Rum is honestly the best place to start for collectable spirits. My experience has shown me that you'll get rums of comparable age/quality for a fraction the price of Whiskies.
The age on rum however has no legal binding. In most of the rum producing countries the distillers can decide for themselves how and why they stage certain rums certain ages, sometimes its a average age of all the barrels, sometimes they have integrity and use the whiskey method (lowest age barrel that went in there counts), often its the age of the oldest barrel that went into the blend. You have quite a few brands who put drops of old rum (like 21 or 18 or 25 yr old rum) and then call the whole blend 25 years of age.
@@pyotrilyichtchaikovsky3733exactly, and on top of that Rum producers don't need to disclose flavouring additives, whereas Scotch and American straight whiskey can't even have any additives other than caramel colouring.
Four Square blew my mind. Never knew Rum could be so entrancing. . . Just what I need, another liquor to start collecting.
Sure does taste better on a friday night
@dr.robert d. lucas I love Barbados Doorly’s Rum. ruclips.net/video/2LJMzd9n2eI/видео.html
@dr.robert d. lucas I love rum and quickly fell down the rabbit hole of learning and growing my collection.
@dr.robert d. lucas I am going to get me some rare Jamaican Rum.
Been trying rum for years now just like the taste had both of these besides four square and flora de Cana 18yr isn't the best go either their 25yr or just buy the12yr not getting much better with the 18yr compared to 12yr but the 25 yr will make you believe your not drinking rum. Next one if you want a mixing rum or just a fooler tasting rum might be a little harsh unless your a sriaght drinker is 896 8yr cost about 22 to 25 us dollar. Great rum very full flavor but not overly sweet and good oak. Last would be El Pasador De Oro Rum XO about 30 to 40 should be in a white box very addicting nose and the taste fantastic so much going on there fruits Carmel vanilla and oak goes smooth and you will love sniffing this rum.
I'm so excited that you did this video! I've only started on sipping rums, but I've been wanting to learn and drink more of them. Thanks for giving me a heading on what to try next!
I rarely drink but when I do I sit back, relax and sip on my Flor De Cana 25.
I think all these drinks taste horrible .......I wish he had kept his reaction after he took a sip lol....I just like the feeling I get while I am drinking.
@@kevinfenly8598 you only focus on the alcohol your palate isn’t trained
I was mulling over trying rum and here Jeremy goes and talks me into it!
I'm actually proud to see Flor de Caña in one of your videos. That magnificent rum is made in my humble country Nicaragua, and it is truly a jewel that represents our culture and traditions, I grew up watching my dad and the rest of my family drinking Flor de Caña in special occasions. I'm happy that you like it, excellent video!!!!
It's a fine drop
I recently got a bottle of theCentenario18.It's a macnificent ru,m.I really like that it has no added anything
Even with no added sugar,it is very sweet.added sugar is not necessary.
One of my new favorite rums, and.a tribute to Nicaragua
@@scottgibson6735 Man that's awesome!! Glad you got a bottle of the Centenario 18. Actually I have the Centenario 18 and 12 at home right now, both are great, but man the #18 is by far my favorite. I need to try the Centenario 25, though.
The FDC 18 is great for the money...the 25? Vastly better. You get immense quality for your hard earned cash.
Nice nose, smooth finish. Well worth finding.
@@orion2250 Thank you for the insight!!! I will definitely be trying Flor de Caña 25 years
Glad to see a new video. Literally just finished the last one... good timing.
Same LOL
The editing on this one was hilarious (the office, Chappell, etc.) love Leaf&Barrel! Headed over to the leaf now! Thanks for all the hard work. One of my favorite channels by far!
Not a rum drinker previously, but recently returned from a trip to Cuba where we drank Santiago de Cuba 11 year almost exclusively. I'm a rum drinker now! Upon returning home, I've compared it to Appleton Estate 12 year and Diplomatico. The Diplomatico comes close but falls short. The Appleton Estate not even close. If you get the chance to try Cuban rum, take it!
Cuban Rum is so different than others, smooth like silk. Havana Club is the export, but there are many domestic brands. Ron Mulata Is very popular on the island and Cosario is another fine mixing rum. Whenever I am overseas, I always look for Cuban Rums to bring home
Can't go wrong with Cuban rums for sipping. Though as a Jamaican (albeit a prideful one) if you do wanna delve into more Jamaican rums I'd say most of the Hampden distillery products are very good (specifically Trelawny Endemic Birds series or HPDN Book Edition) Smith and Cross is another good one (especially for whiskey sippers). But for Appleton Estate and Plantation it's kind of hit or miss. The AE 15 year aged Black River casks are pretty decent, but the older 21 yr and up are really what you want if you can find them. I haven't tried them yet, but I've also been told some SE Asian and Polynesian rums are very good for sipping: Don Papa from the Philippines and Manawa from Fiji.
