dude I feel your pain... here in the US there are only like 10 or so active servers for 1.6 (CSCZ literally has more active servers here!) and there are basically no servers that are any good for GunGame or CSDM (which are my personal favorite CS gamemodes) all of them either have odd configurations (like in gungame some servers require like 5 kills per weapon, wtf? IMO gungame should require 2 kills per weapon at most, otherwise it takes way too long to level up and can make it quite frustrating and tedious, and CSDM always having the spawns set to the default ones from the map, WHY? there are literally DM oriented spawnpoints for all default maps included with the plugin, having CSDM without it's spawnpoints essentially ruins it making it nothing more than a gamemode where you rush and camp eachothers spawns over and over again, which very quickly gets repetitive and boring as hell!) or have plugins that can make things really unfair (like infinite jumping which on some maps allows you to go out of bounds and kill players from outside of the map! it also allows you to jump in midair which is quite broken, super fast movement with certain weapons, infinite ammo, etc.). and oh man I hate those servers that overwrite your weapon models with their really shitty ones that you can't disable, especially since I usually use custom skins in my game. your point about "pay to win" servers reminds me of a certain German CS:S server that is quite popular, they cram VIP ads in your face constantly, the text "VIP Players live longer!" is constantly on the top of your screen the entire time you play on the server, but that is nowhere near the worst part, first off the AWP and Autosnipers are VIP only, if you're not a VIP you can only use them like 3 times and then that's it, you gotta go VIP if you want to use them again, essentially it's like a NO AWP NO AUTO server (which are servers that I also despise) but instead of not being able to use them at all, they're locked behind a paywall, now that's already pretty stupid but believe it or not there is a VIP feature that is even dumber, when you are a VIP on that server, the Deagle has INFINITE AMMO, we all know how OP the Deagle is in CS:S, and making it have infinite ammo means that you can just spam the shit out of it and instantly kill almost everyone in your path, if that shit doesn't define "pay to win" then I don't know what does... anyway, enough of my ranting, I'm glad you made a video about this cuz nobody ever seems to talk about the state of community servers these days
playing cs 1.6 servers reminded me a lot of playing small to medium sized minceraft servers as a kid. Super hierarchical, p2w, and having a clear "in group" and "out-group"
It is pretty much it how you explained, I even wanted to make my own zombie mod server with pretty balanced features and even it started but died some months later because of boredom of not having players on it. I had pretty good plans on it but yeah, maybe I didn''t planned it out good as I thought.

