@@filbao8113yeah, but unfortunately the younger generations no longer care about or bother with understanding basic vehicle functionality, maintenance or repairs, nor do they seem to have the same level of driving skill, so the cars need to be smarter to compensate. I grow up knowing how to fix a broke fan belt, replace a tire and even change my own oil. I was also taught that driving was a “use your whole brain and attention” task. Today most new driver don’t even know if the car has a spare and driving is not their primary brain focus when behind the wheel. Technology is helping fill that knowledge gap and keep the roads safe.
This week I test drove both the 40 and 50. The acceleration in both is impressive. With the addition of air suspension the ride is much more comfortable in the 50 model. The design of the front seats makes the rear seats claustrophobic. Worth being aware that the rear windows only go down half way. The seats would benefit from better lumbar support. This can be overcome with the lumbar adjustment if fitted to the front seats. Be aware that due to a shortage of chips the lumbar adjustment is not currently available on the front passenger seat. The sunroof is frustratingly opaque when in the clear mode, hopefully this can be improved. The designers could have thought through better how this vehicle will be charged, for the charge sockets are in the location where one would typically put petrol or diesel. Near the front as with most PHEV vehicles would be better. They need to redesign to provide storage for the parcel shelf too. The current shelf appears like cheap plastic and not appropriate for a car of this price. The dashboard looks good but drivers may get annoyed when their passengers change the display when they want to adjust their seat heat. The performance and interior space are very impressive. The car is the size of the X5 yet has the boot space of the X3 so make sure it is sufficient for your need.
This has some truth to it. The auto industry moves incredibly SLOW. The design for the components of the car you see today could have been finalized 20 years ago.
If you don't go with the time, you go with the time. You will always prefer the thing which you saw during your childhood. But that's not how progress works.
It’s ok to change the looks of things, but in BMW’s case, I agree their cars are less aesthetically appealing. That’s not only compared with their old cars, but with other modern cars. Having said that, I totally understand how others may love it
Bmw current design language only caters for one demographic, the Chinese Market. Hence the major change to the 'kidney' grill as the Chinese Market absolutely loves hideous big f**koff grills.
Just bought one. Will be delivered next week Friday. Did a testdrive last week and I love the looks, the interior, the space and the luxury. Great driving. Comfort and power! Don’t like most of the pictures on the internet but visit the dealer and meet the car in real life. Imposing!
This applies to all new BMW designs. They look terrible on pictures at first glance, hence all the hate on the internet. But in person, they look way better and most people tend to get to like and prefer them actually. A shame those haters will never get to see or own a new BMW.

i honestly don't understand the dislike of the design. I absolutely love how it looks, and just bought one recently. It looks great outside, it looks great inside, and it drives great. it's an awesome vehicle. although, part of the reason mine looks so great is due to the "blue ridge mountain" color along with the titanium bronze trim package! great combination!
You can get in really trouble by not puting front license plate in Poland (potential speed camera evasion etc.). I mean more than just a ticket. More then half of 3's and 4's I've seen on the road. And all you say to pełne: look, I just can't afford Alpina... Yes, they make their incarnations of those models with nice, "old" grill:)
Maybe BMW ist just smart. The i3 still looks futuristic and modern (although not everybody likes it) and the iX will still look futuristric and modern 5-10 years from now, whereas other cars will look outdated, also I think it's a deliberate decision to go for an extreme look and not 0815 mainstream because they aim for a special target group.
Yes a big thing with car companies is 'sustainability'. Everyone should go spend 100k on a massive heavy EV SUV to be 'sustainable' and help in the fight against climate change.
That's why the most "sustainable" car is the tiny Wuling Mini EV. It's got nowhere near the range, safety, and performance of the iX, or even a Tesla 3, but for $5000, a young Chinese couple living in a crowded city could now get personal transport that emits zero emissions. No surprise that Wuling is selling upwards of 45,000 Mini EVs PER MONTH.
This thing is still way more efficient than any ICE car and the absolute efficiency looks like it will be around 3miles/kw/h. Pretty good really. Aerodynamics on this one helps compared to ipace and Etron.
BMW, MB are doing the same thing.. Chinese design language to sell more at their biggest marketplace, where owning one of those badges can be considered as a symbol of success, ridiculous cultural stuff in many Asian countries.

I've got a 2007 Z4 coupe and think it looks great as does the same era 6 series. Most of the others from the Bangle days haven't improved much with age unfortunately.
Amazing features, beautiful interior, its almost like they benchmarked a Tesla before designing this car, then tried to improve on it. This bodes well for the future more affordable German vehicles.

