Hall & Oates are a great American pop rock duo who had their biggest success in the 70's-80's. They had a lot of great hits such as "Rich Girl", Kiss On My List", "Private Eyes", "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)", "Maneater", "Out Of Touch", "You Make My Dreams", "Family Man", "Say It Isn't So", "Method Of Modern Love" etc.
I like their version of family man but prefer the mike oldfield ft maggie riley original
Talent doesn't discriminate and great music never gets old, regardless of the lyrics!
From their first hit in 1974 through their heyday in the '80s, Daryl Hall and John Oates' smooth, catchy take on Philly soul brought them enormous commercial success -- including six number one singles and six platinum albums. Hall & Oates' music was remarkably well constructed and produced; at their best, their songs were filled with strong hooks and melodies incorporating elements of new wave and hard rock. In 1984 Hall and Oates surpassed the Everly Brothers as the most successful duo in rock history. Daryl is a wonderful singer and you can watch him perform with a variety of artists on DARYL'S HOUSE on youtube. I included Todd Rundgren here because he's one of my faves. ruclips.net/video/prOYxFPoKSM/видео.html
Definitely one of my favorite groups/duos ever. My favorites from them are “Maneater” and “Rich Girl”.
They inherited the blue-eyed-soul mantle from the Righteous Brothers, and racked up the hits.
The old Abandoned Lunchonette was about a mile from my childhood home. Daryl Hall live not to far. He's the most famous graduate of my high school. Everyone should listen to his solo album Sacred Songs. And the album War Babies is the best thing Hall and Oates ever did in my opinion. Great reaction ladies!
A funny thing is that both Hall and Oates said that the owner of the Abandoned Lunchonette hated that they put his dinner on their album. It's a hilarious story.
Hall and Oats were nice radio pop back then. Ah memories. However, I have since watched "Live From Darrell's House," where he has other artists like Smoky Robinson, Todd Rundgren, and others. That cat is a heck of a musician.
Oh their doing the live version. I like it but I think you need to listen to the studio version to get the full effect.
"She's Gone" is an excellent song and was Hall & Oates first top 10 hit. I'm glad you're continuing to explore their great catalog of songs. I rank Hall & Oates in my top 5 favorite duos. Other songs I highly recommend you try are "Rich Girl", "Private Eyes", "Kiss On My List", "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)", "Say It Isn't So", "Maneater", and "One On One".
These guys harmonies are spot on. Fantastic duo !
I would recommend diving into the 80's Hall and Oates next and doing Maneater. Probably their best 80's song and maybe the best sax solo of all time. Keep up the good work ladies:)
Ok. I love you two, cute. But when are you going to do Bob Dylan? The Greatest Songwriter of All Time? I know your Mama knows Bob. How about The Greatest Rock and Roll song of All Time "Like A Rolling Stone", come on, Mama knows this one! Please. 👍🥴🥴🥴🤔
Not sure if you tried this one, BUT it is definitely a generation gap song....."You've Lost That Loving Feeling" H&O version
I suggest these Hall & Oates songs: Private Eyes, Rich Girl, Maneater, You Make My Dreams & Kiss On My List
Hi beautiful girls, awesome cool jam, been fan since Jr high School 👍😎🤘
👍LOTSAAAAAA EAR CANDYYYY ON THIS SONG GIRLS!!! 😊IT LOOKED LIKE YOU WERE GONNA DO THE STUDIO VERSION BY THE 93 ALBUM ( GREATEST HITS )
Awesome song awesome reaction thank you beautiful ladies ❤️
This live performance is good but please check out the studio version too. Same goes for I Can't Go For That.
I saw Hall & Oates in Vancouver, at the 2011 Pacific National Exhibition, and when they did this song, I lost it, it had been 1 year since my beloved Catherine passed away, we were together for 15 tears, I mean years, and, I couldn't listen to any music for a year, then when, they sang the words, She's Gone, it finally hit me, that she was indeed gone, and I cried. I did my best to hold it in, but, I could feel my face contorting. It still moves me today. 😭
The studio version of this song is absolutely phenomenal!
Yeah, next time play the studio version.
It's much better. I wish they responded to that instead
Absolutely correct!! The studio version is so much better. If you get a chance listen to it. It sounds like a completely different song. Oh, and by the way, excellent reactions (you're both beautiful as well). You have a new subscriber.
This is a fantastic live version though.
Yes I prefer the sax solo to the synth. This is a pretty great live version though.
TOGWT best music show from the seventies, loads of great bands on it.
*****Check out Their "You Make My Dreams Come Time."
My favourite Hall & Oates song is 'I can't go for that'. Great reaction, ladies!
Sweet. I've never seen this performance. Thank you ladies.
I saw them live in 1982, their Private Eyes tour. It was fantastic. They sounded better than this too. This was kind of pitchy, but you could still hear how good they were. "Rich Girl" is good one.
