Thanks so much for this Mark! It's been such a transformational journey. So grateful for the community you are building both here and in AOD. Excited to get our film into the world!
This video is timely for me. While I do have another doc I'm working on (I was actually on the AOD call last week getting some advice which I'm grateful for), I've wanted for over a year now to do a doc on myself. 4 years I was a victim of gun violence. It was mistaken identity when I was dropping a friend off from church. 14 shots hit my car. 10 hit me. I nearly died and for over 2 years I wondered whether I'd ever be able to pick up a camera again. I've wanted to share my story as a doc myself but between health issues and going back to those memories it has been difficult. However every time I share my story with someone I always notice how much people pay attention and then are encouraged by it. This video is motivating me to get back on getting this story told. I think I could help a lot of people who are struggling to overcome the physical, mental and emotional challenges that come with surviving trauma related to gun violence.
@@Teethpunch hey thanks for reaching out! I've started but have also been juggling full-time work as a video producer and working part-time as a media team lead at my church. Which I proudced 3 short docs for at the beginning of this year. I want to get my story done. It's just been hard to find the time to sit down and do it all everything else going on.
I premiered a self-documentary back in January on my journey battling COVID, and even while I made the effort to create an honest hero's journey out of my situation there is still so much I'd change if I were to remake it today (fingers crossed I won't have COVID again haha).
So much going on in southern Ontario this weekend so I'm screwed with another commitment, and two other events already given a pass. This would have been worth the long drive if for nothing but to get myself recharged.
Super inspiring story! I have been saving for personal reasons but after watching this video I have to spend it on this course. Money comes and goes but learning the trade of moving hearts has no price - imho
Wow this video really popped in my recommended on perfect timing… my dad passed away a month ago and I’m literally starting to make a documentary about his life and his photography, definitely an amazing video to watch before I start ❤️
Once again another amazing and informative video I truly appreciate you giving up the format and foundation to documentary work it's definitely needed and very helpful 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 Thank You again for all that you do for us!
Mate that was fantastic troys thrown his heart into the spotlight definitely learned a lot about the craft and himself That’s pretty brave goodonya both for inspiring us cheers
Love seeing this as I'm currently writing on a shortdoc or perhaps rather a shortfilm but it still is very helpful. And this definitely pushes me to continue working on this project.
Dude this is amazinnng 😍 The tips were amazing not just for documentaries but in general any kind of filmaking … Loved the end .. You want to make a film just go out and do it .. Loved this video Mark and all the best To Troy and you for the Premier it sounds like an Awesome Film ❤️💯🔥
Another great video! I'm really excited to join AOD when it opens. I have been making small films for clients here and there but I'm desperate to do more, learn more and make more. There are so many untold stories out there ready to be given to the world!
I'm just watching and watching your videos. Very thankful to you for creating such kind of videos. And @troybedenbaugh You are also doing a great job and Far from Nepal God bless you, Mark
Wow, Wow..!!! Just amazing brother. I related to this topic so much from my 1st documentary when I joined AOD. I did my fist Documentary on myself and had to learn quickly to be vulnerable and share my flaws as I struggled with a learning disability and had to interview my mom and my wife and then put myself in the documentary. Would love to connect with Troy and share my story with him. Love the AOD community and what it’s doing for many of our filmmaking careers.
I am glad to have found your channel. This is really good content for movie makers who are still starting out. All the explanations are very well explained. But I need to improve my english more 😅
Hey! so I'm planning on signing up for AOD but the website countdown timer says 14 days, which puts it on september 6th but this video just said the 12th... Im assuming the 12th is the accurate date? Thanks Mark! I damn excited to start this course!

You got this tyrone. I’m sure someone like Troy could offer up great advice. Making a film about yourself is a challenge but not impossible
Hey brother, did you ever get the chance to start doing that doc?

Heck yeah!!
The best part about this is that there are tips pertaining to the topic but the video also promotes a young filmmaker. Quite helpful.

where will we be able to watch the film online?
On this channel (Mark's) !

Hey Mark, I just found your content....again! Just saying that your vids and the content is SPOT ON!! so keep up the good work. Jeremy M.
Thank you Jeremy!
For AOD is it at your own pace or does it have due dates type thing?
It’s totally your own pace!
Lifetime access
Love it cant wait to Join your masterclass
Can’t wait to have you a part of it david!
Why you don't allow us to save the videos?
I love it
At around 2:38, you repeat "Be open to sharing the emotional side of the journey you’re undergoing" from the previous tip at 2:19.
Wasn’t able to go to the Buffer Film Festival, but will there be a way to stream Troy’s film online at some point?
Any tips to make my hiking films feel or lean more towards the documentary vibe?
The film needs a goal. A why. A question you’re exploring. Without a reason for your people hiking then it’s just hiking b-roll
I literally can’t wait to give you my money and attention. Let’s go👏🏻
Not sure if only on my end but the homepage seems to be having issues. I same thing for a friend of mine. Y’all may want to look into it
Sorry to clarify this is the AOD website
Should be fixed
I don’t want to make a film about myself, because I’m nobody. But I want to make a film about a place.
