I agree. Because, George was my hero as a kid & Alan's too. My Mom's hero is Alan, & he's 1 of my huge favs too. I was 5, & knew (by heart), all of George's old classics like: The Race Is On; Window Up Above; Walk Through This World With Me; If My Heart Had Windows; I'll Fly Away (which George wrote & recorded & is honestly, the best version of that song, too); Four O 33; Green Green Grass Of Home; Old Brush Arbors; Things Have Gone To Pieces; Why Baby Why; White Lightnin'; Ruby Don't Take Your Love To Town; Bartender's Blues; One Woman Man; Yesterday's Wine (with Merle Haggard, is the ultimate male duet partner for George then, before, he & Alan got together); & tons more of George's songs. My father, (who's also named, George), listened to The Possum constantly, along with tons of others & that's how I got hooked on Jones. My Dad had cassettes of him & I would always take them in another room when he was at work & play them in a portable cassette player walkman I had then. Loved Jones' music so much. Thank God, Alan, & others believe in keeping Jones' songs & his style alive because, that's what music was all about. Thumbs up to Alan! :)
I agree. George was The King, & he was Alan's hero, as well as the hero of many others too. 1 of my favorite songs of Alan's is, Don't Rock The Jukebox. And I agree with his lyrics, I want to hear some Jones, too. I've always found that it's great to have a good mixture of artists, instead of only 1. George started it all, him & Dolly, for me, that is. And I got hooked on country music so much so, that I have favorite songs from almost all of them. From the 90s or earlier. Too many great ones to pick from, but, I'll always have an extra place in my heart for Dolly & George because, for me, they're my lifelong favs.
I totally agree. Alan is 1 that takes his Hero, George Jones' style of music very seriously. In Don't Rock The Jukebox, he even said, he'd rather listen to Jones. And when he sang, Here In The Real World, for me, it's like listening to Jones sing, The Grand Tour. And when Alan sings, Tall Tall Trees, (which is my favorite fast song of his), it's like listening to Jones sing, The Race Is On. And all of these songs & tons of others are classics. I even loved it when Alan sang with George, 1 of his classics as a duet years ago. The song, A Good Year For The Roses. The Duet is just as much of a classic as George's solo version is. It's a must for everyone to hear.
Very cool of Alan Jackson. Respect. Give George Jones a short spot? I don't think so. George Jones is a legend. That's no way treat an American badass like The Possum. Some suits in a boardroom thought that was a good idea? Not hardly. R.I.P. George Jones Thank you for all the amazing songs. Thank you Alan Jackson for taking a stand and respecting George Jones.
I Was Back Stage That Night when Alan Came Off Stage Walked Past Us With His Guitar and without A Word Went Straight To His Bus ……What A Night To Remember.
I was there when this happened. The crowd went wild when AJ did this. Tears were pouring down my face as my favorite country artist also became my hero that memorable evening. Thank you for showcasing one of my favorite memories!
Long live Country Music ! AJ is one of country music's torchbearers. And his passion to keep that home fire for country music 🎶 burning will live on as he too will pass the torch as George Jones did.🤠👍
I remember that night on the CMAs...it was great!! Alan Jackson is awesome. I had the great honor of playing in a band that opened up for George Jones in 2007..He was such a great guy. I wish country music was still country... it's very few & far between these days...
Yes, I find that there's some who just don't have the vocal ability. They don't have the heart pouring into every word, as Jones did. He sang every song as though he wrote it or lived it. Amazing. I find that Alan's song, Here In The Real Word, for me, is like listening to Jones sing, He Stopped Loving Her Today. It's a song like no other. Love all Jones & Alan's songs too.
Alan is such a great performer. I just finished reading his wife's book. Very well written. My heart broke when I heard about his oldest daughter losing her husband to an accident.
Great job by Alan. Another stand up guy was Faron Young, when a station in Nashville refused to play any of Charlie Pride's record's he called the station's owner and told him that if you're not playing Charlie's records you're not playing mine.