I hated it at first because of the exterior. But I am in love with it now. Complete redesign of everything, the engineering, the balance. Bmw deserves more credit. Bmw and audi leaders in electric class.
I took one out for a test drive today and really liked it. We own a 2016 and a 2019 X5 (both 5.0's) and the power of the iX feels faster. Smooth and quiet. Will wait for the 3rd generation most likely.

The X cars are awful expect the X5 and that’s literally it. It I8 and I3 I’ve never paid attention too because I’m not interested in them. So final verdict it’s only the 5,7,8 series and the X5. That’s it. I hate the way they’re going and in 10 years time I’m going too despise them all together.

X1, X2, X3 and especially X5 are great looking cars. X6 looks awful in pictures, but in person it looks badass and tough.

This car is ugly even without the grill. The lines dont make sanse, there are sharp edges in a soft design, it tries to be tough but looks bobly. The wheel arches are round with squarish shoulder lines, and it has triangles in the front intakes, and over all of that, the bumper, cabin and rear shapes are soft and round, nothing makes sense in this car. And in the end, they slapped a huge grill that looks like if a bubblegum had teeth, it makes no sense in the design. Absolutely horrible BMW
i hate to admit it, I think BMWs styling, at least here, is growing on me… but that huge fake grill is still hard to stomach. I still understand why it’s design language is extremely polarizing
Ah, yes, sustainability. This new model feature a new electrical system that is designed to make repairs outside the BMW dealers almost impossible, as now all the computers need coding to be signed by the BMW servers, conveniently making it impossible for your local BMW mechanic to fit any used parts or getting original parts to work the rest of the car. Search it up, it's called BMW secure encoding and it's designed to rip you off on future repairs :)
There are still access to the software directly from BMW if your shop is interested having it and other software that works for coding and programming. Just have to look for it.
Well, electric cars are an excuse for manufacturers to adopt the same repair policies as smartphone makers, especially Apple. At the end of the day, these are not cars, just big, expensive smartphones. If you listen to their press material, it's all about battery capacity and how big is the screen of the infotainment.
Is it just me, or does it look like the designer popped down to the farm and found his inspiration with the free range pigs. That front can't be very aerodynamic.
Some things like climate control should have just normal analogue switches. Often weather conditions change during a journey and you don't want to programme a screen to demist.

@@troll2637 Because you don't drive the car, the car drives you, it has no soul, no engine, no gears, not a single sound, just technology and a big ass screen, definitely not what we (car enthusiasts) like.
Maybe in a dark color the front wouldn't be so bad. But I'll say the vehicle is impressive. I think this has a pretty nice edge on the model x mainly because of the significantly cheaper price tag though you do lose some comparatively. A buyer will just need to figure out what they want and will use it for. I hope BMW comes out with a model y competitor in the $50k range with a decent battery range.
Hopefully it'll allow you to make adjustments while the vehicle is moving. It would really suck to have to pull over every single time you need to go into the menu.
I know styling is very personal, so here's my very personal view - absolutely bloody hideous. Possibly one the ugliest cars I ever seen - I cant honestly find anything positive to say about the exterior except the back isn't quite the horror show the front is. Looks like instead of being poked by the stick of truth, its taken a severe beating from the ugly stick. I do like the interior though. Fortunately for BMW, I can't afford it so a) the won't care what I think and b) they haven't lost a sale. Off to watch some videos of puppies and try and unsee this monstrosity.
Well the difference between this and any "new" apple gadget is that this car is really new and shows new technologies, while apple shows "a bit more of this, a bit more of that" and the same exactly design being 5-7 years behind Android in terms of solutions, design and tech.
And the difference between apple fans and Android fans is that android fans always tries to talk shit to Apple users saying that androids are a million time superior despite Apple phones have equal advantage to android phones. And not to mention that android fans is slowly becoming XBox fanboys all over again.

i honestly don't understand the dislike of the design. I absolutely love how it looks, and just bought one recently. It looks great outside, it looks great inside, and it drives great. it's an awesome vehicle. although, part of the reason mine looks so great is due to the "blue ridge mountain" color along with the titanium bronze trim package! great combination!

You can get in really trouble by not puting front license plate in Poland (potential speed camera evasion etc.). I mean more than just a ticket. More then half of 3's and 4's I've seen on the road.

