KIA's warranty covers non-original owners for 60,000 miles, not the original owner 100,000 miles they advertise. I had to look that up on my second owner 2015 Sorento SXL, when the PCV valve failed, drained the oil out of the engine, and seized the idler pulley, requiring new timing chains. Ended up costing me $4K to rebuild the engine.
You rebuilt the engine because you were over the 60,000 miles they advertise? I have a optima hybrid and may have to get a new hybrid battery. I’m under 55k. Trying to do research on how to handle this
We have our second Kia and love it. It is only for that specific engine. The engine in our k5 is part of the smartstream family which has shown to be a good engine family. things happen in the manufacturing process. Like how Honda and Toyota have had oil burning issues.
Disagree. We always buy new, after doing research on the cars we are considering. We always maintain them under the "severe" use schedule, so oil changes every 5,000 miles (never 10,000). We check the oil level once a week, it's so easy takes 3 minutes. While the hood is up look at all of the fluid levels. We keep our cars for over 10 years. Just sold my wife's 13 year old car for $5k and put that money down on a new Mazda.
I have a 2016 Sorento which I have had no problems for 5 years but recently the engine blew and now they will be replacing the engine for free. When I get it back it is going on the market and in the meantime I just ordered a new rav4. Thank god I had all my oil reciets and I am also getting a rental so they can have for as long as it takes.
You'll love the Rav4. We have owned three (current one is the hybrid prime) and they are assume cars. We also just purchased a used 2018 Kia Soul with 80K mikes on it. After 500 miles an $1,800 bill to replace the fuel injectors plus $500 for the rental I had to get while the car was being fixed. So much for the dealers thorough used car inspection.
So I’ve been going back and forth with the warranty company for three months now and it’s just in review. I showed them oil changes and everything. I’ve had this car for less than two years and the warranty is about to run out. I feel like they just don’t wanna pay and know it’s not my fault. This is insane. I lost everything because I couldn’t go to work to pay my rent and had to move out of my apartment onto friends couches. Not even able to live in my car or drive it for work. This has literally ruined my life.
I've owned a 2011 Kia Sorento with a 2.4 4cyl since 2010 (before GDI) with the dealer's purchase incentive 'Tires-For-Life'. After 12 years and 100k miles, besides regular routine fuel and maintenance costs, I have come out of pocket for (less than $2,500) 3 car batteries, four sets of windshield wipers, and just recently CV boots and head gasket and serpentine belt. The old car has developed some squeaks and rattles, but it has been inexpensive and reliable and I'm glad I bought it. I also own a 2017 Kia Soul+ with no issues. Both have had the engine-knock software recall update.
Lol who's life. when the product wears out, that was the life of the product. Companies like to hide the details in the fine print you need a magnifying glass to read at times. You were fortunate. Had the misfortunate experience with a tire company many many years ago, when the tread got down to the wear bars, they told me that was the lifetime of the tread, told them what was the use of their warranty, wont mention the name but the last time I ever bought tires from them again.
aww man... I hope I get a new engine my 2014 Hyundai Sonata just died and is awaiting the dealerships assessment... not certified pre owned bought from CarMax several years ago. oil leak fixed beginning of September barely 3300 miles later the engine seized up oil loss a little over 113,000 miles
Same thing just happened to me July 11, 2023 while at work in the parking lot went to start my car and it was running for about 5 minutes and than just quit as if I shut the engine off . And now I am waiting for an answer from the dealer. And my car is a Hyundai Veloster 2015 and only has 69,000 miles on it. Plus I bought it as a certified Vehicle and I had the same thought that it was covered because that was the way they presented it.
Same thing happened to my 3017 Kia Sportage . They told me that My truck was leaking oil and it was not covered by the warranty that they had out for the kiosk. So I had to purchase a new angine.
If it was leaking oil then it isn't going to be covered under the lifetime warranty. The warranty is due to the engine burning a considerable amount of oil due to a fault in the manufacturing process.
“Oil lights” are for oil pressure not oil level. I can’t believe how many people think an oil light will come on if they are low on oil. Check your oil level every time you fill up with gas or every second fill at least. You will never have an issue if you do this very simple step.
