Painting Hot Wheels: Redline Club Paddy Wagon. In this video I work on a 1:64 scale diecast car called a Paddy Wagon made by Hot Wheels. The original was released in the 60's and has been reproduced a few times. I use parts from the 25th Anniversary edition to make a cool custom diecast. It turns out beautifully, have a look!

Man I’m so glad this channel is back
I am too.
I can think of all kinds of neat alternates for the Paddy Wagon. Red Firetruck, White Ambulance, Green Exterminator...
my first thought along those lines would have been to do a military version in a forest green or a desert tan
I think a paddy wagon in REDLINE ROOTBEER would look awesome!
Agreed! Again a 3D printed top with a 1919, or Hires brand Rootbeer. Or something local to you.
We need a classic rat rod build with some primer, rust, and patina. Perfect engine, nice real rider meats, with a ratted out weathered pieced together body. ooh yeah
That car ROCKS! Sweet paint - love the custom touches. Hot Wheels should have done it.
Nice Happy Gilmore reference
The Three Stooges had a short that involved a Ice delivery truck, possibly making your Police wagon into an Ice wagon. Killer wagon btw!
Great job, I remember putting the models together for both the Paddy Wagon and the Red Barron. Ahh the memories of childhood, seems like a couple of life times ago.
This paddy wagon has so much flash, color is perfect.
Nice one. There's an option to brushing on those raised letters. Cut off a piece of dense foam or use a soft eraser as a paint pad. Dip the pad in the gold, blot it out a bit on a piece of paper until almost dry. Then press lightly onto the raised part. I used to keep a piece of takeout Styrofoam lid as a source of pads. If you want to be really fancy glue the foam around an old hot wheel tire or something curved and you can rock it over the letters and only a thin section touches the raised surface at anyone time. Getting the paint nearly dry and thin is the way to go, repeat if you need more coverage.
Yea I gotta give that a go.
@@DiecastResurrection A clean new pencil with a fresh eraser will get you there in a pinch and you can control the roll
Loved the Happy Gilmore plug!!!! As always, great work!!!!
Some kind of "old timey" looking light bar on one of them ought to look pretty dope.
Excellent results on this one, thanks for letting us watch!
Definitely do a candy red with some serious sparkle in it. Your cars are off the hook!!!!!
Fantastic custom Club Redline Paddy Wagon Austin 👏👌👍💙.... looks the business
On the corgi flatbed wrecker, believe M2 hauler wheels will work.
I was thinking the same thing
I'd keep the spun aluminium wheels, buffed up all tarty 'n' smart, (or wicked 'n' crisp, depending on how old you are) and re-tyre them with some suitably sized rubber 'O' rings. I believe these can be bought in big sets, quite cheaply. That's a nice truck, though. I think it's a model of a 5 ton truck made by a long-extinct UK truck manufacturer, Commer.
I'd love to see this painted in an outrageous colour scheme, at odds with it's austere 1950's/'60's heritage.
Since you have a bunch of these whole and parts, would you be interested in trying to make a weathered one? Maybe an abandoned, graffiti, or perhaps mismatched "work in progress" finish?
I second that idea
Those were some bold moves Austin, bold moves ...
1. Awesome build! Love that color.
2. Old Timey Antiques are great! Love the idea of pulling hoods and parts to mix and match. I have those 3 cars too. Got them from my grandmother when I was a kid.
3. 3D printed canopies would be great, then you could use printed graphics or even customize it to have windows.
4. You should try to recreate some Hollywood cars like the Munster Mobile or the Beverly Hillbillies Car
Love it! A good idea for the lettering and details on the top is to lay down a little bit of paint from your paint pen on a piece of paper, and just press the sides down on it, and it will only put the gold paint on the raised areas, much lime embossing.
Exactly what I was thinking ... maybe not paper because it would soak up the paint ... but maybe a wax paper or aluminum foil.
Maybe a block printing technique would work for the lettering. I know with me I can not do fine brush work anymore.
For the lettering, try painting the whole side with a liquid masking or friskit, then lightly sand or rub through the high spots/lettering. Then paint, and then peel the masking material... Should make for some clean lettering...?
yes and no, if you sand or rub you will get a tattered edge which will look fuzzy... you could try wiping the high spots before it dries, that might work...
Maybe my trick for doing decals might work. I apply decals, then clear over the model. After the clear cures, is wetsand to get a smooth surface, followed by another coat of clear. Flowcoating and colorsanding like this makes it that decals are completely flat and smooth in the surface, leaves a super nice and mirror like surface
but then you need to get it crisp in the first place..
