Howdy! MHGU (and 4U as well) vet here, and I have some advice on Mounting! When the monster is acting aggravated (the progress bar is red and fast), press and hold R to hold tightly (it will become orange and slower) until it goes back to green, which is when you can stab with impunity. Sometimes monsters will roar to try to knock you off - same deal, except if you happen to have the right tier of earplugs skill, the roar won't affect you there. Also, since you're coming from Gen 5, quick armor advice! Skills need 10 or more points in that skill to activate its effects, and any piece alone typically won't give the full amount to activate it (So you may have it where you have a lot of points around a lot of different skills, but are all inactive, if you aren't careful). (Higher tiers of any given skill increase on 5s, so 10-15-20 etc) Otherwise, enjoy!
Demon riot is really crazy for swaxe in this game, especially with the styles that let you use more than 1 skill (so you can literally put recharge back in to refill your bar while keeping riot active)
It seems you need help on the mounting, I’m going to assume you play on Nintendo switch, therefore, when a monster has a red indicator on the mount bar like 3:19, hold R, this turns the bar to orange and negates the damage you take

Make full sets until you are familiar with the old skill system. You need 10 points in a skill for it to be active.
