I also love where it says in this passage "Settle Down and Build Houses". We rarely ever want to call our exile our home, yet that is sometimes exactly what God wants us to do. Stop worrying so much about accomplishing "our Goals" with "His help" and instead let Him have the freedom to Use what we call "bad circumstances" for His glory.

I was going through a really rough time after a failed engagement. I was angry at my ex, myself, and even God for not allowing my relationship to work out the way I thought it should. When I finally decided to turn to the Word instead of feeling sorry for myself, this verse gave me hope. Now almost a year later I realize that I'm in a much better place emotionally & spiritually, I've grown stronger as a person, & learned more about what God wants from me :-)

My husband of 34 yrs passed away suddenly 10 months ago. I felt completely blindsided. He was the love of my life. Since then I feel like I just muddle through life day by day, rinse and repeat. I am closer to the Lord through the horrible journey and I pray Jer 29 11 almost daily that I don’t know the plans He has for me but I know that He has one. Surely, I have the faith of a mustard seed to trust Him. Idk where He is taking me and then journey is the hardest I’ve ever traveled. It’s been one step at a time, one breath at a time. Every morning when my eyes open I realize my husband isn’t here and the grief starts again. Idk how to do this life but I’m trusting Him and He has me in the palm of His righteous right hand. Thanks for your video and letting me share.I love your shirt btw.

I agree with you that it is FOR all His people.
But that does not mean that it is TO us specifically.
For example, the Book of 1 Corinthians is a letter FOR all Christians.
But the book is also a letter TO the Corinthians.
Paul, when writing this letter, was specifically thinking about what was happening in Corinth.
In other words, when Paul wrote this letter, he was not thinking about 21st Century Christianity.
It is important then for us then to understand the context of what was happening in Corinth, precisely because it is inspired and FOR us.

Jeff, I read through the comments a tad and realized how distorted something can get. Anyways I wanted to say thank you.
A little over a week ago I lost a young man who was near to my heart in our youth group. He was 17 and the roads were slick. He was an amazing image of God. Just to prove how much he loves God two more young men got saved at his funeral. Maybe it's just me but I've never seen that. He flowed of Gods glory and He lived his life for Him. But The Lord called him Home. I was heart broke. No sleep no food and after the shock I felt angry and confused. I cried to God with "you said you had plans for us. For him! You said you wouldn't harm us!" I was lost. Confused. Now Colton being Colton it took no time before God made me realize I needed to remember what Colton, a 17 year old young man, taught all of us. Especially myself at 21. I needed to live for Christ. But this verse still felt raw every time. Until now. Thank you.

Everything happens for a reason and he has a plan for me & it is not to cause harm but to bring something along the line! I agree with what you say. KarinaMichelle Jeremiah is a great book. Ephesians chapter 1, specifically verses 11-12 can have the same impact. personally I prefer that scripture because
      1. This scripture is for the church so in the context it's for Christians not Jews. Somewhat similar to Jeriniah who was specifically a prophet for Israel, Paul was an apostle who was sent for gentiles, which applies to me.
      2. It reminds us that God predestined us for his plan and his glory, not for ours. And any gifts or visions I have should be used for God.
I hope this scripture really helps!

Israel is in exile under the Babylonians which God allowed to happen due to Israel's failure to listen to God. God had a plan to keep them captive for I think 70 years and that is what happened. Persia overtook Babylon and ultimately the Israelites began returning home. So God wanted them to grow but needed to teach them a lesson...sort of a tough love scenario. It is like I sent all these prophets to warn you but you didn't listen so maybe losing your land will be the wake up call you need.

He ends up kind of covering that near the end. The fault can be in treating Scripture with literalism (dogmatic/sounds like dogs reading the Bible lol). For example, if I read about David vs. Goliath....to treat that as, "Well I got to be literally facing a giant" is a bad way to interpret Scripture. Jer 29:11 is a reminder many bad times will come--we be can be comforted that knows His plans regardless if it was past tense or recent struggles. Ya'll guys might be extremely surprised how the early church Fathers, like Augustine, related this verse to the early church. In fact you might even be insulted that Augustine used Psalm 139 as basically a gospel message / Christian warfare against heretics. Of course Augustine knew what he was doing when he covered the parts he chose to.

