When you're not authentic you keep hating everything, when you're not authentic then you don't actually know yourself, when you're not authentic you don't know what you need or why are you feeling something. That's what's homophobia is: not knowing yourself, and that's the saddest thing.

@MaxArt228and we lost to him to a broken heart, that's the worst part about it. He couldn't handle the pain. I wish someone could have helped him through it, but what's meant to be, happens.
Such a shame he passed way too soon. We need people like this who can express their opinions without insulting anyone. He really was just a kind beautiful person
No one that has ever lived on this planet who expresses their true beliefs can ever say they've never offended anyone! Its called freedom of speech! People out there get offended for others eating an animal! People get offended for people cutting the skin off the penis of other baby boy! If your a free thinker you cant not but offend others! Thing is its okay to be offended, its natural, regardless of your beliefs, its that bad now other people get offended on behalf of someone else! People need to learn that not everyone reads off the same page! Biggest offender is religion!! Without that humans could definitely live in a more harmonious world.
Uh yeah, here! I find it hard watching films with actors who have passed but I have no doubts about watching this. What a legend of a guy he was. And still is! The fact that I have been recommended this.
*Heath Ledger* : 'my film is about homosexuality, not an *epidemic* or a *virus* ...' *RUclips* (seven years later): Topical. Must recommend to everyone.
@misur luci fer diablo I mean im nit disrespecting a whole religion. Also i agree with everything you said but that doesn't mean your pfp is not offensive
He also refused to make a joke about Brokeback Mountain when he was co-hosting the Oscars. He said it was a serious movie he was proud of and he wouldn't cheapen an important love story by making jokes about it
It is a joke to call this film "an important love story." Yes, it was groundbreaking to see a mainstream Hollywood film about a gay relationship. However, the two leads couldn't have had less chemistry (even other straight actors have done a better job), and I found myself cringing during the sex scene, which was neither romantic nor erotic. Besides that, the plot was painfully slow and overly solemn, and I wouldn't sit through it a second time.
Not necessarily. If you spend your entire life with basically the same worldviews, but you used those decades to be a positive force to those around you (including yourself), then I most certainly wouldn't call that wasted - would you?
It is a shame that people spend so much time worrying about other people love. This world is full of real problems. Why not try to fix one of them rather than bitching about what makes two consenting adults happy
I don't see why people waste their time and energy worrying about what other people do with their genitals and who they do those things with, what's the point?
Well maybe people wouldn't spend so much time worrying about other people and who they "love" if those "other people" weren't constantly trying to force others to accept that the "relationships" they're having are normal and healthy for society when they absolutely are not. TL;DR In this life, do whatever the hell you're going to do, but leave others that may not feel the same way the hell out of it. Because when you try to force others to agree with what you do, then you're no different than the "Bible thumpers" you probably have such disdain for.
@@brentcanfield8883 No one was forced go see Brokeback Mountain - so I’m rather unsure why you’re bringing this up? FYI: There are gay people that are religious. I don’t imagine you would appreciate being judged based on the behaviors of those you share a random trait/ideal/age with, like complete strangers that you may or may not agree with, but are the same gender/sexuality/preferred grocery store with. Please don’t do this to others. Heath Ledger was an amazing actor, but he was also a person and his loss is felt acutely by the many people that cared for him the most. The least you could do is not leave a comment claiming to agree with him, followed by something as hypocritical as "except for those ones that…”. Generalizing people isn’t acceptable. Try to be a decent human being, please? I’ve all but lost hope that mankind is worth the risk it poses to the world. Prove me wrong. Be a good person.
Exactly!....no one bats an eye if two men hate each other, but if they love each other it's some horrible abomination...THAT is some fucked up thinking, and shows how ass backward society is, and THAT kind of thinking is why society is in the shape it's in....if you think that way, you're just a miserable, sad, self-loathing individual, you literally promotes hate, and not love....
He honestly doesn't even seem that much "smarter" over a general person. He just seems like a down to Earth person expressing an idea that should be a natural reaction to homophobia. It's like a white person standing up against racism, or a man treating a woman with respect. They're not special for doing it: they're normal, as it should be the norm. Beyond the fact that Heath was still a brilliant person ❤️

As a 100% Heterosexual man in a loving marriage since 1988 with 3 children and 2 grandchildren, I am offended when some of my friends look at me like I have 3 heads when I mention that it is one of my favorite films. this is such a brilliant and incredibly well composed argument. not only logical and compassionate but witty too: if you don’t understand, just disengage. leave the space instead of espousing hatred
This is legit my first time hearing him speak as himself. He's clearly annoyed by the context he's speaking about but is doing his best to just brush it off and make Homophobia seem like something that's just dumb, which is how I think we should treat it personally. Shame we lost this guy, he was ahead of his time with his views.
@Chris Austin What are you on about? Even in this weird theory you've blurted out Homophobia would still exist. It represents a mindset towards homosexuality which can clearly be observed.

