Same - there were even variations of it. The default rats in the kitchen, a rats map in a bathroom setting, one in a bedroom and one more in a library kind of area with bookshelves, etc. I miss these maps the most in CSGO.

80-90% of the maps in this video are what made me into a gamer when i was a little and i played either on Lan in an internet cafe or at home in community servers, most of these maps either disabled snipers so its more balanced and fair or i played warcraft 3 mode and it made them way more fun. God the nostalgia hits hard watching this video. Good job. Back in the day these maps weren't balanced, we could play it with 10-32 people and still have fun. Now CS GO is so competitive focused and aimed at balance that all the fun has been sucked from it.... Or maybe the player base just changed from casual 1.6 plebs to sweaty tryhards in GO.
Your content is always so interesting and well documented! The 2 community maps I miss the most from 1.6 are de_sunny and de_blue, both French-made maps which were very popular on French servers back in the day. They were made by mapper Coucouoeuf from team aAa (yes, that team from the old Nightwish fragmovie thing). De_blue was part of the official ESL map roster for a while.
im REALLY late to this but the reason Westwood doesn't play well is that on Nathaniel Miller's original server(rock's hideout 4) it was weapon restricted to pistols only and was meant to be played like that. same goes for a lot of his maps unfortunately. once they left the community that knowledge kind of got forgotten.

I played cs 1.6 between 2008-2013 and i remember almost all of the maps, apart from italy2 and barcelona (which i`ve seen now for the first time). I remember playing kabul, alexandra, abaddon,dust4ever, westwood and inferno2se were 2 of my favorites, there were a lot more maps that are not mentioned here which i`m sure u do remember like de_energy, de_dust_castle, de_mjolby6 and many more. I`m from Romania, and the servers i was playing on were full of this maps, I remember dusty_aztec too, which was basically the same aztec with dust graphics...People back then didn`t even play the classic maps like nuke or train, very rare...dust2 and inferno were kind of popular, but apart from those, only spin offs, I remember de_nuke_2006 or something like that, a variant of nuke a little bit better. Daaamn, what a nostalgia....

God the memories, also i can def see differences between regions i'd say, back in the days de_sauna was very very popular here in estonia as well as de_rats_2 was way more popular then the og one if memory serves correctly, doe rats maps were basically exclusively played on paintball servers for some reason xD also fy_pool_day was massive

The interesting fact of removed counter-strike map is that those forgotten map reused various materials from Half-Life: The Gman , Black Mesa scientists model as the hostages, the "no smoking" or "no personnel" warning board, the Pop cola vending machine, the Lambda spray symbol,... Looks like Valve already successfully in cutting the tail for Counter-Strike, make it a separated one. I hate the fact that many people nowadays play Counter-Strike (or any other variants: CS:GO, CS Nexon Zombies), they think that this is an separated, independant series. They didn't know that CS in general is just a mod, one of the descendant FPSs of a legendary, iconic FPS, Half-Life.
de_rats Truly legendary map Though I'm late CS1.6 player (2010, and on mobile in 2016) Every time I've seen a server with a "rats" map in its name, I joined it I liked HLDM more, still play to this day
best description of westwood i’ve always hated this map and it used to be so popular back in the day you’re literally the only other person ive heard that dislikes it it’s good to hear i think people liked it so much cuz they love camping and hiding in corners and its perfect for that that and spawn awping which is also another thing rats and dweebs love to do 🤦♂️ terrible map

De_alexandra was ported on source, and i think it more ballanced, atleast tunnels is more worthy to push!

Actually the original de_rats is very very unbalanced. There are some remakes which fix the issues like de_rats_2001 oder de_rats_1337,

Those are available for CS1.6 too and they are as good as the Source versions.
Tuscan and Strike have been in rotation as a port in CS:S since forever too, but this is largely a 1.6 focus channel hahah
