“The pain of doing nothing will always be worse than the pain of doing something.” You changed my life with this one. You really did. Once again, thank you man.
"The slow, never-ending, subconscious discomfort of remaining dormant will always worse than the temporary and voluntary discomfort of making a change." What a great line!
However, there's one other pain that's overlooked here. And it's more painful than both of these combined. The pain from realizing you've barely made progress when you thought you were. When you think you're doing well after reaching 45 feet, only to realize you SHOULD be past 100 feet at this point. Believing for some time you were at least trying to change things, only to realize you're barely any different than what you were when you started. And then the "at least I'm doing something" defense is no longer valid.
What's better than telling youself "just one step today" for people who are hard on themselves: after the day is done, and you habitually look back on your day and think "wow, once again I didn't do enough to reach my goals" you can now think "wow, I took one step today, and that's more than I thought. I _did_ do enough"
Right. I'm so hard on myself lately, hard by not doing anything at all.. feeling unworthy, overwhelmed, undeserving.. and at the top of this I'm in a relationship as a 17 yr old student. I feel like I'm doing absolutely nothing and stucked in a loop. A never ending loop.

I'm 55 years older than you and can say you are on the right track. Of course all geezers have advice so here is mine: 1-Take care of yourself physically. Most people who reach the age where the pressure to 'become something' is behind them are physical wrecks. Eat right and stay strong and you'll get to be the helper rather than the helpless. 2- Forgive yourself when you mess up and others who disappoint you. And yes, your mom was right about the single step (and you were right to thank her). That's it. Have a good life.
I heard a comment a long time ago that said “Don’t not follow your dreams because of the time it will take. That time will pass anyway”. I thought that was a very good point.
Omg, you won't believe it, but I was procrastinating a lot 2 hours ago and that's why I have written "time gonna fly anyway" on my left hand. I mean with a ball pen just to keep reminding myself.
It's true, I was one semester away from graduating studying a major I didn't love and one that would lead to a career I wouldn't want. I'm much happier and certain about my path now, having switched majors into the healthcare field, despite it taking longer to complete. I would rather chase my dreams than be stuck somewhere worried about the opportunity costs to transition.
Me neither. I just let things slide. But the more I do that, the more overwhelming the task of getting my shit together seems to be. My only goals are to try to keep my home and myself clean. But if I achieve that, maybe I can push on from there. Still a work in progress, but if I can just do a little more each day, maybe I can start to think about what I might like to do to improve my life.
As simple as it sounds it's true and in my case all I wanted was a job and figure it out on the road but now I'm stressed and burnt out with these dumb ckwkoecokanwbdbxkakwkdbcnaqalqp holes co workers. It's been years since I felt like this and now that I met 2 new friends I have to leave them and work on my own once again. It's been 3 years since I last worked on myself that good.
One more thing to add from a 64 year old man: Always have something to look forward to. A goal, a trip, that book you want to write. And, yes, I have to remind myself to take one step at a time. Which is why I'm closing the browser after this and prepare to go to my booksigning.
Hello Charlie,This morning, by chance, I found your video. I am a 76 year old lady who has always been totally committed to getting the most out of myself and my life. I recently found myself in a dark spot and I have been well and truly stuck. I can clearly see my way forward now. One step at a time. Thank you and bless you x
I’m 17 and my only motivation to never give up is that i want to make sure my parents in the future live a comfortable and carefree life in their old age. They’ve done too much for me and for that reason i will never give up🙇♂️my time will come…i can see it, i know it, and i can feel it.
All you do needs to be for you, what youll do for you will without any doubt shines your environment. Remember sun doesn’t wake for us or any tree, it is in his purpose to shine us.
“The pain of doing nothing will always be worse than the pain of doing something.” "The slow never-ending subconscious discomfort of remaining dormant will always be worse than the temporary and voluntary discomfort of making a change." Dude... thank you. I'm writing my master's thesis and keep hitting new lows everyday. These 2 quotes just changed my mindset. Thank you so much.
You got me out of bed. I’d been on my phone for 2 hours, thinking about how far behind on my goals I am. Now I’m at my PC. When I click send, I’ll work for 30 mins on my script for my game. Why is motivation so hard? This phone is like a trap sometimes. But I’m grateful I saw your video. Right now I’m hopeful.
Use drive instead of motivation, both are two different things of course, but motivation will always disappoint, drive is more like discipline, do it even when you don’t want to. The outcome at the end is more rewarding than waiting for the motivation to do something, even if it’s a small amount. There’s ways of breaking habits and it’s always a cue, crave, reward ordeal, find what’s making you the way you are, study it and you will find more about yourself that you never knew.
I'm struggling with depression, overthinking, negative thoughts, and my situation just seems too messed up to fix, it feels overwhelming and hopeless. Many times it gets so hurtful, it's hard to keep going, I don't know if I even have goals/dreams anymore, many times I just want to end it, but this idea of one step at a time, even very small, without thinking of the entire mountain your about to climb, that kinda sounds less overwhelming, and more doable. thank you.
That is actually very brave of you to try and change. I know (trust me, I know) how overwhelming things can be when you have no energy. So, for you to commit to taking one step is a considerable achievement. Well done!
"If you can't be a blessing to yourself , go out and be a blessing to someone else. The reward is immediate. You will hold yourself in greater regard if you have helped another." ...God...
"You're sick of knowing you have all these big goals and dreams and yet you don't know how you're going to reach them" bro that hit the spot. Literally where I am in life rn