Instead, he did it in a very dignified manner, which I hope put that man to shame. By the way, I am a 65 year old Mother of a gay man who has been in a monogamous relationship with another man for 15 years. I am very proud of my son, who has dedicated his life to helping others as a firefighter. Love is love - it does NOT need to be between a man and a woman.
Yasmin M. The reason why he died. He speaks with boast. He is straight and supporting homosexuality? If i were him? I will shut my mouth for that question.

@@gubblfisch350 Yet with Ancient Rome and especially Pederasty was accepted where men would have relations boys. This is not accepted today. Gay marriage was only accepted for the Aristocats in that era too and only a small minority of people if they wanted to could get get a same sex marriage. The Jews who were at first exposed to Greek culture from Alexander the Great Conquest of the holy land, to the Roman occupation of that region, the Jews saw that homosexuality against their religion. Later on the Christians adapted Jewish religious beliefs of homosexuality being taboo. Eventually when the Roman emperor became Christian and then Christianity in the Roman empire became taboo throughout society. Homosexuality remained taboo in society until a couple of decades ago.
The thing about homosexuality, people always focus on sex. They never address the emotional component of two men in love which is no different to a man or woman in love, or two women. Nothing about it is unnatural, but again, people can only focus on sexual acts and the fact that nothing can be 'born' from gay relationships. People need to start seeing homosexuality more in line with the deepest bonds of friendship, instead of sex... and then nobody will be able to say it is unnatural.
i'm still struggling to understand exactly what the psychology is that causes people to feel homophobic and I think you hit the nail on the head, a lot of it has to do with sex, sex seems to be such a sensitive issue to all humans and seems to cause such a complex tangle of emotions, i'm not fully sure why that's the case with people and how it links with our evolution, but it seems to be the case

@Wisty Boy he's hardly being a hypocrite lol. He is literally counter attacking those closet gays that don't want it "shoved down their throats" -. Funny they should choose such wording isn't it.
@Heiliger Katholik there is a huge difference between "not liking" homosexuality, and being homophobic. Homosexuals have no desire to create other homosexuals. Homophobes have a desire to create other homophobes. And they do that with homosexuals. People who are not homosexual and aren't against it, just can't be bothered and will never become homophobes. 73% of homophobes (people who actively use their power to deny homosexuals their rights and freedoms) are estimated to have homosexual tendencies, and even come out later in life. A certain head of a "conversion therapy church" in the US, was a perfect example of this a few years ago.
@Heiliger Katholik having spent some time there, I really, really have to disagree. It's just what the people up top want you to see. That's how oppression works. Unfortunately.

I have so much respect for him as a person. The fact that he, a straight male, in 2005 when there was very little representation, stood up for gay rights and understands the core of the argument. He was such a genuine soul and should be an example for people in this world. I hope straight men, even 20 years later, can take something from him. RIP Heath.
He appears to be so warm and soft and gentle and thoughtful, crazy to think about him playing this version of the joker. Truly a gem of a person, in every way
In a way, I somewhat dislike that this topic is always answered by emphasising the love aspect, as an appeal to the kinder side of those asking the question. I'm far more confrontational about responding to it.... yes, people like to fuck others of the same sex. Don't like it? Tough shit. That's not meaning that I think homosexuality is solely about sex, but as a bi guy I take the stance that people can feel whatever they like about it, but in the end, it's just none of their fucking business what consenting adults do when they're having sex together.
I guess you’re only able to recognize external beauty, for sure because he’s handsome. But you’re lacking when it comes to judging of character. Anybody that defends basic human rights and acts humanely is a beautiful person. Just in case you need to be taught the basics, there you go.

I as well. I could see his level of acting making him one of the most admired and accomplished people in the movie industry. I was looking forward to what he was going to do. But I mostly miss that he was a good man.
The boldness it took to say this in 2005. He knew it risked his career to even star in the film much less defend gay people at a time where homosexuals might as well been radioactive. He’ll forever be loved and respected by our community ❤
He said it right: shouldn’t be be voicing our opinions on hate and not love? Who someone sleeps with is no ones business because we know you’re unhappy in your own relationship or just trying to make it to the next day.
If it's nobody's business, then why are they making movies about it? Why is homosexuality being shoved down society's throat constantly? Just keep your sexual behavior to yourself. Nobody cares. Yet homosexuals feel the need to impose their alternative lifestyles on everyone else. THAT is the bore.

@Brazilian Goddess It’s more of a romantic drama, I would say. As a person who doesn’t typically like romance movies, or westerns, I still really liked the movie.
@Brazilian Goddess ah you're missing out on good cinema avoiding romance like that, often romance is just a part of it, like in The Count of Monte Cristo, a revenge film but the romantic scenes are so sweet and well done.
@Brazilian Goddess Aw awesome no worries , it's a great watch :) (if you want to really get into it watch the 1934 version as well as the 2002), the adventure and romance go hand in hand, try to avoid thinking that you're putting up with one for the other. Hollywood has always been liberal. Further, casting is all about who you know. Being politically savvy, diplomatic, and liberal is kind of the status quo for the industry. It’d be more un-Hollywood if he said “screw your opinion and this libtard movie I’m paid to promote/justify/defend”. Anyway. Not trying to cheapen what he said, it was well spoken, but I wouldn’t exactly call it unbiased or un-Hollywood. It’s not like he said Taiwan was a country or anything