I have a 2015 KIA SORENTO. A couple of months after purchase it had no oil . Dealer run around and then lock up. The engine has a piston slap , that burns oil . KIA HAS A CLASS ACTION SUIT on going. You have to look this up. They took care of me. Love the car ,hate that Engine. I pray I don't need a third engine.
I’m so amazed that Honda , Toyota and many other manufacturers make engines that last way over 100 thousand miles yet all you guys seem satisfied with the bare minimum of 100 thousand and some times way less . And also this engines are failing not to neglect but a defect in the engine and another story telling what they’re junk.
You said you got a new engine for no charge, but it was out of commission for a month and a half. Having no car for that time is costly. I wouldn't touch a Hyundai or a Kia, because they are junk. Insurance companies should stop insuring them, so that Kia and Hyundai go out of business.
It is an issue with the Theta II GDi 2.0L, 2.4L and 2.0T. As long as you keep up with maintenance, Kia and Hyundai will replace them under a lifetime warranty for free.
They probably won't get back to you. They're straight trash. I feel bad for Americans with no knowledge of what is good and what is bad. You work your azz off to buy something nice and you get ripped off. This isn't the 1980s anymore. There is no customer service. Once its paid for by the bank and you owe the bank, nothing can really be done to get your money back. Careful where you spend your money and vote with your dollars. I sure as hell wouldn't buy that junk.
@@queenhoe9006 2015 Hyundai Sonata - same issue oil consumption and metal shavings causing sludge. CVVT replaced twice prior to finding metal and sludge. Oil change 12/5 lost power, lurching and stalling one month later. Consumed 2 quarts in one month! Also certified pre-owned 10/100- refusing to honor warranty even with maintenance receipts 88000 miles.
John, it used to be that people checked the oil every time they purchased gas. With the advent of self serve gas people have slowly gotten out of the habit. This is unfortunate because oil is a consumable and the life blood of your engine. The problem is made worse by a marketing lie promulgated by the automotive industry - the extended interval oil change. Every 3,000 miles is ideal, and 5,000 miles should be your absolute max. If you don't change it that often your wheels will "fall off" a lot sooner. Kia/Hyundai has a problem with oil consumption on their engines. You were very lucky that you got your repair covered, not everyone has. Frankly, I think the third party warranty folks had a good case for not paying because you drove without oil unless there was some indication of catastrophic sudden oil loss. But I suspect you benefitted from some of the legal pressure on Kia about the known problems with their engines. Glad you got a good resolution and I highly recommend that you develop a habit of checking the oil every time you buy gas. It will take you 3-5 minutes but if you do that and change oil at a realistic interval instead of a marketing hype interval you will find that your cars last like mine do - 400,000 to 600,000 miles. My oldest is 25 years old and my newest is 5. Take care of them and they will take care of you and your family.
Engine finish bur got dislodged and shaved off causing fine metal shaving blocking oil to the engine. This is a well documented issue. Now waiting to hear those new Genesis models seizing up soon.
There are Tiny oil drain back holes in the Pistons. Over time those holes can get plugged up with carbon. When that happens the oil has no where to go but up into the combustion chamber causing oil consumption. 3K oil changes plus a annual engine flush can mitigate the problem along with high octane gas since those engine are 10:5:1 to 11.3.1 compression WTF people run 87 octane with those specs is a good question.
Same for my 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. Dealer wants ten years oil change receipts. Who keeps receipts for ten years. Car has original warranty, extended warranty, technical Recall and they are refusing to repair the car with 54,000 miles. Contacted Hyundai USA waiting for answer. My car was well maintained earlier maintenance including Transmission and Anti Freeze earlier.
I am going through this right know and waiting for a finance manager to approve it. I am getting really mad cause just spent 600 on a miss fire issue which means your catalytic converter is getting plugged because of excessive oil burn and it finally know blown the head.
If Hyundai/Kia ever denies your warranty claim on an engine appeal It thru the bbb autoline. Even if your the second owner. As long as the ksds update was done the engine covered regardless. They’ll try everything under the sun to deny/hold up the claim. Shit they didn’t learn from the lawsuit even the new 2022-23 cars have the same raggedy engine issues. On my 3rd engine in my 2018 sonata 🙄🙄🙄
A warranty shouldnt be only for the original owner.. Especially it is a certified used car by the dealer.. Only thing that should cancel a warranty is misuse or abuse.. There is likely a recall or a class action on Kia in your area. So many engine issues that it is difficult to even find another engine unless its used and then the same issue may exist.. Bottom line...Try TOYOTA.. And always look at the reliability of a make & model over several years before u buy....
