Another great video guys, its about time topdon sent you out a scanner to do a review on hopefully it would connect to your car properly so you can do a abs pump bleed etc.
I watched and enjoyed to the end John, I always enjoy your Son and Dad collaboration! Think you bagged a bargain too, £300 for a 20k miles Waja is for nothing!
Pads seized in the calipers is common especialy with the lack of use, that can give a dodgy feeling pedal. Also degraded flexi hoses that are expanding under pressure. If it has had a servo changed as you suspect sheck the adjujstment on the pedal and the pushrod into the master cylinder if it has any adjustment, might be miles off and youre getting a lot of extra travel. I had a look on my Topdon Topscan and it has Impian/Waja listed within the ABS purge menu... might be worth a go with one, give me a shout if you want to try it..
Great video Jon and Pete well done could the issue be with that brake servo or brake pipes but if pedal firming up when engine off it’s working correctly?? I wonder if there is an issue with the ABS maybe needing a reset Anyway well done know you will get there in the end all the best to you all Daniel
Had this recently on our Fabia. It was a vacuum leak. Very hard to see with the naked eye but essentially one of the pipes had gone hard at a T joint and it was just sitting in place but not sealing. Pedal was hard with the car off but when running it would goto the floor.
If one of the hoses has delaminated, the respective brake would be sticking/binding. One of the fronts looked quite dusty….. And missing handbrake return springs are no joy either. No vacuum leak in the servo feed?
Haven't checked for a vacuum leak but I think it would hopefully be quite obvious. Brakes have now been stripped and serviced and all seems ok (video to come) - we will keep working at it
You need to look at front and back brakes cylinders a full brake inspection your dad has found dodgy brake pipes my top tip recycle brake fluid through a pair of tights, some times it also helps to heat rear brake shoes up in an oven this remove any moisture that can build up in pads and shoes
@@JonCoupland My brakes became more and more 'spongey'. Tried bleeding, new shoes and sliders, nothing worked. At work, we had the Taxi testing done on site, so I asked the tester his opinion, he looked and diagnosed a failing master cylinder. Maybe Proton made them from chocolate?
John, have the rear pads been replaced? If so, after the pistons were wound' back and new pads fitted and the handbrake worked before the brake pedal pumped, you'll not get a good pedal.
Have you actually changed ALL the brake fluid, rather than just topping it up? If it's over 2 years old it will contain water which doesn't compress and will make the brakes spongy.
I’m from the west mids (not Birmingham but 9 miles southwest) could be the heavy use of brakes with the traffic around here maybe it has been known and certain parts of Birmingham have a reputation let’s say! Nothing wrong with Lucas brakes like anything they just need servicing my granny worked for the company
I’m from Birmingham and started work for Lucas Girling in 1979 - I can see why people criticise my city and I’m not going to argue but after 45 years of working with many aspects of this company I can proudly say that Girling brakes were and still are (under Lucas, TRW and ZF brands) some of the best designed brakes in the world - ps check your brake hoses for any expansion with your foot hard down on the pedal
I used to drive Impians for Humberside, I seem to remember the brakes never felt that brilliant even when the cars were relatively new.
Ah that's handy to know
I often found mushy brakes to be caused by seized pads and or siezed guide pins, especially on cars that have low mileage and some vintage!
If Bruce was there he would have solved the problem ! great vid.
I bet! 😂 Thanks for watching

Brakes can feel different on every car, my wife's Ibiza are neck breakingly sharp. Nice to see dad dressed appropriately now it's getting colder.
Absolutely agree! Gut feeling was 'not quite right' - got to stay warm in the workshop 😊 thanks for watching
Loving your Waja! 😂All jest aside, I learned a lot in this one. And a nice video to watch over a Sunday morning coffee too 👏. All the best gents!

Glad you enjoyed it, genuinely thanks for watching. Makes it worthwhile. I agree. An absolute bargain and I love the car 🚗
Hello you absolute legends. There. Sorted it for you 🙃
Thanks again! 😀

great work boys
Thank you 🙌
Brake Caliper strip-down. Would be my best guess. 👍👍

Interesting to watch this process ❤
Glad you enjoyed it - thanks for watching

I had this with a 2012 renault megane it was the abs module
I have a fear this also may be the case - we will get there 😄
Check brake hoses for bulging under pressure.
I enjoyed this episode It's nice to see a bit of fun in it too, at least you both have changed most of the brake fluid ,so not a waste of time chaps 😂
Glad you enjoyed it - I was laughing whilst editing it 😂

You will love the next few videos then ;)
My Proton needed a new master cylinder at 7 years old. Luckily, the former Proton dealer in Northampton had one.
Blimey! Maybe I'm going to have to do the same

Will your dads Christmas cheer improve as we get closer to Christmas ?, or is he now at 100% cheer ? Love you Pete ! 😁🤪🤗
😂 nope - that's your lot
@@JonCoupland Oh nooooo ! 😭🍰 Give him some cake. 👍

With regards to not being able to purge the ABS, did you use the Volvo S40 setting? I'm guessing yes but didn't hear you say you try that one.
Yes 👍 but great idea in case 😀

Yup - brake fluid totally replaced now 😀 (another video coming)
Brake hoses delaminating inside
Ah I've never heard of that! Something to think about!
Playing with your Waja on Utube ? Could get you arrested!
Too cold for that today 🤣
what is it with Birmingham? you're not the first channel to say similar things. also Lucas brakes, theres the problem.
Just a cheap shot I suppose. Obviously said in jest 😊

No idea on what to do next. But enjoyed the video
Glad you enjoyed it. Next port of call is going to be to strip the brakes and give them a good 'looking at'