Jefferson Bethke When I was yonger I read the bible. I can't remember what verse it was. It's a big book and was hoping anyone here can find it. No matter Catholic or Christian, the 10 commandments or 7 deadly sins, I remember reading there is an unforgivable sin. It goes something like this, "Those that teach little ones to sin shall not be forgiven." I of course believe that could be interpreted as all of us or perhaps literally children. I'm afraid that I may have had a bad influence on my friends. Please help me find this verse. I kind of want to know if there is any point in trying anymore.

I'm not sure on this Jeff. God's words are alive, and if you have read that verse and touched your spirit, then it is true. If interpretation is to be given, then, all the promises on the Bible which are only given to people on that time can't be applied to us. Think about it. For me, Jer 29:11 is a promise from God. It's your relationship to Jesus which will determine that it is indeed true. I believe the Bible is the truth, and if every single verse that we take as promises from God should be interpreted as what you have stated here in your video, then what is left for us to claim?

  • @PeterGuirguis
    @PeterGuirguis 10 лет назад +65

I think that because of Galatians 3:26 - 29 that Christians can claim Jeremiah 29:11. Sure, people can take it out of context but it is still applicable to the Christian today when used properly.
26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Tell me if there is one false or unlikely fact i named? you may disagree for the fact of jesus a pure human and call him god but we all know him as a human, we never witnessed his in heaven as a god, if we look it rationally outside of the religious beliefs.

The more we talk about Jesus, the better we will be for it. For decades I have (not consciously, really) been far removed from God. I from him. I arrogantly put him on the back burner and followed the path of the flesh. Only to wake up realizing, 25 years later, after my life had taken me places that would confound and scare me, leaving me feeling helpless and at times hopeless. That I needed that connection back. Desperately. Anyone who shares this story, will know the feeling. It was a stark realization, an epiphany at the right time. That the difference of where my life was taking me, as opposed to where it began, was the shear fact that I didn't believe I needed God to live my life. That I knew better. I knew what was best for me and I knew what I wanted! But no. That's a lie that creeps into your head and poison's you into believing the deceit that's dancing around us every day. Tempting us away, persistently and too often, successfully. Before you know it, you make decisions in your life without God, no consultations, no asking, just doing based off your wants and desires and emotions. And that soon puts you into a world, void of Him. Leaving you no good guidance, no good answers to hard questions, no good moral decisions. Only decisions based on the flesh, on the selfishness of a Godless nature. I've come back to God since, and life is better. Life is worth living and love is worth giving. Gratitude is worth giving, every day. Every day I wake up and thank God for what he has done for me. For my family. I was arrogant before. No longer. My eyes and heart have been opened. I step back and see an entire world full of people who have or are following exactly the path I did. I see a lot of anger out there. Hurt, frustration, and most of all fear, it permeates the earth. I pray for you. I pray you find your way. I pray you connect to your loving father. I pray he guides you back home. To a place where you can find solace, and peace of mind and soul. To see clearer. I pray that you do, with all my heart I pray. And when you do find your way again, please pray for the others who are still looking for the light to guide them home. Keep it burning for them. For the ones who cannot yet see it.

I think the verse that has done the most damage is John 3:16, as it's planted this idea in the minds of millions, that all we have to do is believe there's a God, and we get a ticket to heaven. James 2:19 says that even the demons believe there's a God, so it's not our believing there's a God that gets us to heaven. It's what we do with that knowledge.
Do you want to know who your God is? Who do you serve? That is your God. Many will sing and pray to Jesus as their Lord, but few treat Him as such, and that's what counts. So, if you wake up each day to serve yourself or something other then God Himself, then you worship a false idol, and you go thru life wondering why God doesn't show Himself more in your life. WELL, IT'S TIME TO WAKE UP!
Start each day by denying yourself, picking up your cross, and following after God, for when you lose your life, you'll find out you've actually gained it. You'll gain the life God has created you for, and He will show up in your life like never before. Matt 16:24-25

This is very true! Ive seen this verse used for earthly circumstances constantly, but He is after conforming all His into the image of Christ. That could mean having all our earthly circumstances destroyed, but the "good" planned for us is Christ in us.
Its also so true how the Lord spoke so many things to a certain people for a certain time, and thats why we all need to hear Him right now. He is still speaking, and His sheep hear His voice. He is still writing but it is in living epistles now. This is the time where His Spirit comes in us, the time of the New Covenant. We can seek His face and seek to receive His Spirit directly from Him.