I love the Foursquare 2007. It’s fantastic as an entry to rum from bourbon.
Man, I just came across ur channel recently, and my goodness... I think I've binged ur entire vid archive! Genius, bro! Ur channel is my new go to! Fantastic content. Keep it up! Cheers!
We had a Flor de Cana sales rep stop by and give a tasting from the blanco through 5s, 7s, etc all the way to the 30. Absolutely fantastic distillery. My favorite for the price is the 7 or 12, but the 18 is great as well.
I've just bought a bottle of Diplomatico, about £38 in the UK. Had a glass of it before and loved it. Appreciate your review which is very honest. It is sugary, but works for me
Like the flor products, the 7 year is a great mixer as well as there 4 year white rum. The Zaya that came from Guatemala years ago is still my favorite.
Always looking forward to the episodes. Thanks.
Foursquare will be my next purchase. Just ordered a bottle of el dorado 15 demerara rum and flor de cana is also on the list. Thank you for what you do for us with your videos. It means more then you know to me. Cheers Man!
I also just recently started learning about different rums. I didn't realize they could be so different. Seems like rum is every bit as diverse as whisk(e)y, despite the more narrow geographic range. I've been smitten by Jamaican rum. That banana/caramel/oak funkiness is great. Smith and Cross is the most high-falutin' one I've tried so far, though.
within 5 minutes i already learned so much... subscribed!!!
Finally you are back 🔥
Great to be back love these episodes
Great episode man! I have to try those other two. Cheers. Glad to see a new episode!
I bought Diplomatico when it was $30 nice and smooth.
Your Videos are like a good therapy to me🤙🏽
Drinking the beautiful Mount Gay XO as I watch your excellent review.
Finally! I love rum! Love your channels!
Thanks for another great one Jeremy. Cheers.
Your videos are so informative and super entertaining! Please keep doin you! Also I love the edits 😂😂😂
El Dorado 15 goes awesome with cigars. I’m loving the leaf & barrel videos man! I think I’ll pick up a Flor De Caña. Sounds like the one for me out of these three.
I explored rum a few years ago and had some good fun learning about the different kinds (English, French, Spanish traditions) and made some poor purchases before I found out about the lack of "rules" in this world of spirits. At the end of the day I settled on Foursquare rums as my preference because Richard Seale is a distiller who keeps it real and the exceptional cask series is awesome. And I have also discovered how well rum goes with a Padron...Come to think of it its time for both right now! Dig the leaf and barrel. Cheers.
Just acquired my first bottle of Four Square last week -- completely new to Rum (lots of bourbon and scotch under my belt) and I'm blown away. I, like you, will now pour a dram of FS and take out a Padron!
Mount Gay is also great. Also from Barbados. Basically rums following some rules are from Barbados, Jamaica/St. Lucia and Martinique/Guadeloupe (Rhum Agricole). Usually it means no sugar (or other additives) added. I would suggest those island as a main source of rum to everyone.
Lukáš Havel .....don’t forget Haiti. 15 year Barbancourt is excellent.
I love rum. I enjoy Muddy River Carolina Rum. It’s aged for 4 years in charred new oak barrels and its single barrel. They are working on their 8 year now...can’t wait!!!
Jeremy, I love bourbon, rye, whiskey and especially rum. There are some incredible sipping rums out there for you to experience. Foursquare for sure, Ron Zacapa XO as mentioned above, Don Q Gran Anejo is a nice dry rum that would go well with your cigars, and Havana club Maestro from Cuba. You do have to get the last one while out of the country. I've been exploring all of these delicious spirits for the last 5 or so years. You drink whiskey before 10am and you're an alcoholic; you drink rum before 10am and you're a pirate!! Aye, matey!!
Glad to see you back man, hope all is well. Just tried 1792 barrel proof, outstanding bourbon! Like to see it in an episode.
Wasn't much of a Rum guy when I first started drinking, but as I tried more and more rums, I started to love it. Just tonight, I tried what's become my favorite rum: Reykjavik Rum. It's a rum from Iceland. My parents got me a very small bottle as a gift when they were coming home from England (they stopped in Iceland), and I was very surprised by how smooth and refreshing it is, Sadly, it seems I can only get it if I go to Iceland, so it'll be a while before I get my hands on any of that again XD. Great video, mate.