5:37 THIS IS SO REAL, I always hated running wargods anticheat, that shit always seemed sus, and when I looked into parts of it's source code, it turns out it collects information about files ALL OVER your pc! Not only collecting and leaking part of your IP and logging HWID (not so bad), but it also looks through your appdata, etc. Just overall super intrusive honestly, it's not even good at what it does. False positive results show up all the time, getting people falsely banned for cheating by incompetent admins who don't know how the anticheat scanning really works.
there's still plenty of good servers there, even in zombie mode "catalogue". I'm a mapper on one of those and I'm proud of our creation, it's a thin line to balance donate with gameplay overall but i think we managed it pretty good.
back then i cannot stop playing CS 1.6 on random servers with a lot of game modes even we can play soccer. Fun AF!! Now i think theres not much game modes available in community server for CSGO
*cl_minmodels 1* to remove those goofy custom playermodels is a go I'm glad that my country (France) servers doesn't have all those silly plugins and custom models
Here in Australia, we have 1-2 servers that are active every once in a while, but are pretty much vanilla. Also 1-2 servers in SEA. And like 3 zombie survival servers.
Solution? Play on Condition Zero. Its less of but much better servers. I fancy one french server and its really fun and always on new fun maps. It being forgotten by cs community is a bigbenefit becuase only nice people play pretty much.
This is why I only play at unreasonable of the night, it’s mostly vanilla servers populated by wholesome gentlemen, alcoholics, a woman, and that one guy who was on meth. Or some combination the 4
The beauty of CS 1.6 servers was mods like deathrun, hns, diablomods, codmods, zombie mods, pokemon mods. I spent thousands of hours on those back in my school days. And because of that vid i realized how much i miss that times.
DeZolance, I'm so glad I stumbled upon your YT channel! Watching your 'funneh ahhh' videos is always so emotionally uplifting :D And your jokes are always spot on and not cringey. Ah, yep, and your way of speaking is really unique, awesome and silly (in the best way possible) - sometimes you talk like a cartoon character and I love it so much 😆
I had a glimpse of some Argentinian servers (since that's where I live) and honestly there really wasn't anything that bad. There were all the QoL mods you mentioned plus some skins and custom player models and I definitely see the issue with not knowing each player's team from the latter, especially if a significant portion of the players are using them, but at the end of the day I was going there for some casual fun. As long as the pay-to-win doesn't go far beyond custom player models it's tolerable to me, plus some custom player models and the attempts to recreate modern CS stuff was just funny and interesting to me as well. The people weren't too bad either, I found them similar to a casual CS2 lobby.
your vids are awesome. also, balkan/ex-yu servers are generally vanilla, the most they change is having shortdust2/2x2 dust2 (basically only the A site)
Exactly, someone finally made a video about the problem i have with most public servers in cs 1.6 Back then, i used to play on a lot of zombie plague servers, because i loved the concept of it in counter strike and they were much enjoyable but nowadays...? The Zombie plague mode sadly has been 'murdered' by such p2w conditions. I tried to join every ZM server i could and all of them contained very unfair features such as: insta-killing lasermines planted in a way they cannot be destroyed, tons of hp and armor aka tryder, jetpack and bazooka, weapons from cso, nitrogen galil and list goes on . . . This whole p2w situation has gotten out of hand and it makes me sad to see it affecting not just zm servers. (sometimes i wish i could make my OWN server) Once again, very sad to see my top favorite mode Zombie Plague fall off like that.
You're so damn right! I had my own zombie plague server without any freaking donations like intergalactic weapons etc. just simple zombie plague with bazooka, chainsaw and ammo packs system with all dark map. But my server died about 2 months after I started it...
oh man I went onto a Russian 1.6 DM server one day (which is the only one I found which had properly set up CSDM spawns!) and I saw tripmines on the walls and I'm like "oh that's cool! how do I place them?" I pressed every single key and it only brought up a couple of menus which were entirely in Russian, I tried every option in those menus and none of them seemed to work, so I'm like "alright screw this I guess I can't without points or something" and then I tried to shoot one of them but it didn't explode, wtf? that's not how it should work! the way tripmines worked in Half-Life 1 was perfect, why make them indestructible? that's so stupid and makes them kinda OP!
This video is a reminder of just what a Hyperchromiryiadathon the GoldSrc engine can be. Yes, thats a word I just made up, like the aforementioned engine's flexibility.
as a 16 year old having over 9 years of experience playing cs 1.6 modded servers from like 2011 to 2019 (yes i was like 4 years old or 5 years old when i started playing, also it was my first ever game i played) i can confirm everything you said
For avoiding editing config.cfg, there is cl_filterstuffcmd convar with idk why is disabled... Also yea, more then 1/2 servers on cs 1.6 is P2W and looks absolutely horrible...
Stuff like this was literally the reason i would play CS: Condition Zero with bots to get my 1.6 fix as a kid. Goldsrc engine game servers with custom addons irritated me even as a kid.
Its been pretty interesting watching the game evolve past its original intent and how it use to be played. Almost like the game's sandbox element became the main focus. It makes sense in many ways as that's always been a big part of the scene.
@@XanderNiles Just one for CS 1.6. It's called the GameBanana Battle Museum. There isn't much activity but we always welcome people to join with friends! If you're there with no admins you're basically in control of the map rotation. :) 108.61.100.222:27025
With experience of 17 years of playing CS 1.6 I can confirm everything in this video. Quick tip: Make your config.cfg file "Read only" to protect it from server editing it. Also, keep a copy of it somewhere, just in case.
Thank you for talking about that! I thought I'm the only one feel like that I just bought the game yesterday and all I want is classic normal servers without any mods (If someone tell me about normal servers like 5v5 or 10v10 with 8 rounds to win I 'll be thankful)
I remember playing cs 1.6 online around 2018? Up to 2021 or so mostly played death match in dust 2 was really fun and that india map with awps was fun too there was a game mode called CSGO simply CSGO ported in cs 1.6 with skins and all that it had a skin system but damn there was that one player who been played for 16 years who would annihilate your entire team
theres currently a DZG RESPAWN server here in 1.6, its a deathmatch server with around 35 minutes on the clock, its filled with players with quick eyes and quick hands, im known there for a high kill but also a high death count, its pretty hard but real fun
As an admin for a certain zm server for like 5 years approx during my time.. I can confirm that was how zm servers were played.. vips made it super unfun for normal players and *vip no kill* was a thing where vip's would ignore each other making normal folks try to kill the almost near immortal vip humans.
back in the days I was playing on a community server and someone on the server just changed my config out of revenge, so that w,a,s,d and other keys were totally mixed up.
Those VIP concepts I think came from CROSSFIRE fps, and then it became common in cs 1.6, there is even a counter strike: Extreme which took a lot of inspiration from CROSSFIRE
