    The dresser is from around 1800. Keyed tenons, dowelled bottomsor the attached rear wall are typicalcarpenter technique of that time.
    The dresser was improperly reworked and we had to undo different work.The dresser was coated with a thick layer of varnish. It was
    removed with caustic soda.The wood was then cleaned with a high-pressure cleaner. With low water pressure and a brush, the paint
    could be removed completely.
    Due to the length of the film, we were only able to film a part of the work. We worked 12 working days and about 70 - 80 hours
    on the dresser.

    I really appreciate how you do not overdo the restoration. You allow the piece to look its age. Thank you.

    This was such a relaxing project to watch, you seemed to take just whatever time was needed, with no urgency. And a lovely piece of furniture was the result. So glad that the previous poor work didn’t seem to have any permanent effects. Also glad you did not subject us to much of the paint removal. Generally I like cleaning-type work, because it’s rewarding, but paint removal just seems like torture for some reason. Owner must be very happy with the result! 🇨🇦💕

      Thanks for your comment. You're right. From 1900 filigree furniture with veneer was built in Germany. The poorer people often just painted over their old painted furniture to imitate the veneer effect. Later, the furniture was simply sanded down because it was not known how to remove the paint and then restore the painting.
      Sometimes we find such old painted furniture. I am currently working on such a piece and making a video of the process.
      (wow long answer!!)

    Height adjustable work surface is cool, handy. Your idea/construction? Precise measurements, critical eye and dry fitting prior to chunks of repair outstanding. Your clients must be over the moon. Like your occasional explanations for those of us inexperienced and untrained in the art and skills you have, needed for accurate, aesthetic and original repair/restoration. Thank you for sharing a moment with your hundt. Noticed his very white muzzle. Olde doggie, olde friend.❤🎉😊

      @Restaurierung may you both enjoy your times together as you have in previous years. If you like/want take picture/pictures per your phone (selfies or your wife or your daughter or your apprentice?) I would share my story of my son and I attending his 13-yo Norwegian Elkhorn German Shepherd mix euthanasia in our kitchen in her favorite dogbed). She was nearly blind, completely deaf and unable to do her business unless one of us held her up. It would've been selfish to make her live like that. But that's not my place to say. God grant you and yours peace of mind.💯💪❤️🙏🙂

    I enjoy your videos very much . They are an oasis of calm in a noisy world. You are just calmly doing what needs doing and I am allowed to watch over your shoulder. I've noticed that you use wooden dowels and no screws or nails. Interesting. Never came across that technique. Why? At one time nails were expensive I imagine, or is it a local custom? And why no glue? Thank you mein Herr.

    • @Restaurierung

      In the very old days, farmers and carpenters often had no nails, but lots of wood. Wood with different grain directions cannot be glued. It would burst because there is different expansion in different directions

    I enjoy watching all your videos. I am also curious about the wooden nails you use . . . do you buy them, or do you make them. Please consider going into just a little more detail on the wooden nails the next time you use them in a video. Thumbs up, Thanks for your time

    • @Restaurierung
      @Restaurierung  Год назад

      I buy the small wooden nails in Japan. I make the big ones myself. However, you have to pay attention to a few things so that it works well. For example, nails only work if they are made of very hard wood. In a few films you can see how I make the wooden nails.
      Thank you for your interest. I'll pay attention to that in the next video. It's good to hear concrete suggestions

    This looks great and age appropriate. I do have one question: Were the legs that you remade the originals from 1800? They just look too modern to me, but I'm certainly not an expert.

    • @Restaurierung
      @Restaurierung  Год назад

      Yes they are original. But only on this sort of dresser with to drawers. Otherwise it would be not high enough.

    what is the approximate cost of renovating such a cabinet? After all, it takes 12 days and several dozen hours of work. That skills also cost money.

    • @Restaurierung
      @Restaurierung  5 месяцев назад +1

      Some customers want to have family furniture restored. In this case, the cost is not so important.
