It is a joke to call this film "an important love story." Yes, it was groundbreaking to see a mainstream Hollywood film about a gay relationship. @Heiliger Katholik there is a huge difference between "not liking" homosexuality, and being homophobic.
Homosexuals have no desire to create other homosexuals. Homophobes have a desire to create other homophobes. And they do that with homosexuals.
People who are not homosexual and aren't against it, just can't be bothered and will never become homophobes.
73% of homophobes (people who actively use their power to deny homosexuals their rights and freedoms) are estimated to have homosexual tendencies, and even come out later in life.

The thing about homosexuality, people always focus on sex. They never address the emotional component of two men in love which is no different to a man or woman in love, or two women. Nothing about it is unnatural, but again, people can only focus on sexual acts and the fact that nothing can be 'born' from gay relationships. Brokeback Mountain was one of the most beautiful, heart wrenching movies I have ever seen.
@Brazilian Goddess It’s more of a romantic drama, I would say. As a person who doesn’t typically like romance movies, or westerns, I still really liked the movie.
@Brazilian Goddess I rewatched it yesterday, the second time after it came out in 2005, it's a good movie that marked me!!
@Brazilian Goddess ah you're missing out on good cinema avoiding romance like that, often romance is just a part of it, like in The Count of Monte Cristo, a revenge film but the romantic scenes are so sweet and well done.
@Brazilian Goddess Aw awesome no worries , it's a great watch :) (if you want to really get into it watch the 1934 version as well as the 2002), the adventure and romance go hand in hand, try to avoid thinking that you're putting up with one for the other. Genres are like stereotypes, they're not all the same! Gotta have an open mind! Thought saying that I tried to get into some proper old westerns but definitely found martial arts more enjoyable:))
@Brazilian Goddess - Yours is an interesting reply; it made me laugh. And I'm gay. Thank you!
I remember when me and my friends decided to watch this movie for a laugh at my friends house about 15 years ago now. It only got to about 30 minutes into the movie where i stopped joking around with my mates and actually got intensely watching the movie. After watching it i felt like a whole new person. I cant believe that i was such a prick when i was younger and all the people who have suffered from my horrendous homophobia i send my blessings to.
About a week later i got new friends who where amazing and im still in contact with to this day but in my then new friend group i met a guy named adam. Adam also used to be pretty homophobic until he matured as he grew older but he was the one who actually made me realise i was bisexual. We have been in a relationship now for what feels like forever. We moved in with each other about 2 years ago now and were planning to get married! Honestly if it wasnt for this movie i would probably be in a horrible state right now and i cant even begin to imagine what further damage i could of coursed for the others around me. Sorry if this comment doesnt really make sense as im really bad with my words and i cant express how grateful i am for this movie and what an impact it had on my life.🙏
Edit: its only been a month since i wrote this comment but it was 2 days ago now where me and Adam went to Disney world where he proposed to me! Were going to plan out the wedding when we get back but we are chilling in Paris currently. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us!

What a refreshingly ‘unHollywood’ response, the guy just sounds so downright decent and chilled about the question. A great loss, gone far too soon.
Hollywood has always been liberal. Further, casting is all about who you know. Being politically savvy, diplomatic, and liberal is kind of the status quo for the industry. It’d be more un-Hollywood if he said “screw your opinion and this libtard movie I’m paid to promote/justify/defend”.
Anyway. Not trying to cheapen what he said, it was well spoken, but I wouldn’t exactly call it unbiased or un-Hollywood. It’s not like he said Taiwan was a country or anything

As a gay man I really love and respect when a Straight guy sticks up for the gay community and says it how it is. Heath says it perfectly here, what an amazing human being he was. If you’re comfortable with your sexuality as a straight person there really is nothing to fear about homosexuality. It’s no different than any other relationship after all. Just a much more difficult life for most up until just recently.
No different than any other relationship??? Are you allowed to take cellphones and access social media in a hospital for the Mentally disturbed??????????

“Why does he have to be gay?”
This question infuriates me 😖,
I have heard it all my life ,
PEOPLE YOU DONT CHOOSE TO BE GAY ,
YOU ARE BORN GAY!!
Not so fast! Psychology tells us the overwhelming majority of people have the capacity for both hetero- and homosexual relationships. However, it's not all 50 - 50. Some people have a stronger "yearning" towards one sexuality than the other. It's all about choice...and make the choice that is best for you, regardless of your inclinations. In other words, do the right thing that is best for you. Remember, there are societal pressures and rejections for choosing a certain lifestyle. Would it be worth it to go through all that. Also, we all have an unconscious mind and it can generate negative feelings, depression, anger, nightmares, etc. because of what we do on the conscious level. Are you willing to deal with all that?...Is it worth it. Yes, there are people who are 100% hetero- or homosexual, but they are in the extremes, not the vast majority of the human population.
Bottom line: Do what HONESTLY gives you peace of mind and makes you feel good about yourself. It's your choice and your life.
He said it right: shouldn’t be be voicing our opinions on hate and not love? Who someone sleeps with is no ones business because we know you’re unhappy in your own relationship or just trying to make it to the next day.
If it's nobody's business, then why are they making movies about it? Why is homosexuality being shoved down society's throat constantly? Just keep your sexual behavior to yourself. Nobody cares. Yet homosexuals feel the need to impose their alternative lifestyles on everyone else. THAT is the bore.
@@RedRover-mx7sd that just doesn’t happen tho... everyone is conditioned to think straight is “normal” and homosexuality is “wrong”, if you’re so bothered then turn away, being a homophobic, generalising prick is nothing to be proud ab lad

@@RedRover-mx7sd If you feel like a romance movie about two men is "shoving it down youre throat" than whats youre stance on heterosexual romance movies it should be the same right?
"Why is homosexuality being shoved down society's throat constantly?" Umm it isn't. The LGBT community is simply trying to portray love stories. If I see a movie and the couple is heterosexual I don't feel like heterosexuality being shoved down my throat. Stop being scared you can't catch "being gay". If you don't like homosexuality then don't watch the movie.
Pretty simple solution.

If I see a guy kissing a guy on the street, I would walk away just as I would walk away from seeing a guy kissing a girl on the street. It's just affection. It doesn't affect me.