If I could make a suggestion, do a little research into what's known as "The Philly Sound," or Philadelphia Soul. Hall & Oates were hugely influenced by it, and definitely tapped into it. Groups like the Spinners (originally from Detroit, migrated to Philly) were SO creative and made such an impact that resonates to this day. Fun one. I agree with your mom--it makes my heart glad that you love these songs so much. They're just so damn good. They make for such a wonderful soundtrack to my life. Thanks for another great one.
great reaction, also agree it's awesome you enjoy the clothes the music and appreciate the subtle of the overall groups and their contributions to the song, many people today miss the sheer layers to a song from this era, In my opinion if not their best song, before they became 80s commercial which is good, but their early stuff was amazing as was most bands that started in the 70s, the commercial peak may have tapped in the 80s, but the raw music of their 70s catalogue is what is true genius. jeep on it sisters, you are grooving, I'm an 80s child, but your mom had the best era , it irony we don't appreciate it as much at the time, good music always rises to the top, sometimes we take time to catch up, like most things in life. but the music will always live on. great great song and live.
Studio version is much better.....imo.
Live at The Old Grey Whistle Test (BBC)
I'm echoing an "oh wowie." The duo was all over mainstream pop radio, but were really very soulful. They should have had more soul cred. Love it. Thanks guys.
Yes! This one has a good bit of funk, too.
Hello girl's good band,,,...........
I love Hall & Oates so, so much! This is one group that I have always wanted to see in concert. I was a huge fan in the 80's and still am. When they first came out I remember my parents, aunts & uncles listening to their music, but I was like 7, 8 years old. Then when I turned about 13 and they were still making even better music in the 80's (imho) it made me a devoted fan. Great song and reaction!!
Your mom must be about my age. We have the same taste in music. I am 53 btw.
These guys have a tons of hits and just great songs, so you'll have many songs to go through.
Check out the studio version. This Live version is changed too much as most Live versions are. The flow of melody and lyrics is not as good as the studio track.
They did a great live version, and I NEVER recommend live for a first listen, but I agree that the studio version is a masterpiece, should be listened to.
If you listen to this song, more recently, they perfected it. Just like all the other songs they made.
This is quite different from the studio single, something that many artists did in live versions on the bbc old grey whistle test show, it really does highlight their talent tho.
That was an incredibly insightful reaction. Great job ladies!!! What a performance by Hall and Oates. Incredible.
Another great song by them! One of the greatest duos ever but I put the #1 spot to the Righteous Brothers. The 80s were another favorite decade for music along with the 60s. One thing for sure time doesn't taint great music.
This is my favorite song from them ❤️✌️
10:21 🙋🏻♂️🍀👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽😃
Portland Oregon USA 🇺🇸
I saw Hall and Oates in the 80s. Great concert at the Spectrum in Philly. My seat was behind the stage but John Oates made sure he turned around often during the concert.
They met at Temple University. Great blue eyed soul singers!
I believe they are the most successful duo in pop music history.
John Oates wrote this song when a date stood him up. It still sounds so classy after all these years ❤ These guys wrote and performed back in the days when there was no auto tune. What you hear is 100% real. Their 1976 track Rich Girl is also an amazing listen 👏
Baby Gap, If you want to hear more of John Oates' sultry deep voice, you absolutely NEED to listen to Hall & Oates' cover of the Righteous Brothers song "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling"! He takes more lead vocals (trading back & forth with Daryl) on that one. So smooth! ruclips.net/video/SXX5OtJJWDo/видео.html&ab_channel=hallandoatesVEVO
You ladies should check out Live From Daryl's House. Daryl Hall jams with a variety of artists, doing Hall and Oats songs and guest artists songs. " She's Gone " is done with Rob Thomas from Matchbox Twenty, and it's pretty damn good.
These guys were/are super talented, and the look on your face as the song unfolded was priceless! This was mid-1970s. Check out the studio version for a smoother and even catchier sound - quite the groove!
As you enjoy "blue-eyed soul ", check out Bobby Caldwell's What You Won't Do for Love or Simply Red's Holding Back the Years.
You ladies should have a look and listen to "She's Gone" on Live from Daryl's House, with the lead being sung by Rob Thomas from Matchbox Twenty.
*******The Pride of Philly, genuine blue eyed sou. With 27 out of 33 Singles Charting on Billboard, They are the BEST Selling DUO of All Time.
On Dec. 1st I made 2 compilations of their music because this song was not on their Greatest Hits compilation I already owned. I rounded up the missing singles and best album tracks, a good listen. They're sort of white r&b.
If you want more sad breakup songs try Air Supply, every song is a breakup song.