Aw man I remember when i was 10 i used to be a regular at this zombie server and some how convinced a dev to add something what was it i don’t remember but i had a lot of fun
This is the reason why I stopped play CS 1.6 community server. Those P2W players and the server host are equally bad. I rather play a server with a hacker rather than a server mostly consists of P2W. Reason? Hacker can be unbalanced but you rarely see them play community server. They do but mostly HvH. And if you want to join them (just chatting and spectating) they would love to talk with you (just say no if they offer for cheats). P2W are basically "monetized cheats" so they can be plenty more in a server (like in the video). They tend to be chill but most of them are quite toxic. Kicking, too much say "EZ" while using a gun that even baby can use. Basically a skill barrier. But you still can kill those pesky P2W player if you have enough skill to break their ego. I kniw this maybe sound like I don't like P2W and glorify hacker but i dont. I just wanted a balanced game where people can play and have fun without being too vanilla.
you can still infect people with malware with certain plugins. its very common in south american servers. best example is DESTROY which literally makes the game unplayable and bans you from any server its configured to. luckily if you reinstall the game it goes away
The fact that i still have to wait for 69420 files of bitcoin miners and skin models to download at the speed of a decaying corpse is something that i always have to face... it's always infuriating
There are russian RUclipsr , who made tons of content about Beta Half life 2 and Beta CS 1.6 cut content , and eventually he had a server with cut CS 1.6 maps , unique maps and maps made by his community , had shield and cut gamemodes such as VIP and Escape , too bad server is dead now but it was best 3 years(( And also all models were vanilla and no any other aditions , just vanilla.
Thats why we as cs 1.6 community dont play on those servers. We generaply play on classic frag servers where only some cute hats allowed on original models maybe and these guys are VIP. So only bonus they have is. If the server is full. There is a extra space so they can join to game. Or they wear beret
Not in defense of the people who kicks for "You're not from my country" but it's usually that Americans really like to join servers that are not from their country because they don't speak the language, they can troll as much as they want and the consequences won't hit them, I'm not from Europe, I'm Brazilian, and I don't play CS, and even in the games I play foreigner-trolling is a problem, so despite me not really liking that approach, I find it understandable.
Paying for Admin in CS 1.6/CS:S or GTA:SAMP RP was next level shit, people would ban each other for being "better than admin" and other crap shit was always hilarious
Thats why you are only supposed to join servers you know and not random servers with bots / fake players and weird names also console command "cl_minmodels" removes ALL skins and you only see default cs 1.6 models.
I play on one Polish server, that I found in the vast ocean of modded servers. No mods and well (alright, it's a bit modded, because it have occasional promotional message popping up of some website with cs servers and rankings listing), they play mostly on DD2, but they sometimes switch to other maps. But I am still trying to find some other vanilla servers
1.6 days were crazy. Some server admins could open your disc tray. I had a server for a bit and when I was a real mean guy I told people I'd give them admin VIP but needed their steam login to do it and steal their accounts lol RIP
As someone who wasted their youth from 1.1 to 1.6 community servers, it's so sad to see this. Pay2win CS goes against God. Enjoyed that brief clip of pool_day tho.
Weird I played 1.6 couple months back and the server I found was pretty vanilla just added gore and amazing custom maps hostage and bomb. I think it's because of how I setup my search settings 😂
The entire point of having an array of community servers is to find the ones you're most comfortable with. I don't know how the situation is right now but back in those days you had plenty of good servers with little to no bloat to download (it's actually better as an admin for the popularity of the server to have players join you faster). Keep in mind there was always an option in the network settings that disabled download of visual garbage (has it's own issues like error signs on missing player skins but it saved my ass a bunch of times). Shitty servers for kids that did not care about vips or admin powers were popular, but that's literally the top of the iceberg. Joining them was a choice and most people chose elsewhere to find something that is actually good. Country banning is put in place to prevent people expecting to speak English on a server filled with Russians who don't know any other language and vise versa. And it also existed literally in every region. German only and French only servers to name a few.
Country banning is still stupid. A lot of people move to Western countries from Eastern ones in hopes of a better life, now they can't play on some of the servers from where they are from, because they live elsewhere.
OBoy The times when you had to wait 5 minutes for the new map being downloaded, only to be kicked because your internet didn't allow you to download it fast enough but others did. And you can not even rejoin because of reserved slots 🤣🧂
i remember when i had a pirated version of cs 1.6 joined a server and my computer got infected lol, i think i got rid of the malware before it could do any harm
The experience of online play in 1.6 is a real mess. I used to play in LgK Clan and Zombie On Drug servers since both offered vanilla servers but sadly those two are already defunct. All in all, I don't even join online servers in 1.6 anymore because I don't want a lot of junk files downloaded or my config modified. It's a pain in the butt to get it fixed.
Counter strike nexon studio pretty much offered the same but and luckily every content is accessible to everyone but the game monetization is expensive as hell
Excellent video!!! You've described literary everything there is sketchy about 1.6 servers. One thing I would like to know is how does the Server list work, on both non-steam and steam, since some of the servers I think can't be found when launching cs from steam (like buxna public... or at least I didn't manage to find it). Also when installing non-steam 1.6 is the server list connected to the Gametracker site or what? How does the "boosting" work...
Nice video! Do you have any list of trusty vanilla servers we can safely enter? Why not even create your own server and for your viewers even with a certain password
current problem of CS 1.6 is AD: easiest way to improve u'r server's online is buy AD from pirate's monitorings. They put your server's ip in their pirate masterserver list for some pay. Currently we have a lot of servers with too expensive advertisement like this, so quality of the servers a bit lower than "normal". So we have what we have...
I still find it so bizarre it's easy to hop on and enjoy a vanilla server for CS 1.6 than it for TF2 despite the latter seemingly have "20 times" the amount of players...
@@Dryfloorsign Yes there is, the Furrypound is completely unmodded and vanilla with a full map pool. Don't you think that's a problem though? How there's no vanilla community server? There should be one, it's completely unacceptable there's nowhere you can just play vanilla TF2 on, not even Valve's own servers are vanilla TF2, since you can't change teams or spectate.
@@Dryfloorsign Why is there no point in running a vanilla server? That's what I miss the most in TF2, it's so hard to just play regular TF2 and not someone's idea of what TF2 should be

