That's why i always strap as much armor on it as possible. The best thing about Atlas is it is going to be in every game. It is the most iconic mech followed by the MadCat.
Ease of access is also why the Catapult is my fav mech. I can always find one easily. I'm never succeed in convincing people to give me a Yu Huang or Lao Hu.

It's a good day. Playing Rogue Tech, using my heavily modified K4, while listening to GDN talk about the Atlas!
Pro's; massively armed and armoured. When you absolutely need to be able to dish out the pain, and receive it, this is the Mech for you.
Con; God, this thing is slow! Heat management and ammo consumption can also be a problem. Even after all this time, still one of the deadliest Mechs on the battlefield.

@ValorJ Omega In a city is where the Urbie, Demolisher and SRM Carriers excel. In the open, they are nothing but targets. In a city though, if they get behind you, your not going to live long enough to regret your life decisions, no matter how big a mech your piloting.

    Hello grim.
As I have said before, I used the Mech Design Rules incorporated into the rules book to create my own Mech Variants and designs. One of these was the IR-MN 1. The IR-MN-1, or 'Iron Man' Mech was a total departure from 'standard' Mech design. It was designed to be a 'city fight' Mech design, to protect urban environments efficiently. Thus, the design rules of the game were used to make such a Mech.
The Iron Man was a 100 ton Mech, loosely based upon the Atlas frame design. But other than the massive amounts of armor, and relative slow speed, was a totally new design. The Mech was powered, not by a Fusion Engine, but a very large Internal Combustion Engine (ICE). This alone meant that the Mech was very 'cool' in nature, but just as fast as it's cousin, the Atlas. Armored with the maximum possible amount of Ferro-Fiberous Armor, it was well protected indeed.
For additional mobility, the IR-MN-1 also mounted three jump jets to allow it to maneuver both vertically, and horizontally around obstacles it could encounter in a damaged, or ruined, city environment.
The design was armed with 20 MGs feeding out of 2 tons of ammo. It also mounted 10 Small Lasers. Since the design was powered by ICE, most Mechs overlooked it in a city setting... misidentifying it as a 'statue', or some sort of similar structure with only power enough to flash lights and shoot off fireworks for city celebrations.
The shock of finding the Iron Man unit behind you, 'sandpapering' off your rear armor so that the multiple small lasers could 'core' your Mech was, in most cases, a lethal one that few survived to warn others of. To further the deception, the Iron Man would stand upon one half of a circular turntable mounting, with the other half taken up by a wall and the a fore mentioned 'party time statue'.
In combat, the Iron Man would be rotated into the building's interior and thus obscured from sensors and 'hidden' by the huge 'statue' facing outwards into the street or plaza. Even if a foe 'wasted' firepower on the statues (they were 'encouraged' to do so, since the statues were programmed to 'fire' their lights and fireworks when a Mech was close enough), they would not destroy the hidden Iron Man behind the reinforced wall.
After the Enemy Mech would advance past the now ruined statue, the turntable would rotate, exposing the Iron Man, which would step off the platform and advance to point blank range for it's attack. Thus practically coring the foe's machine in one Alpha Strike. After which, the Iron Man would return to it's turntable to be rotated back into hiding, or allowed to advance behind the enemy's Mechs to close and backstab some more.
The Assault Class Jump Jets let the Mech soar over smaller buildings, or maneuver around corners much faster than either walking or running, and the Mech never failed to instill fear as 100 tons of death would appear in the rear facing camera arrays of the enemy's targeting system.
The addition of TSM to the design merely let this massive Mech shatter smaller foes, weakened by the massed fire of MGs and small lasers, and the Mech itself carried enough armor to weather enemy fire easily while it closed to close combat ranges.
Needless to say, this Mech design was also 'banned' by my Playing Group as being too weird to use, and just plain too nasty to fight inside city environments. Especially if given time to 'update' enough buildings to have 'Mech Bay' like doors... Enough that the number of such 'doors' would outnumber the Mechs defending by about 8 to 1. Since any such building would have at least four such doors, spaced along all it's sides, even if an Iron Man were within the building, it most likely would have an exit route to escape the collapse of the building due to enemy fire. Or, with the Enemy's Mechs thus distracted, the Iron Man would just charge into close combat range, Alpha Strike with all it's weapons, and then Punch or Kick the damaged Mech it faced and run off, or Jump away further into the depths of the City.
Oh, filling at least a few buildings with the 'Party Time' mechs statues, instead of Iron Man units, would 'lull' the foe into a sense of confidence that the doors were designed merely to allow such statues to be housed out of the elements until the next city wide celebration. So, after finding 2 or 3 such statues, they might ignore such 'Mech Bays', allowing surprise charges into close combat and alpha striking to occur with horrific surprise to the pilots of the enemy Mechs.
If memory serves me rightly, the Internal structure and Gyros were 'standard' designs. So really, the only 'expensive' part of the design was it's TSM and Ferro-Fiberous Armor. I cannot recall if I added 'one-shot' missiles as well, but I may have done so. It was so long ago, that memory fails me on that point. I do remember upgrading the Machine Guns with Heavy Machine Guns though.