2nd owners gets 5yr/60k warranty. I'd never buy pre-owned anything unless I get some warranty included & with car market now if you negotiate you might be able to squeeze one in for cheap within the deal seeing as many car dealerships want to move inventory.
My 2016 kia soul has been at the dealership since Dec 22, 2023. I'm in Florida and the state has great laws about recalls thank goodness. So hope when I talk to California, about knowing the laws in FL they shouldnt
These problems are only with the newer turbo gdi engines the 99 to 2006 2.0 2.4 theta engines are much more reliable than these new ones and there very easy to work on only issue was the timing belt that needs to be changed every 70,000 miles other than that the car is running strong to this day with no oil burning not a drop
Scotty Kilmer is always talking about turbo engines being less reliable because the higher psi putting a greater strain on the engine. My 2016 Optima with 51,000 miles has the naturally aspirated Theta engine and runs like a dream. Haven't had a single problem yet.
I have been looking into this since I have a KIA RIO 1.6 Liter Engine.. From what I understand,, Oil does not Circulate through that Engine well at all for a Number of reasons.. There is a Really good Video as to why called ( Why KIA Engines Fail ) The Mechanic Breaks an Engine down and Explains it in Detail... There are 2 Things a Person should look into as the Cause... One is a $15 Dollar the PCV Valve Sticking Causing it to Burn Oil Very Quickly,,, and Beside the Oil Pump Being Inadequate,,,, the Other is the OIL Itself... These Cars Need Synthetic Oils,, and Not just any Oil,,, but more Specifically API/SP + GF-6A or B,, Depending on the Year...Plus You will need to find a way to keep Your Fuel system and Valves Clean...Just adding Fuel Cleaner to Your Gas is not going to do... You need something to go into the Air Intake or a Vacuum Line to get at the back of those Valves... In 2017 when I bought my Kia,,, They didnt really have the Right Oils for these Direct Injected engines in the First Place.. In My Opinion,,, KIA Scarified those Engines in Order to meet Emissions Standards... Tiny Oil Pump,,, The PCV Valve is Easy to Replace,,, and for $15 Dollars I would Replace it every 2 or 3 Years.. I would Spend the Extra Money On Proper Oil as it is Way Cheaper than Replacing the Engine,,, and because these Engines Carbon up.. For $18 Dollars it Probably would not Hurt to Clan those Valves Once a Year.. Watch the Last 2 Minutes of this Video if You want to know why Kia Engines Fail... ruclips.net/video/0n3jim7ylTA/видео.html
last week everything you said Happened to me and I am second owner Kia Sorrento 2015 😢 102,000 miles. I do my oil change in Walmart every three months and I’m going to call this morning I’m worry 😢to pay for repairs the engine.
Knocking=pinking is very dangereous for engine. The internal gap are too big. The quality of oil is the cause. The engine stress to the start engine. The engine must be warm a little bit. Do not force the engine more than 3000 rot/min.
No more Kias or Hyundai for me . They will jack you around and waste your time , moving on to Honda, Mazda or Toyota . I have 2 kias and 2 Hyundai’s . I paid for their Certified warranty crap from Kia that is Fidelity insurance. Run
Mazda is currently having oil burning issues, Honda is known to have oil issues, Toyota had oil issues too. No brand is really safe. Honestly unless you're buying a brand new car, don't get the extended warranty. Most of the time its just getting more money from you.
The dealer was trying to get the motor under 3rd party warranty so the tech and the shop get paid a little t more e when it fell through they just did the job under actual warranty which they should of done from the start.
What’s happening these engines are getting metal shavings in crankshaft oil passages and causes oil starvation then it grenades the engine. There a class action on the theta 2 engine.
A little clickbait, Kia didn't deny your warranty, a third party scam warranty company denied servicing your engine for a completely bs reason. "We don't cover burning oil." Like.. did you tell them your engine is seized too?
I bet the cap and rod bearings locked. The design flaw is due to the piston rod being too short and putting that stress on the bearings. Both Kia and Hyundai together posted 200 Billion loss in Q3.