Love AJ! Have seen him and have plenty of memorabilia and music and my stand-up cutout of him...he's always been AWESOME and has the exact same bday as my brother 10.17.58💙 Alan has always looked up to George. Newnan, Ga. did a good job giving us Alan Jackson!
Alan has always been 1 of the best out there. My country heroes when I was born were (The King), George Jones, & (The Queen), Dolly Parton. And thanks to George & Dolly, I became a huge fan of many others like Alan, Vince, Garth, Strait, Waylon, Willie, Trisha, Lorrie, Randy, & tons more. And all belong right there under the wings of George & Dolly. As they are artists who carry on their styles of tradition, etc... The awards shows get a little carried away with the current stuff, & forget all about the roots. And that's why Alan (who's hero was also, The Possum), stood up & said that's no way to treat my hero. And did what he did. That just shows that like The Possum, Alan, is also a country music hero. Alan said years ago who his hero was when he sang, "Don't Rock The Jukebox, I want to hear some JONES". Way to go, Alan. :)
I agree. If I had to pick only 2 songs: 1 fast & 1 sow of Strait's (for me), it's always been: I Cross My Heart (which is like listening to If My Heart Had Windows by Jones); & the other 1 would be: Fool Hearted Memory: (which is like listening to White Lightnin' by Jones). Each set of songs have similar styles or rhythms. Strait's song, Fool Hearted Memory has always been the hardest song to find on record. I tried to find it for years on boxsets, with no luck. Yet it really is 1 of his best & most underrated songs, too. It's a classic like all his other ones are. I hit the repeat on it all of the time. It's a song that really stuck with me since I was a kid.
George Strait and Alan Jackson are like apples and oranges. George Strait and Randy Travis are REAL country...country traditionalists. Whereas, Alan Jackson was one of the first "pop in a cowboy hat" types, who, perhaps unintentionally in retrospect, were participants in the murder on music row. Alan helped kill country music, even if he didn't actually intend to! They ALL say "not guilty", including Alan Jackson. He had a few actually country songs...but most were just pop in a cowboy hat, like the infamous Chattahoochee Hootcheekoochee song.
Way to Alan, I wish they played more country music on the radio. I was raised on Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, George Jones. I am 67 years and music is important at that age or for any age. I repeat Alan Jackson for trying to keep country music alive and well. Because when it's gone it will be to live without it
Why on Earth did the CMA’s ask Jones to play on a portion of Choices?! Bravo for Mr. Jackson for sticking to his guns and standing up for the great late Mr. Jones.

Country music was my childhood.. there was nothing sweeter than being a kid born in 1990, hearing brad paisley and keith urban when they played innovative country music thats since become the formula, and stagnant... to first hear the Beatles.. God what a releif.. like being locked in a castle and finally seeing that day of freedom.. Country music is like the Christianity of the music world.. a chastity belt only proudly worn by those born into it, that feel compelled to be faithful to something without soul.. That is what country music has become, for me... show me one song since 1990 something that can have an affect on me and ill eat some humble pie. until then, there's plenty of talented musicians who Id rather commit my attention than, "where were you when the world stopped turning" cash in and disappear Jackson.
Please let us all help keep traditional country music 🎶 alive, I’m a Caribbean born guy but believe or not Traditional Country Music is very popular in many of the Islands and I’m a diehard fan of Traditional Country Music and all the Country greats.
I'm glad he did that and wish more would stand up to preserve country music. It seems to be diluted down very fast in the past few years. I turned on this last country music awards (2022) show, I could not believe what was happening, I immediately turned and watched the history channel, the so called country music played now days is a discredit to country music.

Great story. George Jones is a total legend, and it's good to see Jackson acknowledge that by throwing it back in the CMA's face.
As always, Alan Jackson is a true artist that has never forgotten his roots. George Jones was a legend as is Alan Jackson.
They should have just done the whole song in place of Pop-A-Top to totally fulfill what George was going to do and defy and piss off the CMAs.
