Hi Nils excelent video! What exact watch are you using and how have you linked it to insta360 x4, do you have a tutorial to show the speed and hr in the video?
great session!! I don’t know what you did different this time but your camera setup looks super good. love the fin too, wish my spot was wind everyday for it 🤙
Short question Nils. I’ve the insta 360 x3 and a Coros V ertix2. I know how to use the connect function to start/stop recording with the watch h as remote. Could you give a brief explanation where the settings are to record the gps data on the insta 360? Only found an explanation of the insta remote, but not for other devices like the Coros watches. Thanks for sharing ❤ and let’s hope autumn will bring some decent winds ;-)
Hi Nils.
Love the heart rate and speed. Can you set the speed setting to knots? Thanks for converting it. It looks like a great spot to sail. How big is the chop? the 360s flatten it so it's hard to tell. I had to laugh when you said the video was blurry because your dad didn't have his glasses. I have that problem. 😆
Hi Nils. Where is this lake ? Take care of your hand and write a report with photos about the fin to the maker ... LOL. That's how foils should be used. Light winds: too light to get a really good fin session in. Foils are a very similar sport but so different to fins.
Does the Insta lose connection to the watch when it is underwater? Does the connection re-establish itself? This is the case with the One X2 and the GPS remote control. The only thing that helps is restarting the camera and restarting the remote control.
could be much faster, we had 30knot gusts, in 36 knot gusts i've done 77km/h (41,5knots) here before, still waiting for another day like this for 4 years now...
they're the Atan 3mm ones, hard to find in some countries, i actually found them in a Surfshop in France (it's a Frech brand) I love them, they lie around the foot so well like a second skin and almost feels like riding barefoot.
Whoops, where did my earlier comment go? Maybe something did not like the link to Garmin... Then without a link: I use one from Connect IQ called "Windsurfing application" from ViVSurfer. Works well enough for me, but if you want to post to GPS Speedsufing you need a different device.
Amazing footage and amazing speed! Your heart rate was pretty high too ( I mean almost 170bpm?), is it normal when you windsurf so fast ? I have a lower heart rate when run really fast! I guess the excitement about the high speed contributes also to this spike... thanx alot for sharing this high-speed-windsurfing-experience with us!!! Ps: what is your current speed record both on fin and on foil?
i am not sure it is 100% accurate with the watch on the wrist and not a proper chest monitor, didn't feel like i was near my max HR in the moment but maybe it is, i cannot say for sure...
You are demonstrating some serious speed. It shows that the width of the board has little to do with it, and it's all about the fin. Interesting. I see that you may have ventilated your fin a bit, at one point, but then a good recovery.
width is still important, smaller will always be faster if it's windy and flat enough, but fin plays a major role as well as well as sail size. on the 97 i was using a proto that has a bit thinner profile than regular slalom fins, lacks a bit of power in the lower wind anturally but has really high topspeed potential, but also a bit higher chance of ventilation...
Disinfect and tape it up... and hope you didn't cut deep enough to lose any function. I invented a trailing tip fin in the '80's. But nobody wanted to try it. It worked great for upwind ability (twist, rather than flex) and it also worked really well for ventilation recovery. Only Kalama copied it, after I explained that it looked like a Blacktip Shark's dorsal fin. But he didn't understand the fluid dynamics involved - since he only copied it for the aesthetic appeal.
it's already healed pretty well since the session on friday thanks :) sounds like an interesting concept, always good to try things and keep innovating 👌
@@WindsurfingNils In a lifetime of surfing over coral, and w/surfing, now kiting, I've slashed myself up many many times. Digging out the coral, disinfecting and tape has worked for decades.
have to play around with some waterproof microphones, insta 360x4 already improved from the previous models, but still struggles in the windier stuff, foiling in 12 knots the audio is actually really usable!
i have to say i didn't REALLY enjoy the foil as much in the first few years and only in the last one year or so really warmed up to it, it's amazing to be surfing 30 knots+ on the foil in less than 15 knots, if it's more the fin becomes so much fun so it's the perfect combination!
This POV for Windsurfing is great !
Looks epic! Demonstrates why fin sailing is such a rush.
Incredible flat water spot. Love the way you can share days with this with your dad too.
yes amazing spot and shared sessions are always the best!
Great speed. Congradulations Nils.
Another great video mate! Love it!
that looked super quick
Great video Nils, really liked it 🤙 Fin AND Foil is great 😉🤙
thanks, i am also getting kind of tired of the endless debate of fin vs. foil (although i did some videos on the subject myself haha)

70 km/h and a sunny day!

Km/h is fine with your European audience , so stick to it!❤
would love to set it to knots but the insta 360 software only gives km/h or mph...
Sooooo fast Niels:):):). Very nice. See you at Waterz, DK??
I'll be there from the 7th 👍
15:02 hitting 70km/h you look very serious on the camera 😀 I would probably too if I went that fast. smile arrives 10 sec later 15:12 😂
full focus on the run 👌
Speedy! 🔥
Your HR is high considering what you're doing. . . . . . Nice vid cheers stu
was thinking the same, I'm not sure also that the watch ready the hr 100% correct while on the water...
happy with my new pb of 33 kn. But seeing how easy you can do it is pushing me. But at least i beat u at the Born spot :D
congartulations on your record! haha I guess I have to come back to Born now ;)

Thank you 😊
good speed i want to visit this or similar lake with flath water what name this lake?
steinhuder meer!
Moin. Cheers Alex
Nice run and good video. Why did you choose Steinhude and not Mardorf in this conditions?
flatter and faster ;)
nils the speed is good but concentrate on the heart rate... its a bit high. great spot with super flat water...
He's lower than mine..never got over 170. I can average 170 lol's ..mind you I'm prob 25 years older..
This heart rate is way too high...
i was also surprised to see it is so high, didn't feel like that in the moment...
Can you recommend a windsurf app for garmin watches?
no idea about garmin devices, sry...

Gpstc V4. Great if you're in a speed comp. 5 category coverage , alphas etc.

Was the fin faster that a regular slalom fin?
hard to say, felt really good, but cannot say if it is faster or slower, need to do more testing...
@@WindsurfingNils that would make a great video, just to see different fin shapes compared.
Nice one !! I envy you those long reaches on flat water.
it's the best!
Moin Nils. Is that the Liberty hybrid harness you’re using?
it is :) iam using a similar one and its amazing for me
yes it is, hit me up if you need one ;)
Which GPS watch are you using Nils ?
I am using the Coros Vertix 2, very happy with it (I am not sponsored haha)

Was that a fkn dockstart? hahaha

Hallo Nils,
Mega cool.
Insta 360 x4 is great. Maybe you can improve the audio.

Kn/h. Sorry, habs jetzt gesehen.
Tolles Vid!-)
yes in km/h, 70 knots wären schön 😳
For the love of god, can we all switch to knots?!
i'd love to, but the insta 360 only gives the option to display in km/h or mph...
Good video. It never fails to crack me up at how Germans changed the word sailing into "surfing." Language is how you use it, after all.
i have to say i didn't REALLY enjoy the foil as much in the first few years and only in the last one year or so really warmed up to it, it's amazing to be surfing 30 knots+ on the foil in less than 15 knots, if it's more the fin becomes so much fun so it's the perfect combination!
anyone can blast fast on flat water. Thats lame
it's great fun!
