Haha it’s such a classic. “When David Wright was breaking 3B records, he was breaking Ed Kranepool’s records Michael! ED KRANEPOOL! Peter, have you ever heard of Ed Kranepool? I’m not mocking ya!”
I honestly have not heard this rant until now. I'm a met fan who was not in the area in 2018 and could care less about Kay. I just came across it. It's classic and it's true. Rest in Peace No.7 God Bless❤
Which was on of all days "Phil Rizzuto Day" at Yankee Stadium. GEORGE as I remember was furious about it, so much so they eventually did a second "Phil Rizzutto Day" (though the Yanks did invite Lindsey Nelson to call the 9th inning of Seaver's 300th). One of the biggest ironies of Seaver's career that he got his 300th in Yankee Stadium. Another irony was four years later he actually was calling play-by-play for the YANKEES.
I’m not even a New York sports fan and I watch this every few months whenever I need to laugh. This is epic. I think why it has stood the test of time as his greatest rant is because it felt natural. RIP Ed Kranepool. Don said his only regret about this rant is that it came across to some as though he was mocking Ed, when Ed was actually one of his all-time favorite Mets (as he says towards the tail end of this video.) Still remains one of the greatest radio rants of all-time -- and clearly comes from a genuine place of affection for Kranepool and the Mets franchise, rather than the usual contrived sports radio "hot takes."

The Mets have had two great championship years. Some teams have zero years. So what no great player played his whole career with them. I guess David Wright is the closest for them. Loyalty is great but it rarely happens... players to team/ teams to player. I get the lifelong Met fan frustration... but considering the pressure cooker that town is, their history is no surprise. From "69 to '86 is probably their best stretch, overall.