I would advise everyone that they should make their config and userconfig read-only before connecting to any community servers in 1.6.
In CS (STEAM) it is not necessary, there is a command called *cl_filterstuffcmd* that prevents the server from changing client settings.
Yeah, what the previous reply said. If you are using the cracked version of 1.6 then good luck get it fixed.
Well , you should have told me 13y ago but thanks btw

Selling a monthly admin subscription and some advertisement used to be the main income for upkeep back when I played
Back in the old days no such p2w models were implemented in zombie community, it was truly fun.

I'm glad that my country (France) servers doesn't have all those silly plugins and custom models

Oh man I loved playing dust2x22
Exactly, someone finally made a video about the problem i have with most public servers in cs 1.6
Back then, i used to play on a lot of zombie plague servers, because i loved the concept of it in counter strike and they were much enjoyable but nowadays...? The Zombie plague mode sadly has been 'murdered' by such p2w conditions. I tried to join every ZM server i could and all of them contained very unfair features such as: insta-killing lasermines planted in a way they cannot be destroyed, tons of hp and armor aka tryder, jetpack and bazooka, weapons from cso, nitrogen galil and list goes on . . .
This whole p2w situation has gotten out of hand and it makes me sad to see it affecting not just zm servers. (sometimes i wish i could make my OWN server)
Once again, very sad to see my top favorite mode Zombie Plague fall off like that.