wow, there are really few people who publish this kind of clips and educational content. If you want to change your life, I would say that Lexnory is the best place to start. exit the matrix and then become super human and in 6 months another person. believe in yourself. all the best
Im 31 this year, still have no idea what im doing right now. Whenever i feel hopeless, this kind of video shows up. By watching it helps me calm down a little bit. So thank you.
Other 31 yo here. Same thing I don't know what I am doing. I had a burnout last year, and can't work since then. Went to a clinic which helped a while and then I fell into a hole again. But honestly? Today I had a good day, and coincidentally this video showed up. Today I just sat down on the balcony and did some pottery work. That kept my mind of the negativity. When I see "The mountain" I am looking at a whole new career path, because I can't return to my old job. But my one step today was just finding something enjoyable and be OK with not having figured everything out jet. Let this be your first step tomorrow... knowing that most of us don't have a clue what we are doing. We are all just bull-sh*tting ourselves through life. You are not alone :).
I’m 57 with a really bad back and I don’t want to work in my business anymore. Too painful and everyday in an absolute struggle. I feel trapped and my own wife doesn’t really understand
I'm 65. My advice to you is, lay the phone down put on your shoes, walk for 30 min each day. It's the best thing to do when you don't know what to do. Oh and, dont waste money buying stuff you dont need. Save hard to go on a world trip that will help you get out of the hole, and who knows who you will meet to enrich your life.
Why am I crying watching this? This has been my life since 2019. I’ve just not felt like I’m progressing. I’m in my last year of uni with 2 months left and feel so scared, stressed and like I’m stopping myself from achieving the goal of graduating. But the “just take one step” has really put things into perspective for me. I’m going to consistently study and keep pushing to be better. Thank you ❤️
“Just be one percent better than you were yesterday, then at the end of the year you will be at least three hundred percent better than you were last year” -My dad
If you're going through a rough time and you feel like giving up, like nothings working and you feel there's no end to this mess. Remember that up until this point in life. your survival rate has been 100%. You lived through all the bad days with success and you kept going despite everything being against you. Don't get discouraged and keep moving forward. This too, shall pass.
I've seen countless videos about Self-Improvement and Goal Achievement - but very few have been as honest and realistic as this one. Realizing that the small Steps bring the Change - is fundamental. And that's something each of us can do. We all have the Opportunity to create what we want. The Challenge is to know what we really want. TY😘
I'll be 63 this October. I've procrastinated for the last 50 years, using BS as fuel to avoid challanging myself. NOT anymore, thanks man, and thank ya mom, she's amazing.
“ The pain of doing nothing will always be worse than the pain of doing something.” Ouch , that felt like a slap on my face. God , give me the strength to change my story. I am tired of being miserable all the time.
I suffer from the constant fear of being not good enough. I would get a pretty good level for art, social skills, even video games...but I would constantly think it's not good enough. I'm so bad at anything. At least that's what my subconscious permanently thinks and makes me believe. It is so hard to keep up the pace of my life because I try to do so much things, that I end up exhausted, anxious and often, burnt out. I can make everything in two days, then sleep for weeks after. It's been two months since I haven't drawn anything. I did just one sketch yesterday, yet I feel like it's not enough, it's not a well finished piece. I work really hard on myself for years with my loved ones. I really want to feel like one step is enough and be proud of myself for once. I will be enough, and that's way sooner than what my brain wants me to believe. Thank you for your video.
@@Starfish125 It's been incredibly better, I've made huge improvements but I still need to work on me. Thank you for the advice, I'll watch it right now !
The "One Step Rule" is a simple but powerful concept that encourages individuals to take one small, actionable step toward achieving our goals or making changes in their lives
My takeaways - Tired of feeling sick - Don't wait , start now - Take one step at a time - Have that progress - Keep consistent - Don't look the whole mountain - Take every single step to make it easier - Doing something and doing nothing are equal you can feel tired but you can more benefit if you do something! Think wisely! So ming , you already have the progress , keep in mind the goal , take a step at a time , and IT DOESN'T NEED TO BE COMPLICATED AT ALL , be easy , organized , breath and smile. You will reach there at the highest peak of the mountain once you take the step progressly and consistently , enjoy! Thank you for this concise and helpful video! I get this already but indeed lessons repeat until you finally change ❤️.
spring 2021. it was the worst time of my life. and i spent the next 10 months, doing nothing. moping, crying, grieving. and then one day, i woke up and i just changed. it was like a switch turned on. i just started to live, i did not care what anyone thought. it was like, i had nothing to lose and i was giving it my all. basically, i woke up and took a step. i haven't stopped since.
THIS is what I needed to hear now. This is great, thank you for this. I'll be 17 this year in march and I've done absolutely nothing good for me. I am in a loop/cycle of suicidal thoughts, letting myself get worse and waiting to die, or get myself back together and try to live and become happy. In the end, nothing is changing. It's really hard honestly I just want to give up, but at the same time I don't and I don't even know why. Changing my life and my mindset feels really impossible. But this video helps a lot, and I'll try my best to give it a chance.
Thank you soso much. :) I will try that habit. I used to read the negatives quotes but I'll try to stick to the positive ones even if I always think the opposite after reading those. But i'll try to change that. Good luck to you too and I wish you the absolute best! Thank you for your time and nice message, it made my day a little brighter :D@@FishWillFly