For Jesus himself instructed his disciples to only preach to the Jews. Then he said he has not come but for the lost sheep of Israel. Paul the apostle was the Jewish minister to the gentiles.

I love you bro, but let me say this. Okay Israel was God's people in the time of the old testament just as us Christians are His people today. So the same promise God has laid up for his people yesterday are the same promises for He laid up for His people Today. God took Salvation to the gentiles sense the Jews rejected His Son. Us Christians have inherited the promise of Abraham through faith. We are the head but not the tail we are above and not beneath. That's an OT Promise to Israel and God will raise up His Christian children to that position today only if we obey His Word. The same applies to Jeremiah 29:11. That's a simple word of love God has promised to those that loves Him. Don't put too much logic in this thing bro. We walk by faith and not by sight.

In fact the promises he spoke over 5k years ago were spoken over the entire span of all time. We can not just read the scriptures and try to dissect them. To get truth we MUST get counsel from the Holy Spirit that inspired the writings. Good video though....it provoked conversation about scriptures .

      Yup,
Don’t have to go but a few verses for the curses the Lord proclaimed against those that disobeyed, but we won’t see any tattoos of these verses anywhere
16 thus says the LORD concerning the king who sits on the throne of David, and concerning all the people who dwell in this city, your kinsmen who did not go out with you into exile:
17 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, behold, I am sending on them sword, famine, and pestilence, and I will make them like vile figs that are so rotten they cannot be eaten.
18 I will pursue them with sword, famine, and pestilence, and will make them a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a curse, a terror, a hissing, and a reproach among all the nations where I have driven them,
19 because they did not pay attention to my words, declares the LORD, that I persistently sent to you by my servants the prophets, but you would not listen, declares the LORD.' - Jeremiah 29:16-19

THANK YOU FOR THIS! So many Christians preach to me the opposite of what you say in this video. I only met 1 that pretty much steered to what you said. I came to the same conclusion as you after noticing that God had me in the direction that I didn't want to go, meanwhile my other Christian friends made plans, got up and left and are doing well. It frustrated me. Their excuse was that I was acting like "What about John," that Peter said, but they're doing well. It was only UNTIL I stopped hoping for what I want that this disappointment left me. I has to be God's Will. Not ours. Christians get mad at me, because I stopped hoping in what I want to do in life. There's no point. I also believe it's one of the many reasons why a lot of Christians are going to be part of the Great Falling Away.

We're all encouraged by a leader who stirs us to move ahead, someone who believes we can do the task he has given and who will be with us all the way. God is that kind of leader. He knows the future and his plans for us are good & full of hope. As long as the God who knows the future provides our agenda and goes with us as we fulfill his mission, we can have boundless hope. This does not mean we will be spared pain, suffering or hardship, but that God will see us through to a glorious conclusion

I like this guy BUT I have to disagree with him on this topic. The Bible says in Hebrews 4:12 that the Word of God is "LIVING and powerful." key word 'living' which means alive and active. Stay with me here people. If Jefferson's theory is correct then why would Apostle Peter in 1 Peter 2:24 quote ("....By Whose stripes you have been healed) used from Isaiah 53:5 (400 years before the birth of Jesus) and it still applies to us today? Also check out Hebrews 13:5 when Apostle Paul said ('....For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you.") used from Deuteronomy 31:6 (thousands of years before the birth of Jesus) doesn't that verse still apply to us today? Everything good from God still applies to us today from Genesis to Jude (not Revelation obviously because it hasn't occurred yet). The only thing that doesn't apply to us is the old covenant of the law of Moses which God Himself made void (Hebrews 8:1-13). Beloved, if these verses don't convince you that no matter the times and places of the bible, the good words of God still applies to us today including Jeremiah 29:11, then ask yourself this question: Why would God NOT "have thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give us a good future and a hope?" Didn't the Word say Jesus is the same YESTERDAY, TODAY AND FOREVERMORE?? My case is closed brothers and sisters.

