Nothing beats a good ratting terrier. Just get a pair and let them live in the barn. They make short work of even the wiliest rat!
PS: The reason for a pair is that they drive the rat between each other to stop it bolting for its hole. Great to watch :)

He's not going to get any of them with that wire mesh set-up. The rodent is quite literally _grounded_ with its hind feet. When it so much as touches the mesh with a whisker (which is what animal whiskers are for, feeling things out first), he's never going to go near it again.

Dear gardener, you don't need 10000 volt to kill a mouse or a rat! 12 volt (to be sure 24 volt) is enough. Also I can suggest something. You know mice and rats make tunnel like nests, and these tunnels have more than one entryway. If the mouse feels danger it will run the other way. So we need a way to find all holes to those tunnels. And if you find one rat you can be sure there are much more of them. If you have a motorbike especially an old one, ADD some extra oil in its fuel so when the bike works, it will produces a lot of smoke. Find a big size hose (or rubber pipe), and attach it to the exhaust pipe of the bike. And the other end to the hole of the rat! there you are. When you start the the bike you can find if there are any other entryway (or exit way) beside the one you found. After a few minutes the mouse can't breath and has to run out. But before that be sure you are ready to kill it. Where ever the smoke goes out of ground.

Years ago, I worked with a man who had previously worked at a ConAgra chicken processing plant. He told me that they had a horrendous rat problem and due to an almost unending source of protein, the rats were almost as big as chihuahuas. Anyway, the rats would CHEW THROUGH the CONCRETE floors and when they’d patch the holes chewed through the concrete, they chew through the heavy duty epoxy used to patch it. Basically, if a rat wants to get to something badly enough, there’s *almost* nothing you can do to stop them.

The reason it didn't come out of the hole is because you have the wire right there by the hole. You need to remove that to give them more of an area to come out before they hit the hot wire. We have hooked up a hose to the tailpipe of a car and run it into a hole to smoke out gophers. We also took a metal garbage can that we filled up half way with water. We laid newspaper Across the top and put tuna on the paper. When the rat comes up to get the tuna they fall into the water and drowned.

Omg it's huge!!! I have very little ones in my house thanks to my neighbors (half double). They are rats, but not big ones. In fact I have one right now in a trap that's gotta be like a few weeks old maybe. It's tiny, tiny. But it's definitely a rat. My son woke me up at 6:30 in the morning crying but he's seen a rat and was scared. And said that it ran behind the entertainment center. so I went down and lo and behold this tiny tiny little baby rat was behind the entertainment center so I had these two green plastic live traps that I put on each end of the entertainment center and then I took a broom and I stood on one side of it and I shoot them to the other side and he ran right into the trap and the door snap shut and he's trapped now. but this is the only way I've been able to catch them as if I actually see them and can set them up to go into the trap otherwise they avoid them like the plague rats are not like mice in that way they are way smarter 😭 and I really think they're actual nest is next door in my neighbors and they're just coming from their side to my side once in awhile so the problem is my neighbors aren't the cleanest people and the rats are never going to go away as long as they live on the other side of me unfortunately. I don't even know how or where they're coming in I mean there's holes in the sink and stuff they could be coming through from the ceiling and through the walls I have no clue. I'm going to move when my lease is up anyway because my landlord is a slumlord. But I'm trying to keep them under control at least until I do.

So, about the smoke idea, did you consider a/some smoke from a firework smoke bomb? I know, straw and pyrotechnics could lead to a potential fire if you just threw it into the hole. But, in a metal can, similar to the bee smoker (don't reuse for bees after), or another method of safely pushing the smoke (bellows?) might get more smoke into the hole?

if my experience in catching these suckers has taught me anything, its that mice love the wall and will hug it, rarely moving away from it, but on top of that they also love running between objects against the walls, so double sides tape/ duct rolled on the ground and/or on the entrance and exit could work, heck you can take it farther and use an actual baited sticky trap.
(now for the trollish but still technically true stuff)
if that still doesn't work, giving the mouse a max of 2 years to live, can definitely insure that it dies due to old age.
if you want it out sooner than 2 years than by all means feed extra so it has heart problems

I've been dealing with rats for the past year since I moved into the house I'm in. They're roof rats. I managed to successfully block them out of the roof 7 months later but the little buggers are now living in the gutters for the past 6 months. At least a couple of them I know evaded the poisons put in the roof multiple times (4 lots of baiting done). Just when I thought the lockable stations outside weren't working I found a dead roof rat recently in my courtyard and it had pulled the bait out of the station... shame it wasn't the ones in the gutter though. I can't believe it's been a year and I still can't get rid of them.... well they're actually in my neighbours gutter now but that overhangs mine as our homes are so close together and I can still hear them. ugh. You had to go to a lot of effort here for just one rat. They've very evasive and hard to get rid of.

I love this comment so much. Such a wonderful breakdown of your ongoing struggle with the rats, of the trials and tribulations, the lore of the endless Battle of Rat V. Ape that dates back god knows how many thousands of years. And the corollaries one could draw to Charlie Kelly of Always Sunny In Philadelphia serve as the cherry on top for me. Imagining him with the baseball bat with nails all over it that Charlie is gifted in the Spaghetti episode. Spa-ghetti that is! Lol. All the families and entire generations of rats that he killed...lolol, good show, good show. Anyways, I like ur style and keep it up! Less rats on this planet the better. I don't fucking like rats. Maybe even more than mosquitoes. I fucking hate mosquitoes too.

This video just proves a little point I make to many people. I've noticed that most people when they see an animal. Insect or bird they seem to assume it's sex and call it HIM HE. Lol. You called the rat he before you even saw IT. And it's female. Lol. It's no big deal. Just something I notice. Great video. Glad you got the Rat. I had a crafty rat once. The only way I could catch IT was to screw a load of screws through a flat bit of wood about 2foot square. I measured it just smaller than the space that the rat was coming out to feed in. Then held the wood up with a stick and fitted a string to it and when the rat went under it I pulled the string from inside my house. I set up a cctv camera that I had and watched it on a monitor. Well I just had to catch it. It was doing a lot of damage. Thanks for sharing your video. 📹👍🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀

Female mink are better at hunting rats because they are smaller than males. But if they are taking care of their babies you may not use them in the meantime.
I understand mink are vicious so I am not sure if you may tame them to be on your side.