Many years ago I came across this quote, which has stuck with me: "Positive anything is better than negative nothing." (Elbert Hubbard) It seems good to place the emphasis on "anything".
Overthinking and cycling through negative thoughts is a tough battle I’ve been going through for years now and I hope that I’ll make it through. I’ve learnt that staying present and not having high expectations helps me a lot.
Your cinematography is on point bro! People always be exaggerating online, but your shots actually look movie quality. Thanks for the message too, it’s a good reminder to keep trying.
I'm watching this for the first time and I haven't achieved anything yet. But I've been taking steps every day. Hit a rut and found this. Very sound advice and motivated me to keep stepping. Thank you

It is wild how your decision to start taking one step has led you to making this video and dramatically helping people take their first step. Thank you for the time and effort you put into this video. It’s made a difference with me.
Ive always told myself that each time i think about my goals, the closer i get to actually doing it. If i think about it every day, i am one more day closer to doing what I want to achieve. That was 2 years ago. This year, ive finally made that mark in my life and have been consistently practicing animation which is something i wanted to do for the past 3 years Your video was shot beautifully, not only was it inspirational but was masterfully composed. I can see a lot of attention went into the details of the video. I cant wait to see what you cook up next bro fire👨🍳
I remember watching this video like 3 weeks ago. Since then I’ve logged my mood everyday for 24 days straight, I’ve been walking every day sometimes twice a day. Taking one step at a time was the best advice I’ve ever had even though it’s so simple. So I thank you for making me feel inspired & I want to start creating content on RUclips like you and many others. I’m gonna do it!!