I remember playing in high school my buddy Mike got so into 'can take out a company of light mechs' so we had a sortie and I would always flank and kill it. Never lost more than 2 mechs'. He lost his shit when I killed one with a fleet of Pegasus hover tanks.

What else can be said? A "mech so fearsome that fear itself shall be our ally", Gen. Alexander Kerenski on the Atlas. The Atlas is the quintessential machine of war designed out of generations and generations of war machine construction. Not only weapons and armor but even its Visage strikes terrific fear in the hearts of even the most hardened mech pilots. The only 1 on 1 match that will test an Atlas is a King Crab and possibly the Annilator. But make no mistake there will be a fatality, such an encounter means somebody isn't going home and somebody else is going to the hospital minus a few extremities.
Even after all these centuries and including the arrival of the clans, only the Atlas can completely freeze the genetically designed blood of the true born clanner Pilots. This mech is an antique to the clans but when they encountered this legend in combat they quickly realized how much they underestimated the shear power of Gen Kerenskis brain child even when damaged and only rough repairs have been made and on to their utter defeat on tukyyid and onward through the awkward peacetime that followed. The Atlas continues to cut swathes through I.S and Clanner battle formations leaving behind grieving families and gutted battle mechs in its wake, that is the power of the mighty Atlas.

For those that do not know, the Atlas outer weapons can be replaced with building tool, for cutting up scrap and breaking down debris, in case when construction mechs are not around and their is plenty of scrap and salvage, it been done, this makes it a very flexible, mech, so do not be surprised if you see an Atlas picking up a Urby and taking him to repair or salvage docks,

No. It is a tanky command mech. It is one of the most heavily armored mech, even tougher than most clan mechs that cost twice the Atlas. It's firepower is weak compared to every other 100ton mech. A 85ton Longbow easily has more firepower. If you take out the jump jets from the Highlander, even that has more firepower

I have allot of history with one of these before the clan invasion Era, and some after when I modified one with 3rd level tech in the 3060s when I used a torso mounted cockpit, ultra small engine in the head to make it faster than any other assault mech in my arsenal, but with the twist of using a full head ejection system and one ton of arrow IV ammunition set to destroy the engine on impact to cause large amounts of damage to a single target at the cost of moving slower afterwards. It was mostly for sh*ts and giggles and I only played it twice in a non Canon setting.

@@GrimDarkNarrator NP, the Atlas was either the first or second assault mech I got my hands on after my highlanders were stolen the other contender being an awesome, it was in rough shape at first being a salvage job (the awesome was in great shape by comparison then again we bought that one), but once I had it running it was a reliable mech and was the primary mech for the first of my main characters until he retired. Never needed it for anyone else and his son pilots a unique assault mech of his own design like everything else in his unit. I'll wait until you talk about four leggers to bring up one of those.