Barrilito Rum out of PR I’ve found is a great sipping rum. I get the 3 Star, but it goes to 5 Star. 3 Star is ~$50. You can’t find it just anywhere in the US, so you’ll have to google.
Just bought a Diplomatico yesterday, perfect as a dessert drink!
Yeah i'm a scotch single malt , bourbon fan & i've just recently started enjoying fine rums inc foursquare thanks to following ralfy's vlogs, like your content
Great introduction to Rum. Thanks for the video Jeremy.
Hey Jeremy, nice to see that you are into rum, perfect with cigars! You should try Santa teresa reserve 1796 top 5 rum in the world for a few years.
Loved watching this episode! You have to do more RUM EPISODES!! 👍😁
I have the 2005 release of that Foursquare which is absolutely superb. Tested it out on some whisky loving friends of mine and they loved it.
Love that you have the Evan Williams Bottled in Bond on the shelf. It's one of the best for the price in my opinion.
100% best under $20 bourbon
Dope episode, Flor de Cana is my go to... Last weekend purchased a bottle of Zacapa.
I'm so glad to see the run from my country "Diplomatico" in this video.
Very well done review, very informative. I tried the Diplomatico and Foursquare 2005. Foursquare was in different league. Have not had Flor De Cana, but had Appleton 12, Pussers, El Dorado 12, 15 and Zacapa XO. ED12 and 4Sq 2005 are my favs.... Capa XO not as sweet as others of that type, I see why it's many peoples fav rum.
I’ve been binging you ever since I saw your desk video and I am just completely obsessed with your persona
he is such a “badass but funny uncle” vibe
Great to come across your show for the first time. I'm a scotch guy, but also love rum. Yeah, kind of like you, I always associated rum with getting drunk in high school on cheap white rum. Didn't know there was such a thing as sipping rum till about 10 years ago when I was on tour doing a musical (I'm a musician) with a bunch of ex-navy guys who put me on to GOOD rum. Cheers!
Awesome review Jay!!!
Glad to have you back😂😂😂
Now omw to the leaf😂😂😂
Foursquare is good stuff. Glad you had that rum as one of your selections.
I'm not 3mins in but your open mind has me enjoying this very much as a fellow whiskey lover
I just watched this because I got talked into one of those Camachos. I never smoked flavored cigars until now. Short story, you are absolutely right about the Four Square. I was able to get some 2010 at a local place for $85 and it is delicious. I found it to really open up with in a rocks glass with an ice cube in it. Lots of fabulous flavors in this stuff. Thanks for the info.
I’m a Bourbon newbie and you got me hooked on Elijah Craig! Can’t wait to try these Rums as well! Appreciate you!
Enjoy!
Love that whisky!
I’ll have to try these. My favorite is Eldorado from the Demerara region of Guyana. They have given us Eddie Grant and perhaps the best rum in the world.
just took a look at your show and i am loving it. I will tell you try some more of Barbados rums we have a long history with our rum you will love them
These 3 are great, Diplomatico is almost like a dessert RUM, great tasting. Definitely on the sweet side still tastes very good.
tried that last summer, was one of those mini bottles, but i enjoyed it. Now i'm curious about the other 2
Loved this video....love rum ...... cant wait for the next video
Brother had to subscribe. Finally some man shiiiiii on RUclips! A lot of your videos reminds me of the same interests my father had. Watching your videos gives me fond memories of my Dad smoking a cigar on a very special occasion or sipping on some fine scotch on a Saturday night. Thank you for reminding us all to enjoy the simple pleasures. Thank you for giving me more memories of my old man.
Great video, interesting to see a look into nice rums from a bourbon drinkers perspective. I drink bourbon almost exclusively. I’ll have to grab a bottle of the four square for sure.
I think you’ll dig it man! 😉👍🏻
Love the Diplomatico Reserva with my cigars. Never saw the Foursquare, need to find that. Never knew this channel existed. Subscribing now. 👍
Welcome to the escape place of many like minded guys
Been my go to for years with good cigar can't wait ti see pairing with cigar
Thought diplomatico was aged in sherry barrels
Lighting on point this episode, my man!
Awesome stuff man. I like rum a lot it’s my second favorite to bourbon. I’d love to see some more rum selections in the future
I used to be a Zacapa XO fan. That was up until I tried Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva at the "Big Smoke" in NYC many years ago.