01:25 I was impressed by your mother's advice: take one step every day thinking about your goals and dreams. Don't look at the mountain you are about to climb, look at where you want to go. Thank you for your wonderful sharing
Wow, congratulations on your impressive investment success! Your discipline and focus on delayed gratification is truly inspiring. I'm curious, what are some of the key factors that you consider when making investment decisions? Do you have any tips for those of us who are just starting to dip our toes into the world of investing? Thanks for sharing your story!
The pain of doing nothing will always be more than the pain of doing something. I pray no one ever has to go through the pain of doing nothing.. Lost one year of my life because I was just soo afraid of failing that I simply didn't do anything at all. By the time I woke up, it was too late. The weight of regret is one of the heaviest things one will carry on his shoulders. The day I decided not to let my fear overpower me, and work despite it, is the day I realised that failure simply doesn't matter when you know you have put in your best.. Even if your best looks like giving 5% each day. If I could go back in time, god, I would do things differently. But life doesn't work that way. So, get up. Pick up your pieces. STOP waiting for someone to come and save you- no one is coming. No one ever did. You're the only one who can, will and always have saved yourself.
"I didn't just become instantly successful or anything", but you did. Small victories are still victories. Each step completed is a success. Thanks for the advice, King 👑
I’ve seen many many many videos about productivity and accomplishing goals but this one really struck home, it’s such good advice but people don’t take time to articulate it as you have, much appreciated amazing video 🗣️
One more interesting perspective that suits this video. Your life as it is right now is the result of beliefs, habits and behaviors that seemed just right at first - even though you are unhappy now and feel stuck. But this proves how strong mindsets and habits shape our lives and therefore in a weird way human willpower to adapt well to given circumstances in order to feel good, safe and familiar.
🌹I think the retirement crisis will get even worse. A lot of people can't save because of low paying jobs, inflation, and insane rental rates. And now that home ownership is out of reach for middle class Americans, they won't have a house to retire with either
Rising prices have affected my intention of retiring at 62, working part-time, and building my savings. I'm worried about whether individuals who the 2008 financial crisis found it less challenging than my current situation. The stock market's volatility, coupled with a reduced income, is making me anxious about having enough for retirement.
I completely agree; I am 59 years old, recently retired, and have approximately $975,000 in external retirement funds. Brother, best wishes and long life! I really needed this, I had been going through challenging times lately, which made it even more tiring for me to start what I had always dreamt of. Unlike other motivational videos, you did not try and sugarcoat the process and actually emphasised what really needs to be done at this very moment. I felt an instinct towards resuming what I've left because, like you said, I'm no more thinking about making up to the mountain for now, I am just thinking about starting. Thank you so much, brother! I sincerely wish the very best for your future endeavors, and I am glad that we're all not alone in this process. :)
Thank goodness you brought this up! Truly, investing has changed my perspective on how one can succeed in life; working multiple jobs isn't the optimal way to attain financial freedom and unfortunately, we discover this later in life. Currently earn as much as 10 grand weekly and this has improved my financial life. Great piece!.

