Don’t call it Hawaiian Pidgin, just say pidgin. Associating this broken English with Hawaiians is disrespectful when the Hawaiians back then spoke English properly despite it being a second language. This “accent” was created by immigrants in Hawaii who want to sound foreign, immigrants voted for statehood then wanted to sound exotic and non American 🤦🏽♂️
It's a pidgin, geographically associated with the Hawaiian Islands. That's what Hawaiian pidgin means.
Bruh you don’t even know what a “pidgin” is lol. A “pidgin” or mixed language is created when groups of people who all speak different languages create a common language to communicate with each other using the vocab and grammar of their own native languages. After the said pidgin gets passed down to another generation as a first language it becomes known as a “creole” which is what Hawaii Pidgin technically is and what other languages like Jamaican Patios, Tok Pisin, Haitian Creole, and Gullah are. Early planation pidgin used Hawaiian as its root language as it was the national and most spoken language at the time with Japanese, English, Cantonese, and Portuguese being its main supporting languages. When annexation happened and everybody was forced to learn English Hawaii Pidgin’s root language switched from Hawaiian to English which is why nowadays it is more of a dialect-continuum/accent but it is still a fully and officially recognized English Creole Language hence the name Hawaiian Creole English or Hawaiian Pidgin. The language/dialect is an integral part of the culture and history of Hawaii just like ‘Ōlelo Hawai’i is and is not “broken english”