Maybe BMW ist just smart. The i3 still looks futuristic and modern (although not everybody likes it) and the iX will still look futuristric and modern 5-10 years from now, whereas other cars will look outdated, also I think it's a deliberate decision to go for an extreme look and not 0815 mainstream because they aim for a special target group.
Yes a big thing with car companies is 'sustainability'. Everyone should go spend 100k on a massive heavy EV SUV to be 'sustainable' and help in the fight against climate change.
That's why the most "sustainable" car is the tiny Wuling Mini EV. It's got nowhere near the range, safety, and performance of the iX, or even a Tesla 3, but for $5000, a young Chinese couple living in a crowded city could now get personal transport that emits zero emissions. No surprise that Wuling is selling upwards of 45,000 Mini EVs PER MONTH.
This thing is still way more efficient than any ICE car and the absolute efficiency looks like it will be around 3miles/kw/h. Pretty good really. Aerodynamics on this one helps compared to ipace and Etron.
No matter how good it might be, I’d never pay a whole chunk of money for such an awful looking car.

BMW, MB are doing the same thing.. Chinese design language to sell more at their biggest marketplace, where owning one of those badges can be considered as a symbol of success, ridiculous cultural stuff in many Asian countries.

I've got a 2007 Z4 coupe and think it looks great as does the same era 6 series. Most of the others from the Bangle days haven't improved much with age unfortunately.
Amazing features, beautiful interior, its almost like they benchmarked a Tesla before designing this car, then tried to improve on it. This bodes well for the future more affordable German vehicles.

I hated it at first because of the exterior. But I am in love with it now. Complete redesign of everything, the engineering, the balance. Bmw deserves more credit. Bmw and audi leaders in electric class.
I took one out for a test drive today and really liked it. We own a 2016 and a 2019 X5 (both 5.0's) and the power of the iX feels faster. Smooth and quiet. Will wait for the 3rd generation most likely.

All i care are 3, 5, 7 and 8 series, and all of them are great looking and great to drive.
@@stevem2323 the new 1 Series is horrible, the 2 series couple is awful, the 3 is nice, the 4 I’ve never paid attention too, the 5 will always be my favourite, the 6 is okay but not my sort of car, the 7 is unbelievable they always have been and the 8 is too. The X cars are awful expect the X5 and that’s literally it. It I8 and I3 I’ve never paid attention too because I’m not interested in them. So final verdict it’s only the 5,7,8 series and the X5. That’s it. I hate the way they’re going and in 10 years time I’m going too despise them all together.

This car is ugly even without the grill. The lines dont make sanse, there are sharp edges in a soft design, it tries to be tough but looks bobly. The wheel arches are round with squarish shoulder lines, and it has triangles in the front intakes, and over all of that, the bumper, cabin and rear shapes are soft and round, nothing makes sense in this car. And in the end, they slapped a huge grill that looks like if a bubblegum had teeth, it makes no sense in the design. Absolutely horrible BMW
i hate to admit it, I think BMWs styling, at least here, is growing on me… but that huge fake grill is still hard to stomach. I still understand why it’s design language is extremely polarizing
Ah, yes, sustainability. This new model feature a new electrical system that is designed to make repairs outside the BMW dealers almost impossible, as now all the computers need coding to be signed by the BMW servers, conveniently making it impossible for your local BMW mechanic to fit any used parts or getting original parts to work the rest of the car. Search it up, it's called BMW secure encoding and it's designed to rip you off on future repairs :)

Well, electric cars are an excuse for manufacturers to adopt the same repair policies as smartphone makers, especially Apple. At the end of the day, these are not cars, just big, expensive smartphones. If you listen to their press material, it's all about battery capacity and how big is the screen of the infotainment.

I like most customers prefer more leg room in the cabin than load space in the boot. If you want more boot space you can always fold down the seats.
Some things like climate control should have just normal analogue switches. Often weather conditions change during a journey and you don't want to programme a screen to demist.
It will take 5 minutes to adjust the temperature

Maybe in a dark color the front wouldn't be so bad. But I'll say the vehicle is impressive. I think this has a pretty nice edge on the model x mainly because of the significantly cheaper price tag though you do lose some comparatively. A buyer will just need to figure out what they want and will use it for. I hope BMW comes out with a model y competitor in the $50k range with a decent battery range.

Hopefully it'll allow you to make adjustments while the vehicle is moving. It would really suck to have to pull over every single time you need to go into the menu.
I know styling is very personal, so here's my very personal view - absolutely bloody hideous. Possibly one the ugliest cars I ever seen - I cant honestly find anything positive to say about the exterior except the back isn't quite the horror show the front is. Looks like instead of being poked by the stick of truth, its taken a severe beating from the ugly stick. I do like the interior though. Fortunately for BMW, I can't afford it so a) the won't care what I think and b) they haven't lost a sale. Off to watch some videos of puppies and try and unsee this monstrosity.

Well the difference between this and any "new" apple gadget is that this car is really new and shows new technologies, while apple shows "a bit more of this, a bit more of that" and the same exactly design being 5-7 years behind Android in terms of solutions, design and tech.