Well said. I specifically where he said we should be more worried about people hating each other rather than people loving each other. So true. The reality is that we put way too much focus on Gay/lesbian, gender, etc. We should all just love each other. Consenting adults and all the safety issues. He's straight, and and ally to the gay, or LGBT community. I couldn't be more proud to hear him as an adult, talking about his views on sexuality.
Though he is one of my all-time favorite actors, I never knew that he'd had an accent. Rest in peace, Heath Ledger. "Heroes always get remembered, but you know legends never die."
ShaneothefuckinLegend I'm well aware of both of those. I'd meant an accent that wasn't an "American" one, which is what I'm aware that I have. Typically, in my experience, when someone talks about another person having an accent, they mean an accent different from theirs.

My solution to this is not to try to ban onions. I don't try rationalize why other people shouldn't eat them. I just don't eat them. It's very simple.
The weirdest thing about the controversy surrounding this film is how for some reason the Disney animated movie Home on the Range, a movie about three talking cows, _also received backlash from the exact same people, for the exact same reason,_ despite the movie having no depictions of a same sex relationship; they picketed the release of that movie with signs like "h0mo on the range" and asked for it to be banned, claimed that disney was trying to turn kids gay with this movie that most kids weren't even interested in to begin with, it's just ludicrous. He sums everything up so well in under two minutes, especially the two points "we're just showing that the love between two men is as real as the love between a heterosexual couple" and "if you really don't like it; just don't watch it". I really miss heath ledger.

It was just amazing what this man said and it made me realize that part of the unvoiced pain in a conservative country is how LGBTQ are only accepted when it makes people laugh.

Two gay men loving each other has absolutely no affect on my life. Do your thing.
Brokeback Mountain was one of the most heartbreaking films I've ever watched. Heath's character expressed so much sorrow and pain without saying any words. It reminded me of growing up in a dysfunctional family where my parents never expressed their pain. My Dad drank 8-12 beers 5 nights a week while my Mom overate. When they did express anger, they did in a very passive aggressive way...which only created more intense pain and dysfunction. The way the director expressed that generation was very real to me.
I have seen the film 2 or 3 times and bawled my eyes out uncontrollably each time. I can't watch it again. It's because my gay brother committed suicide in 1998 (when coming out was more daunting than now. We, his family didn't know he was gay till after his death). The circumstances weren't exactly the same as in the film, but the emotions were. Jake Gyllanhall's character took Heath Ledger's shirt and kept it for years, then found it in the wardrobe after the tragedy. After ours unfolded, my brother's partner looked through the wardrobe and wept when he found my brother's best shirt. It was all just too close to home to bear.

When Brokeback Mountain came out I went to the movies to see it and there were religious protesters outside handing out leaflets saying that homosexuality was a sin. It was only just out and there were only around 10 of us seeing it. When I got out the religious people were still trying to stop people seeing the movie. People put on Facebook how "unnatural" and "wrong" the movie was, people around me still said being gay was gross and disgusting, my own friend hadn't come out because it wasn't as accepted back then. This movie wasn't out that long ago, but times were certainly different back then. Heath and Jake weren't only brave to star in it, but they were brave to speak up for it after. I remember telling people at college that I'd seen if and people were saying "is it true it actually shows a guy riding a guys ass? It should be banned" We shouldn't forget how different things were and the risk Jake and Heath took. I'll always miss Heath Ledger. I was a fan from being a kid.

@Brazilian Goddess I rewatched it yesterday, the second time after it came out in 2005, it's a good movie that marked me!!
Genres are like stereotypes, they're not all the same! Gotta have an open mind! Thought saying that I tried to get into some proper old westerns but definitely found martial arts more enjoyable:))
@Brazilian Goddess - Yours is an interesting reply; it made me laugh. And I'm gay. Thank you!

@@marcmarparran7753 I really sorry for all the pain you and your family endured. I have two young kids and I am trying to do whatever I can to be an accepting and loving father. I sincerely wish for them to be able to express themselves without looking over their shoulder to see if its "OK". Yes, that scene where Jake Gyllenhaal holds and smells Heath's shirt knowing he cant express his deep sadness and pain is almost too much. Thank you for sharing:)
@@marcmarparran7753 i'm sorry to hear that your brother took his own life i wish you had known he was gay too. i doubt you would have cared but only wish him the best
@@rolandofgilead43 Your kind words are much appreciated. Now I have a gay nephew who suffered terribly before finding a wonderful partner (now husband) and coming out. His life is good. The best we can do is salvage something good from the tragedy of the past. All the best to you.👍🏻
lol Brokeback from a d!@# in the ass
Heath seemed so shy, it's adorable. He's my favourite actor, I love him. May he rest in peace.
Here I am 11 years later getting this randomly recommended.
It should be banned"
We shouldn't forget how different things were and the risk Jake and Heath took. I'll always miss Heath Ledger. I was a fan from being a kid. I still haven't seen him as the Joker yet because I think it would be too sad to know he played the role of a lifetime and then didn't have chance to see the praise.
Maybe he WANTS you to watch his performance, I think
