I would like to speak to the caller from Manalapan but his his neighbors have likely beat him to death with baseball bats. For a guy he didn't know a thing about baseball metrics and how standings work, he was extremely judgemental.
Half of a baseball game the guy is literally on the other side of the diamond fielding. If he is an excellent fielder, wouldn't that at least be negating his terrible hitting statistics?

And his defense is way overblown. He was a good fielder, but this year the Yankees are afraid to play him in left field
Agree with everything you said. He doesn't bring anything to the Yankees. Replace him with Andujar and we get slightly better output. I hate seeing Gallo strike out with RISP with less than 2 outs. All you have to do is put the ball in play, sac fly, maybe even an RBI groundout if there's not a DP opportunity. Maybe a hit. These things, Andujar can do. He puts the bat on the ball. I'm tired of seeing Gallo strike out over and over again. Sometimes you just need to make contact to score a run and Gallo can't do that. So frustrating watching him.

Hey Don, legit answer to your question. How is Gallo hurting this team...easy, forcing our better RP's to have to pitch high innings as opposed to a Luetge or Abreu. Gallo is a rally/run killer. Tie game or Yanks up 1 in the 6th inning. Man on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out ...Gallo is going to K on 3 pitches(last one chest high fastball) and we end up not scoring any runs forcing Boone to go to King instead of having breathing room. Happens every night he plays.
I am noticing lately that there are way too many save situations the bullpen is being forced into after squandering opportunities from lack of sac flies or timely hits. They can't keep playing this "come back from behind" card. Yankees have taxed their bullpen for the better part of a decade and everyone's in denial about it until September and the play offs when once "lights-out" guys fold and Yankees fans are scratching their heads. You think Chapman just forgot how to pitch? The guy's been used for 50+ games pretty much every season. Chad Green was another one who was basically pitching in every game. And lest we forget, Dellin Betances probably epitomizes "worked down to the bone." Career cut short for sure.

@The Pope Of Sports and Entertainment The Truth NL has the Dodgers, Mets, and Braves. Maybe Padres and Brewers if they're hot. How's that much better than the AL? Yankees and Astros are just that good but I'd put the Red Sox, Rays, and Blue Jays up against anyone in the NL except the top 2

The orioles are over .500 in the toughest division in the AL and that should be the only argument necessary to show just how bad the AL is.
Yes we all know the Astros swept the Mets to be fair. Missing two all stars all 4 games and no Scherzer. If they played next week it probably wouldn’t be the same results. Any team can be any team on any given night. And the Astros had the Mets number. It happens. It’s just the regular season though. Caller absolutely correct. Don gets mad at callers for perfectly valid positions all the time. Has chapman not hurt us? Just because we are in first doesn’t mean we don’t have weak links. Gallo has hurt us. Every time he strikes out with runners in scoring positions, it hurts us.
Don is a Mets fan. Being 1 game over .500 or just making the WC is enough for him Unless you're undefeated u can get better no matter how great our record is. We have 1 glaring offensive hole but 61 wins is reason enough not to fix it? Astros are right behind us.
I pray to god that Gallo is in the playoff lineup and actively costs the yankees games just so Don can realize how fucking stupid he is on this subject
The Yankee management has been reducing Gallo's AB's, for good reason. He has been non-productive as a hitter. Gallo is a Plus defensive player, has a plus arm, and runs bases well, but he can not put bat on ball. He obviously has a decent eye for the strike zone because he walks, or at least used to walk quite frequently, but he is unable to make contact when he does swing. The Yankees have won despite him in the line-up, not because of him, and lets face it Donaldson, Higgie, and Hicks have not hit a ton either. The Yankee record was more a product of their excellent combined pitching rather than their offense. Judge was the major offensive contributor, and he is beginning to drop-off offensively. Trevino had been having a break-out season offensively, but he is beginning to come back to earth, and his BA is dropping with each game now. Stanton has had his share of big hits, but he is a very stray hitter. At least Hicks is hitting better recently. Donaldson K's a lot also, and Hicks is a dead red hitter, struggling mightily with breaking pitches. Andujar is a better contact hitter than Gallo, but he is not a great hitter by any stretch, his OBP is not great either, and his defense although improved, is not comparable to Gallo's. Gallo's BA and OBP have dropped versus his career stats since coming to the Yankees, perhaps he psychologically is better suited for a lower stress environment, where his flaws as a hitter are not scrutinized and put under the microscope. Probably the two worst landing spots for Gallo are NY and Boston. Consider this with Gallo across his career, even during his best seasons, when he managed to hit 38, 40, and 41 HR's, his RBI totals were relatively low, never exceeding 92 RBI's. So, assuming that not all of his HR's were solo shots, he must produce on average of 1.4 - 1.5 runs per home run, meaning that absent the occasional HR, he drives in very few runs for the remainder of his at bats. In 2021, he had 616 plate appearances, hit 38 HR's had 77 rbi's, walked an impressive 111 times, batted .160, meaning that in 616-111-38 AB's (467 AB's), which are his AB's excluding those AB's in which he hit a HR or walked, he managed to drive in only 23 runs in like 3/4 of season of AB's. The same holds true for his most productive seasons where hit hit 41 HR in 2017, with only 80 rbi, and 40 Hr in 2018 with 92 HR. He had between 20-30 RBI for the remainder of his at bats the entire season. So if Gallo does not hit a HR, you get very little production out of him. His HR rate has dropped significantly since joining the Yankees, from 7.7% of his plate appearances in 2017 to 4.16% currently, Therefore, in a high leverage situation with men on base in a close game, with a good opposing pitcher on the mound, the best one could possibly hope for with Gallo at the the plate is a walk, leaving it up to the next batter to succeed or fail. I said it at the time of the trade and repeat myself now. In Stanton and Judge the Yankees have to much redundancy as hitters with high strike-out rates, with judge being the better hitter than Stanton. But both have glaring holes in their swings that quality pitchers routinely exploit. Adding Gallo to a line-up already way to predisposed to striking out, not putting the ball in play, made very little sense and was a terrible move by Cashman.
Idiotic take.. I'm a big gardner fan but gallos arm alone sets him apart from gardner, ppl stay at 3rd or get thrown out with gallo.. with gardner, they scored.. you know I'm right.. gallo just threw someone out at home just the other day.. his bat SUCKS BALLS however his fielding and arm are great!