@@MatteoPascolini I would recommend using bare metal foil for this. at least if you want chromed or metal-like letters.
I love builds like this they are awesome. I wouldnt mind a custom 80's MR2
Love the Happy Gilmore fingers and back reference. 😂
It looks beautiful...
Can we see it in a green style like the blue too..That would be awesome..
I'd love to see a custom printed cab for one of these too - I like the idea of some decals on a flat side
Very nice build! Would really love to see a Union Jack Paddy Wagon... If you could get a 3D top, that blue with a Union Jack on the top and sides would really rock! (As a nod to the WHO)
Apologies for commenting twice. Those tops might be fun to do cutaway sides - like pillars or with "large-ish" oval windows in a semi-hearse kind of effect? File down all the side details and you have a pretty blank spatial canvas on each side to work with. Just a thought. Oh, and yes, I love the result. Many thanks.
3-D print some redline wheels and turn a 1:18 scale into a redline?
Too bad that I haven't seen any of toy cars; or even plastic model cars that says, Sheriff paddy wagon! None/neither one that's colored green of course.
Best paddy wagon I've seen.
Awesome custom. Love the paint choice. Thanks for sharing your awesome talent.
That looks superb. Beautiful colour. It might be fun to customize one of those cheapo old cars. The silver one is a Rolls Royce, and give it a cheeky paintjob, and some nice new blades, perhaps drop in a new lump. I'm sure that those old cheapies could be made all tarty and smart. Nice one.
Great build !! I thought about doing the roof panel in either a brite or a pearl white, too. ! For your lettering & striping, etc ; I found these markers at Dollar Tree that come in metallic colors. They have gold, silver & white Pearl ,and come in fine tip.! I've already tried them, and they work great for detailing small stuff. Can't beat the buck price !! Love your channel & builds. Loved the Mexican blanket roof Buick too.!
I still got my original HW patty wagon since kid, its all complete but played with!
Grrrreeeetings from South Africa….your paddy wagon looks fabulous, love to see more. You take care and be safe
For tiny little details like that lettering, try drybrushing. Get most of the paint off your brush and then just go over the raised detail several times and let it build up a bit at a time. You'll have a lot more control by applying less paint.
It looks freaking AMAZING your a master at what you do, You should make more of your own Redline club cars.
I love seeing your creative process here! Also, the painted top really makes this one.
Absolutely beautiful you should do one in white with blue lining
Super cool!! Worthy addition to any collection that's for sure 👍🏼👍🏼.
And as for the windshield. With it being a light blue, it actually fits the car better I think with the body choice of paint you used.
Hey DR
Yes this is a Beauty!
.... love the blue and your details.
In my opinion, so far, this is your best 2.0 video; back to having fun with your projects and your humour is becoming natural again😁
Take care Austin
That blue looks awesome!!
That looks dope I just love the colour it makes the car really stand out
Love it! Beautiful color. On the next one you should use the same or similar wheels but lower it--especially in the front.
Awesome work! You can use a new pencil eraser as a stamp got the gold lettering. Just wet the flat part of the eraser with the gold and gently touch the letters. 😎👍
That color pops! I need to stock up on some of those colors.
Paddy wagon looking good .
How about a murdered out "Baddie Wagon"? 30's gangster style.
Awesome job like that color blue
Trippy trivia: the 25th Anniversary cars are now older than the originals were when the reissues came out back in ‘93 🤔
I've got those exact old-time cars. I use them for exactly what you're using them for. The radiators the mirrors anything else I might be able to get off them. They work very well together. Turned out beautiful. Take care.
Nice idea of doing different ones instead of police do a few with different business names from back in the day. I think that would be cool. Maybe 3d print the business names and glue them onto the side so it sticks out? Or just print decals for them? The sky is the limit!!
Super creative. Nice kit bashing.
Excelente construccion de este su propio Redline Club, estupendo resultado, felicitaciones y respetos desde Venezuela.
💯💯💯💯🤜🔥🤛👍👍🤘🤘🤘👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏💯💯💯💯
Great to have you back!!!! I would say do a Jimmy goes to jail theme 🤣 and do another police paddy wagon but maybe add jail bars to the back. I would say you'd need to use the good ol jb quick weld or any new product you'd like to try, and seal the back then use the Dremel to cut through and file to start forming the cylinder bars wide enough to fit jimmy if possible.. I'd say have him go in style in maybe a white and black theme? Like the striped old school uniforms and stick jimmy in the back 😂 Yes? Maybe? Idk...🤷♂️
This paddy looked cool! Perfect shade. Gives it this classic vintage vibe. 🙌👍
I gotta go easy on the Jimmy stuff, I have a feeling we are the reason why Marty plays with a stuffed animal on his channel now. Lol
I really like that paint job!!!!
