      @@jamesmolinaro4461 I as well used to think it was a silly idea, but I think most people just misunderstand it and take it as "if 6 year old cannot comprehend quantum physics fully after your explanation, you suck", instead of having a super simplified explanation that suits the level of the recipient. Richard Feynman had a good interview that kind of touched on the subject, but can't recall which one it was. A classic case of culture taking a quote and misusing it.

      Juat got back from the range where, for the 10000000th time, I forgot that. Hooking, hitting fat, spraying. I stopped and thought "what am I doing?" I wasn't allowing for that stop and fall into the ball. I am 50, and my body doesn't want to do it...I want out of the shot so fast when I am tight or sore. But doing it actually relieves the jarring of mishitting and allows the body to move smoothly through. Mantra in my head "stop, open, compress, clear.". Stop at the back, open my hips just a touch before foreswing, and get low and compress the strike, then clear the body.

    I’ve been working on this since the beginning of the year, and I’ve had some rounds under par. However, I still don’t have it down completely. I will tell you that it will take a little while to get your lead wrist strong enough to make this feel solid, especially if you’ve been used to cocking the wrists “up”, instead of “back”. As the left wrist flattens, or slightly bows, the right wrist will cock more back, instead of up. THAT’S the feeling you want! It feels very strange at first. You’ll even feel like you move your body differently. You’ll feel like your power comes from your “turn”, not your hands. But….. it’s well worth the change. Trust me. You’ll have a more predictable ball flight, hit it further, and the strike will improve dramatically. Great, great video, guys!

    • @aaronclare2682
      @aaronclare2682 2 года назад

      I’m a 4 handicap and have flipped at impact my entire life. I’ll have random rounds in the high 80s or a good round going and hit one off the planet right.
      I’ve been working on this and I can’t tell you how amazing it feels to trust the club face through impact. I still miss left and right and I don’t have it down yet, but my misses are wayyyyy smaller. And it feels like there’s no club rotation through impact which is awesome

    • @jamiesloan7259
      @jamiesloan7259 2 года назад

      @@aaronclare2682 I can tell you for ME…. If I wanna hit a fade, I’ll turn harder, and add more right side bend through impact. The hard turn sorta kicks the club “out” a little, giving me that slight outside/in path needed to hit the fade. The right side bend helps hold the face off a little longer, giving me that slightly “open to path” face that I need. I’ll also finish more low/left after impact. When I’m trying to hit the draw, I’ll feel a like I’m keeping my hands in front of my chest, throughout the entire swing, and I won’t turn the body as aggressively. I’m basically being patient, and allowing the club, and body to move together naturally. The slight body “stall” automatically makes me release the club a little sooner. My swing will actually feel more around me, and “flatter”(if that makes sense). With this swing, I’ll feel myself finishing higher after impact, on my follow through, because I’m slightly throwing the club from the inside/out at the ball. I would experiment with with what “feelings” that YOU need, in order to change path, and face. I hope this helps you, instead of confusing you. Good luck, bro.

    • @aaronclare2682

      @@jamiesloan7259 that’s awesome, I’ll definitely have to try that. I played off a scratch in HS and really miss being able to trust my swing, so I hope to get back to that. I have no idea why my college coaches couldn’t analyze my swing, but I’ve been watching a lot of Grant and slowly implementing stuff. I think this is the biggest key to my inconsistency

    • @jamiesloan7259
      @jamiesloan7259 2 года назад

      @@aaronclare2682 I can tell by the way you talk, that you’re a scratch level player. That’s why I figured that me explaining my swing thoughts, or feelings, might make something “click” for ya. Or, at least give you something that you can relate to. I find it easier to play my fade, but I’ll play the draw if I need to on a specific shot. I can predict my fade better, therefore pretty much eliminating a 2-way miss. My draw comes out as a “block” sometimes, or even a hook. Not good. lol

    • @aaronclare2682
      @aaronclare2682 2 года назад

      @@jamiesloan7259 haha yeah I’m traditionally a slight fader. I was hitting a 3 yard draw on the range when I was working on this, but I’m sure I can work my way to fading it with more left rotation as you were saying.
      I think my absolute favorite thing about this change is, I’ve always been garbage at wedge shots, especially 3/4 ones. I think this is because I get flippy/scoopy with my wrists through impact. I was hitting beautiful low draw 3/4 wedge shots. Every single one wasn’t perfect, but I just made this change. It felt so amazing to just hold off the face and rotate through. I can’t wait to keep working on it, I have a goal to get back to scratch within 2 years (wife and 2 year old make it tough to play a ton)

      It’s not just you, my friend. Taking the right shoulder down, under, and through is a club face stability move(DJ, Tommy Fleetwood). It allows you to hold off the flip, roll, or release longer. Whatever you wanna call it. I bet your club face feels more aimed at the sky through impact, instead of the toe rolling over. ? You have to rotate well to achieve this, and it sounds like you do.