Live From Daryl's House has a great rendition of this..No Oates but its Rob Thomas and Daryl..LFDH is a great program.youtube has many shows they have many well known guests
This is from a rare trip by H & O to UK. Recorded on a show called, unusually, Old Grey Whistle Test. It featured all sorts of artists, usually new UK bands or US bands trying to break the UK market. The studio was just basic, sometimes with no audience. The show was broadcast late about 10:30 or 11:00 & presented for much of the run by a guy called Bob Harris who had a quiet sort of voice hence his nickname "Whispering Bob".
Benny Hill did a brilliant impersonation of him in a sketch.
H&O, Me And Mrs. Jones, Whenever You Go Away, What's Going On? live, great sound.
You really should listen to the studio version before any live performance. It's okay and its expected that in live performances, there will be artistic variances, but you really should have appreciation of a live performance based upon the original "perfected" vision that was captured in the studio, and which was officially put out for airplay. You might do a studio version first, and for songs you liked, you could follow up with a live performance and give it a comparison.
High school memories, Hall and Oates was the go to group to cleanse out the Brain Residue Alice Cooper left in the last song. *- Don't be Diss'N my Boy Alice, he kept me sane when on Disco Overload
Great reaction!! Could you check out (Frankie Valli - My Eyes Adored You ) I think you'll love it!
I’ve been there my sisters 😅 like WTF happened…and it hurt so much. But the rhythm of the music helps break the heart ache, so dope! ❤️
Just a little confession about me that I thought you might like ... When I first heard of the group, Hall & Oates, it was at a time when there were a lot of groups coming out, and many of them had crazy names ... names designed to be unique and grab attention like, Spooky Tooth, Little Feat, Asleep At The Wheel, Gentle Giant, etc., so when I heard their name over the radio, I assumed their name was Haulin' Oates. To this day, I still think about it every now and then and have a good laugh ... at my own expense, of course. I know of no one that has ever made the same mistake, or admitted it, but that makes it even funnier to me.
I would like to suggest you listen/react to the studio versions of songs first, until you know each band's songs, and then if you like them, react to some of their live songs. I know, it's nice to see them, but often, for some bands, their live versions are not as good as the studio ones. This is one of those bands, and this song in particular, is NOT anywhere as good live as it is in the studio version.
It's easy to get in the habit of only listening to love versions, but I reiterate, many bands don't sound as good live, and you may miss out on a lot of good ones because you find you don't care for them live. That would be a shame. There ARE some bands that are as good or better live, like Eagles (as good, sometimes better), Journey (sounds nearly identical to studio) or The Allman Brothers (expanded solos and really great live), but more often than not, you'll like them more in the studio. I'd volunteer to hold your hands through it all, cos that's the kind of guy I am 🤣😉😊👍.
I saw these guys live back in the early 70s. Amazing performance.
Another great tune taking me back to my teenage years in the 80’s. Starting all over again is my all time favourite tune by H&O
Any Hall and Oates works - try One on One or When the Morning Comes (also from Abandoned Luncheonette)
If you think this is good try their 1974 album War Babies. It's nothing short of astonishing.
It's ROCK AND SOUL folks they hate blue eyed soul
Brilliant duo, what a fabulous song this is ......
Most chart successful rock duo passing the Everly Brothers.
Sarah smile and She's gone were their two hits and they've had a lot of hits since.
U wanted more Hall and Oates try One on One!!!
about the worst version of this song I've ever heard; scrap this one and get a studio recording; you'll think it's a different song
Great song. Blues rock soul. Their second best after Sarah Smile. Studio version is much better for a first timer. You get more detail. Lyrics are a little different too.
Welcome to this rabbit hole. You won't find a bad song on your journey.
Omg their gonna love this...I wonder if the young one has heard this...
This was the tune that led them to stardom. It is a Philadelphia sound! The original recording sounds so much better!
I believe the story behind this song was Daryl Hall was going through a divorce and John Oates had met a girl she stood him up they were both back up there at the apartment in about an hour and a half they wrote this song. The studio version sounds a whole lot better although this one sounds great too
Abandoned luncheonette is one of the greatest albums from the 1970’s.... I prefer 1970’s hall and Oates .....
I prefer the 80's although 70's is great as well.
I always thought it was constellation. As in the Stars above. High on the stars above high on the constellation
Their music is layered. an instrument will start the soneg off and then there will bemultiple other layers before the stat singing
You gotta go to Daryll's house and watch his videos. Way cooler live
This was done live at the BBC, show was always live,"olld grey whistle test" they had all the great singers and bands on there.
My favorite song too.
The live version is much better. Nice choice. Nice Necklace Mom!
Check out there albums along the red ledge, and bigger than both of us!
Junior Walker and the All Stars
What Does it Take
Blue eyed soul right here, the Philly sound back in the day
Studio version is better. Too many additions.
I believe the guy on the keys was Daryl Hall.
Hall & Oates’ greatest song, and they had many good ones.
The Delfonics
La La La means I Love You
Joan Osborne
What Becomes of a Broken Heart
"I wanna go shop there". Sorry, they're gone too. :/
You really miss the sax instead of that sync on the solo