she's a known advisor. I actually did look her up curiously and went through her credentials on her webbsite... Top-notch! I wrote her an email, hopefully she's accepting new intakes.
Yeah this is good advice. One thing to add from me: the 'subconscious discomfort of doing nothing' doesn't have to be uncomfortable. It's all in your head. A long time ago, I felt like I had been dealt a good set of cards but my happiness was being limited by my 'discomfort' that I was imposing on myself for a variety of reasons, e.g., knowing how much I had procrastinated, that I wasn't where I wanted to be, that my room was messy, etc. I'm in a much better mental state now where I am infinitely forgiving of myself and instead of basing part of my self worth on my productivity, I pride myself on being able to be happy all the time, now matter how lazy I've been. I prefer to reach this stage first, and then I can work on becoming more productive - it's just chiller. Our instinctive negative feelings are built in to help us survive as animals, but we're not at risk of death anymore so we can let go of all the discomfort:) Thinking about big crazy stuff like the universe and how we are all biologically operating machines also helps me reach this mindset
@@FishWillFly Once you realise that mentally telling yourself off is silly and useless, it's just a question of phrasing things in your mind so those feelings go away. What kind of person is it cooler to be: a person who procrastinates and then starts scolding themselves like everyone else does, making themselves unhappy for no reason, or a person who procrastinates and doesn't care because they see the bigger picture of life and they know that they can't change the past. I have phrases I like to go to when I feel baggage, e.g., 'be comfortable with being uncomfortable', sometimes you feel like you're ALMOST really happy but there's just a few thoughts holding you back, but you just have to sit with that discomfort and be ok with it. For forgiving myself, there's a song by Deb Never called 'Stupid' with the chorus 'I'm so stupid' and it's sort of a relaxing way of forgiving my past self for being such an idiot. Or as I said before, think BIG. Imagine that you have lived through the life of every human before you and now it's your turn in your body. Would you be stressed out about not being productive enough? I think you'd probably just treat life like a video game and have fun if you can, never stressing about anything. Eventually, the instinctive guilt of laziness start to be less instinctive.
Ok thanks!! Honestly I have big dreams but sometimes I get too distracted. I normally procrastinate on studies bc my school sucks and all but I’ll try to implement these tips tyyy

Dude...
I work from 07:30am to 17:30pm and have game dev as a hobby. I know how you feel. Maybe tonight I will push miself into action too😅
I hope you keep doing the work without any motivation. Good luck bro
@@anxils+1
Motivation is volatile, rely on your drive to do the things that you have to get done. It's easy, but it gets easier.
I'm struggling with depression, overthinking, negative thoughts, and my situation just seems too messed up to fix, it feels overwhelming and hopeless. Many times it gets so hurtful, it's hard to keep going, I don't know if I even have goals/dreams anymore, many times I just want to end it, but this idea of one step at a time, even very small, without thinking of the entire mountain your about to climb, that kinda sounds less overwhelming, and more doable. thank you.
Please don't give up

TY😘
“You must change your life to change your life”
Such truth I so often ignore or disregard. Not disregarding this time
I'll be 63 this October. I've procrastinated for the last 50 years, using BS as fuel to avoid challanging myself. NOT anymore, thanks man, and thank ya mom, she's amazing.
I’m sending this to my son. You’ve encapsulated his problem exactly. He needs someone other than me to tell him this. Thank you.❤
“Don’t look at the entire mountain” love it. I have same problem.
My takeaways
- Tired of feeling sick
- Don't wait , start now
- Take one step at a time
- Have that progress
- Keep consistent
- Don't look the whole mountain
- Take every single step to make it easier
- Doing something and doing nothing are equal you can feel tired but you can more benefit if you do something!

Great, my take...

I completely agree; I am 59 years old, recently retired, and have approximately $975,000 in external retirement funds. Unlike other motivational videos, you did not try and sugarcoat the process and actually emphasised what really needs to be done at this very moment. Unveiling Your Hidden Potential by Bruce Thornwood(thank me later)
Does it help?
this is just a bot that promotes that "book" on a bunch of different videos about self improvement
Our instinctive negative feelings are built in to help us survive as animals, but we're not at risk of death anymore so we can let go of all the discomfort:) Thinking about big crazy stuff like the universe and how we are all biologically operating machines also helps me reach this mindset
icl, I think I'm slowly becoming Buddha
Helloo!! Any tips on getting to that level?? I honestly struggle forgiving myself when I procrastinate so I’d love some loll. Thank uuu :D
@@FishWillFly also I don't know who you are but I give you permission to procrastinate all day every day as much as you want idc