Thanks... Someone finally talked avout this
Stuff like this was literally the reason i would play CS: Condition Zero with bots to get my 1.6 fix as a kid. Goldsrc engine game servers with custom addons irritated me even as a kid.
Back in the 1.5 days we played a lot of Warcraft 3 servers. They were tons of fun ^_^
The GameBanana server is about as close to a 2003 non-WC3 and non-Superhero Mod community server as you can get. :)
It is always empty though. :(
That's the thing, its similar on source as well unfortunately
Its been pretty interesting watching the game evolve past its original intent and how it use to be played. Almost like the game's sandbox element became the main focus. It makes sense in many ways as that's always been a big part of the scene.
Gamebanana has their own servers? Crap, I didn't know about it.

(If someone tell me about normal servers like 5v5 or 10v10 with 8 rounds to win I 'll be thankful)
I remember getting trojaned from joining a server XD
As an admin for a certain zm server for like 5 years approx during my time.. I can confirm that was how zm servers were played.. vips made it super unfun for normal players and *vip no kill* was a thing where vip's would ignore each other making normal folks try to kill the almost near immortal vip humans.
2:05 bro i never ever came across this in all of my 1.3-1.6 gaming
I remember the same experience in 2012. Nothing's changed.
back in the days I was playing on a community server and someone on the server just changed my config out of revenge, so that w,a,s,d and other keys were totally mixed up.
wtf that is so scuffed
it's called a destroy amx plugin and it's usually done to hackers altho it's easy to fix or reinstall the game
@@k.ss.s4946 good to know, thanks for the info
Those VIP concepts I think came from CROSSFIRE fps, and then it became common in cs 1.6, there is even a counter strike: Extreme which took a lot of inspiration from CROSSFIRE
there are still tens of servers with max players almost all day, same with source!
Completely forgot about destroy ban lmao remember my classmate talking about it wow that is a throwback
sometimes it doesnt go away since some of malware edit registry.
The fact that i still have to wait for 69420 files of bitcoin miners and skin models to download at the speed of a decaying corpse is something that i always have to face... it's always infuriating
I feel this video
Every time i join a server and the shield is not blocked, i immediately give them several reasons to be. Man i love using that thing

Wow, i didn't know that lol, more complex than i thought.
This Guy is the type of the kids that cries all day long in community servers because he can't get a kill
Thats why you are only supposed to join servers you know and not random servers with bots / fake players and weird names
also console command "cl_minmodels" removes ALL skins and you only see default cs 1.6 models.
Do you still have any of the stolen accounts?

As someone who wasted their youth from 1.1 to 1.6 community servers, it's so sad to see this. Pay2win CS goes against God.
Enjoyed that brief clip of pool_day tho.
Weird I played 1.6 couple months back and the server I found was pretty vanilla just added gore and amazing custom maps hostage and bomb. I think it's because of how I setup my search settings 😂
I used to play on community servers in cs source, but it was 10 years ago. I am glad I had the chance to experience them.
I remember there was one server that if you connect to, your cs installation would only connect to this server afterwards
it didnt use to be like this im pretty sure back in the day was just skins and player models other vip things but no dmg boost, hp and such
The entire point of having an array of community servers is to find the ones you're most comfortable with.
OBoy
The times when you had to wait 5 minutes for the new map being downloaded, only to be kicked because your internet didn't allow you to download it fast enough but others did. And you can not even rejoin because of reserved slots 🤣🧂
let's gooo new vid i'm watching it rn
can confirm, self-hosted servers were a hellscape but simple ones using amx mod were always fun
Amx Mod X is 100% required to run servers in Goldsrc games like CS1.6 or Half-Life 1 anyways.
i remember when i had a pirated version of cs 1.6 joined a server and my computer got infected lol, i think i got rid of the malware before it could do any harm

That's a good idea but running a server requires money and time. I'd love to hop in for sure for some vanilla gameplay but that's up to DeZ.
Servers change your config? Make it "Read Only". Or make a backup of it. Easy as that 😎
Very interesting
current problem of CS 1.6 is AD: easiest way to improve u'r server's online is buy AD from pirate's monitorings. They put your server's ip in their pirate masterserver list for some pay. Currently we have a lot of servers with too expensive advertisement like this, so quality of the servers a bit lower than "normal". So we have what we have...