I don't see anything wrong with applying this scripture to us even though there was circumstances surrounding it.Theres such a thing as rightly dividing the word of God but in this case it fits now like it did then.God told the isrealites I will never leave you nor forsake you in Deuteronomy,Now we can take this out of context but logically we know this would apply to us too based on a simple fact He loves all his children and what he will do for one He will do for all........

I hate doing this but this is the problem with intellectually trying to understand scripture you will always fall short. Why am I saying this because I used to make this argument and one of the greatest things about being not well known is I get to be corrected and corrected and corrected before I disclose my biblical views. Contextually and Intellectually he is spot on but the Spirit is not a respecter of persons, whether by ability, gift, or craft. This is how God gently rebuked me on this ideal of always context. Jesus referring to David's psalm said "the Lord says to my Lord" read it and contextually you will see who David is talking about, but Jesus says this scripture references him. Another when Isaiah it talks about Emmanuel contextually it has nothing to do with Jesus. But once again Jesus says this refers to him. I love your stuff Jeff and honestly do not stop but please we need to be careful what ceilings we are placing n people's spirit.

I can see your conundrum; remembering that Jesus spoke Aramaic and there are other languages also spoken in that time being; Yiddish. When you try and translate these languages into English, sometimes english isn't as sympathetic to their meaning. But the general and important message is conveyed.
Also, God's son Jesus, was sent to us for our salvation, this is the "sacrificial lamb" it doesn't mean that we go out and sacrifice lamb's etc. that has already been done for us. Our path towards God is through Jesus's, not us directly to God. Another reason as to why it's said that; Jesus now sits at God's side.
Even in faith, there is"a chain of command".

Your missing one very important fact. There are two types of Jews.
    (1) Jews that are truly of the bloodline of Judah, of the tribe of Judah.
    (2) Jews that are Jews simply because they lived in the geographical location of Judah, or "among the Jews" such as the Kenite tribe.
The latter being the head of the priests, Caiaphas, that had Jesus crucified.
    Jer. 24:1-3
Be enlightened. Jesus speaking to the Jews: John 8:44
Read in Rev. 2:9 & 3:9 Jesus telling you again who is who.
By the way "expected end" means "hoped for end" in the Hebrew.
You're doing a great job Jefferson, but when teaching our youth, be sure to get your facts straight. They are a blank page and very absorbent. Never mis- teach when you have been afforded a wonderful opportunity to do so. The older church group are almost hopelessly brainwashed and closed minded. What a waste.
    Peace

    • @Kojow7
      @Kojow7 10 лет назад +5

Unfortunately, this is a deceptive teaching that has been going around for a while. Like most teachings of this nature, people are brainwashed into believing that they have found a secret teaching that most other people are not aware of and think that everyone else is deluded for not being enlightened. This is also how all cult groups operate. If you truly study the topic and allow the Holy Spirit to reveal His word to you, you will realize that what you have been taught has been pieced together through obscure scriptures taken out of context. It then becomes easy to hold this 'hidden knowledge' above the simplicity of the gospel message so that the truth and importance of the gospel becomes overshadowed by these other teachings. There are many verses you might want to memorize to help you absorb the truth of the scriptures and thus help you to overcome the deceptive seeds that have been planted in your mind. Two such verses are Genesis 4:1 and John 8:37. I encourage you to write these two verses out on a piece of paper and ask God to speak His truth to you through them.

I like this new series you're doing about misinterpreted verses! It's true that we often use particular verses to fit into our needs/agendas and don't realise what the verse is truly about until we read it within it's context, sadly some people still read the context and choose to ignore it because it doesn't fit what they've always known or want to believe. One thing I've personally discovered is that it's soo important to pray before I read scripture.

This verse also speaks about: That God's thoughts are good for us no matter what. God's show us ligth at all moments, not like mankind that does not have hope at all and always try to bring us down. But, spiritually God will provide what we need to overcome any situation. Nothing will be perfect, but it is up to our reaction towards the situation, if we really do believe on God and we trust on His word. Also, this cover His plan for those that finish it. Revelation 21-22. Finish Line.

