I visit her a lot in Ashtabula Ohio, ever since she has been laid up there, she has been my Personal "mascot" boat for some time, I am very sad to see her go. RIP.
It's sad but it's the most economical way for LLT/GRN, and I completely understand. She lived a colorful life, I believe that the McKee Sons will probably be on the chopping board soon. Next year we'll be seeing the Algoma Transport go.
@@ConnorTenold Wood will hold its own weight and keep its shape when it''s on fire. If you can catch the fire in time and get it out, all you need to do is replace the timbers that were damaged ..unless you have to re-timber the ship from stem to stern. Steel does weird things when it gets hot. It bends and warps and its molecular structure can be irreparably altered. Yeah, steel is stronger and a better choice in the long run ...if you can keep fires away from it.

She was young too, only 51.
Lower Lakes has had on hell of a year. this one wasn't on the lakes long but dang. bad timing.
Weird. I worked on this ship when it was being built at Lockheed shipyard in Seattle.
What was the job like?
Typical shipyard new construction work. I was a welder in those days. Burned a lot of wire.@@ConnorTenold
@@warrennielsen1095 That's cool, what other ships did you work on?
Looks like a big maintenance issue along with another ship with the same paint scheme that recently developed a 13 ft crack in the hull.
Very well done!!!
Thank you!

The Algoma Transport just arrived at Port Colborne. Nothing on McKee sons
aw man lower lakes towing is having a really bad year. First cuyahoga, then Manitowoc, now tecumseh
at least Cuyahoga is being repaired
Yeah, there goes another one. It's sad. 51 isn't all that old, either. A wooden ship can survive a fire that a steel ship would not.
Young for the lakes........
You would think that wooden ship would would be worse of in a fire.

@@HahnJames That's really interesting I never knew that.
