Book recs that I think you’d like:
- Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe
- I’ll give you the sun
- Red, white and royal blue
they are all good. I love all of them.
I just read the first sentences of Aristotle and Dante... and I'm tearing up. thnx for the recomendation, I think I've finally found my way back to reading
yes to the first two! made me bawl
I used to be an avid reader as well, but life took over. However, the last book that made me feel Something was Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami and also, literally any works by Khaled Hosseini.
BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS:
- When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi
- Educated by Tara Westover
- The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy
- Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
- All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
- The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
- The Alchemist by Paolo Coelho
:)
You have AMAZING taste. Here are some more recs:
- Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi
- If Beale Street Could Talk by James Baldwin
- Narziss and Goldmund by Hermann Hesse
- Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng
- Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng
- Under the Udala Tree by Chinelo Okparanta
- Letters to a Young Poet by Rainer Maria Rilke
The Kite Runner was amazing!!
I LOVE. All the lights we cannot see!! I have not read any other that u have recommended but I have heard of The ALchemist and wanna start reading it soon!
I'm sorry but your little words of wisdom at the start was everything for me 🥺
The White Tiger - Aravind Adiga
Memorial - Bryan Washington
The Kite Runner - Khaled Hosseini
‘100 years of solitude’ made me feel something. it’s a batshit crazy book and it’s like about humanity and like in the end u feel okay about stuff bc it is what it is
Some of my favorite books:
The Kite Runner: Very intimate cross-generational story set in the middle east. I read it a while ago and cant remember much but it made me cry.
Between the Shades of Gray: Story about separation and family struggle in war-time eastern europe. Also made me cry lmao
as an afghan myself - reading kite runner was interesting and heart wrenching at first but many afghans and others don't recommend it cos it really paints Afghanistan as nothing more than ethnic conflict when Afghanistan itself from mannerisms to culture and politics is very complicated - as well as the fact that the author Khalid husseni paints the largest ethnic group Pashtuns as extreme and villainous (through associating them with taliban members). Furthermore, the author was allies with George bush at the time and was part of the USA propaganda to continue their intervention in Afghanistan, The author himself also lived a very sheltered life and never experienced the conflict , hence voices of afghan authors who have experienced the conflict are extremely overshadowed. A book I would highly recommend would be ' the lightless sky ' by Gulwari passerlay, if you want to have some insight into the afghan Diaspora
btw ive also read between the shades of grey and my god I cried like three times reading it.
i'd recommend reading the world according to garp by john irving. it's about a writer who lives in a feminist society and he gets into a conflict with an ultra-feminist group. it's a masterpiece that is still very relevant today. the writing is very complex but beautiful, and I was hooked from the first page to the very last.
it comforts me seeing someone else living alone, its been kinda lonely lately w/ covid getting worse and everything shutting down again, thank you.

- kafka on the shore
:)
Books that made me think:

-hound of the baskervilles
-his dark materials
-the murder of Roger Ackroyd (my fav book by Agatha Christie)
-call me by your name
-crazy rich asians
-the man in the brown suit
-the diviners
A book I think you'd really enjoy specifically is THE SECRET HISTORY. It's chilling, thought-provoking, dark academia themed, and the writing style leaves you in awe. The characters are mad cool and there is a mystery element to it that makes it impossible to put down
I just feel like you're my best friend and I like to eagerly listen to everything you have to say. Wish you videos never ended.😭

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins really makes you feel things!!!
damn sweet digs, looking bomb as usual
some book recs for ya, from what you said I think you would really enjoy
☀ The Last Samurai by Helen Dewitt:
a pretty challenging read but I don't think I've read anything that was as mind-opening; the central thesis is basically that our education system is restrictive and limits our potential, but it's packaged in a coming-of-age story about a boy's search for his father
☀ A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara:
if you're looking to "feel something", read this. I don't usually get emotional reading but this broke me a couple times
A book recommendation I have is Beyond The Gender Binary by Alok Vaid-Menon! It’s a short nonfiction book that’s super amazing and discusses gender identity :)

Try reading: the thing around your neck by Chimamanda Ngozie Adiche. It's a lovely book
A few books i love which might be fun!
- Alain Badiou is a wonderful philosopher, his outlook is positive in a eye opening way. I recommend any of the praises (love, math, politics, theatre), For a Politics of the Common Good, or any of the small books published by Polity.
- Picture of Dorian Grey by Oscar Wilde, a classic!
- French exit by Patrick Dewitt, funny and clever, a mood brightener
- Naked Lunch by William Burroughs, shocking and gruesome at times, not for the faint-hearted but it's a rollercoaster of emotions
