Very true, it was uncool, went to see John Farnham in Melbourne with the MSO, and Guns and Roses were playing across the road at the Melbourne Entertainment Centre in 1988. Interesting train ride home with my newly acquitted John Farnham t-shirt 😊. Ended up going to Guns and roses in 1993 at Calder Park Raceway, Melbourne. Both were amazing.

@@brettst01 Me as well, Johnny Farnham was my Nans favourite because he did all those 60's and over clubs. I remember watching Farnham and Byrne and being amazed at how great his voice was (late 70's). I became a fan after Playing to Win was released by LRB, didn't like Down on the border but he won me over with Playing to win for sure. I was a Little River Band fan so had the Net and there were good tracks like We too and Your driving me out of my mind but it took Playing to win to really grab my attention.

Don’t apologise for your emotions. You felt him, not only heard. They wrote that because they miss their wives when touring. He was singing that from his heart and you felt it. My sister, not a John fan, picked one of his songs for our darling mother’s funeral when she passed aged 95 4 years ago. I still get emotional listening to it. John can make you laugh but also touch your soul. He never wanted to live and work in the USA. He wanted to be home here with his wife sons family and friends

Hi Bernadette - here I am catching up with all the reactions I haven't seen before (or for a while) . I've always loved the powerhouse voices - Meatloaf, Scott Walker to name two, but Farnsey is my GOAT, love every song, every performance, love John. Christmas is coming - it will be John and Carols By Candlelight. I so wish he had sung O Holy Night - I can hear, and see, him singing it in my head. One day AI may be able to replicate his voice exactly and produce an image of him singing it. Oct'24. UK. E ❤

Oh u from the UK where John was born. We so lucky he came from Dagenham Uk to here. Have u kept up with his life of late? He’s had cancer, he’ll never sing again. His sons say he does sing at home though. We heard him talk for the first time since his surgery. It’s on RUclips. He’s having an audible book published, called The Voice inside. His talking voice does sound a bit different now. And if u already know all this, I’ve been typing away here for nothing 😂
Oh my sister is just back from UK. She did the family history thing, visiting places where our ancestors came from. England Ireland Scotland and.. she didn’t get to Wales - so she’s going back to ‘The Mother Country’ lol for another wander.

@@bernadettelanders7306 Hi Bernadette, yes UK. I'm 5 years older than John so quite a long life story. Born in Northampton. Moved to, London.when I was 2, Wiltshire January '72 when I married. I did lots of family research 2011 to 2014. we're mostly London based so as the family home was in london I stayed there,, visited old addresses and areas, took the buses to the UK national archives in Kew - where all research sites were free. Stopped when mum went really downhill, (passed away 2017) John - been following him on YT for about two years, been fangirling ever since. I've overdosed on his life story - Uk's loss, Australia's gain! - and followed his health journey right up to the present. I've watched all documentaries right up to the recent clips about his book - it seems that it's probably radiotherapy that may have affected his voice? Very cruel type of cancer for a singer to have but it could have been so much worse,, and it's wonderful that he's doing so well. I've spent the morning watching some reaction clips I hadn't seen before - guess it's getting on for late evening with you? AnnieD has been guiding me to getting a dvd of the John and MSO concert, that will play in the UK. I don't have the Internet, just the mobile phone - would so love to see John on the bigger TV screen. My daughter works in the entertainment world - between us we hope to get it. Great chatting with you. Take care. UK. E♥️

There was very much an awareness of John in America, and he was very close friends with Olivia Newton John too and has done several songs with her. He is also well known in England. The issue I think is not all of our talent wants to leave Australia permanently and that is the cost I guess of getting known in the US. The US is a very internal star driven type place and to 'make it' there, you basically have to move there and be seen regularly in concerts there. Look at Keith Urban for instance. He made his start in the Australian country music scene winning awards at Tamworth (which is our equivalent of Nashville), but in order for his luck to work in the US, he moved there which was a big deal because he left his parents in Australia and hardly saw them, mainly because he became very famous there and was in demand. John loved Australia too much to leave it and was happy just doing Aussie concerts.

As I think a number of people have already intimated, the reason Farnsy isn't a household word across the music scene outside Oz is simply because he didn't want to be. He traded off the magic roundabout for a real life and has always been content to make his living singing to Australia. If the rest of the world wanted to listen in, then that was a bonus, but he wasn't about to hop a plane to sing for them in person. You can only live one life and he is living his in the way he wants. Hopefully his recovery from this latest challenge will allow him to continue to do so.

Nice review ..he is wonderful we love him. That song reminds you of love and lost love and everything in between . He stood in for little river band in America but it didn’t fit with him. Anyway we love him and I wish Americans knew and loved him as we do .

Mate, don't apologise, real men do cry big fella. I was an interstate truck driver and this was my go to song when all I wanted to do was be at home with my beautiful wife.

Just came across my suggestions, and most of us still feel that with this piece every damn time 😉 - if you haven't already heard it, the duet he does with Olivia Newton John (Main Event Tour) is out of this world.

Love you, Big Mike. You look to be about the same age as my son who is known as Big Red, so I feel an affinity with you. Your reactions are heartfelt and honest. John would always sing this for his wife when he was travelling. You said a while back that he was a sweet guy, he is. I have been following his career since 1969 and have seen him in concert many, many times. In all that time there has NEVER been a bad word reported about him. He is a genuinely nice guy and very funny, he has a wicked sense of humour. Keep the reactions coming, Mike. 🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍

Good on ya mate. Nothing but respect for being open, honest and vulnerable.
Check out “The day you went away” by Wendy Matthews. Might wanna do it in your own time cos it’s going to hit you hard.
Much love pal - hope you’re ok.

He is a very humble family man like you or I, doesn't particularly like the fame. He doesn't fit the mould of a pop/rock star at all. He has been married to the same woman since he was 24 years old and they are still very much in love. He just happens to sing incredibly well....

    Great work Mike .
I think said I a previous comment John Farnham was with Little River Band Aussie band that cracked American market with 12 top 30 billboard hits from 1976 - 1983 unfortunately John Farnham was an replacement singer he only and 2 out of those 12 hits with his name in the credits . The Other Guy number 11 and We Two number 23 Billboard charts .
After John Farnham left LRB in 1986 he was also working on he’s make or brake album Whispering Jack which You’re The Voice was the lead single . You’re The Voice charted well in the top 10 in most European countries , 1 in Germany and Sweden 6 in the UK of course number 1 in Australia for about 6 weeks .
American band Heart did a cover of You’re The Voice having a much more better chart success in the states with that song . USA has so many charts it’s easy for songs and even artists get wrongly pigeonholed.
Farnham was reluctant to promote himself in the states because it involved more time away from his then young family and had zero interest in moving away from Australia . Specially since he was made Australian of the year in height of his success here in Australia and Europe.
But Burn For You was written in Germany missing his wife .

So enjoyed watching your reaction to our amazing Farnsy. Can I suggest you react to Paul Kelly (eg, How To Make Gravy),and also The Black Sorrow ( you could start with Chained to the Wheel). Regards, Tracey V