What the heck happened to Hyundai/Kia? My impression was that they were really making great strides with regards to quality and reliability. Back in 2010 (or thereabouts), I even remember talking with a tow truck driver, while he was towing my Oldsmobile, and he recommended, based on the the make of the cars he towed, that I buy a new Hyundai. And my co-worker at the time owned a Kia, and it was very reliable. I had to buy a new car last year and almost bought a Kia, because of the warranty. But after watching all the RUclips videos about issues with Hyundai/Kia, I ultimately bought a Mazda 3.
They don’t leak they burn it. First they burn a quart or two between changes. Within a year it’s a quart a week, then after that comes the bang bang boom! Even if you spend 30 seconds researching these cars you would instantly know the engines are trash and they have been trash for a decade.
So Kia’s CPO warranty is an extended warranty handled by a third party administrator? That’s shady. I’ve purchased CPO vehicles from other manufacturers and the CPO warranty is backed by the manufacturer. Wow I’ll never buy a Kia!!!
To be fair, some dealers may go to a third party company for warranty. Dealerships try to sell people things all the time. A dealership experience never defines a brand. If anything it would be on the dealer instead of Kia.
So it sounds like these have bad engines. But people are also unsure of how much oil is in their engines. Why would that be? Have they heard of a dipstick? Its a bit strange imo.
All I ever had was Hondas and Toyotas They are good cars but even they are having problems now days You heard about the CRV having the gas in the oil that's why I didn't buy a Honda at the time! And they were having problems with the accords too
@@tonifonseca9178 Honestly most people try to act like Honda and Toyota have never had issues. Me personally, I would rather get the Kia or Hyundai because I could pay less and still get a more premium interior than many of their competitors. Plus, brand reliability doesn't matter too much if someone gets a new car every couple years. But also doesn't matter if someone plans on keeping it for a while because any car can be reliable if the owner maintains the vehicle.
Problem is Toyota and Hondas don't cost a little extra. The dealer markup on even used Toyotas and Hondas are outright ridiculous. They shouldn't cost as much as a newer model used Corvette and yet they do. It's very easy to see why people don't spring for Honda and Toyota given the price difference. An old used Rav4 with over 100K miles in the northeast states can still cost close to $25,000 grand. That's just ridiculous for a used car with that much mileage. And a brand new Rav4 is closer to $35 -$40K after dealer markup. Most people don't have that to throw away on a car.
I got a new engine for my 2015 kia optima I called 800 kia you cant take it to a dealer without calling the 800# first and give the vin they told me it was totaly covered after that the dealer took it rite in and in 5 days I had a new motor
The 1.8 liter engines in the 2014 models are perfectly fine, its the 2.0 liters that are junk and fire hazards. look up Scotie he did a video of one with over 200k miles on the engine still running strong, i highly suggest useing high quality oil in any vehicle ams oil is ths real deal. Its expensive but its worth it, for the added engine protection and cleaning that it does.
So he climbed a hill. Hard on the engine. Then it just died. Was the oil lite on when you were climbing the hill or were you off in lala land. You knew you were having a problem why didn't you pay attention to your car?
My sons 13 kia soul with 80k had a recall for the engine and the dealer ship said they had to get it approved through kia. I had to do two ecu upgrades first. Well we put a clutch in because the socalked extended warranty didn't cover it. Well, now neither knock sensor or rpm tack dont work it wont start with the knock sensor hooked up.
KIA never gives the 100,000 to the second or other buyer. You should of said to them the engine has a problem under the recall. Fix it. The engine recall is for over a number of years going back to at least 2016 and I think it was even later.
I have a 2015 Forte that's burning a quart of oil every 300 miles, not a single puff of blue smoke. Anyone that owns a Kia or Hyundai should check their oil frequently.
I have the exact same car and year with 75,000 miles on it and it burns oil sometimes 2 quarts after 1,000 miles after and oil change. There is currently a class action lawsuit over this.
so they're sayin' if a car changes hands the warranty is void? 😂 i bought a 2yr old civic from a non honda dealer, it had an issue that honda fixed under the original warranty no questions asked.
