    The Horus/Amaris plug in had me rolling. The Amaris Civil war/fall of the Star League and Horus Heresy have a lot in common. Both of them really screwed up their respective universe's. As for the Orion, good overall heavy mech. The newer versions are great; good balance of heat dissipation and fire power. The 3025 on the other hand, oh boy! You can get in one Alpha strike, after that, watch the heat.

    Love the Orion on tabletop. And the 3050 upgrades are probably my favorite for normal play. It hits respectively, has good armor, and decent survivability. Solid mech in my opinion.

      Indeed, a good workhorse mech that does its job.

      Agreed it is a great heavy mech that is useful in almost every battlefield situation or environment while being effective at all ranges. One of my favorite Inner Sphere mechs.

    A solid contender in the categories of durability, firepower, and 'ugliest 'Mech in the universe'. The Orion is a perfect example of what you get when military people build a machine for fighting. No fancy curved panels, no space wasted, just a well-armored weapon platform.

    • @meshuggahshirt
      @meshuggahshirt Год назад

      It's old, ugly, groundbreaking for its day, famously easy to keep running without proper servicing and maintenance, never out of production, a Russian's signature weapon, and it can still kill you stone dead if used effectively.
      The Kalashnikov of heavy Mechs.

    The Orion is another solid performer. Short range, long range, medium range, it can cover them all. Just make sure you can keep the ammo hoppers full or you'll be stuck with only a pair of medium lasers.
    The Orion IIC is even better, but good luck convincing Clan Wolf to let you have one. They regard them as holy symbols and will not give them up without a scrap.

    This is an old favorite of mine!
    The excellent balance of the weapon types and high amounts of armor, make it a joy to use!
    I use it for a frontal attack that is sure to keep the enemy too busy trying to survive, to be able stop my jump capable Mechs from getting to the rear arcs!
    This, then is the anvil of the Heavy Mechs, to the hammer of my Medium Mechs!
    As always, GDN has done a great job!!!

    I like the Orion, but I normally only use it as a indirect fire support unit, removing the AC10 and SRMs to make room for additional LRMs and dropping its armor to house enough reloads to keep it fighting multiple engagements without resupply. Though it does have some armor and the 2 medium lasers for close engagement but only as it pulls back out of line of sight. Its often use in replacement for a catapult if the tonnage is available, and both of my fire support mechs will be defined by what ever I can afford for weight. That is unless I have heavier mechs that can do just as well as fire support as well as boast best armor and if needed close engagement weapons. Say like the Highlander

  • @traviscochran6280

    I like the armor protection on the Orion. Like the Thunderbolt it has rhino hyde and a weapon for every occasion. Defiantly a volley fire mech. It does seem to be prone to ammo explosions though. When playing a Free Worlds force I had 3 of them go up in 2 different battles.

    Ah! Yes, it was also one of General Kerenskis favorite battlemechs. One can see in the Atlas battlemech that Kerenski designed very similar features and weapons hard points. Most notably the location of the auto-cannon and the missile racks. The clans still have these, but they are usually handed out as gifts, they are much too old to be of use within the clan Toumen. But because the Orion was revered by Kerenski and ALL the Clans revere Kerenski these battlemech are maintained in pristine condition.
    The clans did however redesign and rebuild some Orions and thus was born the Orion 2C and even more powerful and deadly clan refit of the venerable and ancient battlemech, outfitted with new clan technology and what a beast it is.

    GrimDark…. I don't mean to question you, but you noted that the contract winner was "General Mechanics" or "GM"..... are you sure it's not "General Motors"? The Blackjack and Marauder were also produced by "GM" (noted in the 3025/3050 techical readouts) and the Blackjack details specify "General Motors" as the manufacturers....or am I hearing/reading my readouts incorrectly? Were there two separate manufacturers? General Motors AND General Mechanics?

    • @GrimDarkNarrator

      Might've mixed up those two. However, General Motors and General Mechanics BOTH exist in the Battletech universe.

    Great video, however there is an issue when you talk about mechs in these videos: you said that the pictures dont always represent the variant, but we need sth. to tell us when it is/isn't representative.

    • @GrimDarkNarrator
      @GrimDarkNarrator  3 года назад

      Not very helpful, but usually when there's a picture representing the actual variant, i switch to the picture right as I say its name. Otherwise I just use a picture over multiple variants. I can't do it every time, but I try whenever i have pictures of the variant and descriptions of the variant.

    I hate the Orion. Objectively, it's a superb design even in its 3025 guise, but it just isn't fun to play with in my opinion, something really jarring about it. I'll gladly pick an Archer or a Marauder over it any time. Something about the design doesn't gel for me and my playing style.