I don't think God spoke only to a specific people in this or any scripture. My reasoning is this, I was not at the well, but I believe when Jesus forgave me personally he asked me to sin no more ( I fail btw). I believe when God said " this is My Son in whom I am well pleased" , I was given an example of Christ's authority in my life today. As Christians are we not living in a land besieged by enemies?Enemies, that hate us for the love we have for our Creator and Savior? Take comfort in this verse! God knows our Churches face persecution, and we need hope today...every day. Today we look forward to Christ coming just as the Israelites did.

hey Jefferson, it's so nice to hear your thoughts: So much inspiration and so much warmth in your words... I do believe, that there are many ways to get close to God, not just Christianity. But I totally believe, that the way you spreed it between people is really blessed.
So much blessings for you and Alyssa- and don't be afraid of being you, as you have your God holding your hand, right?

I hope you read this, I was in jail looking at prison sitting in my celll .I knew the Lord because of my mom who left us to our grandmother but visited often.while in jail I was alone in a cell was facing my 4th dwi. I knew I was going to do at least five years. I was married with twins ,but my thoughts were evil I said when I get out I'm going to sell drugs and save money and be single. And then I looked across the cell and there was a Bible, then my thoughts changed I told God I'm going to go open that Bible and were my finger points when I open it you better talk to me or I'm going to do what please s me.i opened the Bible expecting nothing ,put my finger were ever I wanted then it landed in Jeremiah 29:11 then icryied changedy thinking. Read it in the nib version.

This resonates with me. I feel like recently my life took a dip into rebelliousness and I'm seeing more and more how evil my heart truly is. I was just praying/talking to God about how guilty I really am and that there is nothing else I can say. I just feel like there's nothing good in me. Every time I try to step forward to honor God or make a change for the good, I feel like something punches me out of my position and I land 40 feet away. I expressed how I know its my own fault and how I dont even have an ounce of worthiness in me. I am SO guilty that I dont see how He can not be tired of me and if I were to fall within the cracks among his people, it would be rightfully so. Nothing inside of me is worthy to be saved. But as I was expressing all of this, my computer screen went black and I noticed a piece of paper on the wall behind me. I turned around and I read it; it has Jeremiah 29:11 on it. And I thought to myself, but that is for people dealing with the hardship they didn't create on themselves. Im so guilty for what's going on with me; how could that possibly be for me? But after watching this video and reading your story I feel like it confirmed it for me. No, that verse is for people that have been creating their own little hell. People that aren't worthy. SO it just stopped me in my tracks and I think I need to start thinking differently. But anyway, I hope you are well. Thank you for sharing your story. DONT EVER underestimate it.

Amen. I have always looked at the "I KNOW" and the "I HAVE" as the key words in that verse. The same goes with the much-abused Psalm 37:4 "Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give You the desires of your heart." Boy, have people misapplied that one! Thankfully within right context, Jer. 29:11 still does give us clues to the nature of Our God to want to give us specific help and deliverance in our difficult circumstances, even when we have fallen into the bondage of idolatry.

Wow what an amazing video! This is why I love this guy. These are the kinds of problems that I personally deal with. I put myself first, expecting that this specific thing will be God's plans for me. And when something doesn't go as expected I start to question. Thanks to this amazing man though, he answered my problem. This is why he is amazing. He connects to me and helps me understand.

I am the Profit. My sister sent me this verse. In a text msg this morning. It helps her to believe in the wonders of God. Knowing it's root is vital to your understanding. It helps to be deeply rooted in knowledge of God. A lot of context is paganism. The scriptures are tampered. Made to be whatever the Priesthood wants. Many people believe in cult classic fabrications.

it still applies to us (real Israel / believers in Yehovah & Messiah Yeshua. YHVH has good plans for us. I'm big on context too, but context does not diminish His plans for us.
This verse gives much comfort to many. Don't let Satan rip you off. Yehovah's plans for you are great. This promise belongs to you, believers.

I believe when you read scripture you should listen for what God is trying to tell you though. I was brought to Jeremiah 29 by a hitchhiker I recently picked up. And we recently moved all the way across the country north to south. So I can’t help but wonder that God has plans for me in our new home. And I am looking and trying to see what those plans are.
And in verse 31 at the end, isn’t that what our politicians are doing to us now? So did God move me at this point in time because of that? This chapter really reads into my life today I believe. And how ironic that a hitchhiker brought me to this realization. I believe God had me pick him up for that very reason.