Recently received a bottle of Four Square Nobility. Looking forward to giving it a try. Thanks.
i love the Don Papa Rum nice drink, got introduced by a work colleague at an After work. Definitely recommand it now
Love your vids Jeremy! Greetings from Orlando FL ✌🏻
Great details in your review, thanks
I'm a rum drinker and glad rum is getting a little bit of love from you lol
That's it. I'm subscribing, beard like that, consistent office references and a good sense of humor, also Bobs Burgers is my favorite.
Beard always gets me subbing
Always like your reviews thanks
I gotta have Diplomático in my house all the time for my Sundays "Leaf & Rum" Nice video!
Love Rum but am new to the game! So this is helpful thank you!!
I like to use the Diplomato for Cuba Libres. Because it's so sweet I only use half an ounce but the flavor is so strong that you only really need that half ounce.
I was exactly looking for a borderline between liquor and rum on the level of sweetness so thank you for the review :)
Great review i've had Flor De Cana 25, and Diplomaico liked them both.
I've had all three and they're very decent rums but my fav rum/cigar pair is the cuban Havana Club Maestros Rum and a Montecristo N°4 Cigar. Good stuff!!
nicely done, Mr Siers! I enjoy your videos
You are a funny guy and like your straight-up delivery.
Really enjoyed this.
I enjoy Pussers or Prichard's Private Stock for straight sipping. Pussers uses wood pot stills, and Prichards is aged in charred oak. Both are exceptional, but different, with the the former being pure traditional rum, and the latter having some bourbon hints, and lovely buttery vanilla and caramel notes.
The “that’s what she said” clip came outta nowhere but had me dying of laughter lol
By far Flora De Cana is my favorite rum. Bought a 25yr in St. Lucia for about 130.00. Well worth it. Sipped on it for about a year!!
I love Naked in Jamaica Rum. It’s a Florida product and it’s a dark, spiced Rum that goes down smooth!
Hi Mr.Siers glad that you're back making your videos. And now you doing that report on Rum! How about if sample some Don Q. Thank you for reading my coming. And I hope you keep on doing videos.
Hola, mil gracias por el video, muy interesante la comparación entre los tres rones. Podrías probar el Ron La Hechicera?
Great review!!!! Dig it man 😎👍👍👍👍
My go to rum is Pampero Anniversario......in the leather bag....and Zacapa....
Amazing content! quick question though, what camera do you use, the colors and crispiness make that lounge and whiskey look heavenly.
Just wanted to stop by again to say i just saw my first ad with you about the damascus knife. I like those to.
Jeremy, love the channel. I'm a whiskey guy through and through, but for Rum, you got to try Kirk & Sweeny 23. My go to.
Thanks for the rum advice
When Im sick I always drink Flor de caña 👌👌
Whoop Whoop! Nicaragua babyyyyy!! Lol. Good stuff brother! Good review as always. 🥃
Hello from World Golf Village! Love my Zacapa 23 and Negra, but the El Dorado 15 is wonderful!
After many Rums, Flor de Cana anything is my fav.. Sugar cane grown in volcanic soil at the base of a volcano is pretty cool. Four Square is the Walmart of distillers. Nice review. Should taste each with that Cigar, makes totally different profile. Thanks!
Holy rum sauce Dave Chappell edit had me dying of laughter!
Lol great reviews your the man. 😂
Just stumbled on this, great vid, take a subscription!
As a fellow Kentuckian, I actually started with rum back in the day before making my way to bourbon. As many have commented, el dorado 21 is fantastic but comes in at $100 a bottle. For something a little more in line with the other rums in this video I’d say the el dorado 15 at $50 can’t be beat. When I go back to rum that’s where I go.
Also if you like the flavor profile of the diplomatico but find it too sweet I’d recommend trying the pampero aniversario. I find it similar but less sugar forward.
Oh snap, just found you today because I'm about to get a house and wanted to build a desk of my own. Didn't know you were into rum too! Respect from Jacksonville, brother.
*What a beautiful set you have there*
Zapaca Equita 23 and Dictador 20 - the go to choices for everyday sipping rums :)
I have not had the honor to taste the other 2 rums but Diplomatico is by far the best rum I've had and it set the bar really high.
Love it as well. Always sweet, a lot of vanilla, slight trace of alcohol. Whole new experience, I smile every time I get to drink it.
So far my favorite rum is Bacoo 12 year . SO delightful !
