The great thing about this is Serena played great and she can still play even better than this. Today she played within herself. Kept her emotions in check. Served well and just got the job done. Now she has title number 8 at the Miami Open, third one in a row and she is back on top of the leaderboard for the WTA Finals.

derrick Johnson. Yep that would be 100% the truth. Today she played awesome in comparison to her overall tournament play but she certainly to raise the level of play even higher than she did today. I suspect ,when she is truly injury free, she will do because She will be looking to grab those Clay court titles. We both know our Girl loves to show how good she is on those courts and I do like it too.. Win/Win:-). I wish she would be a little more gentle with herself but know that IS WHY SHE IS A CHAMPION. SHE HAS HIGH STANDARDS:-).

Miami Heat for real.. Serena breaking all kinds of records in 2015, There was no question of her not winning today but what stood out for me is her game w/o that serve, Her serve not fully firing but she has developed a real all round game that she does not have to depend on her serve like before. I knew she would bagel when she pointed out a couple of days back that Carla 'beat my sister' So Carla knew the crush was coming and seemed resigned to it. Xcellent start to 2015 and now time to move to the clay and get 20. All hail the Queen!!!!!

LOL>. The Miami Heat comment was cute.. Yes, Serena has shown herself that her serve "as awesome as it is" doesn't;t have to be on fire for her to win. Today her serving was superb but the tournament overall she at been at a much lower level than usual. I know why.. Serena had knee issues leading up to the tournament. I think that she was not trusting her body in this tournament, like she normally would at 100% Level. Therefore the serve was the first thing affected by that factor. That Doubt make her think negatively therefore she was not freely serving like we are accustom to seeing. She righted the ship today. Absolutely beautiful match she played for the title. :-)

Yeah i thought the knee may well have been the key to her serve not fully firing but it was great to see her fall back on the other aspects of her game. Shame Venus ran out of energy cos she really can beat Carla. Superb week and Serena extending her reign atop the rankings.

uksoul2001 You know I am ecstatic that Serena has extended her lead over the field. It will be mid summer before she is probably facing someone who can take over her rankings. By then hopefully she would have The French and Wimbledon:-) Which would seal the rankings for the rest of the year:-). I feel that Venus, even with her lost is doing a super job considering her health. She and her sister are still the top 2 American women. That is incredible when you think how old they are:-) I do not know if Venus can raise back to Serena Level because of her health but it sure is fun watching her try. She has been on Fire this year:-)

Childress Giles Venus has been stringing together her best wins for years, She is managing her condition much better and she is in fact really a top 5 player with her condition as of now. I do not think she can reach Serena's level again but she can beat Maria and Simona and no reason why she could not get to that no 2 where she really belongs. She just needs to get to the level of stamina that allows her to close things out in 2. She gets the first set done now easier than before but as matches go on there is still a dip in her energy/game which opponents sieze upon. Anyway she fights and never gives up which is her message of intent and we all should get that. Do you know who that new guy is in Serena's camp? is he her new hitting partner?

uksoul2001 Yes, If you are speaking of the Black Male. He also hangs out with a lot of male Tennis Players. Not sure is he is from the US or not but she seems to be very happy with her new hitting partner. I know it was hard for her because she loves Sasha but this is business and a fresh eye helps her achieve more wins:-) Venus is an inspiration. I think a lot of people is inspired by her..

Totally disappointed with Carla Suarez-Navarro . She didn't even try ! I hate that . She could at least try. SERENA had No competition here. I'VE seen Carla Suarez-Navarro play a much more intelligent game. I'M surprised Carla was a finalist. I think it was SERENA "s presence that beat Carla.

To be fair to Carla, after this match and her loss at Wimbledon to Jelena Ostapenko the same year (and by the same score), she realised that she had a problem with her mental approach and started working with a sports psychologist.
