thank you all for not only a fun 2023 on this channel but supporting it since Dec 2018. Cannot believe it's already been 5 years! Lets crush another five!
Mark, Thank you for all those years sharing your knowledge, advice, and experiences. I wish you a wonderful 2024! Cheers from Minnesota! PS: I'm very shocked that only 10% watch your incredible content 😮 they're really missing good information.
Mark, you report that some of your best ideas have come while you were bored. I picked up this saying in 1972 from a friend's copy of the Reed College yearbook: "Unrelieved boredom is the beginning of the end of being bored." I've found that boredom can be creative if we interpret it as freedom to look around. Hey Mark, didn't know you're a runner. My friend showed me the book at Runner's World, where I was the staff photographer and edited a cycling mag.
We are hoping to finally launch our sailboat home so I can FINALLY make the doc I want to about that project. Two years in, hopefully only a few more months go before we are back to living on the water. And thanks so much for, as always, sharing some valuable tips!
Hey Mark! Just wanted to drop this comment and say a massive thank you for being such a huge inspiration to all of us in our filmmaking journey. Your videos have been a game-changer for me-I actually got the idea for my first short film while watching one of your cool videos! I'm currently working on it right here in Heidelberg, Germany. If you ever swing by this way again, it would be incredible to meet and greet. Your knowledge has meant the world to me, and I can't thank you enough for all you've shared. Keep rocking those videos!
10% club sounds like a great t-shirt, haha. Keep up the great work, man, you’re inspiring all of us and the lessons on sustainability are no less important to share. Congrats on a great year!
As a filmmaker, this is my favorite video of the year. In the middle of my reflecting process now! I love to see the wins in the AOD accelerator. I have a theory that there's gonna be a high percentage of quality filmmaking coming out of the accelerator groups. *Putting this here for 2024. I literally gaff taped an AirTag to my book marker in my journal, lol.
Mark love the channel and this video. I found you thanks to your podcast with Erwin and I haven't been able to stop watching your content. This year has been a rough, rough year and I'm in the midst of my first sabbatical in 20 years of ministry and I've been inspired by you and your content to begin to dive back into my film student days of 20 years ago. Relearning so much and enjoying the journey of rediscovering and you being one of the instructors. Thank you. Here's to 2024!
"Your gift will kill you." Powerful words - needed to hear 'em. The "handle your gift and passions with care" chapter is some of the best advice I've gotten from RUclips. Thank you!
Got to meet you this year and it really sparked a fire. So grateful for all you do. Hope to build something this year that makes full use of all the inspiration you provide. Thanks for all your do.
IDK how this would sound, but just sharing my learning on 2:39, while you are traveling/driving to work or just working on photos/designs. Don't go on listening to Gary vee/or other How tos, or This is what you are doing wrong vdos ( give them time sure but take a significant break from them ). My suggestion listen to local radio or any radio you like. I felt I got overwhelmed with the idea of falling behind ( which i kinda think i still am lol but those podcasts, video somtimes push that anxiety more ) not sure anyone can relate to this just sharing and great video Mark as always. Happy new year!
Just to clarify, I love gary vee and all those podcast lol, but I did feel a break from them is a must to actually think of yourself and whats unique about your stories and how u wanna tell them
Mark, your heart, your talent, and your authenticity on camera are the things I so appreciate about you. As a fellow PK, I believe in divine appointments. And I think God helped me stumble on your channel this year. It truly has changed my life and my outlook on film making in such a positive way. I’m in NC, so maybe one day I’ll get to tell you the whole story. Have a great NYE. And cheers to a great 2024.
Mark I really appreciate how real and open you are on the videos you put out. You not only share great insights to film making, but you share what you are thinking and feeling. I relate so much to what you share cause I either have gone through it or are going through it. Thank you bro!
Thank you for sharing. Lots of good insights! Loved the idea of becoming a better storyteller by telling myself the truth more often. It resonated // HNY from a 10-percenter :)
These are some important lessons man! Especially resonated with the authentic storytelling and knowing when to take time off from your passion. Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year to you and all AOD fam! :)
Mark, thank you for all you do! I so relate to every word! At age 66 and new into filmmaking, you are teaching this old dog new tricks. ❤ Happy new year!
I just want to say thank you for all you do. I produced 3 docs and a ton of other content this year after an extended period of time recovering from an incident that nearly took my life. Your stuff here on RUclips and AOD helped give me the confidence that I could pick up a camera again. I'm excited to do even more for 2024!
Definitely a great video, that can make any of us to stop for a second and auto evaluate ourselves and think about the progress we’ve achieved and the areas that we kinda are struggling. Great. Thanks Mark.
This is a really awesome video Mark, nice work. Raised some awesome points, especially on giving yourself permission to be bored and not pushing yourself too much. You really need to look after your health. Ive made that mistake before and not got the health back even now. Now i take it way more serious and will be making sure i look after myself and family even more this next year. Have a great new years buddy! All the best for 2024!
Mark, thank you for passing on your wisdom. I’ve completed AOD module one and I’m looking at picking up module two when it opens next year. I will be filming my first documentary in February. Happy New year! 🍻
2023 was an amazing year filmmaking wise. Even during the SAG strike I was able to meet and work with some very talented people and complete some outstanding projects. I am looking forward to the new year. Awesome lessons Mark and I agree with you! See you next year man
Thanks for your videos Mark ! I'm very happy to have stumbled on your chanel and i find your videos really inspiring ! Please keep them coming for all those how watch them till the end 😉 cheers Nico
Thanks so much for sharing your skills and knowledge, I've learned so much from this channel about making documentaries and filmmaking in general. You inspired me to make my first documentary this year on the Toledo Water Crisis of 2014 and next year I'm going to start an even bigger project, covering the aftermath of the train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio. I honestly don't think I'd even have the confidence to attempt these projects without this channel, so thank you for that, Mark!
Happy New Year. Thanks for the video. I am starting my 6th major documentary for next year and your channel has been helpful in shaping my approach. I'm a proud 10%, watching to the end. ;)
Another great presentation! I did the documentary this year and got many ideas from you. Someone says… Oh, I love that shot and I’m secretly thinking “thank you, Mark Bone“
End of the year reflections are essential!! Happy New Year! Also, it was a fun treat to see RUTH pop up half way through the video with the other one day docs! Thanks for sharing candidly, Mark. 🙌🏻
Thanks Mark for sharing all the work that you guys do, it's truly inspiring. as a member of AOD really makes me me proud of this amazing community. I have learned so much, 2023 has been my best year in filmmaking thanks in BIG part to AOD. My best wishes to you and Michael. I hope to collaborate at some point with you or the community at some point. Cheers from Costa Rica!
Hey man, thanks for sharing such wonderful lessons. I’ve been watching you and I love your mindset your workflow. I have learned so many things from you and I am truly grateful for every every single lesson because it’s made my career.
Man I just need to get over my social anxiety so I can start collabing with people. I'm in Pretoria, South Africa, not in AOD, but would love to meet up in anything ever happens here 😅
that pronunciation of 'whoop' definitely took me off guard😭 Great video and lessons, and thank you for the great lessons you've been able to provide this year!
Thanks Mark, congrats on all of your success, and hats off to your entrepreneurial spirit, I have a hard enough time finishing just my short docs. Do you have any advice on landing new clients/marketing yourself? I've had features I DP'd on Netflix and Showtime, but I'd like to have my own boutique production company for commercials, short docs and branded content.
My name is Aaron and I live in Toronto, Canada. I want to help people bring their films and docs to life with my cinematography skills. I'm fully equipped and simply want to film more and more.
Hey Mark, I have been slowly building up my kit and now its time to buy a monitor and from looking at your ultimate kit you say that the Small HD Action5 is best but its sold out every where. What else do you recommend?
@markboneI have started my first documentary and I was wondering does anyone pay the talent that's in the documentary had a couple of people that ask for some type of payment. Is this the norm
I love DOCUMENTARY , I want to add that flavor into my RUclips videos. Is there a healthy community that I can click with about ♥️❔ Maybe even beyond RUclips?
I find the overuse of music distracting - it also often diminishes and degrades the person speaking in a shot. "Here's Bob, but what he has to say isn't very important - so we'll add some music to compensate for this". Even worse is the overuse of sound effects in transitions, something that even some of the big producers do. AAaaarrrghhhh....
thank you all for not only a fun 2023 on this channel but supporting it since Dec 2018. Cannot believe it's already been 5 years! Lets crush another five!
Mark,
Thank you for all those years sharing your knowledge, advice, and experiences. I wish you a wonderful 2024!
Cheers from Minnesota!
PS: I'm very shocked that only 10% watch your incredible content 😮 they're really missing good information.
Been following you from the start since you were in a video by Matti. Congrats on 5 years, brother!
Love you man!
Thank you for all the content this year Mark.