    I have same issue as Matt. There is a device called hack motion you should check out. It’s a lead wrist sensor that measures lead wrist angle at top of swing and then at impact so you can see if your lead wrist is extended or flexed as it should be. It’s also a biofeedback tool to help golfer improve. Be cool if you made videos with all the guys to compare and then track Matt’s progress as well. I’m thinking of buying bc I’m so inconsistent. It’s kind of like a track man for the lead wrist angle. Enjoy watching. Great videos.

    The pause and then allowing your arms to essentially begin the downswing is essential. If you record yourself in slow motion, you can see how allowing your arms to drop just slightly before anything else moves, will put you in perfect position. Additionally, you have to remember to make a full turn back. If you are not getting enough rotation in your back swing, you will fight a slice forever. Full turn back, drop arms first, let the hips take over. With practice and feeling the sensations, it all comes together fairly quick.

After watching this, I went back and watched videos of my swing and my wrist is very cupped. Looking forward to trying some of these drills and getting better!

    Crazy that this is the video today. Literally yesterday mid-round I caught myself cupping my wrist, every drive was going right or I was flipping to try and save it. Hit a pitching wedge out of a fairway on 12 or 13 and it felt completely different than my longer club swings, as I was keeping the face shut. Last couple holes I focused on keeping that face shut by bowing the wrist and hit my best shots of the day.

    I suffered the same inconsistencies. Thanks, I looked at my swing and sure enough I had developed a cupped wrist. Going to the range tomorrow.

    Just reread Ben Hogan’s book and proper wrist bend is one of his three keys to a successful downswing. Took me FOREVER to lose my cupped wrist, but it makes a huge impact!

    I’ve been trying for years to hit that position. A great feeling to produce a bowed wrist. Is the sensation of holding the club face closed during the backswing!
    Closed face at the top = Bowed wrist.

    same thing ive been working on, so satisfying hitting tight draws after months pushing it right, I like to get it flat on the the takeaway and bow it at the top on the way down

    One of my biggest problems. Going to check this first before my swing path. A lot of times I think im swinging slightly over the top, instead I let my wrist cup and end up open at impact. Thanks for the video

    This def helps take guess work out of fixing a big miss. I have a weak to neutral left hand and it’s difficult to work on this without one so loosen it up before trying to implement this into your swing.

    went from 94 club/121 ball speed at the start to 101 club 143 ball speed. went from 166 yards to 220 yards total distance. the difference of hitting it straighter and with a proper load.

    New Cobra clubs fit for you will help for sure. You will likely notice you are able to create even more club head speed once you get it dialed because you will be using the ground forces better. That slight dip left where you are hesitating firing from the top will provide for more explosion up off the ground. My best rounds are when i am keeping the wrist flat but also using the ground best. Keep grinding.

    I would love to take a lesson with grant, he is super technical and knows how the golf swing works. Ideally I would love to get better and play a round with all the guys. It would be so much fun

    I’ve been working on this the past year and it’s been great overall. I’ve been more consistent and gained yardage. I had a cupped wrist and played a draw but I was inconsistent. I’ve been working on this and my dynamic loft at impact.

    Nice video guys. Matt great job learning and Grant you sound like you really know what you’re talking about, great teaching! I‘m practicing the same thing with dropping the arms and shallowing the club, my Pro told me the exact same thing: shift weight to left foot, this will automatically shallow out arms and club to come nicely from the inside.

    Great instruction from Grant. I have no doubt Matt will get that California feeling back! Grant needs 2 things: 1) a sign that says "The Doctor is in" and 2) a magazine rack. We can see that you already have a second patient waiting for you (Stephen)!

    This is great for everyone. I had this issue too. The swing aid that I am currently using that is helping me is the “G-Snap” by George Gankas. It gives feel and audible feedback.

    Today at the driving range was the first time I tried bowing my wrist, which in turn meant today was the first time I ever had a draw. I’ve always had a massively cupped wrist like Matt and always thought it was my grip till now. I was about to give up on ever getting rid of my fade.

  • @iDoit4LoLz
    @iDoit4LoLz 2 года назад +1

    I weakened my grip altogether yesterday and it feels so awkward to hold but it feels so much more stable and it kept my left wrist more in line. Also helped with chipping because it forces my release at the same place.

    Having a bowed wrist (flexion) is one of the best things for a good golf swing for a person with a neutral grip. It helps you hit the ball more square and have better contact on the ball. It also helps teach you how to rotate through the golf swing.