Your idea of different decals was great. Try just removing the police letters? Make a milk truck, moving van, ..something odd and funny? Great idea.
Awesome idea
Nice touches on the grill, motor
Thats aces, mate. Andy could print some stateside pieces and you could maybe do a farm truck club recline. Cheers, guys
Stake side, not stateside.
Gorgeous results!
Powerfully amazing looking
That turned out sweet. Awesome work👍👍
Beautiful wagon keep up the good work.
Imagine if you had the time to do sweet custom body work on full size cars...sweeeettt
This came out awesome Bro. You got the talent my man, keep 'em coming I really enjoy watching the creations that come from your hands Bro. Thanks for sharing greatly appreciate your time and hard work to put these together and post...cheers mate.
That was lovely. I'd love to see you just take parts and throw them together to make an amazing vehicle.
I know you came back a while ago, but I’m so glad you’re back, man.
Austin, I wonder if you could use a Paddy Wagon and one of the Reader's Digest cars to make a Dragula?
Would be prettyyyyyy pimp
Amazing transformation ,could you get Andy to 3d print a pick up style body for the top and make a nice 1 off?
Very very cool build. Great job
Absolutely gorgeous. I think one more little detail that would have been nice is painting the wheel stem ( center cap) the same candy blue. What do you think?
Very nice, gives the rest of us great ideas
I think a Blood red candy would look sick.
Looks awsome I think it turned out really good.
Turned out really good!!
Gorgeous ! 👍🏁😎
A black metal fleck one would be awesome
Looks good.
Not a fan of the color matched scoops.
I think it would have been nice to add some of the “brass” to the base too.
I think there is something to trying to 3D print a top. Maybe a Wells Fargo wagon?
Maybe try one of those old times hoods with big pipes out the side. Over all, excellent build.
I would like to see what the one would look like with a pearl white body. I think that would be amazing
Turned out really well. 👍✌
Very pretty!
looks a lot better, great job
SWEEEET ohhh man i love it the gold really sets off the blue which that shade of blue is at the top of my fav shades of my fav color which is blue. Now i just need to invest in a cheap airbrush find that blue so i can paint my 1:24 scale 55 Thunderbird that I've had for about 27yrs and mine and my moms fav color is blue i know i wouldn't get your level of greatness
Should make the RLC Countach, that's a really cool one
Another beautiful job, Austin!
looks nice! how about doing a make-under one a hotwheels casting, using those old timey parts. Make a paddy wagon or something look back to stock again, it'd be a different kind of challenge for sure
Austin, I'm pretty sure that's the one you painted during your first live stream.....what a night!
What kind of clear do you use..cause it's so shiny! 😁
I use the real deal automotive 2k urethane
You outta try to make your very own club car.. a diecast resurrection limited edition car if you will. Course you customize cars all the time but one specifically themed. Could get the creative juices flowing!
Liked the video? I BLUBBED it!
wish there was a way to set up pieces in some kind of "Jig" then put the brush in in another "Jig" and have knobs like on a ech-a-sketch to precisely apply paint to things like the letters or trim.
looks crazy good. :) I never understood why they started to mix painted diecast parts with metallic-plastics. in earlier times you could see where the material flowed, so WIKING started to paint their little plastic buggers eventually... after herpa showed it being possible. XD
anyway, great work! even on the lettering... while I feel with you on the letters looking uneven. I had fun trying it on model kits, too. the only thing that worked seemed to be dry-brushing.
I so love your work, I love that flat bed truck.. I came across a RED BARON at the flea market its in REALLY GOOD shape, its the one with WHITE Interior. And I have a few other red line cars too, I have been thinking about getting them all together and selling them, I want to down size and move to a smaller place soon, any ideas where I should advertise my cars? LOVE YOUR WORK! ITS ALWAYS ART TO ME. thanks for sharing your work!!
Great job 👍
again no words. beyond super cool
That’s really sweet looking. Could you sand the sides smooth with an electric sander, then you can make your own decals for it. Are these cars for sale.
Beautiful car !!!!
I bought some junkyard lots off eBay. Got several of the Paddy Wagons and Jack Rabbit Special. Not sure what or when I'll do something with them.
So much nicer than the original 👍👍😊
Nice Happy Gilmore reference.