Remember ANYTIME you hear tapping from ANY car stop asap don't be lazy and think I can make it home people today never check or service anything anymore I always check all my fluids even if I know the car doesn't burn any oil ignorance is not an excuse
Let me ask you a question did you keep up to the Kia mantenace agreement?? Because it specifies you void the warranty if you don't keep up with their maintenance. My wife's Kia is having problems..it just under 100,000 miles..thank you
All car require proper maintenance or warranty is voided. Check your oil once a week and while the hood is up look at all of the fluid levels. Change your oil every 5,000 miles not 10,000. It's not Rocket-science.
Hi John. I really need your help please. I have a 2014 Kia forte with 2.0 gdi engine. And 3 weeks ago It started to make a knocking noise. I took it to the dealer.
Stay strong, buy a Toyota or Honda when you’re back on your feet
Your fault. Grow more. Create responsibility in your personality. star saving money and organize your life.
Rod bearing failure common symptom on 2 and 2.4 engines
Same thing happened to my 3017 Kia Sportage . They told me that My truck was leaking oil and it was not covered by the warranty that they had out for the kiosk. So I had to purchase a new angine.
If it was leaking oil then it isn't going to be covered under the lifetime warranty. The warranty is due to the engine burning a considerable amount of oil due to a fault in the manufacturing process.
Sad. Sell it for as much as possible and buy a used Toyota rav4
@@binxthekitty54 Toyota or any other brands all have their recall issues, dude. Not just Kia. Look it up!
Our 2016 Kia Sorento burns about a quart of oil every month. Not once has a warning light come on to warn me my oil is low. Definitely a problem.
Same with my 2016 Kia Soul. My oil can be low to the floor and my check oil light NEVER comes on. I just have to be mindful of it myself
I totally agree with you . They are leaving customers hanging high and dry .
@ Alan Scobie I totally agree with you, I would never buy a Kia or a Hyundai. They are just junk.
Yep. Straight trash.
Agree 100% Toyota or Honda. Are great vehicles
They covered my new motor. I immediately sold it. The motors are junk and kia knows it. A multimillion dollar class action suit held them responsible.
That's exactly the way my KIA died a couple weeks ago 10 DAYS after the warranty expired. Waiting to hear back from KIA. 🤞
It is an issue with the Theta II GDi 2.0L, 2.4L and 2.0T. As long as you keep up with maintenance, Kia and Hyundai will replace them under a lifetime warranty for free.
you will never here back
They probably won't get back to you.
Also certified pre-owned 10/100- refusing to honor warranty even with maintenance receipts
88000 miles.
Did you hear back I’m in the same situation?
I had a new 2012 Sorento - engine failed. 4 cylinder. I was finally given a rebuilt motor from KiA. That rebuilt motor crapped out after 60 k.
Never buy an imitation car, that comes with an imitation warranty
Not even in a dream do they come to mind. The engine oil issue is still going on on even the newer models.
My 22 Kia Sorento s hybrid AWD was towed to the dealership back on may 25 @4500 miles......it's still there!!!! I had only made 3 payments on it.
Lite viscosity engine oil like 0-20 w will burn through the engine with no sign of smoke because it's so light. Subaru has the same problem.
Had the same car 2016, drive it for 2 years then sold it to Carvana. After I sold it started hearing about the problems...
I bet the dealership doesnt want to do it because the price the warrnaty is willing to pay, its been killing shops from what I hear
Never buy any Kia or Hyundai in the 4-cylinder those are the nightmares with virtually every situation going back 15 years, simply go with the 6..
This crap is still going on in 2023. My sons 2018 70K mile Sorento just blew up after he made his final car payment. Nice car except for the engine.
I had my engine changed by Kia, the dealer gets paid to install the new engine because of the recall
I'd never buy pre-owned anything unless I get some warranty included & with car market now if you negotiate you might be able to squeeze one in for cheap within the deal seeing as many car dealerships want to move inventory.
best to buy a Toyota. i know a person who got theirs denied because the knock sensor recall wasn't done.
It's the ksds and it a known recall. A class action suit happened .
Happened to my car and they wont help me.
Look it up. It's crazy.
Did you end up solving anything?
@@robertbailey1838
DOHC are the best emgines.
Those are not new engines they are putting in cars. They replaced mines, as well, and the car caught fire months later.
After my Kia Optima blew at 86,000, it took 3 days to replace.