Ironically, by not taking yourself too seriously, people like me take you more seriously! Great advice
Hope you have a wonderful New Year Mark. Glad to be part of the 10% club that watches to the very end 😁
Hire for your weaknesses. This has hot home. This is something I need to do in 2024. Thank you.
These are GREAT tips... I am really working on putting my phone down to be 'bored' to inspire creativity.
Thnx for sharing all your experience, flaws, and wisdom. 10% rocks 😎
Always!
Congratulations Mark!
We are hoping to finally launch our sailboat home so I can FINALLY make the doc I want to about that project. Two years in, hopefully only a few more months go before we are back to living on the water.
And thanks so much for, as always, sharing some valuable tips!
Thank you for all the information you put out there. I was so inspired I joined the AOD community and I am blown away so far!
Precious lessons alert!!!! Seriously, great GREAT stuff Mark! I will sure learn from those in a near future! Keep inspiring us man! 💯
Thank you Mark. Here's to 2024.
10%er.....lol Happy 2024 brother. When you're next in Portugal or NYC let me know, we can jam out!
I’m also very passionate about AOD and Mark Bone 🎉 I love my job 🥹🙏🏼
but I will paint and read some more this year for my mental health ❤

Loved this mark!
Thanks brother 😘
Got to meet you this year and it really sparked a fire. So grateful for all you do. Hope to build something this year that makes full use of all the inspiration you provide. Thanks for all your do.

Don’t worry, Mark; I’m a 10 percenter. Also good advice-you inspired me to make a goal of being more bored in 2024 (for creativity purposes).
I really love your channel Mark, you give me so much inspiration! :)
A big 2023 thank you!!!
Thank you for sharing. Lots of good insights! Loved the idea of becoming a better storyteller by telling myself the truth more often. It resonated // HNY from a 10-percenter :)