Yes, the yankees have the best record right now, but the Braves and Red Sox, for example, started the season with shameful records and have since risen to become serious playoff contenders.
NONSENSE! Don was winning the argument, until the Manalapn Numbskull interjected with the Michel Kay comparative...which then let loose of the angry Cracken. But let's be honest, if you refer to name calling and not answering questions. You shouldn't be calling in...on a Yankee platform with bogus opinions.
@@lorenzohiguera4155 Lol no he wasn't, screaming louder does not equal winning. "Does fielding matter?!" 5x as if he's not ignoring that hitting matters, and more than defense at that. Apparently the Yankees can’t improve because they have a good record. Any team with that mindset deserves a first round exit
He’s not saying they can’t improve. He’s saying Gallo doesn’t hurt them. which he’s right. he doesn’t. Gallo has not been a reason as to why we have won or lost games. He hardly comes up in big spots and when he does, it’s normally in games we are either winning, or end up winning. If you can point to any one game and tell me that Joey Gallo is the reason why we lost the game then fine. I’m not defending him btw, i think his days with the team should be long over, but he’s not hurting the team. He’s just not helping. He’s a non-factor.
And anyone who cannot differentiate Don's mindset from the Yankeess mindset doesn't deserve to post.
They will make moves around the trade deadline. I’m pretty sure Gallo will be gone by then.

How is he hurting the team? By wasting at bats that could be giving to other players allowing whoever it is to become comfortable as an everyday player and therefore ready for the playoffs
Yes the Yankees are in first place with Joey Gallo batting what he’s batting. That doesn’t mean he isn’t hurting them every time he steps to the plate. He is a rally killer and him being a great outfielder doesn’t trump his offensive woes. The Michael Kay thing aside, this caller was absolutely right about Joey Gallo.
A-Rod said on a national televised broadcast that Yankees shouldn't have traded for Joey Gallo. That they needed more hitters who are able to spread the ball around the diamond and not just go for the home run. A-Rod hit the nail on the head. Cashman is stuck with him .
not really. he is a free agent after this season and will be traded before then. so I don't see how cashman is "stuck with him"

And his defense is way overblown. He was a good fielder, but this year the Yankees are afraid to play him in left field
Totally agree with you!!!!!!!
How many more wins or less losses would they have without him? Give me a number
@@cambonious23 6…. Is that a good number. And you are looking at it all wrong. I’m not a Yankees fan, I understand what he was saying, but Gallo is without a doubt, 1000% hurting the team… I understand they’re winning… I understand they’re a good team… but they could be a BETTER team by exploring other options and not wasting that at-bat. We've seen the progress Andujar is continuing to make as a left fielder. DeGreco is a bozo.

Yes we all know the Astros swept the Mets to be fair. Missing two all stars all 4 games and no Scherzer. If they played next week it probably wouldn’t be the same results. Dude earned that when he kept talking about Michael Kay “owning” La Greca🤣🤣🤣
You should hit up Jomboy and see if they need any more Yankees guys on the crew. 10/10/10/10 comment.
Thanks for Gallo btw 👍🏼