THEY know what happened. Piston ring pins. 2.0, 2.5 shit blocks
Our Kia Rio is burning oil with 105.300 miles. Everything else has been good with our Car. I’ll check that video you mentioned. Thanks
This comes down to due diligence, researching your warranty and knowing your vehicle .... Buyer beware
last week everything you said Happened to me and I am second owner Kia Sorrento 2015 😢 102,000 miles. I do my oil change in Walmart every three months and I’m going to call this morning I’m worry 😢to pay for repairs the engine.
You gotta pay?
@@queenhoe9006 probably cases of people neglecting to maintain their car
The dealer was trying to get the motor under 3rd party warranty so the tech and the shop get paid a little t more e when it fell through they just did the job under actual warranty which they should of done from the start.
my kia 2016 soul has 250k miles on it my biggest fear is that damn engine going out
What’s happening these engines are getting metal shavings in crankshaft oil passages and causes oil starvation then it grenades the engine.
Oil filter could have been loose leaking oil at a slow rate
They don’t leak they burn it. First they burn a quart or two between changes. Within a year it’s a quart a week, then after that comes the bang bang boom! Even if you spend 30 seconds researching these cars you would instantly know the engines are trash and they have been trash for a decade.
Deeeerp
In a world with Toyotas and Hondas, why would anyone buy a damn Kia? Pay a little extra and get a reliable car
@@queenhoe9006 agreed..
Get rid of it and buy a Honda don’t roll the dice.
I got a new engine for my 2015 kia optima I called 800 kia you cant take it to a dealer without calling the 800# first and give the vin they told me it was totaly covered after that the dealer took it rite in and in 5 days I had a new motor
Carl my 2011 Sportage is a push button start. Just FYI. The local dealer has been screwing with me. Totally another story.
I know this is hindsight it's also intelligent site you should have bought a Honda or a Toyota
What did they require you to submit for the claim?
The 1.8 liter engines in the 2014 models are perfectly fine, its the 2.0 liters that are junk and fire hazards. look up Scotie he did a video of one with over 200k miles on the engine still running strong, i highly suggest useing high quality oil in any vehicle ams oil is ths real deal. Its expensive but its worth it, for the added engine protection and cleaning that it does.
That’s why I drive a Honda.
So he climbed a hill. Hard on the engine. Then it just died. Was the oil lite on when you were climbing the hill or were you off in lala land. You knew you were having a problem why didn't you pay attention to your car?
Our 2017 Kia Sportage engine just lock too with 86,000 miles. arrgg
Kia and dealer indepently operate.
It is U.S. law.
Kia can't directly control the dealer.
If you receive a call from Kia, It means Kia paid it.
My sons 13 kia soul with 80k had a recall for the engine and the dealer ship said they had to get it approved through kia. I had to do two ecu upgrades first. Well we put a clutch in because the socalked extended warranty didn't cover it. Well, now neither knock sensor or rpm tack dont work it wont start with the knock sensor hooked up.
my 2018 kia with 2.0 engine did same thing right at 100000 miles extended warentee covered it all~
Any updates?
KIA never gives the 100,000 to the second or other buyer. You should of said to them the engine has a problem under the recall. Fix it. The engine recall is for over a number of years going back to at least 2016 and I think it was even later.
The lesson here is don't buy a Korean car. Putting it in the garage is also dangerous because of fire hazard.
I have a 2015 Forte that's burning a quart of oil every 300 miles, not a single puff of blue smoke. Anyone that owns a Kia or Hyundai should check their oil frequently.
No offence but your first mistake was buying a Kia in the first place... you got lucky, take this chance to get rid of it.
I thought your warranty was denied...but they accepted it? I must have heard something wrong, but your engine was fixed in the end
I have the exact same car and year with 75,000 miles on it and it burns oil sometimes 2 quarts after 1,000 miles after and oil change. There is currently a class action lawsuit over this.
Change your oil every 6,000 km and use synthetic oil and synthetic oil filter.
so they're sayin' if a car changes hands the warranty is void? 😂 i bought a 2yr old civic from a non honda dealer, it had an issue that honda fixed under the original warranty no questions asked.
Sounds like the dealer did and ate the cost to make you the customer happy.
I had 2 year f4 sir conditioner had to be replaced, stalled and towed . l just got rid of the kia l got toyata instead.was mistake getting kia.
