples of perfection in vocal tone, range and quality, where my critical and discerning ear has always been able to define--to exacting standards in vocal excellence. Alas, I wonder just how many people who've wrongly criticized Ms. Glover can even carry a simple tune (and one that stays on key), with even a modest effort of clarity, pitch, tone and brilliance--the way Ms. Glover has perfected this hauntingly beautiful song--to eternal, unrivaled perfection!
I too have heard this sang live, many many times! NO ONE has ever performed it better. To be able to sing and be deliberate and spontaneous at the same time..and still sound awesome..really must be nice

Her talent is beyond extraordinary, and I can't wait to see and hear what other songs she is able to transform into singular perfection, as only the young and gifted Ms. Glover can! Recently, my university English teacher happened to read one of my random posts about EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER, a fine group from the 1970s with a hit entitled, 'From The Beginning.' It's my all time favorite song (among many other favorites like Ms. Glover's rendition of 'I,' naturally), because the words are so powerful in their simplicity--but convey so much. When my teacher contacted me, she praised my writing skills online with great sincerity, and then offered to recommend a publisher for a book that I am in the middle of writing. Because of that recent post, I now have a publisher for my nonfiction book. Social media never rewarded me so abundantly! Thank you for sharing, and for your kind words.

It's not easy keeping a discography committed to random memory, but somehow (and against the odds), I always seem to manage to pull out the big guns in music, especially when I recommend a singer, group or band from yesteryear. However, I must always remind myself that there is a much younger generation that was born a few decades after my day of prominent creation (a bohemian child of the early 1960s), whose pitch perfect ear for all musical genre (and vast record collection) was bigger than an Amazon.com warehouse! I could rattle off so many great singers from that idyllic era, like Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, The Mamas And The Papas, Neil Young, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Don McClean, Cat Stevens, Karen Carpenter, Todd Rundgren, and too many others to name in this brief post. Now, since I like all music, I haven't even begun to tell you about my favorite selections in classical, jazz, soul, R&B, pop, contemporary, etc., because that would fill a few journals at the very least. But, one good thing about the internet is that many of these songs are accessible on RUclips, and also available for purchase in CD format, or iPod (which absolutely destroyed the music industry--but that's another story for discussion sometime later). Music is my core nucleus, and the world merely serves as a conduit to anything worth my time and interest that falls outside of my daily need for great music. No matter where I am, there is music--which keeps me sane, focused, grounded, content, happy and reasonable. In closing, I have always maintained that there is only one success: To live a free life on all terms that are self-prescribed. Therefore, I wish the very same to you and your friends, family and loved ones everywhere, for music to reign supreme as a nourishing part of their lives and yours, for personal freedom and enrichment to always prevail. In future, I would be happy to recommend a variety of musical selections to you for your complete listening pleasure. Until then, all the best of everything!

I have watched Haley's Performance, Jordan's Performance & I have to say Candice is the only one that Transformed this song into her OWN. Like She was the original artist that should have recorded this. Now THAT Ladies & Gentlemen IS A GIFT!

I fell in love with this song when Jordin Sparks did it for the first time. Then Haley Reinhart came and added some flavor to this song with her sexy Janis Joplin-esque voice. I still preferred Jordin's version, but only slightly. Then came Candice's two versions which surpassed both of my faves by miles.
